2iPhones, 2 iCloud IDs, shared ID for AppStore - What about Back Up to PC via iTunes?

I've seen various versions of a similar issue but nothing that specifically addressed our question so here it is...
We have 2 iPhones - wife & hub
We each have our own AppleIDs for iCloud services.
Hub uses wife's AppleID in AppStore.
This allows us each to have our own mail, contacts, calendar, messages, imessage, facetime, etc AND to also have apps purchased via the same account. BUT we have different apps on our phones and the phones are organized differently - her's has nice folders and mine has apps all over the place.
We were told that it would be a good idea to also manually back up our phones to our shared PC using the iTunes software we just installed on the PC.
After connecting wife's iPhone to PC the first time, it asked for AppleID. Easy question for her since she only has one. Phone backed up just fine.
Connected hub's iPhone to PC first time and it asked for AppleID. Not such an easy question. I have no idea which ID to use. I want my own local back up on the PC - which includes backing up my personal data (contacts, messages, etc) and the apps that I have on MY phone and NOT the apps that she has on hers.
So...if I use MY AppleID when connecting my phone to PC-itunes, does that mean that I'm not backing up any apps on my phone, since they all were bought (or downloaded) via her ID?
If I use HER AppleID when connecting my phone to PC-itunes, will iTunes on the PC combine our data (I've read a lot of SYNCING nightmares along these lines) and if I have to restore MY phone will I end up with her stuff (contacts, messages, etc) and her apps and phone organization instead of my own?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi. Thanks for replying. I already read that KB article. Unfortunately it does not address the specifics of my question/issue.
Yes, iTunes recognizes that the NAME of my phone is different from my wife's. That's VERY different from the AppleID question. BUT there is nothing in any documentation that I can find that will explain how iTunes will treat my phone and it's contents, for the purposes of back-up and restore - whether I log into iTunes on the PC using MY AppleID or my wife's AppleID.
I have yet to get past just connecting my phone because after it connects, it asks for the AppleID and, per my original post, I don't know which one to use and how using one or the other will affect the final outcome.

I've just bought an iPhone 5S in the UK, seems like a big mistake, but luckily by law we can return goods, which is exactly what is going to happen if I cant get this to work. This is my business phone, not having it functional can cost me money.

The phone currently has no contacts or calendar information installed.

  • ICloud and Apple ID are different, what about Itunes Match??

My apple ID, what I use to purchase apps and songs with, is different than my iCloud ID which I use to synch mail, contacts, etc with.
Now that iTunes Match is live, and I am using it, what is going to happen when I do a synch? Has anyone in my situation tried yet?
Im wondering if, when my phone goes to the cloud to synch, it wont see any music under my iCloud ID and just not synch that, or will it be ok this way? It has worked great up to now, but am worried.
If you are wondering why I dont just try it, well it seems the servers at Apple are once again overloaded and I cant do anything more with iTunes match then what initially synchronized. I get a time out error now. So I thought I would ask the question and try to resolve any potential problems before they happen!

I was in the exact same situation as you. I had an Apple ID I purchased all my songs/movies/shows/apps with, and a completely different one that I used for iCloud. I decided that for iTunes Match, I'd just use my iCloud ID, and it's been great. I never have to use my old account. Whenever my old apps have updates, my iPhone just asks me for my password (it remembers my old email), and the updates download. It's easy and great - you'll be fine. Enjoy iTunes Match!

  • Safari for windows what about Panther ?

Why is it that Apple will go threw the trouble and make Safari for Windows and yet leave it's own OS (10.2 and 10.3 ) out in the cold ? I use Safari as my default browser and yet can't get past 1.3.2 and here Windows gets a nice and shiny new version of our browser , what gives?

Excellent question, i wondered this myself. I personally couldn't even download WebKit nightly build, we concluded, me & the one helpful poster to my question, Webkit ( Safari w/ bug fixes) is for os Tiger 10.4 Only!!
Which is now up to 10.4.10, hmm no 10.3.10 for Panther, or Jaguar, no webkit no S3, but ahh yes one for Windows, and the beat goes on.

