3870 very messed up artifacts

I have a a K9A2 Platinum, 6400 Black Edition, 2 X 2 AData PC6400, MSI 3870 with Zalman VF900 cooler, Seagate 500 gig IDE drive, floppy, Phillips DVD Burner (Sata), I have a Scythe Ninja for CPU Cooler, using Vista Ultimate 64 bit.
I leave the computer on 24/7.  I last used it at lunch time about five hours ago it was fine.  When I arrived home this evening and woke it up.  it had about 20 or 30 thin lines of alternating color on a black background.  I shut it down using the power switch, waited a few seconds and started it up.  It seemed to post just fine I got the initial Vista splash screen and then the same thing.  I am letting it cool it's heels for now, off.
I automatically suspect the Video Card, but it posted.  In my previous experience a bad card artifacts during post too.
Anyone have any Ideas.  I won't touch it for two hours to ensure coolness.

Troubleshooting Memory Errors
Please be aware that not all errors reported by Memtest86 are due to bad memory. The test implicitly tests the CPU, L1 and L2 caches as well as the motherboard. It is impossible for the test to determine what causes the failure to occur. However, most failures will be due to a problem with memory module. When it is not, the only option is to replace parts until the failure is corrected.
Once a memory error has been detected, determining the failing SIMM/DIMM module is not a clear cut procedure. With the large number of motherboard vendors and possible combinations of memory slots it would be difficult if not impossible to assemble complete information about how a particular error would map to a failing memory module. However, there are steps that may be taken to determine the failing module. Here are four techniques that you may wish to use:
1) Removing modules
This is simplest method for isolating a failing modules, but may only be employed when one or more modules can be removed from the system. By selectively removing modules from the system and then running the test you will be able to find the bad modules. Be sure to note exactly which modules are in the system when the test passes and when the test fails.
2) Rotating modules
When none of the modules can be removed then you may wish to rotate modules to find the failing one. This technique can only be used if there are three or more modules in the system. Change the location of two modules at a time. For example put the module from slot 1 into slot 2 and put the module from slot 2 in slot 1. Run the test and if either the failing bit or address changes then you know that the failing module is one of the ones just moved. By using several combinations of module movement you should be able to determine which module is failing.
3) Replacing modules
If you are unable to use either of the previous techniques then you are left to selective replacement of modules to find the failure.
4) Avoiding allocation
The printing mode for BadRAM patterns is intended to construct boot time parameters for a Linux kernel that is compiled with BadRAM support. This work-around makes it possible for Linux to reliably run with defective RAM. For more information on BadRAM support for Linux, sail to http://home.zonnet.nl/vanrein/badram
Sometimes memory errors show up due to component incompatibility. A memory module may work fine in one system and not in another. This is not uncommon and is a source of confusion. In these situations the components are not necessarily bad but have marginal conditions that when combined with other components will cause errors.
There have been numerous reports of errors with only tests 5 and 8 on Athlon systems. Often the memory works in a different system or the vendor insists that it is good. In these cases the memory is not necessarily bad but is not able to operate reliably at Athlon speeds. Sometimes more conservative memory timings on the motherboard will correct these errors. In other cases the only option is to replace the memory with better quality, higher speed memory. Don't buy cheap memory and expect it to work with an Athlon! On occasion test 5/8 errors will occur even with name brand memory and a quality motherboard. These errors are legitimate and should be corrected.
I am often asked about the reliability of errors reported by Mestest86. In the vast majority of cases errors reported by the test are valid. There are some systems that cause Memtest86 to be confused about the size of memory and it will try to test non-existent memory. This will cause a large number of consecutive addresses to be reported as bad and generally there will be many bits in error. If you have a relatively small number of failing addresses and only one or two bits in error you can be certain that the errors are valid. Also intermittent errors are without exception valid. Frequently memory vendors question if Memtest86 supports their particular memory type or a chipset. Memtest86 is designed to work with all memory types and all chipsets. Only support for ECC requires knowledge of the chipset.
All valid memory errors should be corrected. It is possible that a particular error will never show up in normal operation. However, operating with marginal memory is risky and can result in data loss and even disk corruption. Even if there is no overt indication of problems you cannot assume that your system is unaffected. Sometimes intermittent errors can cause problems that do not show up for a long time. You can be sure that Murphy will get you if you know about a memory error and ignore it.
Memtest86 can not diagnose many types of PC failures. For example a faulty CPU that causes Windows to crash will most likely just cause Memtest86 to crash in the same way.

