3750 Maximum HSRP instance limitation?

I worked on a small project recently where we used a pair of 3750-12S (running the IP Services image) as a collapsed distribution/core layer with 2960's and 2950's for the access layer. In total we had 11 access-layer switches each connected to each 3750 over dot1q GigE links, each switch with 4 VLAN's, these VLANs were terminated on the 3750's.
The intention was to use HSRP on each VLAN but we hit this limitation on the 3750 where we could only have a maximum of 32 HSRP instances. When I attempted to add the 33rd HSRP instance an error message was logged stating something like 'platform only supports 32 HSRP groups'. Since we used the same HSRP Group ID (standby 1) I thought we wouldn't hit this issue.
Are there any workarounds or is this just a platform limitation with the 3750? We were running 12.2(25)SED1, I had a look in the 12.2(25)SEE release notes and didn't see anything related to HSRP being added.
Thanks
Andy

The wording in the documentation is a little vague and this is why I assumed this was the same limitation you have with HSRP on the 6500 Sup2/MSFC2. This is where you are limited to 16 unique HSRP groups due to the number of MAC's available. You can get around this by re-using the same HSRP group number on each interface.
The vague bit of documentation was:
If HSRP is enabled, the switch can recognize 32 additional MAC addresses, each associated with a set of VLANs or routing interfaces.
I agree once I looked at some other documentation I saw:
HSRP can be configured on a maximum of 32 VLAN or routing interfaces
I was slightly dissapointed that the 3550 does not have this limitation since the 3750 is supposed to be the logical upgrade path and with its stacking capability it can easily be placed in the distribution layer terminating lots of VLAN's.
The customer does not have the cash to install catalyst 4500's since the difference in price is just too much.
Thanks for the replies.

  • Maximum permitted credit limits in FD32

    Hi Guru's,
What is the use of Total Amount field in Maximum permitted credit limits tab in FD32.
I have searched in SDN as everybody is telling the same thing..
Total Amount: 10,000 INR (Overall Credit Limit in all credit control areas)
    Individual Limit: 4,000 INR
All credit control area means ??
Pls guide me with good example..
    Thanks
    Azeez.Mohd

    Dear Azeez,
You use each Customer Code in particular Sales Area & Company Code.
Now as these two are independent Organizational Elements the credit limits are controlled by Credit Control Area.
Thus each Company Code is assigned to Credit Control Area & also each Sales Area is assigned to Credit Control Areas.
Now it may happen that a single Customer buys from different Company Codes or different Sales Areas. Thus according to accounting principles we cannot let same Customer who has huge outsanding debit in one Company code or Sales area, freely buy from other Company code or Sales Area.
Thus it may happen that one Customer belongs to multiple Credit Control Areas. so you have the option in FD32 tio set Credit Limitt for single Credit Control Area & multiple Credit Control Areas.
E.g. Customer Code 1005 (who belongs to 3 CCA) has total Credit Limit of Rs. 1,00,000 but maximum Rs. 35000 in each CCA. Thus if this Customer hits an outstanding of Rs. 35000 in any CCA his Credit A/c would be blocked for all CCA...
    Hope this is clear...

  • 64 STP Instance limitation

I am fixing to run into my 64 STP instance limitation on my Fiber MAN composed of 5 fiber Gig-E rings. From what I have been reading, it says you can prevent this from happening by setting allowed lists on the trunk ports of switches that have used up their allocation of spanning-tree instances, but from my testing this does not work. Even though I block all the unused vlans on all of my trunk ports, and it only shows those STP instances I have allowed being forwarded or blocked on those trunk ports, I still can't create another spanning-tree instance. From my testing, it seems that I have to turn off STP for those vlans all together, in order for me to create another. This is fine, but just curious if there was another way, considering it seems kind of dirty and will require alot of config updating on all my 30-40 switch's.
One other question.. they make an updated IOS version for the 3508XL that supports more than the 64 instances, maybe even supports MISTP?

