32 Bit Version CS5 Default

I have both the 32 bit and 64 bit version of CS5 installed on a Windows 7 machine.  When I open Photoshop files or send files to Photoshop, they open in the 64 bit version.  However, my plugins are 32 bit and I want the 32 bit version of Photoshop to be the default version.  Is there a way to make the 32 bit version the default when opening files?  Hope that makes sense.  Thank you.

Hey there KMS,
I have had the same problem for awhile myself. Through pain staking trail and error. I have discovered a way to fix this very problem.
I will explain the work around first if you feel comfortable doing it yourself. But I strongly recommended Not doing it manually less your really comfortable in Regedit.
This is only tested in Windows7 with photoshop CS5.
All you need to do is change two entries in your registry.
Open start button. Type:   "regedit"    press enter. Navigate to following locations:
1. HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications\Photoshop.exe\shell\edit\command
      Right click Default choose Modify.
     Replace data value:
"C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS5 (64 Bit)\Photoshop.exe" "%1"
                                            with
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS5\Photoshop.exe" "%1"
2. HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications\Photoshop.exe\shell\open\command
      Right click Default choose Modify.
     Replace data value:
"C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS5 (64 Bit)\Photoshop.exe" "%1"
                                            with
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS5\Photoshop.exe" "%1"
Close Regedit
Now all you got to do is right click on a file you wish to use in photoshop 32bit and chose default program.
Select the second photoshop from list. and your all done!!!!!!
Now all fromats that were defaulted to photoshop will use 32bit.
To change back simply reverse regedit changes.
Not sure if links are allowed but I have included a link to script files to do all this for you with instructions.

  • Browse in Adobe Bridge CS6 - default to 64-bit version

I have Adobe Bridge CS6 32-bit and 64-bit installed. I prefer to use the 64-bit version, but whenever I right-click a folder in Windows Explorer and choose 'Browse in Adobe Bridge CS6', the 32-bit version always opens. How can I make this default to the 64-bit version? There doesn't seem to be a way to uninstall the 32-bit version.

    Edit your System Registry on:
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell\Bridge
Change the path that is pointing at 32bit version and set it to point at the location of 64bit version:
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Bridge CS6 (64 Bit)\Bridge.exe "%L"

  • Is there a way to install just the 32 bit version of Photoshop CS5 on a Windows 7 64 bit machine?

I have a custom built Java 6 application that doesn't like Photoshop CS5 64 bit edition.  The program copies over a file from the network to the local machine and then opens it in Photoshop.  The user manipulates the image and saves the changes.  The user then completes the image and the application copies the image back to the server.  The problem we're having is: When we use Photoshop CS5 64-bit, it takes about 2 minutes for Photoshop to open the image.  The file is copied over within 2 seconds and the Photoshop icon on the windows taskbar starts flashing.  But then you spend a few minutes waiting for it to open.
Some things that I have tried to isolate the problem:
    - I found you can copy the file somewhere else, double click on it and the image will open in Photoshop before the script is able to open the file.
    - I tried uninstalling Photoshop and reinstalling just the 64 bit edition without the 32 bit installation.  The script just stops working in this situation.
    - I tried uninstalling CS5 and installing CS3.  The image opens as soon as the file is copied over.
What I would like to try next is to install just the CS5 32 bit version.  But the installer is being uncooperative and will only allow either the 64 bit version or both the 64 and 32 bit versions.  So, back to my question: Is there a way to install just the 32 bit version of Photoshop CS5 on a Windows 7 64 bit machine?

Do you mean schroot?  If so I'm not sure exactly how well that will work out, because the part that depends on python is a deamon that handles communication between the USB dongle and the Tux Droid which may mean hacking the deamon a bit so ether way this does not seem like it will be a easy task.

  • Files default to 32 bit version of Photoshop CS6

After I installed Photoshop CS 6 64 bit on my PC, I discovered I also needed the 32 bit version for twain support, so I then added the 32 bit version.  My problem is now all tiff, PSD, etc. files in Windows Explorer as well as the "Edit In Photoshop" command in Lightroom defalts to and opens up the 32 bit version.  How can I change this to default to the 64 bit version?
I would appreciate any help in correcting this problem.  TIA

No it was in install on a brand new machine, no previous version installed.  I did first install just the 64 bit version and when I discoved 64 bit did not support 32 bit, I added the 32 bit version.
And yes I am selecting the 64 bit version in the open with dialog box, but it still defalts to the 32 bit version.  I have the save problem with Microsoft Powerpoint,  I have an older version installed to assist some clients that haven't upgradded, and I can not get explorer to open the older version and keeps opeing the current version.
So yes it is a windows problem, just wish that Lightroom could be set to open the 64 bit version like you can with Bridge.

  • How to switch to the 32 bit version of CS5(trial) on Mac?

