2800 dropping Comcast connectivity after 1 day

This problem has started after comcast made their upgrades on the East coast about two weeks ago and had several problems.... The router is a 2800 series running advipservices 12.4.25e and after what appears to be about 1 day of communication the router or comcast modem stops sending out internet traffic.. If i do a SHUT no SHUT on the interface of my router connected to the comcast modem, the problem is fixed for about another day. So what do I need to look for? We have replaced the modem twice and we now have an SMC business class modem like we should but having the same problem.
Also some important information is that the comcast modem is still using DHCP right now, so I made the changes on the router to make sure it knew it was DHCP..... No fix.
BTW - if i do a show ip nat trans - there are translations on the router.
Here is the config of the interface and of my static route
interface GigabitEthernet0/0
description Connected to the Internet
ip dhcp client client-id Loopback0
ip address dhcp
ip access-group 102 in
no ip redirects
no ip unreachables
no ip proxy-arp
ip nat outside
ip inspect SDM_LOW out
ip virtual-reassembly
ip route-cache flow
duplex auto
speed auto
no cdp enable
ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 GigabitEthernet0/0 dhcp
Anyone have suggestions on what to look for?

Comcast could be forcing clients to change their IP addresses.
Please note your current IP address with the command 'show ip interface brief' and when the problem occurs again, proceed with the 'shut | no shut' routine then verify the new IP address.
If the IP address changes, Comcast is probably terminating the lease without informing the DHCP clients.
You can have the command 'ip dhcp client lease' under the interface to have your router request a new lease

Per the attached config, everything looks fine.

  • Apple Airport Express - drops wifi connections after a day or two.....??

    Dear Users,
Can anyone assist me, I have 2 Apple Airport Express recievers and an Apple TV2 connected to my iMac. The Apple TV is connected via ethernet and a gigabit switch via the BT Infinity Router. The 2 Apple Airport Expresses are connected via wiresles to the BT router.
Everything works fine, music streams perfectly most of the time.
But after 24-48 hours of being dorment the Router seems to drop the wireless connections to the Apple Airport Expresses, if you reboot the router they connect again immediatley. I have adjusted the router settings to 802.1n, instead of 802.1n/b/g, which seemed to work better for a few days and the connection never dropped and now the problem has started again.
Frankly its not the end of the world, but it means I have to reboot the router everytime we want to use all zones for music, which when you have a wife that moans that 'my setup is too complicted and has to be rebooted everytime', it would be great to resolve this for once and all.....
Have a I missed something simple or do I need a new router/Airport Extreme?
    Thanks in advance
    Matt

The whole idea here is to test by first powering off your "extending" AirPort.
Then, take a measurement with your laptop at the location of the "extending" AirPort.....to see what quality of signal that it is receiving.  Remember, it can only "extend" the quality of signal that it receives.
You would want to see a minimum SNR of 25 at the location of your "extending" AirPort Express.  Higher would be better. If it is less than 25, you need to move the "extending" Express closer to the "main" router so that it will receive a better quality signal to extend.
Once you have a location with a decent SNR of 25 or higher, then power the "extending" Express back up at that location.

  • My i Phone drops WiFi connection after just a few minutes and wont reconnect unless I reset the network settings and reboot the  phone?

My i Phone 4s has suddenly started to drop wifi connection after nealy months of near perfect connections?
To restore a wifi connection I have to reset the network settings and restart the phone, this only fixes the issues for around 2-3 mins?
Other quick fixes like switching wifi on and off/ switching to airoplane mode for a few secconds have no impact.
This is really annoying as I am using my data allowence very quickly, and as the phone is continually searching for a wifi connection the battery time has reduced dramatically.
I just wondered if any one else has the same issue, and any suggestions as to how I can fix this.
    Thanks in Advance

    Reboot.
    Restore (from backup)
    Restore (as new)
Test after each step. If one of them doesn't fix the problem, make an appointment at the genius bar.

  • WRT350N, Loses Internet Connection after several days of working.

