4GB File Size Limit in Finder for Windows/Samba Shares?

I am unable to copy a 4.75GB video file from my Mac Pro to a network drive with XFS file system using the Finder. Files under 4GB can be dragged and dropped without problems. The drag and drop method produces an "unexepcted error" (code 0) message.
I went into Terminal and used the cp command to successfully copy the 4.75GB file to the NAS drive, so obviously there's a 4GB file size limit that Finder is opposing?
I was also able to use Quicktime and save a copy of the file to the network drive, so applications have no problem, either.
XFS file system supports terabyte size files, so this shouldn't be a problem on the receiving end, and it's not, as the terminal copy worked.
Why would they do that? Is there a setting I can use to override this? Google searching found some flags to use with the mount command in Linux terminal to work around this, but I'd rather just be able to use the GUI in OS X (10.5.1) - I mean, that's why we like Macs, right?

I have frequently worked with 8 to 10 gigabyte capture files in both OS9 and OS X so any limit does not seem to be in QT or in the Player. 2 GIg limits would perhaps be something left over from pre-OS 9 versions of your software, as there was a general 2 gig limit in those earlier versions of the operating system. I have also seen people refer to 2 gig limits in QT for Windows but never in OS 9 or later MacOS.

  • Virtual PC 4gb file size limit workaround?

    I have VPC7 installed on a G4 eMac - slow, but hey it works! The thing is, i want to be able to deal with files that are about 4.3gb in size, and VPC wont let me do anything with them, it says that files over 4gb cannot be imported into VPC. I have the files on a Mac drive, which the 'pc' can see, but it only shows them as being 300meg or so in size, and programs that use the files will also only see that 300meg and ignore the rest of the file. i have tried changing the Windows Temp directory so it is on the Mac drive but that hasnt helped. I have also installed Macdrive on the PC, but that didnt do any good either...
    Is there a way to get the PC to see the whole file - i thought by formatting the virtual drive as NTFS that would work, but have hit a brick wall with it all so any help would be appreciated!

    Since VPC is not an Apple product, you'll should repost your question on Microsoft's own forums for their Mac Office products, rather than on an Apple forum, as they're obviously geared more toward the issue at hand.

  • TS3276 file size limit

    Is there a file size limit on attachments for mail?

    See, for example,
    Base64
    MIME
    Briefly, any file can be considered a stream of bytes. A byte is 8 bits, so there are 256 possible values for a byte. Email is one of the oldest internet protocols and it was designed for messages in ASCII text only. ASCII characters use 7 bits, so there are 128 possible values. An arbitrary non-text file contains byes that cannot be represented by an ASCII character. Instead the file is divided into 3-byte strings. Each possible combination of 3 bytes is represented by a unique 4-ASCII character string.
    Since every 3 bytes is converted into a 4-byte string, that is a 33% increase. For email, the ASCII-encoded data is formatted into lines of text. The formatting adds additional overhead. I’ve always said the net factor is 35%, but the Wikipedia article cited above says the factor is 37%.
    You can see the encoded form of a file in Mail. Open a message with an attachment and select View > Message > Raw Source. Scroll down and find a line that says
    Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64
    This is followed by many lines of gibberish ASCII text. That is the encoded file, and that is what is actually sent in the message. The receiving program has to decode that and convert it back into a file.

  • FILE and FTP Adapter file size limit

    Hi,
    Oracle SOA Suite ESB related:
    I see that there is a file size limit of 7MB for transferring using File and FTP adapter and that debatching can be used to overcome this issue. Also see that debatching can be done only for strucutred files.
    1) What can be done to transfer unstructured files larger than 7MB from one server to the other using FTP adapter?
    2) For structured files, could someone help me in debatching a file with the following structure.
    000|SEC-US-MF|1234|POPOC|679
    100|PO_226312|1234|7130667
    200|PO_226312|1234|Line_id_1
    300|Line_id_1|1234|Location_ID_1
    400|Location_ID_1|1234|Dist_ID_1
    100|PO_226355|1234|7136890
    200|PO_226355|1234|Line_id_2
    300|Line_id_2|1234|Location_ID_2
    400|Location_ID_2|1234|Dist_ID_2