  • Windows 7 for 40$ - what about this ?

    i received this email
"This is not the retail version from the store shelf, but it is the one that Microsoft gives out at IT Professional Conference Meetings to Engineers and Sales Professionals who are invited to come to these meetings.
Since it does not have the "Activation" policy files attached to the disk,it was not sold to the public, instead it is used to promote their software which is a regular practice with Microsoft Corp.
It is not a beta version, trial version, pre-release or anything like that.
Although this is a copied DVD and not an "official Microsoft disk" it works exactly the same, and has even more benefits since it has no activation files, it can be installed unlimited times on as many computers as you like which is a big plus! "

  • FTTC IS PRETTY PANTS FOR ME, WHAT ABOUT FTTP?

I am trying to get BT Infinity installed (have been for two months now) switching from Sky unlimited top package with current speeds around 12-15mb.
Engineer came out to install BT but couldn't. Something to do with no free ports on cabinet. So I am not actually connected yet.
I talked to an Openreach friend and the engineer and found that probably due to the age of my house 1955 the fibre enabled cabinet about 10m away does not feed my house. I am less than 1km to exchange but about half of that or more away from my cabinet! So I got 500m fibre and 500m copper!
So my "superfast fibre" will be 20mb rather than say 60mb or so it would be to the local cabinet. Sorry if this seems greedy to those who get even slower speeds!
I tried to call BT to find out if I could get Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) but noone could give me a definitive answer.
I checked on the wholesale BT link but that just lists FTTC - 20.4mb. So does that mean I cant?
Is there anyway I can get redirected to connect my DP (telegraph pole) to my nearest cabinet?
Or would they have to dig up the road to connect that?
It is very frustrating. Hardly seems worth paying for up to 80mb superfast broadband on Infinity 2 when I can't even get Infinity 1 speeds. Should I also downgrade my service? (only difference I can see is some cloud space I dont care about).

As FTTP I forgot the OD (On Demand) bit on end. Thanks
Here is info I found on that:
    http://www.openreach.co.uk/orpg/home/products/super-fastfibreaccess/fibretothepremisesondemand/fttpo...
I guess there is no more info right now though

  • ICloud family sharing and iTunes Match

    Apple,
I have setup iCloud family sharing accounts for my household as it is definitely a more convenient way to 'approve' of apps for my kids' devices. Unfortunately, I discovered that Apple has not included the ability to share iTunes Match content to family users. This creates a problem as the kids don't have separate computers and I don't intend to create separate iTunes libraries for them on the same computer where I would end up having duplicate libraries. Even if I accept that issue I would have to subscribe to match for 4 people in my house to the tune of $99.96 a year. This is NOT feasible and so now I find my self evaluating the benefit/future need for even my iTunes Match subscription. At this point, I am moving all of my music that was "matched" to my NAS and will have everyone access it using an iOS app. The thing is that this doesn't fit the, "it just works" commitment that Apple offered to it's users. It may be that you are limited by the labels/RIAA and they will not allow you to pass the matched content through family sharing but you are making a compelling case for my to just drop my Match subscription even though I have subscribed to it since you first offered it. My subscription is up for renewal in January 2015 so let's see if you fix this issue by then.

So, in iTunes, when you look at the shuffle's content (in the sidebar) and click on the playlist under the shuffle, over to the right, the songs are in your desired order, correct?  Where do you look, or what do you do, that indicates the playlists are in alphabetical order?  Are you saying that when you play the songs while using the shuffle, they play in alphabetical order?
If so, when you listen to the songs on the shuffle, are you using the playlist, or are you using the All Songs list? If you are in the default All Songs list, with the shuffle's power switch set to play-in-order (the middle position), the songs play alphabetically, I believe.
The 3rd gen shuffle uses VoiceOver.  If you are in the All Songs list, you need to use VoiceOver to switch to the playlist (see manual linked below for details).  When you are in the playlist (with the shuffle's power switch set to play-in-order), then the songs should play in playlist order.
There are more details in the manual for the 3rd gen shuffle, which is online here
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/iPod_shuffle_3rdGen_UG.pdf
See page 22 for the section about setting up and using VoiceOver.  The part about switching playlists starts on page 23 (Using the Playlist Menu).

  • Can't update the info for my music (e.g., artist names, ratings) on iTunes anymore.

I used to be able to update the info for my music (e.g., artist names, ratings) via iTunes, but it doesn't work anymore. In the past I'd change it in the music tab underneath my phone's tab. Using one band as an example, it's all spelled exactly the same on my computer in both music tabs (under my phone and on my computer), but it has various spellings still on my phone. Also, when I rate a song on my phone, it no longer shows when I plug into iTunes. I rate songs 1 star if I want to delete them later but it just doesn't work anymore. How can I fix this? Thanks in advance.

