3G Issues on Bell Canada Network

Hi,
I have been without 3g service on my 32GB 3G iPad 2 for the last three days. My 3G data did work beforehand. My Wi-fi connection works fine.
I get no 3G connection using any app but when using Safari, I get an error message of:
Cannont Open Page
Safari cannot open the page because the network connection was lost.
My iPad shows full bars and says Bell 3G in the corner.
I spent a lot of time on the phone with tech support running me through the standard troubleshooting procedures, turning settings on and off, resets, I even did a full restore when I got home.
Thinking it may be a hardware issue, I went to the Apple Store and they gave me a whole new iPad, but after reinserting my SIM, I got the same issue.
I went over to the Bell kiosk in the mall and was there for about an hour doing more troubleshooting including giving me a new SIM card.
I'm thinking the probability of having two faulty iPads is pretty low and am assuming it is totally on Bell's shoulders. Talking to tech support today, they admitted they've had a few similar calls.
Has anyone else experienced the same issues?
I am kinda POd as I had a skin on the back of my original iPad that wasn't coming off in any nice fashion so I had to leave it on the iPad going back to the warehouse esentially putting me out money.
I'm supposedly a "high priority" with Bell and am expecting a callback later today or tomorrow.
I'll be switching to Rogers or Telus if this isn't wrapped up soon, so annoying.

@spitfire411
Here's the confusing part.  You are claiming that you are on a shared data plan and yet your wife's corporate only has a 500Mb data plan.  As I recall from a Bell Canada rep, any shared data plan with a smartphone (iPhone) requires a minimum of a 1Gb data plan.  And in order to achieve something similar to what you thought you are getting, you need a small business account with about 1000 voice mins plus extra $30 gets you a 6Gb data plan and plus $10 additional share plan to share the data plan with your tablet (that was when the 1st iPad came out -- they lowered the restrictions somewhat since then).  I had to upgrade to this plan in order to get sharing and tethering to work properly.  The monthly flex plan you mentioned is I believe an independent plan by itself and should not be tied with your wife's corporate plan.  Perhaps they may have made a mistake and tagged your tablet's plan as a shared data plan with a smartphone, but since it's only a 500Mb data plan, the system probably refused to allow sharing because of its failure to meet the minimum 1Gb data plan for smartphones that's required.  Unless Bell had changed this requirement recently?!?
Bell's Corporate EPP plan is not the same as a small or business plan because some people can get it through say BCAA (then) or Costco or an employee working for a company, so sometimes Bell people confused what's possible in a business plan that is not available on a corporate plan and I suspect this may explain why you lost access after the 1st billing cycle.
To give you an idea, minimal browsing and email and social networking can consume about 1Gb/month with an iPad.  Any minimal Youtube streaming and Shoutcast or Tunein Radio usage on top of what you are doing, you will need a minimum of about 3Gb/month.  Yes, a tablet can suck bandwidth much more than an iPhone which probably explains why Bell wants you to have a minimum 1Gb data plan so if you plan to tether an iPad to an iPhone, you are not going to get any surprises with a 1Gb data plan as opposed to a 500Mb plan.  So unless you have a large data plan (5Gb or higher), you should keep your smartphone and tablet plans separate.
Good luck in your progress with Bell and let us know what you found.

  • Problems with new Bell/Telus Network in Canada

In Canada Bell and Telus turned on a new nation-wide 3G HSPA network a couple of days ago. This, of course, broadened the spectrum of iPhone service providers in the country to a grand total of 4.
However, the new network is, well, new, and that means there are bugs. Some of those bugs might be getting diagnosed as problems with the iPhone itself, as mine was. I'm wondering if anyone else has discovered any issues with their iPhones on the new Bell/Telus network in Canada. Reporting them here might help other users avoid a wild goose chase such as I spent the day on yesterday.
Here's my problem, summed up. I live in Whitehorse, Yukon. My iPhone thinks it's in Edmonton, Alberta. Rather, location services on my iPhone locates the device as being in Edmonton. So when I open the Maps app, it displays my location as Edmonton. In MobileMe's Find my iPhone it's the same story.
In Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars, when I create a new account that includes a calendar, such as MobileMe, the time zone settings default to Edmonton.
And under Settings>General>Date & Time, when I turn on Set Automatically, the iPhone defaults to the time zone that Edmonton is in (which is one hour ahead of Whitehorse).
I spent a few hours on Apple tech support yesterday, where they (not surprisingly) misdiagnosed the problem as being a faulty iPhone. But I have verified the problem is also exists on a second local iPhone, so it's clearly a network issue.
Anyone else having similar, or totally different, problems with the new network in Canada? Share them here!