I can't do that. I do alot of TLS/802.1Q-in-Q implementations. I need alot of these STP instances to span my entire Gig-E backbone, where by all my switch's in my entire MAN recognize certain layer2 segments.
So, as you can see, I can't break them up with a Layer 3 device, unless I was doing some sort of Layer 3 MPLS to get my customer site-to-site connections to work, which I am not.
Right now, my only option is to block all my manaagment STP instances on all my trunk links, freeing up instances for my 802.1Q-in-Q customers. Once I do this, we will upgrade all of our PE switch's with switchs that support more than 64 instances of STP and support MST or MISTP.
So, back to my original question... Is there any other way to stop the STP instances on my trunk links, besides disabling unused STP instances for all those VLAN's on my switch's, because just blocking them with allow-lists doesn't work?

  • HSRP Group Limitation Problem

    Dear All,
I have 2 3750 switches on which I need to configure HSRP for 26 VLANS.
I have tried configuring one group for vlan 1 - 16 & second group next 16 VLANS. But i still get the error 'platform does not support more than 32 hsrp groups'
What seems to be the problem?
    Thanks in advance.
    Sridhar.

Have you tried to assign unique HSRP group numbers to the 26 different groups you need?
32 HSRP groups is an HW limitation of the 3750 with no workaround available, unlike the 3550 where you could get creative with clumping groups of vlans and re use HSRP group numbers as outlined in:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/switches/ps646/products_qanda_item09186a00801cb707.shtml
The other thing to consider would be version of IOS.

  • Flash player concurrent instance limitations

Our team began stress testing our Flex application. We built
our own stress tester that will fire up instances of Firefox on
different machines which run a stress tester written in Flex. We
were hoping to launch 80 instances per machine, so we could monitor
traffic with about 2000 users, but Firefox crashes after about 35
instances, and blames its failure on the shockwave flash player.
We've also attempted this test with IE and just like Firefox it
crashes at around 35 instances. Is there known issue with the Flash
player that would cause this problem, and is there a version of the
Flash player that could help us resolve this problem? We are
running our stress tests on Windows XP computers, using Firefox,
and the Flash player v. 9. Each request does send cookies back to
the server. In fact if we have 35 instances running then each
request will send down 35 cookies along with some information to
help identify the correct cookie. I don't suspect the cookies are
the problem. Any help would be appreciated. We definitely would
like to be able to launch more instances of stress tester, so we
can get a better picture of where limits are, right now we're just
    coasting through the stress tests.

Exactly what are you attempting to test?
Multiple instance of the Flash Player are going to stress the
client computer and the browser, not the player or the Flex app.

  • Error trying to spawn instances - bpm maximum concurrent instances 999

    Hi,
We have an 'Event Distributor' process which has to process as many contracts as there are in a database. A global create when run would spawn as many instances of the process as the contract records in database.
The problem is when there are above 999 records, the 'global create' is instantiating only till 999. And after that, no more instances are being spawned.
Is there a configuration that can be done anywhere to increase the 'max number of concurrent instances'? Typically we expect upto 3000 contracts as maximum count.
This is an urgent issue. Any quick clue/suggestion/direction would be of great use.
    Thanks in advance,
    Pavan.

Instead of using a Global Creation, you might want to consider using a Global Automatic to create the work item instances. Set the Global Automatic's property to poll based on a time interval.
Inside the Global Automatic's method you'd have logic that reads the rows in your database that read your contract records in a "for" loop. Before getting into the loop, initialize a counter (e.g. "i as Int = 0"). Inside the loop, test the counter to see if it exceeds 995 (or some number less than 999). If it does then either "exit" or "break" out of the loop.
As you are reading the contract records, are you updating the rows in the database to indicate that they have been processed? If this is the case, then when the Global Automatic fires off again it will pick up with the next 995 records of unprocessed contract records. If you are not updating the rows in the database to indicate that they have been processed, there are a couple other techniques (e.g. store the last updated row in another table or using a Server Session variable) that will need to be used to keep track of where to start up again.