  • Very messed up Quicktime movie

Very new to Flash, this is my first movie. I am using Flash
    Professional 8.
I've created a Flash animation with background music, and I
can export it without problems to pretty much any filetype except
    .mov.
In the Quicktime movie, the audio does not play.
I've tried messing around with the bitrate, checking and
unchecking the box having to do with streaming audio, and checking
and unchecking the "flatten" option. No sound.
When I open the .mov file in RealPlayer, I don't get sound OR
    video.
I've made small test movies and they all have this problem.
However, in this movie only, when I play it in Quicktime, the
interface is messed up as well. The "Close Window" buttons are
missing, and don't show up until I mouse over where they should be.
I'd appreciate any thoughts as to why either of these things
    might be happening.
    Many thanks!

I know I need to render, that is not the issue. The issue is, that the audio did not render correctly in this particular clip, and I can't seem to make it render correctly no matter what setting I choose.
I have FCE 4.0. QuickTime Version 7.6 (472) (the latest version) OS X 10.5.5. I hesitate to update to 10.5.6 since the last update caused many hours of headaches before the issues were solved.
I did notice that there are two updates in Software Update that I have not installed. There is a Prokit Update, recommended by Apple for among other packages FCE. And there is a Final Cut Express Update. But this one says: "This update addresses compatibility issues with AVCHD camcorders, improves stability when using third-party FxPlug plug-ins, and addresses a number of other minor issues." So I am not sure if this update will address this faulty audio render issue.

  • Very messed up service....

    Hello all,
I just had a very.....interesting.....customer service experience that I figured I would share with everybody.
I used to own the OG Droid, and liked it a lot, but it was getting pretty slow and had tons of issues, so I decided to upgrade to the new Droid Bionic. You would think this would be easy, but that was not the case. I signed my contract Feb 25th of last year, FYI.
FIrst off, last week on Thursday (the day the bionic was released), I called the local Verizon store to see if I could upgrade early. I gave all the info he asked for and he put me on hold for a couple minutes. When he came back he basically told me the computers were going very slow, but from what he was reading I could upgrade that day, or wait until 10/25/11 to upgrade for my $50 loyalty discount. So I asked if he could set one aside for me and I would be in to pick it up in 5-10 minutes. He gave me his name and told me to ask for him when I got in.
So I get to the Verizon store and ask for the associate I talked to, and apparently he went on break/lunch which was no problem because some guy walked right up to me and said that my Bionic was waiting for me at the desk. So I walk up and he opens the box to get it all ready to go, and then gets my account pulled up. He looks at the screen for a couple minutes and then walks over to some other guy (assuming the manager) in the corner with his tablet and talks to him for about 10 minutes. He then walks back to me and tells me that I was not able to upgrade until 10/25/11. Well this aggravated me a bit because the guy I spoke to on the phone said I could upgrade, so why would he tell me that if I couldn't? I asked that question to the associate that was helping me and he said their computers were down for a bit (stupid excuse). This should have been a non-issue, but when I signed up I had my brother and me added to a family plan. I work at Lowe's so I get a monthly access discount, and from what I was told the discount line had to be the primary line, so the lady that helped me SAID she had it set up right, but somehow she ad my brother as the primary (possibly made it so he was the one working at Lowe's). Anyways, after a while he tells me to call customer care and see if they could move my contract date up, which I did later that night.....
So I get home from work and call customer care. I explained the situation to the person on the line and after a while he started to get me set up with an order for the Bionic. Well, he then put me on hold for a while, and then came back and told me that their systems went down (again, really?) and he would call me at 7AM to order the phone and accept the new contract agreement. So 7AM comes and he calls right away, has me accept the terms of the new contract, and told me that my Bionic would be overnighted to me, so it would be here Saturday some time.
I wake up Saturday around 9am, a day I have to work 12-7 on. Take a shower and get ready for work. I then notice I had a text. So I pick up my phone and open the message. The message basically said that my order for the bionic I made over the phone had been cancelled (for no reason) and that I need to either call customer care, go to a store, or go online to re-order. Now this is starting to get ridiculous. I decide on my lunch break I would go to the Verizon store and see if I could just get the Bionic there since my account now read "Eligible to upgrade!".
I enter the store and wait for a couple minutes. Finally an associate was able to help me. I explain to him my situation, and he starts trying to fix it. Eventually since they couldn't get anything to work on the computer, they call up customer service. I had to go back to work at the time so the guy who was helping me said he would give me a call if he figured anything out, and if the got the phone working he would deliver it to me at my job (about 2 blocks away) when he was done with work at 5:30. Well that was at 4ish. Around 5:30 I noticed the 3G on my Droid stopped working, so I was assuming they got something figured out. Then I see the associate that helped me walk in the front door with a Verizon bag in hand. He got it working (at this point I was ecstatic). For my troubles the associate gave me my NE2 Loyalty discount early (10/25/11), a free case, and free screen protectors. Now out of any place I have ever been, that associate had about the best customer service skills I have seen, and went above and beyond what I expected him to do to fix the situation.
So I thought that would be the end of this story, since I figured the phone order was completely cancelled, since I got a text and an email saying it was. BUT THEN......I get home later that night with my shiny new phone in hand, check my email and BAM, what did I get. An order confirmation and tracking number from Verizon. The mysterious first order somehow shipped after being cancelled.........
So that was my experience. I'm still waiting for the phone in the mail to show up so either me or somebody at my house can decline the package and have it sent back to Verizon.

