30-bit "Deep Color" Support lacking?

Well, I just manually set my display depth to 30-bit, I have a Dell U2410, which supports 96% of the adobe RBG spectrum, at 1.07bn colors, and 30-bit deep color. I have a graphics card with HDMI 1.3, and am connected via HDMI.
I'm using a GTX 460, and may I just say that things don't look right.
Every GTK application has a blinds-like transparency to them on flat menu surfaces (ex. Firefox's menu bar is semi-transparent with opaque lines through it, showing the background behind)
Non GTK Applications seem to render just fine (Chromium, for example worked great) Compiz limits the window rendering region to roughly 75% of the screen, centered vertically, this region is surrounded by a strange "blue glowing border"
I'll update this post with a screenshot in a second to better depict the picture, but am I alone on this?
Edit: Cannot take screenshots apparently, either... they just show up black.

moetunes wrote:How did you set it up to 30bit and why didn't you just go with the default 32bit ?
The default color depth in Xorg (and Windows, Mac) is 24-bit, with an 8-bit alpha channel ("32 bit");
This is 8 bits per channel, Red, Green Blue and Alpha (3 color channels, 1 alpha channel, 8bpc = 32 bits of information) this gives us the normal 16.7m colors.
In my case I have a monitor supporting 30 bit color, which totals 1.07bn colors
I set this in xorg.conf. DefaultDepth 30 and Depth 30 in their proper locations. The majority of things renders fine, barring things like images rendered via Feh, and GTK stuff. QT applications, and things rendered by my compositing window manager look fine, with the exception of the issue noted above. I'll try and obtain a screenshot using Compiz's screenshot plugin to better describe the issue and provide more information so I can hopefully get more input.
Thanks for the response.

  • How to Create a Custom Color Chooser/Palette with 16 or 24bit Color Support

    Hi All,
I need some help on how to create a color palette/chooser with 16 bit or 24 bit color options available
    First setting up the context:
I am developing an application which allows designing some GUI screens by adding various controls.
Now these GUI Screens developed are compiled and downloaded into a series of display devices with each device having a different color support (For e.g. 256 colors, 16 bit, 24 bit and 32 bit).
Now according to the selected device i would need to provide the "Color Chooser" with only those colors that are supported by the device. SO I need to design a Color Palette(s)/Chooser(s) with 16 bit, 24 bit or 32 bit color options
Could anyone help me out on how to create such palette? A piece of sample code would be a great help
    Best Regards

It is not that simple... reason I almost never use those old captions anymore but replaced them by shapes (much easier to format).
Have a look at the available captions: for each caption you'll need a bmp and a fcm file, and follow naming conventions. See:

  • Problem Converting 8-Bit Palette Color Tiff Document

I have an 8-bit, palette color tiff file that I am trying to convert to PDF with Adobe Acrobat.  However, when I convert the file the palette color pages come out entirely black.  The tiff file looks just fine in Microsoft Office Document Imaging.  Does Acrobat support the conversion of palette color tiffs or am I doing something wrong in either Acrobat or in creating the original tiff file?

  • FAQ: What is the Lumetri Deep Color Engine in SpeedGrade CS6 and CC?

The Lumetri Deep Color Engine is the 32-bit floating-point image processing technology at the heart of SpeedGrade CC. This nondestructive color engine offers maximum latitude for working with RAW and HDR footage, allowing you to pull details from your blacks and highlights that might otherwise be lost.
Details about the Lumetri Deep Color Engine on Adobe.com
The Lumetri Deep Color Engine and Premiere Pro

i have the latest versions of both Premiere Pro and Speedgrade CC but there are no Lumetri "Looks".
In the Effects Tab is can see the Lumetri Effect, but when I click or drag to a clip to apply it, a search window opens up asking me to find where the "Look" files are.
I am on a Mac at the moment - where would I find those "Look" or luts?
    UPDATE!
My bad... The Lumetri Filter is NOT where you would use Lumetri Looks to apply to a clip or adjustment layer. That specific effect filter is for applying your own or other's LUTS.
Scroll down to the bottom of the Video Effects section and you will see another effects filter named "Lumetri Looks" - that is where the "Looks" like Cinematic 1 &2 or located.
Maybe it would be better to have the 2 available Lumetri Video Effects listed next to each other?

Windows Vista 64 Bit and Button Support?

Everybody claiming that Vista x64 (or Ultimate) can't be used with FN keys or Flash Cards is utterly wrong!
I have a Qosmio G30 running Vista x64 Ultimate, and have both FN keys, Toshiba Flash Cards and (partly) the hardware buttons at the top working.

  • I don't have color support in terminals under X

The topic pretty much says it all, I have no colors in any terminal under X but color support is perfect in text mode. How can I enable color support in the X based terminals. I have used several distros up to now, have spend quite some time using freebsd but never had such a problem...

That did it. Thanks very much!

