3G: $15/month plan used as credit towards $30 plan?

Question

If in the middle of the month you use up your 250mb and you switch to the unlimited plan, does the $15 you already paid go towards the $30/month price for the current month or no?
Or if its half-way through the month, will the $30 price be prorated?
If not, does that mean I would be paying $45 for one month? Thanks

Red555 has it right. Maybe an example will make it clear exactly what happens. I've just been through this. Let's say you buy the $15 plan effective May 3, under the impression shared by many of us that you would be able to 'upgrade' (you won't). On May 9, ATT notices you that you're getting low on megabytes, and gives you the option to buy another 250MB for $15 more, or else to buy the unlimited plan for $30 per month.
Let's say you go for the unlimited $30 plan, as you indicated. ATT will stack the plans. You continue with the original $15 plan until you burn through all the megabytes. Let's say that happens on May 12. At that point, you've used up the original 250MB for $15. The $30 unlimited plan comes into effect on that date, and a new monthly schedule is set, so that your new billing cycle for the $30 per month plan is now May 12 - June 11. This will re-up automatically each month until you change it.
Your credit card will show $45 for ATT billing for the month of May.
Incidentally, the plan reads "Unlimited domestic data per month"--I'm trying to get my head wrapped around what happens if you have non-domestic data, and just what is non-domestic data.