The thing was when we switched to a family plan (literally the next day after I bought my droid) the lady that helped me told me I had to be the primary line on the account, and I stated I was to also be the account holder. But from the sounds of it, they listed my brother as the person who worked at Lowe's and made his line the primary. So whoever helped then royally screwed up. When he gave me the reciept I saw that the Bionic only cost me 249.99, when I thought it was 299.99 at the 2yr price. But now that I look at it online they already dropped the Bionic down to that price, so I guess I didn't get the loyalty discount like he said I would....
Also, I work in the IT field, so I know that their systems probably do go down frequently. I guess I was just frustrated that the first guy I talked to on the phone said I could upgrade that day. If his system was down he either read that wrong or lied to me just to get me in the door. THAT is the only part that really frustrated me. Don't tell the customer they can do something if you aren't 100% sure of it. And then after that when I ordered a phone only to have it mysteriously cancelled the day it should have arrived, and then when everybody (including the guy that helped me actually get the phone) believed it was cancelled, I get order confirmation and a tracking number for it......
Either way I went in today and bought the extended battery, case, and standard charging dock. I'm just happy I don't have to deal with my old junk Droid anymore.

  • IPod very messed up

okay, so the other day i went to turn on my iPod and it said the battery was very low, so i went to plug it into the computer to charge, and it got stuck on the "do not disconnect" screen. i attempted to reset the iPod and all it did was flash the apple screen and then the screen went blank. so i just chalked it up to the battery being dead, so i then plugged it into my wall charger, but unfortunately it never started charging. after 2 days it still isnt showing a charge and it wont turn on at all. ive tried resetting it twice since all this happened, and it beeped at me, whirred and then went silent with no more response. i cant do the basics because theres no charge on the ipod. help please!!!

I don't know for fact but, based on what I've seen here on the forums, I believe that your battery is shot. Battery life is directly related to the quantity of full charges and that translates to eighteen months with "typical" use. Apple's price is $59 + $7 S&H. If you're in the U.S., call 800-275-2273.

  • Very messed up sound on itunes.