  • [SOLVED] Sup email client 256 colors support

I've installed sup email client (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/sup-git) and wombat theme (https://github.com/mklinik/sup-colorscheme-wombat) for it. But everything become red-colored in the background and white-colored for text (I'm using rxvt-unicode and it has 256-color support so things should work find). I tried to google but found nothing.
I though there is issue with support 256 colors in ncurses so I rebuild this package with necessary flags from pkgbuild: https://projects.archlinux.org/svntogit … es/ncurses and installed it. But due to version differences gem file didn't build after it with message "error while loading shared libraries: libncursesw.so.5: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory" (and also really much stuff broke so I hardly restored original ncurses).
Somebody know the way to use sup with 256 colors in terminal?

jasonwryan wrote:The correct way is to use terminfo: setting the variable in Xresources or anywhere else is an ugly hack that will likely cause other problems down the track...
Not causing problems down the track is the exact reason given for why you should use Xresources to set TERM. The consensus seems to be that the terminal emulator should be the one to set it and using Xresources is one way to do that.
However TERM is set - Xresources, arguments, .bashrc - all that matters is that the capabilities defined in the terminfo file match the actual capabilities of the terminal emulator. Having the terminal emulator do it at least gives it the chance to match capabilities. It also prevents TERM from getting set to the wrong value for other terminal emulators or virtual consoles.
(Also, one does not "use terminfo" to set TERM. Terminfo uses TERM to tell terminal apps the capabilities of whatever they're outputting to.)

  • 48-bit LBA ATAPI support

I would like to know if motherboard K7 Master (MS-6341) include support for 48-bit LBA ATAPI (support for HD with more than 137GB) ?(

    HI donpolde,
    Good question  ?( ,
I would have thought not, but I'm only guessing. As far as I know, it's only been tested (by MSI themselves, described on the K7 Master page) to 40GB. What HD are you using now? 60GB, 80GB?
Anyway, let's hope someone (hopefully, another K7 Master user) will be along in a minute to let you know.
Failing this, try contacting MSI directly by e-mail they should be able to help.
Sorry I've not been more helpful.

  • Photoshop CC 2104 30 bit Color Support

I'm using PS CC 2014 on a Windows 7 64 bit system with an Nvida Quadro 600 graphics card. I've tried every possible settings combination for PS and Windows 7 with no success using the AMD Ramp test file. The Nvida 10 bit Demo works fine. PS CS6 works as well, but only at 64% Zoom view and higher.
    https://forums.adobe.com/message/7154720#7154720
Is anyone using an Nvidia Quadro 600 (not K600) card with Windows 7 having success with 30 bit color mode in PS CC 2014? This card is listed as "tested" in the PS CS6 GPU FAQ, but not on the PS CC 2014 GPU FAQ. I'm assuming it wasn't tested because it's an older card, but still should work.

Read that and the Nvidia PDF multiple times. Basically there's nothing you need to change in the Nvidia driver or Windows 7 Aero mode, but I have tried it in both in Windows Basic and Aero modes. It's "partially" working in PS CS6 and the Nvidia demo works so clearly my NEC PA272w  monitor, Nivida Quadro graphics card and Windows 7 are supporting 30 bit color....just not in PS CC2015 and only partially in PS CS6.
I'm not a newbie at this stuff, so feel free to  talk techie. Thanks!

  • 16-bit color support

It's basically the same in PSE 8.

  • 10-bit color support in Lion?

A Mac Pro with Radeo HD 5870. A Mini Display port output. A 10-bit display (e.g. NEC Multisync PA301W).
All the hardware pieces are in place to be able to display true 10 bit per channel colour depth from within Photoshop CS5.5.
But is the OS support there yet? My understanding is  that previous versions of OS X did NOT support 10-bit color; but I have  been unable to find out if Lion does. The tech specs posted for Lion are... erm, somewhat simplified.
Can anyone chime in and let us know what the status of 10bpc support is in Lion?
    Thanks,
    Jeremy

It hasn't been working for a while. I think it worked in CS4, but I don't have that installed now. This is with an ATI Firepro v4900. At least ATI finally fixed their Screen Capture bug. Adobe doesn't say much about the issue.

  • Windows 7 32 bit with no support for HP Laserjet Pro 400 color M451dn help.

I live in a mac / PC house, I have to admit that the apple movement is growing here.
My problem Is getting my small little PC netbook Windows 7 32 bit to be able to print to my new HP Laserjet Pro 400 M451dn printer which is plugged into my 2 TB Time Capsul.
I have been successfull connecting the mac computer, and my old Windows XP computer and they work perfectly.
Everything is connected throught an etheir net corded network in the house.
I used Bonjour to connect the Windows XP computer and it worked like a charm.
When I used Bonjour to connect with my Windows 7 computer the pinter HP Laserjet Pro 400 M451dn is not listed.  I have a disk with the drivers that came with the printer  but it is a setup disk which is not able to provide the necessary drivers.
If any one has some suggestions I am open to give them a try.  I have a portable CD / DVD player burner that I can hook to the net book as it does not have a CD drive.
    Thanks

Okay, so I'm feeling slightly stupid right now.  I decided I would shut the printer down for about an hour to see if that was it and what do you know- it was!  I had shut it off a few times before but I guess it just wasn't long enough.  What a pain!
Thank you to anyone who took the time to read this!  Sorry to waste anyone's time!!
