2x iBooks ,Same spec & identical...

software installed...basically both machines are exact in spec ,updates ,software ,everything but there is a very big speed difference between the 2x books when using apps ,opening app, email, www etc ,basically everything really..... but they have 2 different (makers) types of ram fitted. Both ibooks have 1GB installed RAM.IT just seems likes theres a bottleneck on the samsung ram fitted ibook.
The faster iBook (or seems quicker to me) has Kingston 512mb pc2700 fitted
The slower iBook has a Samsung branded (but crucial sticker on it) RAM at 512Mb pc2700 and it seems as though theres still 512Mb in it as there really is no difference and the ibook has recognised it as it shows 1gb.
Is there truth that there is a big difference between ram or am i imagining it.help or advice would be appreciated
cheers
nicky

I would suspect more of a hard drive issue rather
than RAM. RAM is going to work or fail... it
typically isn't slow.
How much free hard drive space is available on each
of the iBook's hard drives?
The available space on both drives is 28.84gb
What are the specs on the hard drives in each iBook?
MODEL:Toshiba MK4025GAS ,REVISION:KA103B
What are the clock speeds of these iBooks?
1.33GHZ

  • Two Macbooks, same spec, yet one has major connectivity issues

    Hi,
I have two (old - 2006) macbooks, bought at exactly the same time, exactly the same spec, probably off the same factory line. Yet one has serious Airport issues which are proving very difficult.
It will pick up a maximum of one wireless network, which it barely is able to connect to. There are 3 wireless networks in this house yet it only picks up the nearest one. The other macbook can pick up at least 15 other networks despite being exactly the same spec and on the desk next to it.
Even when it connects to my network, connections are frequently dropped - over 50% packet loss generally.
Both are running the same OS and are exactly the same spec. I have tried resetting the PRAM, deleting the airport prefs, resetting the SMC; you name it I've tried it. I noticed that this is quite a common issue with Snow Leopard + Airport, but I am now thinking it could be a faulty Airport card. Could this be the case?

You already mentioned that you thought that "it could be a faulty AirPort card". I agreed and offered another possibility as well.
Whether or not you are using Snow Leopard, if you have a faulty wireless card or a faulty antenna connector, you will most certainly have major connectivity issues.
You've already performed all the standard troubleshooting steps and mentioned that you felt it may be a hardware issue.
If you have changed your mind and feel that it's a Snow Leopard issue, (logic would dictate that it would have also affected your other identical computer the same way) you have the option of reinstalling the operating system to see if that might help.

  • Why does a page open in safari on my iBook, same page won't open on my iMac

this is driving me crazy. since the last security update or so, (not 10.4.6) i have not been able to load my 4 most used pages in safari on my iMac, they just won't load. every other site loads. no problems accessing the same pages on my iBook, same apple updates as my iMac and i sync the bookmarks through dot mac. i've read the threads, trying all pieces of advice, except disk warrior or whatever the utility was. but wait there's more. opera, and camino won't open these pages on my iMac either. i have copied the 3 internet.plist and safari.plist from my iBook and put them in preferences on my iMac. still no go.
i'd be most grateful for any other ideas or suggestions.
    cheers

    my solution...
did a repair disk from the 10.4 disk.
it found some "problems" that needed repair on
the volume. not sure what that means and sorry
i didn't make note of it.
most important, safari is working like a charm
    and my iMac seems zippier.
    cheers

Only you can make that determination. All things being equal the 2.5 GHz model is slower.

  • Mac Mini i7 Late 2014: same specs of 13" Retina MBP?

In the last 2 years I have been using a 13" Macbook Pro 2011 im clamshell mode connected to a 47" LG HDTV with a Apple keyboard and an Apple trackpad. I just realized I don't need a laptop anymore. This MBP just died. I was checking the specs of the late 2014 Mac Mini and realized the i7 built to order model has the same specs of the 13" Retina Macbook Pro. Are they the same machine? Dothey have the same performance? Are the only differences the display, keyboard and trackpad? If this is right, I'll get a Mini (i7, 16GB RAM, 512 SSD) instead to replace my dead MBP with a 13" Retina MBP (i5, 8GB RAM, 512 SSD) for the same price in NY's B&H.

They are basically the same. The Mini also has an ethernet port and more USB ports and and ir receiver. They hae same processor and built-in iris 5100 graphics

  • HMRC tools won't work on my iMac but will load on another iMac of same spec.