My WRT350N worked fine for 4 days after instalation then stoped communicating with my Linksys modem.  I returned my first WRT350N to Best Buy after a day of troubleshooting, and several calls to Comcast, my cable  provider.. Assuming I had a bad router I got a replacement, and after 3 days the replacement router did the same thing, losing its internet connection.  I found it pecular that I could connect to the router. it looked like it was connected to the modem, but would not make an internet connection, even after restarting my Linksys BEFCMU10 Cable Modem and router several times.   I could only make a connection if I pluged my computer directly into the modem.  I also check for firmware updates and at the time there were no firmware updates.I returned my second WRT350N to Best Buy requesting a refund and re-installed my original WRT54GS.  Does the latest version of firmware resolve this specific problem?  Judging by the inquires on this forum, it would appear that alot of users are experenceing this same problem.  I really like the Idea of the Storage Link, but I think I will wait till they work out there problems with the WRT350N, before I buy another Linksys product.

I suffer from the exact same problem you describe ever since I bought my WRT350N 3 weeks ago. I do not have a solution for you unfortunately. Maybe if everyone with a WRT350N with this problem chimes in here, Linksys will take note.

  • IMac drops Wifi connection after 10.7.4 update

    Hello there,
I am experiencing intermittent wifi connection problems after installing the 10.7.4 update on my 2011 iMac 27".
The symption is that the iMac drop its Wifi connection after a period of time and when that happens the iMac cannot detect any wifi networks in my area (disabling & re-enabling Wifi on the iMac doesn't help). I have to resort to restarting the iMac to revive the wifi interface. Note that my other devices (including my iPhone and my MacBook Air) can connect to my Airport Extreme without any problems.
Is there any "quick-fix" solutions out there that can fix this problem? I want to avoid a complete re-install as much as possible.

    Possible short term fix:
Same issue. Mid 2011 iMac. Updated to 10.7.4 and wifi dropped. The iMac could see any SSID until it was rebooted. My MacBook Air, iPad and iPhone all fine.
I went to Apple tech support and like others was faced with a slippery resistance to the idea that this was anything to do with 10.7.4.
Eventually it was suggested I reinstalled Mac OS (switch off, switch on with cmd and R keys held down. Then follow the process. I wasn't hopeful but was compliant. Imagine my joy when, on coming back to me my iMac asked if I wanted to update to 10.7.4. Of course not!
So reinstalling Mac OS takes you back to 10.7.3. So far so good. Will keep you posted.
Still hoping fpr a proper fix from Apple but they don't seem to be taking seriously
in contrast just updated Omin Group's Omniplan (BTW this is great software for the Mac, check out their offering if you haven't). The update notes:
"It seems as if our fix to the Task: Schedule Inspector in 2.1.1 actually caused more widespread crashes. We've rewritten this code in a more robust fashion and have not seen this problem reappear"
Owning and fixing the problem - Apple guys please take note!
    good luck

  • Macbook Pro/Airport/Leopard drops Net connection after shutdown or sleep

I see all kinds of postings about problems with Airport and Leopard. I am pretty sure that the connectivity problem in my case stems from Leopard alone. I just bought a new Macbook Pro with Leopard installed. I have been using MacBooks running 10.4.x with Airport Extreme for several years with no problems. I still have no connectivity problems with 10.4, which is being used right now on the same Airport network. But, every time I shut down the Mac Pro or put it to sleep, it drops the connection. Here is a very weird thing: If I use network diagnostics, I can get back online right away after I put in my password (which is never saved). If I go through system preferences, it does not recognize my password at all (which is saved). I get this message: incompatible security. What does that mean?? There is something screwy in the Leopard software regarding security and passwords. Does anyone out there have a clue what is going on? I am not a computer expert and have no idea how to change security settings. I'm not even sure what they are. I do not want to do anything that will screw up the connectivity with the Macbooks running 10.4.11.