    400|Location_ID_N|1234|Dist_ID_N
    999|SSS|1234|88|158
    I would need a the complete data in a single file at the destination for each file in the source. If there are as many number of files as the number of batches at the destination, I would need the file output file structure be as follows:
    000|SEC-US-MF|1234|POPOC|679
    100|PO_226312|1234|7130667

    400|Location_ID_1|1234|Dist_ID_1

    Ok Here are the steps
    1. Create an inbound file adapter as you normally would. The schema is opaque, set the polling as required.
    2. Create an outbound file adapter as you normally would, it doesn't really matter what xsd you use as you will modify the wsdl manually.
    3. Create a xsd that will read your file. This would typically be the xsd you would use for the inbound adapter. I call this address-csv.xsd.
    4. Create a xsd that is the desired output. This would typically be the xsd you would use for the outbound adapter. I have called this address-fixed-length.xsd. So I want to map csv to fixed length format.
    5. Create the xslt that will map between the 2 xsd. Do this in JDev, select the BPEL project, right-click -> New -> General -> XSL Map
    6. Edit the outbound file partner link wsdl, the the jca operations as the doc specifies, this is my example.
    <jca:binding  />
            <operation name="MoveWithXlate">
          <jca:operation
              InteractionSpec="oracle.tip.adapter.file.outbound.FileIoInteractionSpec"
              SourcePhysicalDirectory="foo1"
              SourceFileName="bar1"
              TargetPhysicalDirectory="C:\JDevOOW\jdev\FileIoOperationApps\MoveHugeFileWithXlate\out"
              TargetFileName="purchase_fixed.txt"
              SourceSchema="address-csv.xsd"
              SourceSchemaRoot ="Root-Element"
              SourceType="native"
              TargetSchema="address-fixedLength.xsd"
              TargetSchemaRoot ="Root-Element"
              TargetType="native"
              Xsl="addr1Toaddr2.xsl"
              Type="MOVE">
          </jca:operation> 7. Edit the outbound header to look as follows
        <types>
            <schema attributeFormDefault="qualified" elementFormDefault="qualified"
                    targetNamespace="http://xmlns.oracle.com/pcbpel/adapter/file/"
                    xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema"
                    xmlns:FILEAPP="http://xmlns.oracle.com/pcbpel/adapter/file/">
                <element name="OutboundFileHeaderType">
                    <complexType>
                        <sequence>
                            <element name="fileName" type="string"/>
                            <element name="sourceDirectory" type="string"/>
                            <element name="sourceFileName" type="string"/>
                            <element name="targetDirectory" type="string"/>
                            <element name="targetFileName" type="string"/>
                        </sequence>
                    </complexType>
                </element>
            </schema>
        </types>   8. the last trick is to have an assign between the inbound header to the outbound header partner link that copies the headers. You only need to copy the sourceDirectory and SourceGileName
        <assign name="Assign_Headers">
          <copy>
            <from variable="inboundHeader" part="inboundHeader"
                  query="/ns2:InboundFileHeaderType/ns2:fileName"/>
            <to variable="outboundHeader" part="outboundHeader"
                query="/ns2:OutboundFileHeaderType/ns2:sourceFileName"/>
          </copy>
          <copy>
            <from variable="inboundHeader" part="inboundHeader"
                  query="/ns2:InboundFileHeaderType/ns2:directory"/>
            <to variable="outboundHeader" part="outboundHeader"
                query="/ns2:OutboundFileHeaderType/ns2:sourceDirectory"/>
          </copy>
        </assign>you should be good to go. If you just want pass through then you don't need the native format set to opaque, with no XSLT
    cheers
    James

  • Build a tool for controlling a copy file operation base on its file size in any folder of Window Explorer