    Hi,
I got my Telus iPhone on Nov 5...seemed to work fine that day. The next day, I got a message saying I had no data service because I had no data plan:-( When I contacted Telus they said indeed hey were going through growing pains . Tat problem was resolved later that day.
Today, November 8, I am having trouble texting... people are not getting my texts, at least not everyone is. The only one I have received is one from tech suport at elus. I suspect this is also a growing pain. Maybe we just have to wait it out. I am really excited to have an iPone, in any event.

  • No Paid Apps on pre 2 Bell Canada

    Hi,
I received a Palm pre 2 from HP unlocked.  When I activated it, on Bell Canada, I noticed I have no access to paid apps...
I also only have limited free apps.  I can see angry birds on the Featured apps, but If i click on it it says "no Package found"
I also tried using Synergy, but I can't see that package either, this is starting to get annoying.  I chatted with a palm rep for an hour last week but nothing was fixed. An engineer is supposed to call me back, (That was last week)... Still nothing.
In my palm Profile and On my phone I noticed the carrier was showing ROW, not sure if this is an issue.  I have tried everything on this erase, full erase, nothing seems to work.  I even did a full Erase and tried activating it on Rogers... Still nothing.
What sucks even more is most of my co-workers got theirs (They were on rogers, so they didn't get the unlocked one) and they are all working fine. BTW did I mention I actually work for HP and this is my corporate phone ?  Kinda Ironic isn't it...
Anyway any feedback will be greatly appreciated
    Regards
Post relates to: Pre 2 p102una (Unlocked NA)

    Hi,
Not sure if this is true, but my understanding is that the first activation after the Palm Pre comes out of the package has to be with the carrier that the machine was originally on in order to get the App Catalog to work with paid apps.
I have a personal experience with a locked to Rogers Palm Pre 2.  I activated it on Rogers, then unlocked it and activated it on Bell Mobility and I have full access to the app store.
Hope this helps.  Unfortunately, my understanding is that it is the first activation that matters, any subsequent activation after a WebOS doctor for some reason does not change anything.
    Regards,

  • Can I use unlocked Bell Canada Iphone 4s in U.S.A?

I have this unlocked Bell Canada Iphone 4S. I tried to ask Verizon and AT&T and was told by both that it will not work in their system. Can anyone advise which carrier in U.S. can I use for this phone?
    thanks.

I See, but it's still unlocked even I restored it with backup , right?
Sorry, I don't understand your question. I have a verizon phone which is also iPhone 4s which I have been having trouble with lately. So I just took the SIM card from  that phone and put it in this phone. It says " no service " after it did the search. I went to verizon store and was told that verizon system won 't take any phone unless it's specifically designed for verizon.
The SIM you took out of your Verizon 4S is actually a Vodafone SIM for international roaming. It will not enable to use Verizon's network. Verizon gave you the correct information. Only phones sold for use on Verizon's network can be used on Verizon's network. Sorry.

  • SIM problems(bell canada)

Hello , i bought the iphone 3gs 32gig from bell canada about aweek ago for a 3 year contract , and i am problems with them sim card , first trouble it said no sim , so i returned and got a new sim now its saying 3 days later from the new one invalid sim and sim failure ...... how can i fix this ? or is it the os of the iphone?

