which export type in 3Ds max 4 can be used in conjunction with java?
i know this is said in one tutorail, but currently adobe isnt compactible with my O/S so i need someone to help.

i agree with OFH Starfire research loader is quite good. unfortunately it doesn't support some surface/texture features (reflection mapping for exemple) that can be implemented in Java3D and the source code is not given.

Limiting Export Types in Export Dialog Box

We'd like to only allow XLS Format for a specific report when displaying a Crystal Report on a WebPage via Visual Studio;
We run Crystal Reports 2008 and also post on Business Objects so the users can access via Infoview.
the only thing I've found is a hack to change the underlying Java code for Crystal that would affect all the reports... and some other thing for Visual Studio that doesn't work as it is for prior versions of Crystal. Please advise how we go about allowing the end-users to have the option of exporting to only one FileType (XLS) for only one specific report.

3D Studio Max 8+ on OSX?

First off, if this is in the wrong place please move it.
I wish to get Autodesks 3D Studio Max 8 or higher running on the OSX. Does anyone here know of a way to accomplish this?
I have tried Crossover Mac (WINE) to do this but the installer prematurely ends with a warning saying it couldn't run the .msi file (to my knowledge).
Parallels Desktop, although it fully emulates Windows onto a virtual machine it doesn't support 3D applications so that is out of the question.
Does anyone here know of another wine or emulation type application that will enable me to run this great application on this fantastic new MacBook Pro?

it is my understanding that VRML is the only format java can read in UNLESS you get a loader from a third party

Hyperion Web Analysis Studio - Excel Export Data PATH TO EXCEL

I have a problem with Hyperion Web Analysis Studio by Export Data (Path to Excel) function on every client (windows Vista - IE 7 - Office 2007)
The problem is when I try to use the Export data to Excel, the Path to the excel program is missing and I have to go manually over the directory and choose the excel.exe to export the report, when I restart the IE I have to do it again...
Hyperion support suggested I try adding the Excel path to my webanalysis.properties file
So I now have:

Even we have the same issue.And changed the path in webanalysis.properties file.And it worked in entire report but in drillthru reports, export to excel 2010 didn't work and prompting to select the path to excel.Does anyone has solution for this??

To load a object created with 3D Studio Max

I am a new Java user. I have to realize an interactive presentation in Java of a three-dimensional object created with 3D Studio Max. I would like to know how I can load this object in my java project.
I should, in fact, allow the customer to modify the color of the object and to rotate it.

Well, my first reccomendation is to look into Java 3D. I don't know anything about it myself, but it's the obvious place to look.

What API can be used to obtain the AssemblyRef token for an Exported Type?

Types that are decorated with the TypeForwardedTo attribute will have an Exported Type record in the metadata. What API's should be used to access the exported type table / tokens?

Look for such software at VersionTracker or MacUpdate. You can also do some Google searching.
There are lots of 3D modeling applications and several CAD applications - shareware or commercial. For example AutoDesk's Maya software is available in a Mac OS X version.
There are a number of CAD applications as well such as VectorWorks.

You can but make sure you upgrade your RAM to 16GB - you can't do that through Apple...
Autodesk is a memory intensive program and the same goes with 3D Studio Max.....
Another suggeston if you must use a 13 inch is to buy the base 13 inch Macbook Pro and upgrade the RAM to 16GB and install a SSD to make it perform fast.
Another option is to get a refurbished 15 Inch Macbook Pro and do the RAM upgrade yourself...Advantage going 15 Inch is because it has it's own discrete graphics adapter rather than the built in Intel video.

How to install Autocad programmes? Like 3d studio max? WINDOWS IN MAC? HOW?

I am planning to buy Macbook Pro with 8GB and i5 processor for architectural purposes to run programmes smoothly like Autocad and 3d Studio max for rendering plus other graphic programmes from Adobe.
1. What should i include in my package of Macbook Pro to install and run these programmes without doubts and problems, not to waste my money? Maybe instead of Mac i should go for proper Microsoft Windows PC like DELL. But i would prefer Mac anyway.
2. I have heard about Bootcamp? I don't know what is it? Is it supplied with Macbook Pro package? Where can i get it from?
I have also read that to run these programmes i should install Windows on Mac, but the thing is i want to run away from any Windows as Im not happy with this system. This is why I am considering Mac system, which does not freeze on first instance. Where do i get windows on mac? In mac shop? No idea what to do.
3. If i succeed installing 3ds max and Autocad and Adobe, do i run them on mac or windows system, when using daily?
4. I am scared to buy Mac as I am not sure if these programmes work correctly.
5. Please give me some instructions what to do after buying Macbook Pro in terms of preapring my computer for rendering and drawing in cad programmes.
6. Which mac system shall i choose?

Number 1 do you need a laptop? 3DS Max likes beefy hardware and especially high end graphics cards like Nividia’s Quadro series. These card are difficult and expensive to get on a laptop.
I run 3DS Max on my MacBook Pro and also on a more beefy Windows machine with Quadro card at home.
When scenes get complex and big the MacBook pro struggles to manipulate and rotate objects on screen, as it does not have the hardware.
If you do get a MacBook Pro don’t forget you will need a 3 button mouse, not the Apple one as you know there are functions you need to do in Max that require you to press more than one mouse button at a time an Apple mouse will not do that.

OK, just wanted to be sure. Lots of people were under the mistaken impression that just because the new Macs run Intel processors that they could then just run Windows apps under Mac OS X.
As to 3D Max performance, I can't speak directly to it since I haven't tested it, but Max's minimum system requirements are fairly modest, so for basic operation and simple models, an iMac Core Duo should be more than adequate. As you get into very complex models, though, 3D apps start to really use up system resources, so an iMac (or any system of comparable specs) may start to bog down. The 3D professionals I know of wouldn't think of creating pro-quality modeling and rendering on anything other than the highest-end horsepower they could get their hands on; rendering, in particular, needs all the power you can give it to complete in a reasonable time.
So it's going to depend on your needs. For learning purposes and simple models, 3D Studio Max on an iMac should be fine. If you intend this for professional work, you probably either want to go with a high-end PC, wait for the Intel-based replacement for the PowerMac G5 (no idea when that will appear), or consider a 3D package (if changing is an option) that works on PowerMac G5s (Maya, Electric Image are two such) and get a quad-core G5.

i downloaded the newer version of c-dilla from discret's website, and i installed it, i dont get the error anymore but while 3ds max is initializing, a window popped out, it said that 3ds max has to shut down, just like the one you see when there's an error in windows and windows xp asks you if you want to send report to microsoft, this message also popped out. so i have to close 3ds max, but if i just ignore it, 3dsmax would start and i could use it but with the presence of the annoying window :(
after that, i also tried the instructions on the link you gave me, with no luck, same thing happened, but atleast i could use 3ds max, i also tried installing the newer version of c-dilla, same thing also...

I'm sure what you are wanting to do is very acheivable.
In the demo folder of j2sdk there is molecular viewer applet.
I have seen in older version of j2sdk demo folder had a 3D model viewer of a battleship and a dinosaur.
You use the mouse to rotate 360 degrees.
The models for the battleship and dinosaurer were of....mmmm can't remember .obj i think
The file format was just a list of vertices and points, that i believe can be created with 3dsmax.
Do good design documentation and you will succeed!!

MAX: Export Configuration not available

I tried to export my MAX configuration by using the Configuration-Export-Wizard (I only know the German name), but the dialog says no appropriate NI-programs were installed.
I'm using LabVIEW 7 and MAX 3.0.1.3005.
What do you suggest to do?
