Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong here? First off, I'm doing direct LDAP rather than the dirsync stuff. I'm getting the following when doing an 'imsimta test -rewrite -debug [email protected]':

  • Unknown or illegal alias

When trying to send an e-mail to my @me.com i get this error: unknown or illegal alias. I never get the mail on my @me.com address. Is it because of _ in the accountname?

I'm getting the same error! I'm quite frustrated that there's no where to actually report this issue.

  • What is "unknown or illegal alias"

Mail to my iMac account comes back stating that it was returned because of an unknown or illegal alias. What do I do to change that? There is no other accounts. I'm the only one, and my computer/software was purchased legitimately.

Obviously, this means you sent mail to a non existing address. Make sure you did not misspell the recipients address.

  • An external HD shows "unknown" as a user under permissions. How do I put myself back as administrator?

My external HD has 2 partitions and is shared via an AP Extreme base station.  I'm having difficulty trashing  files.  Each time it asks me for my system password. Once I enter it the file is handled normally. All attempts to put me as admin in the Get Info window for either partition rejects me as an acceptable name when I try to add me as a user.  How do I change "unknown" user to to me as admin for the HD and all the contained files and folders?

Check the Ignore ownership on this volume box in the volume's Get Info panel.

  • MII 12.1 Unknown Java AS user with permissions of deploy

    hi,
I have to update a PRODUCTION Environment with Support Packages (unfortunately without a ready Quality one as mirror for testing them).
So, I'm trying to install again the same software someone else used for PRODUCTION, in a Quality server.
    on
SO: Microsoft Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard x64 Edition SP2
I installed successfully SAP NetWeaver CE 7.1 EHP1, but after launching JSPM to install SAP MII 12.1, I'm requested to insert login of an
Java AS user with deployment permissions.
In details I undestrood that the path to be followed, after activating Java AS and checking read rights of OS user on JSPM packages folder,
    it should be:
    1- launch the JSPM with OS <SAPSID>adm user;
2- insert Java AS user credentials with deployment permissions when requested (to log in to JSPM Server).
    3- ...
    n- ...
on step 2, even inserting user administrator and master password of NetWeaver installation, I cannot proceed.
Shouldn't it have those rights. How are them called and where can I assign them?
Looking at the logs of JSPM I found something like this:
Info: Connecting to Deploy Controller on host localhost port 50004 with user ce1adm.
Error: com.sap.engine.services.dc.api.ConnectionException: ERROR CODE DPL.DCAPI.1144 NamingException.Cannot get initial context.
Reason: Exception during getInitialContext operation. Cannot establish connection to the remote server.
Info:DC API is trying to connect to 'localhost:50004'
Error: Exception ::SessionImpl::getContext():get ctx. NamingException, cause=Exception during getInitialContext operation. Cannot establish connection to the remote server.
Even if I try to "add" components starting from NetWeaver installation, I'm requested with a Java EE Administrator I cannot identify.
    any ideas of what's happening?
    regards

    I solved the issue.
Simply, if you don't assign to the server an host name, it gets standard "localhost" and during jspm login system is somehow confused.
The problem it was related to a not reachable AS java and not to users rights.
    regards

Did you add a new client type ?
If you added a new client type the providers for that client type should be defined in the
Client Specific Available Providers list. You can get there by clicking on your Domain Name/ expand desktop and then show advanced options.

(We were trying to use "mailx" but we kept getting "savemail panic" error messages saying that postmaster couldn't be found.) Our objective is to get the output of our backups sent to a local account which is a username in messaging server.
We consistently get "user unknown" errors. I've tried Mail, mailx and the sendmail program to get the messages sent. Here is an example of a local delivery case. We get similar results if we send to "[email protected]".

    =====
I am guessing that this problem is related to another issue where I cannot create a user called "root" in the mail server user base. (maybe not, though).
Is there a way to use the local mail programs (that depend on sendmail) to send to a Sun Messaging Server account on that same machine?