    Hi all!
I've been dealing with this problem for a few months now, and by saying that I mean that I have not really opened up iTunes unless I want to see if anything has changed with my problem.
Every time I click to play a song, at about 5 seconds into the track it gets scratchy, jumpy, however you want to say it. It sounds like someone is messing with a record player. I've tried to play many different songs, thinking that it was just a certain CD. But no luck.
Also, i've got an iPod mini that is about 2 years old, and i'm just wondering about the contact information to help service iPods. Mine has a crack on the screen, and I would like to get it fixed.
    Thanks for your time.

I installed iTunes 7 a few months back when it first appeared and experienced the same sound problem. In addition, there was a problem accessing my music library and, at the time, the only "fix" I could find in discussion boards involved going through the library song-by-song. Eventually I uninstalled iTunes 7 and went back to 6.05.20, and everything's working fine ever since.
I've been looking around on the boards this morning to see if there are any signs that Apple has fixed iTunes for Windows. Apparently not.
    My advice: stick with 6.05.20.

  • Mac Mail very very messed up

Since I download the last updates for my Mac, my mail program has become almost unusable.
    1. It will not shut down - have to force quit and computer won't shut down until this has been done.
    2.  Nothing appears in my 'sent' folder when I send e-mail - even though recipient says they have been received
    3.  Mail hangs when being sent - on occasion taking up to 5 minutes to send an e-mail.
Please can someone tell me what is going on here.  I have deleted all my e-mail accounts and set them up again, checked and double checked all settings, run repair disk permissions until blue in the face and nothing seems to help.  I am not a 'techy' person and so can't go into the 'inner workings/code' etc to check things, just don't know how.
This is just particular to my Mac, as when sending mail from my iPad or iPhone it goes straight away and I have no problems at all, therefore nothing to do with my router, isp or anything like that.
Some support on this would be great as I am pulling my hair out.
Thanks - from a very upset Mac user

Quit Mail. Force quit if necessary.
Back up all data before proceeding.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar. Paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V, then press return.
A folder window will open. Inside it there should be files with names as follows:
              Envelope Index
              ExternalUpdates.storedata
Move those files to the Desktop, leaving the window open. Other files in the folder may have longer names that begin as above. Move those files, if any, to the Trash.
Relaunch Mail. It should prompt you to re-import your messages. You may get a warning that the index is damaged and that Mail has to quit. ClickOK. Typically, the process takes a few minutes, but it may take hours if you have gigantic mailboxes. In that case, you may be able to speed things up by temporarily adding your home folder to the Privacy list in the Spotlight preference pane. Remove it when Mail has finished importing.
Test. If Mail now works as expected, you can delete the files you moved to the Desktop. Otherwise, continue.
Please follow these directions to delete the Mail "sandbox" folders. In OS X 10.9 there are two sandboxes, while in 10.8 there is only one. If you're running a version older than 10.8, this comment isn't applicable.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
              Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A Finder window should open with a folder named "com.apple.mail" selected. If it does, move the selected folder—not just its contents—to the Desktop. Leave the Finder window open for now.
Log out and log back in. Launch Mail and test. If the problem is resolved, you may have to recreate some of your Mail settings. You can then delete the folder you moved and close the Finder window.
This action will delete any custom Mail stationery that you have created. If you want to preserve it, ask for instructions.
If you still have the problem, quit Mail again and put the folder back where it was, overwriting the one that may have been created in its place. Repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.MailServiceAgent
Caution: If you change any of the contents of the sandbox, but leave the folder itself in place, Mail may crash or not launch at all. Deleting the whole sandbox will cause it to be rebuilt automatically.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

  • My ipod is very messed up i cant touch it or anything i thought it was just on lock but it isnt :( PLEASE help me

my ipod will move a little bit but not where i want it too......ive tried everything but it wont do anything like i cant even touch the screen and i didnt do anything to it !!!i was just playing a game and all of a sudden it froze and all i could do was touch my home screen button ...please help mee im very upset

First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
Finally, if the Restore doesn't work, let the battery drain completely.  Then recharge for at least an hour and Restore again.