  • Promotion Management instances limitations.

    Hi All,
I am migrating some reprots from BO 3.1 to BI 4.1SP3. I have migrated a folder from 3.1 prod to 4.1 UAT using UMT, which is having around 80 reports + 7000 instances.
Now i want to move these reports and instances to production using Promotion management tool ,will promotion management job supports for large no of instances?. is there any limitation on no of instances using Promotion management..
    Thanks in advance,
    Divi.

Promotion management is not an option for this scenario.
It has timeout issues and when promoting large content it goes through many complexities.(Dependency calculations and security calculations)
Best available option for you is LCM CLI.

  • Polling log and BPEL instance limitation

    Hi all,
I have following queries regarding the polling...
    1. For all instances in the polling, log file will be created only one. And instances will be running parallelly, so will the log also be mixed for all logs. I mean first log msg from first instance then second log msg from second instance and then again 3rd msg from first instance. Will it be like that? If yes, then how I can recognize log for a particular instance?
    2. How I can limit the number of instances in the polling?
    3. After polling the data from database, it is marked as logical delete whether my whole process completes successfully or not. What should I do for that? I think logical delete should be marked in case of normal termination of process?
Please reply for all my queries.
    Thanks.

    Hi Vicky,
    - It will created in a single log file. You can identify that if you have some unique id's in your database. You can search that in the log file
    2. How I can limit the number of instances in the polling?
    - Set the Database Rows per Transaction. This will create multiple payload within the single instance. Thus you can limit the number of instances
    3. After polling the data from database, it is marked as logical delete whether my whole process completes successfully or not. What should I do for that? I think logical delete should be marked in case of normal termination of process?
    - If the polling using the DB adapter is success , then it will change the status of the record. It wont wait till the whole process completes. If you want the adapter to wait till whole process completes, then you have to add a dummy reply to the DB adapter. In that case DB adapter will wait till the process completes.
    Thanks,

  • LAP to WLC - Maximum RTT Delay Limits in the real World!

    Hi,
I've seen the design related info that says the maximum RTT between the LAP and its WLC has to be less than 300ms.
I'm working on a solution where a number of the APs will be across WAN links where the RTT are from 250ms to 323ms. Has anyone experience of the types of problems that occur when the 300ms is exceeded, or indeed is there a real world RTT value that we should work to rather than the stated values? Has anyone installed Aps where the RTT is greater than 300ms and is it reliable? I ask as I can find no references to this on Cisco.com or in the CAPWAP RFC and our competiors (in the bid) using non-Cisco products are very clear that this is not a problem for them.
Any guidance much appreciated as usual.
    Thanks. Phil.C

    IMO
Voice issues would be the biggest concern.  Part of the reason we keep a 300ms RTT is because you need to have 150ms RTT for voice to work cleanly.  While the AP may stay connected at 323ms, you will most likely have some voice issues.

  • HSRP on 3750

The Command reference for IOS 12.2.25SEC on the 3750 does not list the "standby" command. Has HSRP been removed from this platform?

    HI dbeattle,
This IOS do support HSRP and standby command:
Here you go with the link
    http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/lan/cat3750/12225se/3750scg/swhsrp.htm
I do agree it is not there in command reference but if you check the configuration guide you will find this config so don't worry go ahead and configure your 3750 with HSRP on the code (12.225SE).
    Best of LUCK

  • Maximum attachment size for Mail 4.3 and can it be changed?

    Hi,
We are using Exchange 2010 at work and have found via several Mac users, and which I have verified myself, that Mac Mail appears to impose its own maximum attachment size limits, somewhere around 10MB. If I take the exact same message and send it via my PC running Outlook 2007 the message sends correctly.
We have 4 users who reported the same thing so it isn't isolated to one machine. I have confirmed and re-confirmed that our Hub and Edge transports are configured to allow 100MB e-mails. Mac Mail has other ideas.
Is there a way to change this limitation as I can't seem to find anything, via Google and/or searching these groups?
I don't want to go back to Thunderbird or, worse yet, Entourage......