I had the same problem on my MacBook Pro for the last month or so after "updating" to 10.4.10. Yesterday I tried Loki's fix but couldn't connect at all after that. So I did an archive/install of 10.4.9 and it works better than ever before. I get full signal and it is a lot snappier and faster. The problem is likely in the 10.4.10 update, hopefully Apple will get that fixed in 10.4.11

  • Dropping WiFi Connections after new Mac Min and Upgrade

First of all does anyone know why this discussion was archived when there was never a solution posted?
        https://discussions.apple.com/message/12586041?tstart=0#12586041
Secondly (why I found that thread among many others addressing the same problem). I received a new Mac Mini for XMas (cool, I needed it) which worked fine with my other computer and devices (2 iPads, 2 iPhones, 2 Win7 Laptops and 2 Win7 desktops) for a couple days, so I thought. Now all these devices got along very well until Mr. Mini comes along. Then I note wireless drops occasionally, it seemed to come back so I wasn't too upset, yet and decided to deal with it later and enjoy my vacation.
Now, after I allowed Leopard to do its upgrade (I had deferred that) I now have all the above devices dropping wifi and physical LAN connections as long as this Mini is powered on. I shut it off, Internet is blazing, I turn it on, Internet falters and screeches to a halt.
Since all my other devices have worked cooperatively for several years and this device comes along and crashed the party im pretty convinced its not my router or computers. I am not interested in trial and error here. i have many better more important things to do and this is Apples responsability to figure out. I am a very savy IT dude (career professional) and want to get to the bottom of this for everyone.
Soooo.... What changed? Why does this device kill my network when it is turned on (note, no alterations from out-of-the box to any network protocol or config.) and why does a thread (one of many) without a solution get trumped on by Apple?
    Apple?

  • Mac connects then drops wireless connection after startup

Hi, I have a strange problem.  I recently purchased a new MBP.  My old MBP didn't have any problems with the router, but my new one, after coming out of sleep, will be connected to the internet for a couple of seconds, then drop it like it's searching for a signal, then be connected for around 20 seconds but no actual internet connection. I know that it initially is connected because I can refresh the page or connect to a webpage for about 5 seconds, but then it starts "looking" for the signal.  And of course, once it finds the signal, it doesn't actually work for another 20 seconds.  I wanted to blame the router but no other computers have this problem.  Can anyone help me?

If you are using W7 -- scrooge is correct - it is not listed on Linksys' W7 Comp. list - http://tinyurl.com/yd2nv5v  - but it is listed on Microsoft's Comp. list -  http://tinyurl.com/y9vuwdm - confusing!!
FYI - I'm using a #320 router with the WUSB600N adaptor ( Win 7 driver - Ver.3.1.0.1.0 ) on a 64 bit platform desktop with no issues at all - I believe W7 found and loaded correct the driver for the 600 adp. --- or you can check for the correct driver for the adp. in the Device Manager if you decide to try the USB adp.'r

  • SA 540 drops wan connectivity after some time interval

    hello guys,
I have problem.  after a certain period of time (ranging from 2 minutes to several hours) the unit keeps dropping the WAN connection, making the unit unaccessible from the WAN side. The strange thing is, that when the connection is dropped, the unit is perfectly accessible from the LAN side, the WAN LED is still on, status info shows the WAN link up, and packet trace shows broadcasted traffic on the WAN interface, so only the directed communication to and from the ISPs gateway (configured to fix IP) seems to be blocked for some reason. When this happens, then plugging the WAN cable to the Optional WAN port enables traffic again, but it is also dropped after some time, and then only power cycling the unit restores WAN connectivity.
please suggest me as soon as possiblethat how to fix this problem?
    Awaiting for valuable reply.....

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Airport Extreme 802.11G often drops all connections after a client leaves

After I disconnect one of my computers from the network. The network drops every remaining connection a few minutes later. If I try to reconnect I get a "Connection Timeout". I have to power cycle the Extreme to fix the problem. I first noticed it a few months ago when shutting down my work PC but it recently happens when I switch to another network from my MBP.
Running latest firmware 5.7 and OS with IPV6 off
Any ideas why this happens after a computer leaves the network? Very frustrating..... The lights still blink as normal during this state.

Just shutdown 2 pcs and it happened again. The middle light in on solid, the right one is flashing, the left one is off.

  • HH5 + Infinity dropped to ADSL2+ after 1 day

So I already know the answer to this, probably faulty HH5 or line.
We had infinity installed yesterday, I expect the line to settle for 10 days as expected. But the home hub has rebooted 6 times between install and now, checked the logs and it has fallen back to ADSL2+ considering it synced at 68mbps to start off with is quite a big drop.
The wholesale speed checker fails, as I would expected as I'm not connected via VDSL anymore.
I'm going to contact support in the morning, just wanted peoples opinion if there is anything I can do. I don't like the home hubs, but they shouldn't be that bad right?
    Cheers,
    Chris
    Solved!