HMRC PAYE Tools stoped working so I did a full install and re load of this software but when opened it opens a box that says it's creating history tables and just hangs there. I've tried in stalling the same download on an identical iMac and it works fine but I need it on this Mac.
    Any help very gratfully appreciated

Thanks, I had tried that and with the same result. Sincd my lasy reply I uninstalled Flash and the App works.  I am assuming that there is a clash between the App and the latest flash player.
I would like to thank you very much for your help and your time. I have only had my Mac for about 5 months so am still working my way through learning the intimacies of it. People like you make all the difference.
    Very best wishes

  • Oracle EBS is patehtically working on VM Ware although it has same specs as of physical machine.

    Hi Everyone,
We are running Oracle EBS on Physical machine having specs as follows:
    DB
X2 Quad Core Xeon 2.4 GHz
    32 GB RAM
x2 146GB SAS Drive with RAID-1 for OS
    SAN HDD x10 450GB SAS 15K i.e. 4.0TB but RAID-5 implemented (2.3TB allotted to DB)
    x4 NIC but 1 NIC used 10/100/1000
    Apps
X2 Quad Core Xeon 2.4 GHz
    32 GB RAM
x2 146GB SAS Drive with RAID-1 for OS
    SAN HDD x10 450GB SAS 15K i.e. 4.0TB but RAID-5 implemented (500GB allotted to Apps)
    x4 NIC but 1 NIC used 10/100/1000
We are facing serious issues when migrated Oracle EBS on vmware infrastructure.
Issue are related to high I/Os and high CPU usage hence performance of the application gets down badly whereas same application on physical machine working fine. We would also like to share physical machine is with lesser specification.
    Following are specs of Oracle & VM Ware machine;
Oracle EBS is with 11g v1.1.07 Database and R12 v12.1.3 Apps
OS for above applications is RED HAT Enterprise Linux 5.5 64bit
    ESXi version 5.5.0 build 1331820
Hope to have a positive reply.

    Hi Linjo,
    Thank you for your response.
VM MAchine specs are as follows:
(There are two servers, everything is same except local storage.)
    Both servers are HP DL 585 G7 server with;
    Quad AMD Opteron Processor 2.5GHz
    12GB RAM
    x8 NIC
    Local-1 HDD x8 600GB SAS 10K i.e. 5.4TB, RAID-5 implemented
    Local-2 HDD x10 900GB SAS 10K i.e. 7.2TB, RAID-5 implemented
    SAN
    SAN-1 HDD x6 600GB SAS 15K i.e. 2.4TB but RAID-5 implemented
    SAN-2 HDD x6 2TB SAS 7.2K i.e. 8TB but RAID-5 implemented
Yes, it is a shared environment, like we have other machines are running on VM but we have dedicated cores & memory for EBS Apps & DB servers.

  • Are PC World (UK) iMacs the exact same Spec as those bought in the Apple Store?

I am looking to purcahse a 27" iMac Late 2013 model (Haswell).
I have vouchers for Currys/PC World stores in the UK and want to know if the iMacs available in these stores are the same technical specs as those bought off the shelf in an Apple Store?
I ask as some of the technical specs given in their online literature seems to differ from those described on the Apple site.
I am looking to buy the £1,749 version but note that on the PC World website M-EO89B/A it doesn't show the processing speed to be 3.4Ghz but 3.2Ghz, which is the spec for the 'cheaper' 27". It also doesn't show the 802.11ac but 802.11n.
However, if I am going to pay out this money then I want the best system available. So are the specs the same or is this just poorly worded descriptions on their site?
    Thank you.

You should take it up with PC World, if possible with the store manager.   If they're promoting the ones you have seen that is one thing,  if it is standard stock, that is another.  In the case of the latter, ask if they can order to the specifications you prefer and make your order conditional on that.   And if that were possible, ask if the machine will be pre-loaded with Mavericks.

  • Are multiple captures of the same clip identical?