    Hello,
So, I just downloaded the trial version of photoshop CS5 and its currently running the 64 bit version. I want to be able to make gifs so I need the 32 bit version. I've been scrolling through the forum and it seems that the soln given doesn't work since I have the trial version. Any idea how I can get the 32 bit version during my trial period?
    THANKS IN ADVANCE!

You had left out the "Import Video Frames To Layers" part, which is quite different from just "saving GIFs".  That's a whole 'nother story.
In the Mac world, the 32 bit and 64 bit versions of CS5 are just one and the same binary.
You choose which version to launch by checking or unchecking the appropriate version in the Get Info dialog box of the application icon.
First, quit Photoshop.  In the Finder select the application icon (NOT the folder in which it is contained !) and do a Get Info on it:  Command+I:

  • Installed CS5 64 bit and 32 bit versions; Uninstall 32 bit?

I inadvertently installed both the 32 bit and 64 bit versions of CS5  when I should have only installed the 64 bit version. Can I saftely uninstall the 32 bit version? If so, do I need to de-activate it first?
    Thanks,
    Don

Don't be too hasty – a lot of users have found they need both, because not everything works in 64-bit.

  • 64 bit version download for CS5 Production Premium

I am moving my applications from a 4-core PC to a 6-core PC for increased speed.  In so doing, the 6-core will become my second computer with CS5.
Are the 64 bit versions of CS5 Production Premium not on the CS5 discs and were downloaded automatically later still available?

I am organizing all the information I need for a transfer of files and programs from my 4-core PC to my 6-core PC so I apologize if my questions sound trivial.   I could tell the 64 bit version from the 32 bit version because the file included (64 bit) at the end of the name.  If this is the case with the download program then that is simple.
I also have an additional concern regarding download time.  When I tried to download CS5 Production Premium twice on the first 4-core PC, the download quit after a period of time.  This can be a problem with Telco Internet.  I had to order the discs as a result.  I may be lucky with a new Airport Extreme router, due 28th of this month, and the 6-core PC combination.  Do you have transfer using FTP or what do I do if I experience the same problem with my 6-core.  Single programs such as Photoshop would not be a problem.  That is why I asked my original question regarding the download of 64 bit versions that were missing on the discs and sent by download afterwards.

  • How to uninstall only 32-bit CS5 without also uninstalling the 64-bit version?

I have installed both the 32-bit and 64-bit version of CS5 in my Win7 system. Did that because some plugins does not run on 64-bit.
Now I wanted to trial CS6 and so do not wish to have too many versions on my pc.
I want to uninstall ONLY the 32-bit CS5. When I go to either my Uninstaller software or the "Program & Features" of Control Panel, I could only see one icon/program for PS- not 2 (one for 32-bit & 64-bit respectively).
How do I uninstall only the 32-bit without affecting the 64-bit version?
    Thanks.

Probably have to uninstall entire CS5 and then only install 64 bit version.  What will you do with plugins?
Perhaps a better solution is to just install CS6 64 bit.
Some users have problems when they uninstall a previous version.  So best to leave CS5 on if you decide to keep CS6.

  • CS5. 1 32 bit version

Hi, I bought the CS5.1 extended version of Photoshop. I now need to use the 32 bit version. Is it included in the original sale? Can I download it separately?

    Hi Manish,
Thank you for your follow up. Yes, it worked. I downloaded the 32 bit version with the same key.

You have the answer. Already installed would be below and the one to install would be listed above.
Did you installed the 32 bit and is it working?

  • Photos Open in 64 bit version rather than 32

I installed CS5 yesterday and have both the 32 bit and 64 bit versions on my computer.  I copied my plug-ins and they are located in the 32 bit version, so I prefer to have my photos open in that version of CS5.  My problem is that if I have a photo that I want to open from my "Picture" folder it automatically opens in the 64 bit version.  I am not given the option of opening in the 32 bit version.  I know that I can open it from Bridge or Photoshop; however, sometimes I just want to be able to click on the photo and open it in CS5.  Can you help me??

Yes, open Bridge and go to edit/preferences/file type associations.
Scroll down the list and change the default to the x86 version
of PS.  You will have to browse to the bridge.exe
in the 32 bit version and click on it.
    Hope this helps

  • X64Camera Raw and 32 bit version of Photoshop

    Weird question I know
Here is my question - Cs5 installed both 32 and 64 bit version on my Win 7 x64 installation.
Now, some of the plugins are not yet x64 compatible. What I want ACR to do is to open the files in the 32bit version of CS5 when clicking on "Open Image/s"
How can one set this in ACR??
    Many thanks

    Jeff Schewe wrote:
Alternatively you can launch ACR from Bridge which will also open the 32-bit version of Camera Raw.
I don't believe this is correct, Jeff.  In my experience (and many others), the default is 64-bit PS when opened in the sequence Bridge>ACR>PS.
There are scripts floating around the web that will modify the Registry so that ACR will default to 32-bit PS.  Some people also claim that using file associations to specifically link image files to the 32-bit PS (inside of Program Files(x82) will also work although I have not had luck with that method myself.
I will check later to see if I can find some example scripts.  In the mean time, perhaps someone will beat me to it.  I believe they have been included in posts here in the Adobe forums - if not here in Adobe Camera Raw, perhaps the main PS forum.
I was a little disappointed when Adobe didn't include some kind of switch or utility to handle this in CS5 since it has been an annoyance since CS4 and is still a bother for many people who have filters that don't work in 64-bit.