  • My Ipod is very messed up

I regretfully downloaded the new 1.1 software onto my ipod. I let it go on but ir froze for the longest time. I left it over night and in the morring i disconnected. Now my screen is only white, It beeps when i reset it and my comp wont recognize it. Please help me resolve this issue

hmmm...If you are absoluelty sure...remember when the reset looks like it has finished running the screen stays dark and you can faintly see a slider bar filling up which you need to let happen without unplugging the power adaptor.
I can only see two options:
    1. Try running the install from the original CD to get 1.0 ack on or call Apple for support.

  • My very messed up ipod nano

I've had my Ipod nano for about a month, I havent used it that mcuh, havent dropped it, gotten it wet, or anything like that. Since a couple days ago it's had two problems:
When I pick a song other than the Sk8er boi live acoustic EP, it just scrolls through the songs until it gets to it (sk8erboi). the only way I can get it to stop scrolling is by getting out of "Songs" or by putting it on pause, and even then I can only go through the rating, the picture, etc...
The second thing is that at least one of the songs I bought off i-tunes that have the pic of the cd has the picture that goes with the Avril Lavigne live acoustic EP (most of the songs I got off i-tunes are from that cd) instead of it's regular one.
I was wondering if there is a way I can fix it that deosn't involve taking it apart, or should I just get it exchanged?
    i-pod nano

i would try restoring the ipod, a while ago my ipod was doing some weird things and i restored it using the ipod updater and it works like new now.

  • My iphone 4s screen is non stop flickering and is very messed up  does anyone know how to fix this?

my iphone has recently started flickering really bad non stop and it will sometimes change colors and then sometimes lock on its own. I didnt drop it in water or anything, i cant use apps or text or really do anything at all. Ive tried rebooting it several times, ive tried turning off the auto brightness, nothing seems to help does anyone have any suggestions?

If your iPod Touch, iPhone, or iPad is Broken
Apple does not fix iDevices. Instead, they exchange yours for a refurbished or new replacement depending upon the age of your device and refurbished inventories. On rare occasions when there are no longer refurbished units for your older model, they may replace it with the next newer model.
ATTN: Beginning July 2013 Apple Stores are now equipped to do screen repairs/replacements in-house on iPhone 5 and 5C. In some cases while you wait. According to Apple this is the beginning of equipping Apple Stores with the resources needed to do most repairs for iPhones, iPads, and iPod Touches that would not require major replacements. Later in the year the services may be extended as Apple Stores become equipped and staffed with the proper repair expertise. So, if you need a screen repaired or a broken screen replaced or have your stuck Home button fixed, call your local Apple Store to see if they are now doing these in-house.

  • DV-avi h.264 causes interlacing artifacts

For days now I've struggled with this problem. The dv-avi to h.264 convertions -always- have the following problem: Sideways motion looks very bad since there are very noticeable interlacing artifacts (i.e. combing effect). (Although if I use de-interlacing during the conversion the effect is different: in sideways motion the combing effect is not present but the vertical lines flicker.)
I have a Sony SD mini-dv camera DCR-HC42E PAL. The footage is in 16:9. I've captured the material using Adobe Premiere Elements 3 (APE). The camera is connected to pc via Fireware. To do the conversion I've tried many programs such as:
    - APE
    - MPEGStreamclip
    - QuickTime Pro
    - Videora
    - Nero
(Perhaps it is worth mentioning that Using APE and Nero I have not succeeded in producing a file that is playable at all in ATV. Maybe I just don't know the correct settings.)
The dv-avi file looks ok in Windows Media player. In QT pro there is already the combing effect even before the conversion.
The QT Pro (window > show movie properties) shows that the size of the dv-avi file is 768 x 576. Windows Media player (> file > properties) shows that the size is 720 x 576. Windows Media player also shows that the aspect ratio is "4:3 actual, 16:9 displayed".
    Í've tried
    - different output resolutions (unscaled, 1024 x 576)
    - different bitrates (1500 kbps, 3500 kbps)
    - with and without de-interlacing
    - field dominance lower and upper
    - multipass, b-frames
    - apple tv presets (QT pro, Videora)
If I just export the dv-avi to standard dvd, the result is good (no interlacing artifacts). But I'd like to use ATV to watch my mini-dv footage.
The media is synced in ATV. The ATV is connected to a Pioneer 436 XDE plasma (HDReady, panel resolution 1024 x 768) via HDMI.
I am beginning to think that either the Sony camera does not produce the right kind of dv-avi or it simply is not possible to have a decent dv-avi pal > h.264 conversion. Any help is greatly appreciated.