It appears in this case to be a failure on Apples part to develop an application that support MAPI. Hopefully the forthcoming release of Office 2011 will rectify this situation.
As I said I have gone through our setup of 6 exchange servers, covering all the bases.
    For instance,
    get-mailbox <user> | fl MaxSize
    MaxSendSize : 100 MB (104,857,600 bytes)
    MaxReceiveSize : 100 MB (104,857,600 bytes)
    Get-TransportConfig | fl MaxSize
    MaxReceiveSize : 100 MB (104,857,600 bytes)
    MaxSendSize : 100 MB (104,857,600 bytes)
All receive connectors are configured to 100MB also on our Hub Transports.
Even the fix listed in the links above, related to EWS and changing the IIS settings, which is where the issue seems to be, doesn't seem to work for me. It may be that I have missed something of course so I'll look over those links once more.
Maybe restarting IIS after the changes were made wasn't enough.....
Of course the other fix, since it works perfectly well with Windows machines and Outlook is to do away with our Macs entirely. Boy that would make me happy!!

  • How do I modify the size limitation on images in PSE 12?

I frequently use panorama tools in Photoshop CS6 & CC and PSE 12 to generate large images (several sunsets/sunrises reach as much as 370 MB or more --- PNG or TIF without layers).  It apears that PSE 12 (and previous) have a limit less than a tenth of that.  I also understand that there is a registry fix which would allow for larger images to be displayed.
      A) Is that so?
       B)  What is the patch?
       C)  What are the (unintended) consequences?
I use Win 7 Pro.  One machine is 32 bit; the primary production machine, 64 bit.  Thanks

Everything you need to know about PSE maximum sizes is in http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop-elements/kb/maximum-image-size-limits-photoshop.html.
The registry fix you are thinking of affects the Organizer only. The Editor has an absolute limit of 30,000 x 30,000 pixels. File size itself is not the constraining factor.

  • Max-instances-per-pk attribute

Does anybody know what is "max-instances-per-pk" attribute in
    <entity-deployment> element in orion-ejb-jar.xml file?
    I'm using oc4j version:
    E:\oc4j\j2ee\home>java -jar oc4j.jar -version
Oracle9iAS (9.0.2.0.0) Containers for J2EEand when I deploy my CMP EJB I get this attribute added to my orion-ejb-jar.xml file with value 20!!!!!
And when I try to create (or findByPrimaryKey) many beans with
the same primary key, after 20 my server is hanging and I get timeout exceptions:
    for (int i=0; i<100; i++) mybean.findByPrimaryKey("1");
    when i==20 I get:
com.evermind.server.ejb.TimeoutExpiredException: timeout expired waiting for an instance

How do I set this value to infinity?
Why I can not find any documentation about this?????
    Please help,
    Artur

Artur -- max-instances-per-pk controls the size of the pool of wrapper instances for OC4J. I would just set it to a very large
integer value. It will be documented in the production release of the EJB guide but for now here is a section from
book. Also, the cache will be able to be disabled but that function was not in the pre-release. Lastly, we should be
posting some of the documentation very soon (look for an announcement) so that will help to clarify some things.
The wrapper instance is OC4J-generated wrapper code that provides for the
services requested in the deployment descriptor. Before the bean instance is
invoked, the client retrieves a handle to the wrapper instance. When the client
invokes the bean, the wrapper is associated with a bean instance.
The max-instances-per-pk attribute sets the maximum entity bean
wrapper instances allowed in its pool for a given primary key. An entity beans
wrapper code can be pooled if it is not used by a client.
The default maximum value is 50. Set the maximum wrapper instances as
    follows:
    <entity-deployment ... max-instances-per-pk="20"
    </entity-deployment>
Set the minimum wrapper instances as follows:
    <entity-deployment ... min-instances-per-pk="2"
    </entity-deployment>
    Thanks -- Jeff