  • We can't install Office 2013 64-bit on a Win 7 PC that had a 32-bit version of Office

We have a development PC running Windows 7 64-bit. This PC has been around for a while, and way back had various 32-bit versions of Office installed, starting with Office 2003 through 2010. Those versions were uninstalled and Office 2013 Pro
Plus 32-bit was the latest version installed. That version was uninstalled using Revo Uninstaller then the registry was cleaned using JV16 to make sure leftover junk from the prior 32 bit version(s) was removed so we could install Office 2013 x64
Pro Plus, which we now need for testing. It won't install because the installer sees something left over from the prior 32 bit version(s). We can't wipe the PC and start over; it has special sensor hardware and software that we can't move to a different PC
and we're on a tight timeline. We searched the registry and the Program Files (x86) folder and subfolders for anything left over from Office without any luck. The error message reads:
We can't install the 64-bit version of Office because we found the following 32-bit
    programs on your PC:
Please uninstall all 32-bit Office programs, then try reinstalling 64-bit Office.
Note that the error message doesn't list the name(s) of any "32-bit programs on your PC" in the error message.
Anybody have an idea how to force an installation of 64-bit Office 2013 Pro Plus?

these tips will help you clean ALL of the bits and pieces of various Office versions you mentioned.
It is not just Office, there are a few other 32 bit MS applications that may block 64 bit installations:
Blocking and nonblocking Office applications in 64-bit installations
If 32-bit Office applications are installed on a computer, a 64-bit Office 2010 installation is blocked by default. The following section (Applications that block a 64-bit
Office 2010 installation) lists the applications that block a 64-bit Office 2010 installation. The next section (Applications that do not block a 64-bit Office 2010
installation) lists exceptions; that is, applications that do not block the installation. In such cases, installation of 64-bit Office proceeds even if the listed 32-bit applications are installed on the computer.

The following applications block a 64-bit Office 2010 installation:

  • Can't print from IE 8 64 bit version only

I am running windows 7, 64 home premium.  I have a HP c4599 all in one printer.  I installed all the latest drivers/software from the HP site.
I have no problems printing from any application such as word, excel, opera, etc.  I can even print from IE 8, the 32 bit version.  However, if I attempt to print from IE8, the 64 bit version, when I select print and then printer and then hit print nothing happens.  I don't get any error messages or anything.  Nothing gets put in the queue.
Does anyone know what the issue is?  Can you not print from IE 8 64 bit?  It is strange that I have no issues printing from any other program.
    Thanks!

Had the same problem but fixed by using other designated printer as default but printing to the same printer.
Could print a test page from new 8500 wireless printer and docs from Excel, Word etc but nothing from IE8 using the print drivers for Windows 7-64bit....decided to use old Officejet 7680 printer and it worked for all situations including IE8......compared both  printer test pages and discovered the environment for the 8500 which didn't work was windows NT x86 and the environment for the 7680 that worked was windows x64.......interestingly the driver names were the same, the config file was the same and the help file was the same, etc  but the data file was different too. The data file for th 8500 was hpw185g3.gpd and the data file for the 7680 was hp7600t.gpd. In other words, I select a 7680 printer software to print to the 8500 hardware.
Recommend you add a 7600 printer choice (or some other hp model) and compare printer test pages printed from the same printer .....hope it works.

  • Trying to download iTunes 64-bit version on my new Windows 7 PC. Getting the error 'could not locate "%APPDATA%". How do I get past this error? The software doesn't install.

Trying to download iTunes 64-bit version on my new Windows 7 PC. Getting the error 'could not locate "%APPDATA%". How do I get past this error? The software doesn't install. Appreciate if someone in the forum can help.

The backup and restore from the iCloud was a little unnerving since the restore erased all information from the iPod.  The iCloud backup and restore took a long time, but worked.  I was very grateful.
Trying again to backup to iTunes locally proved to be the same challenging problem.  The same backup to corrupt file was the message.  The status bar showing backup seemed to move faster to start, but then slowed to a creep toward the end before the error.
When trying to restore a backup in iTunes, the "Restore" button is grayed out since it is looking for a local copy.  Any restore would need to be from the iCloud which already worked but isn't the final solution.
Your suggestions were good, I am just in the same boat.  Any thoughts about doing the following?
    1) creating a cloud backup
    2) resetting the iPod to factory defaults
    3) removing all traces of iTunes from my computer and
    4) installing iTunes and setting up iPod from scratch.
This is the next thing on my list.
