24p Video Speeds Up?

Greetings:
I've imported video shot in 24p into iMovie HD 6 and noticed that, during playback, it sped up just a tad. The preference is set to 25p, however does it affect my 24p clip that much?
Thanks!

iMovie isn't designed to handle 24p. The closest you get is PAL, which is 25 fps. That means your footage is sped up about 4%. That shouldn't be a problem, right?
If it is, you should but FCE or FCP, but the learning curve is steep. Also, check the specs as FCE didn't do 24p a couple of year ago when I last checked.
FYI: "Hollywood" movies are filmed at 24 fps. When these are broadcast in Europe, they are sped up to 25 fps (about 4%) to fit the frame rate of the PAL broadcasting. Likewise when produceing a PAL DVD: speed up to 25fps. It isn't really noticed at all.

  • How to see Canon HDV native 24p video on a CRT external monitor?

Mac Pro 2009, FCP 7, brand new install- I'm trying to view Canon HDV native 1080/24p video in my timeline via s-video to a JVC TM-H150C external 15" CRT monitor (or via component if I buy the additional JVC card). The footage is from a Canon HV40 camcorder.
I've spoken with BlackMagic Design and found that the Intensity Pro card CANNOT handle display of Canon HDV native 1080/24p on an external CRT monitor. Apparently the 24 frames per second rate is the problem. Some people on various forums have said that it can do 24p, but BMD says it cannot, and I can't confirm anything without plunking down $200 to test it myself. With all the various flavors of HDV out there, I can't go by what another user has experienced on his system.
I don't need a card for capture, only display, so I don't want to spend a fortune just to be able to use my little CRT production monitor to view the 24p video. What can I do? Is there a setting in FCP or a plugin that can do this?

The no cost way is to nest the 16:9 sequence in a 4:3 sequence. The 16:9 sequence should be letterboxed and will play back at the correct aspect ratio on the monitor.
Otherwise, you'll need a 3rd party device (AJA, Blackmagic, Matrox) to do the letterboxing for you.

  • Is it possible to speed up an iBook's video speed?

    Hiya -
I've got an iBook G4, 1.2 GHz, OS 10.4.11, 125 gb HD, 1.2 GB RAM, usual 32 MB vram.
Thing is, the video speed isn't quite what it used to be. YouTube vids used to run just fine, about 2-3 years ago. Now, of course, it's choppy at best. Ditto Hulu and pretty much any other online video.
I seem to recall something from years and years ago, back in the Classic days, of how you could let the graphics use regular RAM to supplement the vram, something like that - the end result being that it would play smoother than before, kind of a speed bump for the video.
Or maybe I'm thinking of something else.
Anyway, I was wondering if there's a way to do something like that in OSX, artificially increase the capability and speed of the video playback.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks.

As far as I know, there's nothing you can do.
You may want to try other browsers and see if performance improves.
Hulu is very resource intensive, and even my MacBook and my mother's 6-month old Toshiba notebook sometimes struggle with videos there.
The issue is that these websites use Adobe's Flash plug-in to deliver the audio & video, and Flash is becoming more and more resource hungry as the years pass. Your iBook just isn't up for the task.

  • When I use Photoshop CS 6 to edit video, I don't know how to change video speed after I converted the clip to smart object?

When I use Photoshop CS 6 to edit video, I don't know how to change video speed after I converted the clip to smart object? The clip color turns purple and it only allows me to add motion but not change the clip duration and speed anymore.

Thanks for the reply and as a work around method I used the Photoshop to do all the adjustments then export the video to iMovie to finish the final cut. I also have a problem to paint or clone on a blank video layer created in Photoshop. It tells me the time is beyond the target frame time, I don't understand the message. Can you explain to me what did I do wrong? Thanks a lot!

  • Modify Video Speed (slow motion)

New to motion. I know in FCP I'm able to modify video speed. Wondering if it's possible to do the same in motion? I'm looking to slow down my video footage in one of motion's existing templates.

  • AVCHD import problem, Video speed is FAST!