    Hi chrisjenx,
Are you connected to the Openreach "VDSL" master socket?
I don't think FTTC (VDSL2) fibre broadband should revert back to ADSL by itself.
An FTTC (VDSL2) connection comes from the FTTC DSLAM street cabinet, and your line needs to be connected to a port in the PCP which is associated to a port in the DSLAM cabinet.
I don't think the FTTC DSLAM will automatically revert you back to ADSL.
Hopefully another community member who has a bit more experience or knows what may have happened will reply.

  • Printer keeps dropping wireless connection after working for a while

My computer stops being able to communicate with the printer wirelessly even thought the printer says it is connected to the network and both the printer and computer are on the same network. What happens is I connect the printer to the network and print something from my computer. Then, after a short while, half an hour maybe, when the printer shows it is connected to the network, I try to print but my computer can't find the printer. The message say the printer cannot be found. If I go to the printer, and reconnect with the wireless connection wizard I can print. But after a short time, I won't be able to print again and have to do the wireless connection wizard again. Wireless direct is off. Don't know if that matters.

These settings are for setting up your wireless printer to stay connected to your router, keep wireless devices better connected and makes your router secure and hack proof.
Set a static IP in the printer (click here) outside the DHCP range of the router (check your manual). This is for Linksys routers but can be used for all routers. Verify your DHCP range and change this first if needed. More Wireless Printing help is here (Windows solution 4, static IP).
Verify in the printer that 'Auto Off/Sleep' is disabled.  Use the Embedded Web Server (EWS) by going to the printers IP address in your browsers address bar, click Settings Tab/Auto Off. Or use the Printer Assistant, Printer Home Page (EWS). Also check your Printers Properties.
If the printer supports and has IPv6 enabled, turn off IPv6 in the printer.
If needed and you assigned a static IP address, try using 8.8.8.8 for the Preferred DNS server and 8.8.4.4 at the Alternate DNS server.
In the router: (Refer to your router manual for information)
Use a fixed wireless channel like 1, 6 or 11, never 'auto', try channel 1 first then the rest.
Set router to 20Mhz only, or 145Mbps depending on router.
Always use WPA2-AES (Personal) encryption, but you can try ‘mixed’ mode.
Disable WPS and never use it and disable UPnP for the routers security. Nobody can hack your system now and helps with wireless connectivity (if you want to know why, search the web).
If you have a dual band router (2.4Ghz and 5.0Ghz bands), make sure the SSID’s are NOT the same, they must be different for all bands, even for any Guest networks.
    SSID broadcast must be enabled.
Save all settings. Power off both, wait 2 mins.  Power on router wait 2 mins.
Power on printer and verify it reconnects to router.

My 1st phone randomly displayed message saying "The MObile network setting needs to be turned on. The 2nd replacement phone does the same thing at random all over Phoenix.
Verizon said they have never heard of this problem and there have been no issues with the 2.1 upgrade..so far that is the story from 2 reps. My 3rd replacement phone is on its way...will it fix my problem?? Tried to get them to replace the phone with a nother model but they would only do it at full retail price....wow I use this for business and it is costing me money......If this doesn't fix it I guess I'll keep asking for replacement phones till it finally works properly again......
A very unhappy HTC Eris user...

Hi.  I am sorry you are having issues with your HTC Eris and I will be happy to look into this for you.  When did you get the 2.1 update?   Try to dial *228 option 2 to update your roaming to see if that helps.  If it does not, we may need to reset your entire device to see if that works.

  • Macbook Pro (15in) - 10.6.4 - Drops VPN Connection after 60 seconds

Just received the above machine, setting it up. I'm attached to our wireless network here at work, and that works perfectly.
I configured VPN and it connects... seemingly... ok. But after 60 seconds it tells me the VPN has disconnected. One thing, though... I have the checkbox selected to send all traffic over VPN, and during the 60 seconds of supposed connectivity... I can't get to any site thru the browser.
Then when VPN disconnects obviously the site comes right up in Safari.