Is there a way to use the local mail programs (that depend on sendmail) to send to a Sun Messaging Server account on that same machine? The approach I have taken with this in the past is to add system-specific aliases to the Messaging Server aliases file e.g.
    <snip /opt/SUNWmsgsr/config/aliases>
    [email protected]: [email protected]
    [email protected]: [email protected]
    </snip>
    Then run ./imsimta cnbuild;./imsimta restart

  • Postmaster problem

The member of the Postmaster group, [email protected] gets email when it's sent to [email protected] (an automatically created alternate address).
But mail sent to [email protected] doesn't get sent to me...
This domain's users receive e-mail at [email protected] rather than [email protected], via associateddomain and sunpreferreddomain.
The postmaster's mail attribute was changed to be [email protected] from [email protected] - but either did not work. The base dn however remains "that.the.otter.com."
adding another alternate address (additional to postmast) as [email protected] (with the mail attribute in either state mentioned above) also resulted in:
Address list error -- 5.1.1 unknown or illegal user: [email protected]

    what's postmast for?

From the debug output it appears the following is happening:
22:02:19.49: Checking for [email protected] in the system alias file
22:02:19.49: - system alias file match for [email protected]
    22:02:19.49: Initial pool address: postmast
    22:02:19.49: - postmast
=> Match is being found in the /opt/SUNWmsgsr/config/aliases file for [email protected], this points at 'postmast'
    22:02:19.50: URL determined to be: ldap:///o%3Dthat.the.otter.com%2Co%3Disp?*?sub?(|(mail=[email protected])(mailAlternateaddress=
    [email protected])(mailEquivalentaddress=[email protected]))
22:02:19.50: Search succeeded but 0 entries returned
22:02:19.50: No matching entries were found that were valid
=> A lookup is being performed for postmast@(default domain) i.e. [email protected] which fails
So you need to fix either the aliases file or provision an account with [email protected]
    Regards,
    Shane.

I tried to download icloud for pc windows vista with 2.1.2 and when it was downloading almost finished it said it belonged to an unknown to me user?

You need to explain that, before you finished downloading something said that it belonged to another user ?
What said that, can you post a screenshot?

  • Why are BC objects created in user's schema

Server = Sun Sparc SunOS 5.8, Oracle 8.1.7.4 SID
    Client = Windows 2000, Oracle 9iDS (v9.0.2 w/Jdeveloper v9.0.3)
    Network = 100MB TCP/IP
I have a schema with relatively large (in my mind) tables master = 225,000 records; detail = 1,200,000 records.
I've used Jdeveloper 9i to create a business components (Java based) view of these tables.
When I execute the view (query) and request the last record of the master table, this action takes approximately 1 hr and 40 minutes to accomplish.
The database is in archive mode.
The redo logs (3) on the database were 500 KB files (the default created by the DBCA). I was seeing archive files created on the order of one every 10 seconds. I increased the logfiles to be 200 MB and now appear to be getting archives once every 10 minutes.
I've tracked it down to something taking place in the connected user's tablespace during the query.
I created a separate tablespace (with it's own temporary tablespace) for my test user. If I did not grant unlimited tablespace to this user, the query failed because the user did not have privilege on the tablespace.
When I granted unlimited tablespace (is there no middle ground??), the tablespace grew to 290 MB from 128 KB. After disconnecting from the query (quitting the application) the tablespace remained at 290 MB. Upon restarting the query, the used tablespace initially shrunk back to 650KB and then grew again to 290 MB. The temporary tablespace never changed or seemed to be accessed. Both times the query took about1 hr and 40 minutes
9 objects were created in the users schema, 3 tables, 4 indexes and 2 LOBs.
My question is why these thing s need to be created for tables that are already indexed and why they would not stay populated for quick reuse. If every one of my users create and populate these tables and indexes for each query session, Ill soon run out of disk space, to say nothing about the ridiculously poor performance.
Have I made some basic error in the creation of my business components that cause this condition?