    Hi all,
    We are developing a tool which will control a copy file operation in any folder of Window Explorer base on file size limit.
    If these copied files are not satisfied the file size condition (its size is larger than a predefined value), the copy/move operation must not be executed.
    My question is that: "Are there any availability support of Windows API/tool for implementing this feature?"
    BR,
    Mr_Le

    Hi Mr_Le,
    Thank you for posting in the MSDN forum.
    Based on your description, I’m afraid that it is not the correct forum for this issue, since this forum is to discuss:
    Visual Studio WPF/SL Designer, Visual Studio Guidance Automation Toolkit, Developer Documentation and Help System, and Visual Studio Editor.
    To help you find the correct development forum for this issue, please tell me the real project type (Winforms or others) and the real development language (C#, VB or others) you want to use.
    If you are not very sure that which kind of project fulfils this requirement, maybe the language development forum would be better for this issue:
    https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/vstudio/en-US/home?category=vslanguages&filter=alltypes&sort=lastpostdesc
    If there's any concern, please feel free to let me know.
    Best Regards,
    Jack

  • Is there a file size limit for images in keynote on a mac?

    Is there a file size limit for images in keynote on a mac?

    If you right click on the file (navigate to it using finder, or if it is in iCloud you should open keynote, File -> Open and you should see a list of your iCloud keynotes) then press command+i, you'll pull up the info tag which will tell you the file size.
    Keynote also has an option to Reduce File Size  (File -> Reduce Files Size) but I do not recommend it at all because it will severely degrade the quality of your pictures.
    It's also possible to reduce an individual image's memory size in your keynote by right clicking it and selecting Reduce Image File Size).  This is more time-consuming but allows you to see if the degraded photo quality is still good enough, and you can always undo it.

    You can't change it, and I suspect few email providers would allow a file that big.  Consider uploading it to a service like Dropbox, then email the link allowing the recipient to download it.

  • Windows samba share shows "zero KB" for file size....

    Upgraded, clean install, to leopard and now I see "Zero KB" for file size on my Windows Home Server samba shares. Before the upgrade all that info was displayed but afterwards that info is gone. The only changed on my network was upgrading to Leopard. My linux samba server still works perfectly with 10.5 but the windows samba shares are not. I can browse, mount and copy files to and from the windows samba shares but the file size info isn't displayed. The file size isn't even displayed when I "Get Info" on a file. Previously using 10.4 all was working perfectly and all info was displayed and or was available if I wanted it. Not sure if it is something to do with how Windows Home Server handles samba or if it is how Leopard handles windows samba shares. No settings were changed on my network from when I was running 10.4. The only change on my home network/hardware has been upgrading to Leopard! No other changes were made to any servers or computers that were previously working perfectly with 10.4. Other than this "Zero KB" issue all has gone quite smoothly.

    I removed the . (and moved the directory to match) but I still have the same issue.

  • Video file size limit in iPhoto??

    I recently used my entire 2 gig memory stick in video mode on my Sony H1 digital camera. Upon connecting the camera to my iMac, iPhoto did launch, but after repeated trys, there was no 25 minute video in my iPhoto gallery. This has always worked before, although always with shorter clips. I am wondering if iPhoto has a file size limit for video clips?
    iMac G5 20 1.8 GHz - 512MB Ram   Mac OS X (10.4.1)