Hi y'all! I actually registered to the forum just to reply to this thread to 1st: thanks everyone who helped me figure out that the damned Bell SIM card was faulty and 2nd: help anyone who could be in a similar situation. Here's my story (sorry its long but its worth the reading !):
I bought the most destroyed iphone (3G 16gb locked to Rogers) you probably ever seen (silent switch, headphone jack, sleep/awake button were dead and the back housing and glass were cracked) and wanted to rebuilt it and offer it to my girlfriend for christmas. I had to change : the headphone jack flex, the back housing, the battery, the vibrator, the proximity light sensor flex, the silent switch + the internal holder, the digitzer+glass assembly an rebuilt a metal pin for the home button. Once everything was done, I unlocked the phone and tested it with different SIM cards and everything worked flawless, so I gave her the phone for christmas, she went crazy because she would never have thought of receiving and iphone for christmas since I'm a student and I'm broke and I cannot offer her a 600$ phone. On december 26th we went to Bell to get a SIM card, put it on the phone and it worked. But 10 min later we had the whole No Signal -> No Sim thing. We rebooted the phone and it was ok for another 10 min and died again, and this cycle was never ending. The strangest thing was that the signal never died when we were home and the iphone was connected to the wifi, if I turned it off, it died again. This particular fact was making me think that it could not be linked to the SIM card since there is no link between it and the wifi and made me thought this has to do with the unloking of the phone.
I tried everything from the scotch tape behind the sim, soldering the metal pin from the motherboard to the chrome bezel, locking it to the 3G network by editing the csidata file by SSH to unlocking it with every single possible way. I was to the point of going to Bell and buy a new 700$ iphone when I read this tread and decided to try a new SIM. After arguing with the guy for half and hour (he was convinced it was the phone and told me to go to Apple), he finally exchange my SIM card and voilà ! It now works as a charm, after I repaired the digitizer for the 2nd time because I killed it by disassembling the phone too many times.
So the conclusion is this problem IS NOT APPLE/IPHONE/HARDWARE/SOFTWARE RELATED (this means dont bother getting your phone exchanged) it is a problem with BELL SIM CARDS ! If the guy at the Bell store is arguing tell him that you're gonna make a deal with him: you pay the card (5$) and if you come back in 3 days and had no signal loss, he gives you a refund. Do it as many times as required to have a working SIM. This is definitly the SIM card, since different models have the same problem an that even the most destroyed iphone ever seen finally worked with the new SIM (after way too much hours spent on that **** phone).
I hope this helps other in the same situation ! I'm even gonna add a few keywords (including french) so that people searching on google find this thread : Pas de signal, Bell Mobilité, iPhone 3G, Sim Failure, Pas de SIM

  • Firmware Update for my blackberry 8830 world edition with Bell Canada

Hi does anyone know if there is firmware update for the Blackberry 8830 world edition with the carrier being Bell Canada?  I am running version 4.2 and I know there is 4.5 but I am not sure if this applies the my phone with Bell Canada. When I boot up my desktop manager and checks for updates and says that there is no update.  I don't want to update if it is not necessary and not be able to run my blackberry.  If I am able to update where would I go to get the 4.5 update?

You have to repair Desk Manager or unintall and reintall DM, but this time uncheck "Auto update" and anything that refer to "update" the reason why I mention that is because everythime you run DM, it goes online and check for newer version and put this file "vendor.xml" in the Blackberry Common Folder, and with that file in place, it will block the program from installing the newer version from a difference cell company..
From what I see 4.2 is the only version that is up to date for a 8830...but if you have a 8820, you can update to 4.5.

  • HT201328 Unlocking from Bell Canada

The carrier is BELL Canada. They stated that they do not unlock iPhone due to an Apple restriction and that I should contact Apple to get the phone unlocked. Call Apple and they referred me to this article which is not helpful.Any ideas how to proceed?

Apple has nothing to do with the decision to lock or unlock iphones.
Locking/unlocking is 100% the decision of the carrier.
ONLY Bell Canada can unlock your iphone.  Apple can do nothing at all to help.  This is completely up to Bell Canada.

  • Unlocking out of contract Bell-Canada iPhone 4

My iPhone 4 is currently locked to Bell-Canada.. It is now out of contract and I've already cancelled my bell account.. Now I want to unlock it.. But Bell is not offering unlock.. What to do????

    Hello Mahal1990,
I have the same problem with them and I do not intent on paying the penality fees because of this. I am now located in France and Bell doesn't even cover this area.
Why would I pay for a phone that does not work?
Could I have your name and address in case I need to go to court with this?

  • Time Capsule will not connect to internet through Bell (Canada) router

Help! I cannot be connected to my Time Capusle and still use the interenet! I have a 1st generation Time Capsule and the router supplied by Bell Canada is a 2Wire Gateway. When I first purchased the Time Capsule, the same thing was happening. Internet would work when connected to Bell router but not when trying to go through Time Capsule. I called Apple and was able to recieve telephone support which fixed the problem. That was close to 2 year ago and never had a problem until now. Internet works fine when connecting to only Bell router, Time Machine works fine when computer is connected to Time Capsule.
The only problem is I can't use the interent when connected to Time Capsule (like before).  I have tried everything hard wired and wireless. I have tried hard resets.  I went to call Apple again but found out it was going to cost me something like $60.