I agree that it should work. But for some reason it does not.
    Suggestions here -> http://www.apple.com/feedback/
However, I don't understand why you want to keep songs with incorrect info and then correct them on the phone every time you add them to the phone. Most people would want to do it one time.

  • HT204053 My kids now each have an itouch, should we all have different apple ids even if I am paying for all itunes and app store purchases? what about icloud? I would like to share itunes and app purchases, but not necessarily photos...help please!

My kids now each have an itouch, should we all have different apple ids even if I am paying for all itunes and app store purchases? what about icloud? I would like to share itunes and app purchases, but not necessarily photos...help please!

The recommended solution for most families is to share the same Apple ID for iTunes and App Store purchases, so you can share your purchases, but us different IDs for iMessage, FaceTime and iCloud.  With this arrangement, each person can automatically download purchases made on the shared ID (by turning this feature on in Settings>iTunes & App Stores), while keeping their FaceTime calls, text messages and iCloud data (including photo stream) separated.  There is no requirement that the ID you use for purchasing be the same as the ID you use for these other services.

  • Questions about going to multiple iCloud IDs for Family

My wife and I have an iPhone and we also have an iPad that stays at the house everyone uses including our kids. I've always had my Apple ID logged in to the store part so we can share all paid apps and music. The iPad also has my id logged in under iCloud so it's using the iCloud ID that is associated with my store ID, which is the same as my gmail account. If I want to change that one to the family one like the guide on iMore talks about, would I do the following steps or am I missing something? Say for this my gmail is [email protected] and it also gave me [email protected] [email protected]
    Existing iCloud/iTunes account:
Login to manage my apple ID and change the "Apple ID and Primary Email Address" from [email protected] to the alternate of [email protected]? Do I have to use [email protected] or can I create a new icloud email called [email protected] and set that as my "Apple ID and Primary Email Address"?
    Create New iCloud IDs:
I created a new iCloud Email address/account for me and my wife. We would each sign in to our own under iCloud to have seperate storage and to have find my friends work.
We would each continue to setup our gmail accounts as exchange.
By doing this, and going on the phone and changing the store login to [email protected] or [email protected], would that still have all my purchases moved from the [email protected] to the [email protected]?

It's not necessary to merge the iCloud and iTunes Store accounts. The Family Organizer should use their own iCloud account when setting up Family Sharing. You'll also be asked to supply the iTunes Store account you want to use to share music, movies, apps, etc., with your family during the setup process. It appears Apple has already addressed this common problem.

  • HT201079 Under iCloud family sharing for iTunes is a family member other than the organizer able to make purchases

Under iCloud family sharing for iTunes is a family member other than the organizer able to make purchases?

Any member of the family group can make purchases, but they are all charged to the organizer's credit card.  For children (under 13) you can also enable Ask to Buy, and their purchases will require your approval (see Family Sharing and Apple IDs for kids).

  • ICloud Drive, what about sharing contacts with my older iOS devices?

Hi folks, I have finally upgraded my Macbook Pro to Yosemite and my iPhone 5S to iOS 8 and Monday will be the promising iOS 8.1.
During the process I have been offered to also update my iCloud account to iCloud Drive.
Sounds cool and necessary to benefit from a few extra features however I still own and use a iPhone 3GS and another iPhone 4.
It's clear that with iCloud Drive I won't be able to share documents among those devices; I can live with that but what about my contacts, calendars and Safari bookmarks not to mention Photos and iTunes Match, would that be the end of it or would those later services still be shared among older and newer devices?
I can't see it clearly stated among iCloud Drive specs and now I am hesitating with the update..
    P

Hi randers4, your explanation convinced me and I have made the plunge and upgraded to iCloud Drive.
It works as you explained, all other services such as Safari Bookmarks, Reminders, Contacts and keep syncing data among them. Nice.
It will be interesting however, how custom folders and files, will share among different users.
Haven't found much documentation on that either but suspect the mechanism won't be as refined as in DropBox.
For instance: as far as I can see, I can't create/copy a link to one specific folder I have created but have to use either Mail, Messages, or one of the SocialMedia I have registered on the Mac.
But perhaps I should start a new topic on this
    Thanks and regards