    Hi Forest,
    When iPhoto 5 first came out I really think it was programmed to import the smaller 30 sec video clips that cameras were taking at the time. Since then, digital cameras, at least my Canon S2 can take clips as large as your memory card can hold. The first time I tried to download my images and movie clips with my new camera, iPhoto stalled at the movie clips. I wasn't going to take any chances messing up my iPhoto Library so I started using Image Capture to download all my images and Movie clips. I actually like doing it this way a lot better. My movie clips are downloaded into my Movies folder where I then put them in a dated folder.
    My photos are downloaded into my Pictures folder, where I then put them in a dated folder. I import the dated folder into iPhoto. I also keep all dated folders from photo downloads in the Pictures folder till I get enough Movie folders and Photo folders to fill a DVD. I burn them and then delete them from the hard drive.
    This way I have the photos in iPhoto and I also have just the photos backed up to DVD.
    The Movies I keep on the hard drive in their dated folders until I use all the clips for my iMovie projects for the Year. I then make sure they are all burned to DVD, then I delete those from my hard drive.
    Using Image Capture to download images and video clips:
    Open up Image Capture which is found in the Applications folder.
    When it is opened, go to Image Capture/Preferences
    Under the General button choose
    Camera: When a camera is connected, open Image Capture.
    The next time you connect your camera Image Capture will open.
    In the window that opens you will see an Options button. Click on that button to set your options.
    To find out more about Image Capture (it can do a lot more) Click on Help in the menu bar when Image Capture is open.
    iPhoto: How to Change the "Open Automatically" Preference
    If you find you can't change any of Image Captures preferences or can't access any drop down menus or they are greyed out, check to make sure Image Capture is loose in the Applications folder and not within a sub folder.

  • LabView RT FTP file size limit

    I have created a few very large AVI video clips on my PXIe-8135RT (LabView RT 2014).  When i try to download these from the controller's drive to a host laptop (Windows 7) with FileZilla, the transfer stops at 1GB (The file size is actually 10GB).
    What's going on?  The file appears to be created correctly and I can even use AVI2 Open and AVI2 Get Info to see that the video file contains the frames I stored.  Reading up about LVRT, there is nothing but older information which claim the file size limit is 4GB, yet the file was created at 10GB using the AVI2 VIs.
    Thanks,
    Robert

    As usual, the answer was staring me right in the face.  FileZilla was reporting the size in an odd manner and the file was actually 1GB.  The vi I used was failing.  After fixing it, it failed at 2GB with error -1074395965 (AVI max file size reached).

  • Lite 10g DB File Size Limit

    Hello, everyone !
    I know, that Oracle Lite 5.x.x had a database file size limit = 4M per a db file. There is a statement in the Oracle® Database Lite 10g Release Notes, that db file size limit is 4Gb, but it is "... affected by the operating system. Maximum file size allowed by the operating system". Our company uses Oracle Lite on Windows XP operating system. XP allows file size more than 4Gb. So the question is - can the 10g Lite db file size exceed 4Gb limit ?
    Regards,
    Sergey Malykhin

    I don't know how Oracle Lite behave on PocketPC, 'cause we use it on Win32 platform. But ubder Windows, actually when .odb file reaches the max available size, the Lite database driver reports about I/O error ... after the next write operation (sorry, I just don't remember exact error message number).
    Sorry, I'm not sure what do you mean by "configure the situation" in this case ...

  • File size limit

    Hi All,
    I am just asking this question about the file size which we can upload to BI cubes . Is there any file size limitation for the same.
    I have not experienced any thing like this in past but just want to know incase anthing has been mentioned by SAP any where as I could not find any figure for the same.
    Secondly if there is a DB connect between a source system and SAP BI , is there any size consideration for data transfer .
    I tried to surf around and i have not experienced any thing such in the past .
    Will appreciate your replies

    Considering the new recommended specifications for video podcasts and Apple TV, will this file size limit be increased?

    Have you looked in the data error log to see what kind of errors you are getting. The odds are high that you are trying to load data into calculated memebers (or upper level memebers) resulting in errors. It is most likely the former. <BR><BR>you specify the error file with the <BR><BR>on error write to '/XXX.log'; <BR><BR>statement. Have you looked for this file to find why you are getting errors? Do yourself a favor, load the smaller file and look for the error file to see what kind of an error you are getting. It is possible that you error file is larger than your load file, since multiple errors on a single load item may result in a restatement of the entire load line for each error.<BR><BR>This is a starting point for your exploration into the problem. <BR><BR>DATAERRORLIMIT is set at the config file, default at 1000, max at 65000.<BR><BR>NOMSGLOGGINGONDATAERRORLIMIT if set to true, just stops logging and continues the load when the data error limit is reached. If you have some upper level memebers, you could put them in skip loading condition. <BR><BR>let us know what works for you.