When previewing the clips in the bin PRIOR to importing, everything looks great, and both Audio & Video run at realtime speed, but AFTER importing, the VIDEO is running at what appears to be 200%, audio is perfect... Help, please!

I'm having the same problem. I've imported video without a problem before, but now the video speed after import is probably 4x faster.
I'm using a Sony DCR-PC101 with a firewire connection. The camera uses Mini-DV.
As Jesse Boy says the preview runs at normal speed. When viewing the LCD monitor on the camera while importing its running at normal speed.
Is there a setting I can adjust in iMovie to fix this?

  • Lost sync video speeds up when importing files AVI and MP4

I record my boss from a closed circut CATV system on a DVD.  Then I transfer the VOB file to my hard drive and convert it with MPEG Stream Clip 1.2b2 using the following settings
Codec Apple DV/DCVC Pro - NTSC
    audio - uncompressed
    resolution 720x480 DV/NTSC
It usually works like a charm, in the past I have been able to drop it into Premiere 7.0 or CS4 and edit away.  But today I am having this problem no matter what I do.  The video runs at 2x to 3x normal speed and the audio runs at the regular pace.  Needless to say it is out of sync.  I've tried rendering as an MP4 and Quicktime with the same issue.
I've rebooted my comuter.  I don't understand why it worked before and not now.
    Any advice would be apprecieated.
A real timesaver would be an update to CS4 that allow you to drop a VOB file into the timeline.  It seemed like such a basic file format, and Adobe's pitch for CS4 said it handles almost all video formats, so I didn't even bother to check before I bought.  Got what I deserve.
Oh, I am editing on a Toshiba tecra laptop.  Plenty of RAM and a good processor.
    Thanks
    John

VOB files have their own issues.
To start, they usually are just one part of a video program that contains several .vob files.  Any video program on DVD longer than about 30 minutes will usually be made up of multiple .vob files.
Then there is the issue of the file structure itself.  VOB files don't just contain the video and audio content - they also contain lots of non-media data that provide instructions to the DVD player on how to deal with the media content contained in the file.  The best solution is to strip away that extra data before working with the file(s) by ripping the DVD.  Otherwise, you are relying on your editing software to properly ignore the extra data.  Even dedicated MPEG2/DVD/DVDR editing programs like VideoReDo and Womble have trouble with some .vob files from time to time.
So the bottom line with .vob files is that they sometimes work, sometimes they only work after a file extension change, and sometimes they won't work at all.  Your best bet when re-purposing DVD video is to rip the DVD into usable, editable files.

  • Need to Output 24P Video

I am outputting a video that I cut in 24P and I want to open it up on to a new time line. I want the most uncompressed way of exporting and space is not an issue. Should I go with 8bit or 10bit uncompressed?
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!!!
    Thanks

If you export an uncompressed file, you need to create a sequence that matches those settings. Choose an EASY SETUP that matches, then create a new sequence.
But, again, we are ALL asking you, why are you doing this? I fail to see how exporting an uncompressed QT will help with soundtrack. Even exporting a self contained QT Movie (what you SHOULD be doing if you want a QT with no further compression)....why? All that will do is make your audio into a Stereo pair, and negate any sound mixing you can do in Soundtrack.
Why do you assume that it is the fact that your footage is scattered on several drives is what is causing Soundtrack to crash? That doesn't sound right. Scattered media doesn't cause applications to crash...other things do, like corrupt preferences or bad permissions. If I were you, I'd pose this question in the SOUNDTRACK forum and ask for assistance.

  • Faster video speed on imported clips

I've been trying to import video from my Sony Digital8 camera to my MacMini. I've had a couple of problems...
With "start a new clip with each scene break" checked, it breaks up my video into clips that are only .16 of a second long. When I don't have it checked, it imports longer sections like it should, but when I run them on my computer, the playback speed is too fast.
Anyone know what is causing this or how to fix it?

  • Music Video speed help

So i'm shooting a music video in about 12 hours and I really want to use the slow mo effect.  I want to shoot the slow mo parts in 60fps and edit everything else in 24fps.  So my question is, how much do I speed up the backing track for the artist to play/sing to in order for it to sync up correctly?  I read 240% somewhere but that's insanely fast and not possible to even comprehend!  Please help!