Should multiple captures of exactly the same footage be exactly identical? I would expect them to be, but I am doubtful. Here is what I did:
    1) Created a new offline clip, specifying media start, media end, and reel number.
    2) Captured the clip created in step 1.
    3) Copied the file captured in step 1 to a drive other than the one used for capturing.
    4) Repeated step 2.
The files created in steps 2 and 4 are not exactly the same size (close, but not exact), and are therefore not identical. Is there something other than video information that explains the difference in size, perhaps the time they were captured?
    John Link

Some drives report the size of the file in drive sectors occupied. You can get different sizes for two copies of the same file depending on how efficiently the file was written to disk.

  • Same specs different print results - hp 130 mac versus PC

ok, the hp tech support has been no help in this all year.
Using the most current drivers, updates, ect.
Using the same printing specs on preview or acrobat (mac) and acrobat (xp, or 2000 on fusion or parallels), I get totally different print quality results. The mac substantially inferior to the pc printing.
I'm really trying to wean myself from using the PC partitions at all, but printing is really bad using the mac side. ALL OTHER FACTORS ARE EQUAL. same paper, same quality specs, just different results. After trying to get HP support to verify, they said it was a leopard issue. I don't recall any issues using the Tiger OS from Macbook, but can't be sure.
Anyone else having print issues with HP from mac to PC?

Which kind of 'HP 130'? In any case, go to <http://www.linuxfoundation.org/en/OpenPrinting/MacOSX/hpijs> and see if your printer is on the supported list. I've found that those drivers work much better than the ones which ship with the printer, _despite being developed by HP employees_. Why HP doesn't ship those drivers instead of the dreck they do ship is something you'd have to ask them.
These guys <http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/MacOSX.php3> also have drivers which are better than the ones that ship with HP's printers. Check them out and see if your printer is supported.

  • Teststand project transfered to different machine (same specs) and the Initiate fails

    Hi all,
I am working on a bench setup with different intruments controlled by GPIB (HP E3631 power supply, Keithley 2400 etc). We are using teststand, which calls the dll generated from Labwindows/CVI environment. Our project is recently transferred to a different machine and now the communication (initiate command) fails with the HP E3631 and rest everything is working fine. I also tried running NI spy and I see nothing when I execute the instructions seperately for HP E3631.
Can someone please help me to narrow down where the possible problem can be ( everything remains the same from the old machine to new machine). ?
    Regards,
    Nivesh

The driver that is used on both the machines is exactly the same copy. As i told earlier a Labwindows/CVI generated dll is called from the Teststand program. The only difference is that the machine_1 (working with E3631) have the Labwindows/CVI version 5.5 installed and the other machine has version 5.0. I am also attaching the generated Spy logs for both the machines:
    1) Machine 1 has instructions for both the Kiethley and E3631 in the spy file.
    2) Machine 2 has instructions only for the Keithley and it fails when it reaches the initiate instruction for E3631.
        Error code > (-1074135040 : User defined)
    Thanks in advance.

  • Will iPod touch ever have the same specs as an iPhone?

I prefer Android for a phone but I have an iPod touch 4th gen as a bedside music player/alarm clock/game player docked in a radio/speaker dock, but I realized after buying it that it didn't have the same processor or screen as the iPhone 4, so looked kind of crappy and didn't run a lot of games or apps well that I wanted to use that did run well on an iPhone 4.
Now that I'm thinking of upgrading to a modern iPod touch (5th gen? iOS 7, not sure what the processor is) but I'm afraid I'll be in the same situation since app developers are programming for the iPhone 6 now. Also I want to have 128GB so I can put all of my music uncompressed on it, but I feel that's a pipe dream since the current one only goes up to 64GB. I really would pay more to have a touch that's basically an iPhone without the phone/data part.
Is it worth upgrading? I would have to get rid of my dock and buy a new one with a lightning plug. I'm really afraid Apple will discontinue the iPod touch like they did the Classic and if I want to play iPhone games and have a nice radio dock I'll just have to buy an iPhone (since Android docks don't support controlling the device with the dock buttons like iOS does).

Hey Dhinged, If you want solid facts, can not answer your question, only Apple knows. If you don't mind speculations try Goggle. For part two, don't buy phone or data plan, no SIMS card activation, no phone functions. But with the iPhone having a history of being roughly twice the cost of an iPod-- that's one expensive iPod. Part of what keeps the cost of an iPhone down is the phone contract, the full cost of the phone is part of the contract, if you opt out of a contract then you will have buy the whole phone at full cost. I would look at purchasing an iPad or wait and see if there is anything solid about the iPod 6 in October. Hope this helps, Cheers.
