Other than the obvious cost difference is there any disadvantage getting the 3.0.

You will find that if you bought 8GB RAM (4 x 2GB) and 3TB (4 x 750GB) of drives from 3rd party suppliers yourself you'd probably save enough to essentially get the 3GHz upgrade for "free". Not to mention you'll have the choice of which components you want.

Why is it slow as stated above? - Maybe because flexibility always comes at a price !!! Maybe the internal implementation of the call sequence by the JVMs is such that it cannot be implemented any faster...

Unlike Mr. Galt, I don't use TM, preferring bootable clones made with Carbon Copy Cloner. Disadvantages?
1. not bootable, so useless if the boot volume goes south, without reinstalling the OS and hoping that restores the boot volume. Alternatively, you can wipe the boot volume, reinstall the OS, and hope the TM backup is restorable. Contrast with booting into a clone and immediately knowing if it works. If so, then you're back in business.
2. TM requires always having the ext HD connected and powered up. I prefer connecting ext FWHDs and updating clones on my schedule, not Apple;'s,
3, I've never had to retrieve something I changed or deleted, so TM holds no value for me.

I am working in DV, I want to reduce final files size by exporting using Quicktime Conversion> H.264, I want to know if there are any disadvantages to using this codec for the final exported file?

Am wondering if there is any kind of app or software that supports rpc over http in exchange 2003 enviroment for iphone?? I am looking for solution for my company employees so that they can get emails securly to their hand held devices. I found one called "good" but havent used yet and dont know if there is any configuration fro rpc over http. Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

The number of apps currently available in the App Store compatible with both iOS 4.2.1 and the iPhone 3G hardware (a major limitation) is dwindling rapidly. If you don't already have a supply of apps, your choices are getting fewer and fewer. TIme to consider upgrading the phone.

Part of update was enabling Global Services - any disadvantage to this?

Looking at the features list, it seems like the default with enabled global services is that you can make calls elsewhere with a per unit of usage charge. The cost without using it is listed as $0.00. Is there any disadvantage to having this enabled on the phone in terms of hidden costs, or performance hits?

While in the USA, you probably won't run into any problems in global mode, but it won't make any difference performance wise either, so you may want to just leave it in CDMA/LTE mode. While traveling, if you can a local prepaid SIM, that would probably be cheaper while in global mode.

one feature of the watch I'm very interested in is the ability for it to communicate over wifi to my phone. Put the phone down or be charging it in another room and still use the watch. So far it works fine Bluetooth but I haven't had any success wifi. Phone is definitely connected wifi. i don't see any options on the watch or watch app on the phone that would address this . I cannot 'add' a persona. I can only hover over it. Any clue why?

I want to add a seasonal persona skin to my homepage. I never had a problem with this until now.
I can hover over the image and my screen image changes, but when I try to add, nothing happens.
I went to tools>page info>permissions>install extensions(add-ons) and checked allow but still nothing
happens. I am running the latest FF on windows 7. I also tried uninstalling and re-installing FF.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your responses. Evidently one of my extensions was causing the
problem. It wasn't the persona extensions but that probably didn't help.
I reset FF and now my personas work. I will gradually add my extensions back
and then I may find out which one was the problem.

To have your preferred browser make itself the default again, it may well prompt you, or you can check its Options dialog.

I've had my macbook pro for a year and I've gone through 4 pairs of different headphones because my mac blows out on of the earphones. I've tried different brands and nothing seems to last over 2-3months. any advice? is it my mac?

I've had a set of Shure earbuds for over 3 years used on both iPod, desktop PC and MBP and have not had any problems with them. Actually I have 2 pairs. One costing around $100 and the other about $300. That may be out of your price range.

Having done my research it appears there is a bug that has been around for a while that remains unfixed. I was hoping the recent update 2.0.1 may have resolved this issue.
This is unique to Safari. While 'Window Mode' and using 'z-index' enables you to overlay a div layer in other browsers, it doesn't fully work in Safari. For sure, the functionality was added, but any dynamic interaction, for example CSS roll-over, makes the background Flash jump to the foreground. Lots of flashing and flickering. Other than that we love Safari, just a shame it has taken so long to fix this since version 1. Any idea when this will be fixed?

I have also had difficulty with flash and CSS layers in Safari. The on(release) action of some buttons in a flash movie I was working on would not function; however, the animated "over" states would function. The site's php/css programmer removed a css layer that was BEHIND the flash file and the functionality of the flash file was restored.
A fix for this type of behavior ( or a work around ) would be helpful.
Safari is a great browser -- an excellent gauge for global accessibility.

Workflow: AVCHD to Proxy editing (no optimizing), Export from original media. Any disadvantages?

I've been reading AVCHD threads for FCP 7 and now FCP-X for a year or two. I understand the concepts. Now with FCP-X, I don't see any advantages to optimizing media to Apple Pro Res 422 on import. I'd be using the Pro Res Proxy and then ultimately exporting out with the original source files. The Proxy files will make editing fast, the export from source files removes any chance of generation loss, and not optimizing to Pro Res 422 at import will save a ton of backup space over the years. I realize the final export may take a bit longer from the raw AVCHD files vs. from Pro Res 422 media (how long I don't know yet).
Based on this scenario, any good reasons as to why I should be also creating the Apple Pro Res 422 files? Am I missing anything?

No. You don't have to do this. Playback is just that, playback. When exporting, FCP X will not use transcoded media as the source. Yes, this is true. You can either do the method you described (copying the event to/from external to internal drives), or have the event on your laptop with the original source media on the external drive. Proxy media would be generated and stored in the Event folder (on your internal drive) while source media remains on the external drive. Just don't select 'copy into event folder' when importing the source media.