You must bridge the TC.. is the TC in bridge mode.. ??
What OS is running  on the comptuer?
In v5 utility go to manual setup.. internet connection.. connection sharing.. off bridge mode.
In v6 utility go to DHCP and NAT page.. select router mode off bridge mode.
Once in bridge the TC should work.. remember the gen1 TC is now at least 1year past its die date.. it will become less and less reliable as time goes on.. no matter what you do.

  • Bell Canada Palm Pre - Second Class Citizen

I've had my pre for a while now and really enjoy using it. I love the touch screen, I enjoy the multi-tasking abilities and am generally a fan.
Unfortunately I've been made to feel like a second class citizen time and time again from Bell Canada.
I cannot get updates at the same time as my Sprint Brothers and Sisters.
I cannot get an answer as to when this will occur, or why the delay exists on Bell's end.
I cannot purchase applications that I want to use and as such cannot reward publishers and programmers for their hard work, and incent them to continue to create applications for an OS that i think is quite amazing.
In short I feel that Bell mobility has let me down, and in effect let Palm down.
Once my contract is up, i will not renew with Bell.
Hopefully some one else will carry Palm products in Canada and will fully support them.
Post relates to: Pre p100eww (Bell)

Well i can agree with this post up to a certain point. Most of the previous Updates were released at the same time as the ones in the states....however this update has improvements for Sprint.  So bell has to take the update and switch over there programming to benefit from the features that the update will bring for us.  But i do agree that the lack of information given to bell employees about up coming updates is pathetic (Should call support not the bell store).  However this will not stop me from using bell. The update is coming. and we will have to be patient about it.  I am also against the fact that canadian users can't purchase Apps....and that most of the good apps are submitted for US only....what is the point of even putting it up?  U wish palm would hurry up and give us the things they have told us about and stop putting out useless updates that really don;t fix anything.  Yes the space limitations are gone...but even after 1.3.5.  its still slow and laggy and this is Unacceptable.  I should just buy a blackberry!

  • Calling/texting to Bell Canada customer

Hello.  I have a friend from Canada who is a customer of Bell Canada cell service.  If my friend is in the United States, can I call and/or text her with no additional charge to my cell phone bill?  ?
    Thank you.
    Kathy

As long as you are in the US, you can send and recieve texts from Canada at no extra charge.  That means that the texts will count against your usual texting allowance.
If you are in the US, you can RECIEVE calls from international locations at no extra charge.  So your friend can call you from Canada at no cost to you.
The cost of calling Canada will vary depending on the calling plan you have.  Verizon offers Nationwide + Canada plans, as well as International Long Distance packages that can help reduce your costs.  The information on those is here: http://b2b.vzw.com/international/Long_Distance/North_America/Canada.html

  • Bell Canada issues update to 4G LTE

Well after much customer service time with both Blackberry and Bell an update has finally been released!
    2.1.0.1526 has officially been approved.
Go to software updates and check!

Yes, you should be able to get the Xoom updates over Wi-Fi. All of the Xoom OTA updates I have received to date, both before and after I had the LTE upgrade performed, have come over Wi-Fi. As for ICS, I haven't read anything to indicate that either the LTE upgrade or active VZW data service will be a requirement to get it.
It was tough not having my Xoom in hand while it made its roundtrip, but I'm glad I did it. Like you, I feel it's of value to have LTE capability in case I might want it some day.
Apparently some users sent their Xooms in without doing a wipe or encrypting their data, and their units came back intact. Can't say whether or not any of their contents ended up on the net though. With or without a wipe, I suggest making a backup of anything important first. I took the opportunity to "clean house" of all the apps I installed but rarely used, so the wipe was not as painful. The worst of it was losing the progress I made in all of the games.
BTW, I think the window to get the LTE upgrade is closing sometime soon, so if you're going to do it, you should do it soon.