The dv-avi file looks ok in Windows Media player. In QT pro there is already the combing effect even before the conversion.
If you select show movie properties from the window menu in QT then select the video track and visual settings then checking/unchecking Single field/Deinterlace should show you an immediate effect, you can also opt to scale your video to 1024 x 576 here, you can then choose to save your changes. You may find the actual conversion to AVC is then better done in streamclip. I too have this interlacing issue when converting homw movies to AVC, being on a mac my workflow is to import and edit in imovie, export to full quality and convert in streamclip (actually I don't export to full quality, imovie creates a reference file as you edit which streacmlip can use to convert - I'm not sure which other programs do this though, so exporting or saving to full quality might be your only option).
    These are my streamclip settings
Are you sure you are suffering from interlacing and not field switching, the effects can seem similar.

  • Macbook pro Retina Photoshop ONLY graphic artifacts

I have a macbook pro Retina Mid 2012 for work.  And every time I use photoshop, and move the cursor around I see very annoying graphical artifacts on the left and top of the screen.  This looks like a driver issue one might expect on a PC.  I can't take a screen shot of it, since it goes away when I try to do that..  of course.  but attached below is a mockup of what it basically looks like.  (I cannot upgrade to maverick due to not workig with software we need at the office)
This ONLY happens in Photoshop.  and has been happeneing ever since the laptop was first purchased.  Has anyone else seen something like this?  Is there a driver update to fix it? etc...

There are so many apps that use the NVIDIA GPU... download gfxCardStatus and install it so that you can get a handle on apps that use the GPU processor (Chrome, any Creative Suite app, etc.).
If the problem only occurs when using the discrete GPU in PS then it's either a hardware fault or a PS fault - you'll know if other apps that use the NVIDIA chip display the same anomalies.

  • Strange Artifacts with Brightness/Contrast Filter

I've applied the brightness/contrast filter to several stills and then on the last 6 frames, I pump the brightness to 100 to create a flash transition. However, on several of these, I'm getting very strange black artifacts after rendering. They appear on the edges of the frame.
They're not there before rendering, so it's not because that's what the image is supposed to look like at 100 brightness.
Has anyone ever experienced this or have any ideas how to fix it?
    Thanks!

Interesting development. I got a different transition from Eureka! plugins that's basically the same as the Buena one except it doesn't crash my system. Rendered it, and lo and behold! Same problem. The same kind of artifacts show up on the edges. The problem with cropping it is that then I just have to re-render and the artifacts come up again.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

  • IDVD won't recognise FCE output movies. Also has bad artifacts.

Recently upgraded to new iMac and Final Cut Express.
Have a problem with making a DVD of my first project in FCE. Of three sequences I've cut and exported to Quicktime, as per instructions, iDVD will recognise only one. That is, only one of the .mov files shows up in the "media" folder in iDVD. So I can bring that into the iDVD project and it plays, but with very noticeable motion artifacts. The other two sequences, (all done on the same day with same settings on camera, HV20), they don't show up in the "media" box, but if I drag them on to the iDVD page they play, but with very bad motion artifacts.
Anyone got any tips on what's happening here and how to work around it?

I am experiencing the same problems but have found a workaround. Although iDVD will not recognize the movie in the media window, you can drag the movie file into the main window and iDVD will accept the file. I have also found that if you use the "export using quicktime conversion" rather than the "export quicktime movie" you get better results (fewer artifacts). I used Photo JPEG settings at 100% and saw great improvement - - it took longer but it was well worth it.