60/24 =2.5, so you'd need to speed up the on set playback to 250% in order to have the slow motion lip sync at 24 fps.  (This is theoretical. I've never actually done it, so you should test it first.)

  • Change Video Speed in iMovie 08'?

I probably haven't used iMovie since iLife 04' and am now editing a video using iMovie '08. I'd like to to have a portion of the video I'm editing play at a faster speed... kind of like a time lapse video for a small portion of the project. Is there any way I can do that in iMovie 08'? I was able to speed up/slow down and play in reverse parts of a video in the previous version of iMovie. Are those editing methods not available any more?

Is there any way I can do that in iMovie 08'?
    No.
I was able to speed up/slow down and play in reverse parts of a video in the previous version of iMovie.
You still can. iMovie HD download for iLife '08 users.
Are those editing methods not available any more?
Not from within iMovie '08 but you can change speed externally. Here is my favorite method using the free JES Deinterlacer.

  • IMovie '09 v 8.06 - Changing video speeds on clips messes up the video clip

I have ALWAYS had this problem with iMovie.. Randomly it will work, but usually, when I'm trying to put some slow-motion segments in my movie, they jump seemingly randomly between parts of the source clip. In otherwords, if I have a 60 second clip, and I split it at 20 seconds, and 25 seconds, and then slow the 5 second middle part down to 50% using the slider (so that 5 seconds of video is now 10 seconds long), that 10 seconds jumps around between seemingly random sections from my video. If I change the speed back to 100%, the clip goes back to normal. This is REALLY frustrating... Has anyone seen that??

  • Video Speed in FCP

I'm running FCP on this iMac, w/ 2 GB ram.
but it runs fine, and I'm not sure what causes this.
my question is, how to fix video staggers/jumps, when editing the speed of one clip.
For example, i take a short clip from a video and drag it into the timeline, i use the 'Razor Blade' tool to cut the clip at a certain point. I do this because i want the first portion of the clip to play at say, '50%' in general, anything faster or slower than 100%, now, the second portion of the clip I leave to play at 100%.
Finally when the full clip is combined on the timeline, the first portion plays in 'Slo-Mo' fine, but for a split second, the transaction between the first portion and the second portion staggers/jumps back to a 'Freeze Frame' (sort of) of a view from the beginning of the first portion of the clip. Then the clip returns to normal and plays normally.

Take a watch at this, and it should explain enough if not all for you: http://wpc.107C.edgecastcdn.net/00107C/ripple/fcpspeed_toolsfinal.mov

  • Capturing 24p Video from Panasonic DVX-100

I shot some material on the 24p mode of the Panasonic DVX-100a. I want to capture it as progressive Video because it's for The web. In The Final Cut capture settings, there is a setting for advanced pulldown removal. But not for The regular 24p mode. I dont even care about The frame rate, but i need This footage to be proggressive so I won't get the interlaced defect!

In the USE area of the Easy Setup, choose Cinema Tools 23.98 from DV-NTSC. That will remove standard 3:2 pulldown (which is 24p). You would only use the Advanced Pulldown removal if you had shot 24pA (the A standing for Advanced). Be aware that you will still have 6 interlaced frames in your video.
You no longer have to actually launch Cinema Tools to do this. You can do it from within FCP for about 2 or 3 versions now.

  • Decreasing video speed in premiere pro resulting shaking video , checked Allways deinterlace .

Hi ,I am editing an avi wedding video ,I had to decrease the speed in a sequence ,and the result was a shaking clip after rendering and exporting, any help or solution will be much appreciated, forgive me for my poor English
    Thank you in advance.

Is the source footage actually interlaced?  If not, then don't use Always Deinterlace.  To smooth out the speed changes, try selecting Frame Blend for the clips.  You could also try restricting the speed to a multiple of the original frame rate, like one-half, one-third, etc. That seems to help make smoother slow motion.  If the footage is interlaced and my other suggestions don't work, try deinterlacing the source clips at their native speed and exporting an intermediate lossless file out of Pr.  Reimport it to your project and then try the speed change suggestions on the new clip.