  • E6 Belle dropping network connection

HI, I got my E6 just before Belle came out and upgraded after waiting a month or so for any issues to become apparent.
Every now and then the network connection lines become broken and I am no longer able to access the internet.  I spent an hour on the phone with network provider (T-mobile in UK), switched the sim into my old phone and it worked fine.  Restarted the phone a few times.  I played with the network settings and changing it from 'dual mode' to 3g or to GSM got it back up and running.  The problem happened again several times and I left it on GSM and didn't have any problems for a while, but now it's happening again and more often.
It happens regardless of location and at no apparent specific intervals.  Assistance would be great, I've been loving the phone and planning to have it for a long time, but I use it for work and need to get email!

    Tony-G wrote:
I have been having occasional network dropping problems ... happens on all computers (wired and Wi Fi) that are attached ... recently upgraded to Quantum and added TV and Phone ... Verizon sees no problem, but I do ...
VZ can only  "look" as far as their own equipment, meaning they can see whether you are correctly provisioned, supplied, drawing bandwidth, etc.  They cannot see your end of the equipment assembly, of course.
What it sounds like is that one or more  pieces of gear and equipment are not functioning correctly all of the time.  This is often due to poor or faulty connections in the cables, intermittent faults and gaps, etc.   Therefore the first course of action is to check and reset all cables (yes, it's likely that you've already done this, but just for drill, do it once again!).
Having done that, you should devise a test that allows you to insert one piece of gear into the network at a time.  Start with the router and only a single computer, for example.  Wired is probably best at first to see what happens (yes, these tests take time, but there's no way around it).  If that assembly works consistently, try a wireless connection next.  Record the results.
Next I would add back a single STB (of any type) and see if the TV system is OK.  Finally I would add back the remaining devices one at a time and observe the results.  Somewhere along the way you will encounter the offender, but if you do not and if the gear now functions per specification, your time won't have been wasted.  Good luck.

  • Really frustrating internet issues (N8 Belle)

    Hi guys,
Just got my phone back after more than four months of it being stuck in the repair shop for camera issues. The net result was that they eventually just replaced the entire motherboard and case - the phone I got back wasn't the phone I dropped in. Not that that bothered me - the case was in better nick than my old one, and everything worked - just had some data loss to deal with.
The point, though, is that not only were all my settings lost, but the guys at the shop took the opportunity to install Belle onto the handset as well (which is not yet officially available here in Australia). Since I've had it back (the last 6 or so hours of fiddling with it) I've yet to be able to get any of the additional apps that require internet connectivity to work - Social, Ovi store, Email, the Weather app from Beta Labs - nothing. I know that the internet is working on it, since the main web browser will access the internet. I don't have wi-fi to test it on, so this is all going through 3G (Telstra, if it's relevant).
I honestly can't figure out why it's doing this. Do I have a faulty unit? Or is this some kind of externally imposed 'punishment' for people accessing Belle before it's officially released in Austraia? Or are their legitimate problems with the OS that mean it doesn't yet fully integrate with our carriers? Or am I just doing something stupid and not setting the phone up correctly?
As frustrating as it will be, if it is just a matter of waiting until an official Australian Belle release comes around, I can handle that (I've gone 4 1/2 months without the unit at all, I can wait a couple more without email and facebook apps), but if there is a solution, I'd like to know about it, similarly if it's a faulty unit... well, at that point I'll probably just give up and downgrade to an N9 (I like my big fancy 12mp camera, though ).
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

The networks wouldn't be able to detect your OS, so you can rule that out. It can only be the settings within your phone.
Forgive me but I no longer have a belle device so this is from memory:-
    Try going to settings-Connectivity-Internet Connections-Internet
See what order they are set to access the internet and make sure the correct one is top of the list.
Again, apologies this is from memory, but the required settings should be around there.
If I have helped you, please hit the star at the bottom of my posts - it's appreciated!
Don't forget if your problem is solved to press the "Accept as Solution" button.

  • C6-00 what is the latest update for Bell Canada?

My girlfriend is having a LOT of trouble with her C6-00 here in British Columbia, with Bell Mobility. When I tried to update her phone, it said there's no updates above version 10.xx
However, I see that there is supposed to be an update 20.xx available.
Why is the phone not updating? I've tried doing it thorugh the phone, and using my PC with the nokia OVI software. Both wouldn't update the phone.
    What can I do?

    Welcome to the forum!
Unfortunately this can be an issue with network branded devices where software is amended for the operator whom then loses interest when no longer promoting the phone; if enough users nag Bell it might encourage them to do something about it.
As you say for some regions 20.0.41, 20.0.42 & 20.0.43 are available, although the last mentioned only applies to four German variants.
