4k Monitor w/ MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Mid 2014)

I am looking to purchase a 4k monitor. I am attempting to determine if I can get full resolution 4k res at the 60mhz level. From what I read, I can only get 30mhz via an HDMI connection on the laptop. However, this report varies all from different sources.
Ironically, I just bought this MacBook Pro 13in in January 2015 and now the new MacBook Pro 13in just came out w native 4k res support.
My setup:
MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Mid 2014)
3 GHz Intel Core i7
16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Intel Iris 1536 MB

1- does Apple ever do exchanges for newly released products?  I bought my MacBook in jan they came out with new in mar.
If you purchased the product from Apple, not a third party, you have 14 days from the date of purchase to return it for a refund or exchange.  You are well past that.
2- if and when Apple comes out with a 4k or 5k thunderbolt display, will it be backwards compatible with my MacBook sich that I can't get the resolutions and 60mhz?
I do not have an answer to that and the Terms of Use for these forums discourages from speculating what Apple may or may not do in the future.  Having said that, from a practical business standpoint, backwards compatibility would be a sensible approach.  It has been done so in many areas in the past.
Ciao.

Hi David.  I don't have as modern a Macbook Pro as you, mine is a 2012 model, but perhaps I can help.  I often find that my SD card will not load when I first insert it.  I have to remove it and then put it into the slot again firmly.
You also haven't posted any information about the SD card.  What size is it, do you know how it is formatted, has it worked in that same mac previously, where did it come from, does it currently work in another device (such as your camera)?  This sort of information will help to narrow down the problem.
If you post some more information I'm sure people will try to help you.  In the meantime, if you look at your post again you should see "More Like This" at the bottom of the page and you may find an answer in some of those related posts.
    Hope that helps.

  • Macbook Pro Retina 13 inch Mid 2014 Bad battery.

Hello, 2 months after i got my macbook pro retina, my battery started dropping. For example, at 100%, it says 4 hours remaining, it used to have 8. I tried restarting PRAM, but nothing changed. It started to happen ever since i updated to Yosemite i think.

There's nothing wrong with the battery. Your MBP simply seems to use quite a lot of power. Try to find out what's causing that with Activity Monitor: How to use Activity Monitor - Apple Support

  • MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Mid 2014) fan runs excessively for no reason?

I purchased this new MacBook Pro in late 2014, and have not had any issues until recently. On startup, and when sitting idle, the computers fans speed up rapidly for no apparent reason, and the system temporarily lags up for a few seconds before the fans slow down again. This happens a few times an hour, when in use or even idle, with no applications open, and no ports in use. Activity monitor says that a Kernel_task is running at over 300% CPU when this occurs. I ran a hardware diagnostics test (restart holding 'D') which said I may have an issue with SMC, and after looking at older forums I found that I may need to reset SMC, which I did (following the instructions from apple), with no change to the situation. Does anyone know what the issue may be and how I might be able to fix it?
    Thanks,
    -Michael

  • Replacing Macbook Pro Retina 13-inch Mid 2014 glass

    Dear Apple Community,
Today, I accidentally scratched my not so long ago purchased Macbook's screen. The scratch, although pretty deep, is about an inch long and located on the edge of the screen ( so it's not on the actual display - it's on the black area). The display itself remained undamaged. However, I would like to have it fixed by replacing the glass.
My question is the following - am I likely to get the Genius Bar to fix it without having to pay for replacing the whole screen? I am aware that it's accidental damage and my extended warranty does not cover it. I do not want to attempt replacing the glass myself. Alternatively, should I go to some shops providing such services?
I have no experience in fixing Apple hardware and need advice. Unfortunately, I visited my local Apple Store earlier today and they do not have any appointment slots in the near future. I want to get some ideas, I don't want to be hung up on it just waiting for the appointment for God knows how long. It is quite upsetting.
I would be very grateful to hear some suggestions.
    Thanks.

    MacBook Pro

  • Issue with MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Mid 2014)

I have an issue with my screen. There is an white square that appears from time to time on the screen. It blocks everything out behind it and I need to restart the computer for it to go away. Does anyone know what I can do about this?
On about this Mac it says the following under the tab displays:
    Built-In-Display
    13,3 - inche (2560 x 1600)
    Intel Iris 1536 MB
You can see a screenshot of the square below.

You might try a reinstall of the OSX but I think your best option is an appointment at an Apple store genius bar for a free evaluation.  Bring the picture with you.

  • 4k Monitor with Macbook Pro Retina 15-inch?

    Hey guys,
I recently obtained a Dell UP2414Q Monitor - it's the 4K monitor. I'd like to know if my MacBook Pro Retina 15-inch from Mid 2012 can drive the montor becuase I heard that I can only use the monitor if I have Thunderbolt 2 or something.
    Help?

There have been some reports of users with late 2013 MacBook Pros, with the discrete NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M (with 2GB of VRAM), being able to use 4K monitors at 60MHz: but this doesn't apply to 2012 models, I'm afraid.
    Sorry,

  • Connecting Dell u2715h Monitor to Macbook Pro Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013

I recently purchased the Dell UltraSharp 27 Monitor U2715H to work as a second monitor with my Macbook Pro Retina 15-inch (late 2013).
What connection cables do I need to make this work most effectively?

    Hi,
I bought the same monitor. I will receive it next week, but i read some blogs about the best alternatives for getting the 2560x1440 and my first option will be connecting my macbook pro retina 13' using the thunderbolt (mini-display port) to the mini-display port available in the monitor.
    I'm planning using this cable:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MD862ZM/A/apple-thunderbolt-cable-05-m
A mini-reference about the mini-display port (It was useful for me):
Apple Mini DisplayPort adapters: Frequently asked questions (FAQ) - Apple Support
This is what I'm planning to do. Note that I don't know if it works! I think so, but I don't know. I will tell you if it works next week.
If you have a mini-display port to display port cable it should work too.
    Regards,
    Carlos.

  • Mac os x yosemite 10.10.1 still lags and bugs while using macbook pro retina 13inch i5 mid 2014

i just got macbook pro retina and i upgraded to yosemite 10.10.1 its still have bugs and lags a lot , does anybody feel the same ,
its not smooth at all ..

Try these in order testing your system after each to see if it's back to normal:
    1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
        b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
    4. Reinstall Yosemite: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall OS X from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.
    5. Reinstall Yosemite from Scratch:
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
How to Clean Install OS X Yosemite
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • Macbook Pro Retina/Thunderbolt Display, Mid-2014 speakers buzzing.

I've had my MBPR since September, and had no issues until this year really.  If I attempt to watch a video or listen to audio, whilst on FaceTime - the audio seems to buzz.  I've never had the issue whilst on the macbook alone - only when connected through my thunderbolt display.
    Any similar issues/fixes?

    Hi nicicloud,
It's been a while and I hope you would still notice my reply.
I am having the same issue where Thunderbolt Display does not have HiDPI options in System Preferences.
I am using a 15" MacBook Pro with Retina display.
I tried a few apps, including SwitchResX.
SwitchResX do provide a few HiDPI options, but the one I wanted, 1280x720 HiDPI happen to be not working.
Can you try setting your TBD resolution to 1280x720 with HiDPI?
    Thank you!
Btw, with the 11" MacBook Air, I didn't even need to download any app to enable 1280x720 HiDPI on TBD. A simply terminal command worked