It will spew out a whole lot of diagnostic output. Copy and post that diag and let me have a look at it.Here goes ...... and guess what .... this actually worked, there was no tables created in the user schema and the query only took about 3 or 4 minutes. Something quirky in the JDeveloper / tester way of doing business ???

  • Active Directory users not made member of Local Network group

    Hi all,
I've just done a clean install from 10.6 Server to 10.8.4.
The issue I seem to be having is a mismatch between what Groups in Server.app is reporting as members (who happen to be users or groups from our Active Directory domains) of a Local Network group and what dseditgroup reports as members of the same network.
    The Setup:
In Groups in Server.app under Local Network Group I have created a group call "AccessServer"
    Members in that group are:
         - AD-Domain User Group (so should be all users in the domain)
         - MacOS X "netaccounts" group (again, should capture all users that connect through the network I've used this in the past/10.6 very handy)
         - AD User 1
         - AD User 2
         - AD User 3
The Server is bound to the AD Domain, All-Domains is not selected and a Search Path is added for each Domain needed and set at the top of the search order.
    The Behaviour:
AD User 1 can access AFP and other services as expected.
AD User 2 and 3 cannot.
Another user within AD-Domain User Group or netaccounts can access AFP and other services as expected
Yet other users within AD-Domain User Group or netaccounts cannot
    Furthermore:
If I REMOVE AD User 1 (a working user) *and* the AD Domain Group and netaccounts Group.  I can still login with that account!
    Diagnosis:
I tried checking group membership with dseditgroup, the results match the behaviour, not the setup.
    >dseditgroup -o checkmember -m ADUser1 accessserver
yes ADUser1 is a member of accessserver
    >dseditgroup -o checkmember -m ADUser2 accessserver
no ADUser2 is NOT member of accessserver
    >dseditgroup -o checkmember -m ADDomainUser/netacc accessserver
yes ADDomainUser/netacc is a member of accessserver
    >dseditgroup -o checkmember -m n accessserver
no ADUser2 is NOT member of accessserver
When non-member users try to connect I get a message in the logs of (IP/DNS values anonymized):
2013-06-25 3:04:36.794 PM sshd[5217]: error: PAM: authentication error for illegal user ----- from ----.mala.bc.ca via x.x.
I get the same results even after removing the user from the Groups screen!
    Failed Solutions
    - As we are a large AD I've tried specifying specific Active Direcotry servers that might better be able to find the users in question and authenticate.
    - I've let the system just sit, in hopes delayed replication would solve the problem overnight.
    - I've deleted and recreated the groups.

Upon further investigation we have discovered:
    a) the main behaviour that is causing the problem is best described as AD users that are added to a Local or Network OS X group... either individually or through a Domain group.... are not actually recognized as members of that OS X group even though the GUI or CLI tool have added them and acknowledge them as being in the list.
    b)  This is NOT limited only to MacOS X Server 10.8.  The same behaviour is occuring on a long-running 10.6 server as well.
    c) The problem remains whether we nest AD groups to capture a large bunch of users, or add users individually.  If the user is part of the mysteriously denied set, how they are added to the OD or local group is irrelevant, including if added from the command line.
    d) Which users are allowed and which are not is unclear and appears generally random.  We have found 3 'classes' of users:
1 - those that are successfully becoming members every time.
2 - those that are intermittent members.  Members on one server or another, or in one case even go from being reported as a member (by dseditgroup), to not being a member, to being a member again within the span of only a minute or two.
3 - those that are never successfully admitted as a member.
So the problem is both Apple's and Windows in that:
Apple: Is allowing a group and/or user to be added and implying then membership in the group even though that membership is not being honoured in some way and there is no feedback or communication of that fact aside from generic 'denied' or 'illegal user' errors.
Windows:  Is passing along membership through its groups and users, but not completely, for reasons that are, at this point, a mystery.
Really hoping people have some ideas on this.  This system of nested groups or individual user access is something we have of course being using for many years.  So this is a major setback.
