Postmaster problem

The member of the Postmaster group, [email protected] gets email when it's sent to [email protected] (an automatically created alternate address).
But mail sent to [email protected] doesn't get sent to me...
This domain's users receive e-mail at [email protected] rather than [email protected], via associateddomain and sunpreferreddomain.
The postmaster's mail attribute was changed to be [email protected] from [email protected] - but either did not work. The base dn however remains "that.the.otter.com."
adding another alternate address (additional to postmast) as [email protected] (with the mail attribute in either state mentioned above) also resulted in:
Address list error -- 5.1.1 unknown or illegal user: [email protected]

what's postmast for?

From the debug output it appears the following is happening:
22:02:19.49: Checking for [email protected] in the system alias file
22:02:19.49: - system alias file match for [email protected]
22:02:19.49: Initial pool address: postmast
22:02:19.49: - postmast
=> Match is being found in the /opt/SUNWmsgsr/config/aliases file for [email protected], this points at 'postmast'
22:02:19.50: URL determined to be: ldap:///o%3Dthat.the.otter.com%2Co%3Disp?*?sub?(|(mail=[email protected])(mailAlternateaddress=
[email protected])(mailEquivalentaddress=[email protected]))
22:02:19.50: Search succeeded but 0 entries returned
22:02:19.50: No matching entries were found that were valid
=> A lookup is being performed for postmast@(default domain) i.e. [email protected] which fails
So you need to fix either the aliases file or provision an account with [email protected]

Shane.

  • Mail server bounce problem.

    Since I upgraded to Yosemite my mail server is now bouncing messages.  When a message is sent to my server it returns with the following (tested with gmail).  I've no clue where to check to fix this problem.  From what I can see the postfix configuration file is correct, the dns settings seem correct, and the aliasmaps seem correct.  Any pointers would be most welcome.
    This is the mail system at host org.
    I'm sorry to have to inform you that your message could not

    For further assistance, please send mail to postmaster.
    If you do so, please include this problem report. You can

    It turns out it isn't.  I ended up on the phone with Apple Support about this for a bit today, and as a check she had me put the Server App in the trash, and then move /Library/Server/Mail/Config to  /Library/Server/Mail/Config.bak.  When I copied Server App back over after that, it rebuilt Postfix's configuration and fixed the issue.

  • TS3276 problem with mail delivery

    has anyone else gotten a "problem during delivery processing" message with each outgoing message? it just randomly started happening to me this morning.  it says my message was sent but the reason:  Error in sieve filter: Notify mailto: recipient is not a valid address
    one comes from postmaster@mac and one comes from Internet Mail Delivery....

    My Wife and I both have an Ipad and an iPhone, I use an iMac and my wife a MacBook Pro.
    I have this problem with all my devices.
    My wife has NOT got this problem.
    We both use a [email protected] email acount.
    Just compared the settings:
    For "Incoming server" I have p03-imap.mail.me.com
    My Wife has p02-imap.mail.me.com .... and has not got this problem.
    I have setup a new rule for incoming mails (for the meantime):
    move all incoming emails from [email protected] to trash and delete it.
    Works fine for now,......until APPLE deals with the problem.

  • Brightmail problems

    I have currently installed Brightmail 5.5 to run with my iPlanet 5.2 Messaging server on Solaris 8. I have followed the directions as specified at: http://docs.sun.com/source/816-6829-10/index.html
    I have added the following to option.dat:
    Brightmail_Library=/u01/brightmail/lib/libbmiclient.so.1
    Brightmail_config_file=/u01/brightmail/etc/brightmail.cfg
    LDAP_SPARE_2=mailAntiUBEService
    My first question is do i have the proper client library file of libbmiclient.so.1??? There isnt a libbmiclient.so.
    I also added the following entry in the tcp_local mail channel in imta.cnf:
    sourcebrightmailoptin spam
    However when restarting the imsimta via cnbuild and refresh, I get the following error:
    Unknown group identifier sourcebrightmail s found on channel tcp_local
    Unknown group identifier spam found on channel tcp_local
    Unknown group identifier sourcebrightmail s found on channel tcp_local
    Unknown group identifier spam found on channel tcp_local
    When I try to send through test spam per the brightmail test directions, it gets through no problem. I would greatly appreciate any insight as to what I am missing. Thanks,
    Pete

  • Messaging Server 3: Startup failure due to postmaster error

    Attempting to start up Netscape Messaging Server 3.x fails. From the
    Server Selector, a dialog box shows the following error message:<BR>
    <P>
    "Error:
    An error occurred during startup."
    <P>
    The following error message appears at the command line:<BR>
    <P>
    # /etc/NscpMail start
    19990407000633:Dispatch:Notification:Error encountered in checking for
    Postmaster account. You need to have one single Postmaster account assigned
    with mail or mailAlternateAddress as [email protected] with the
    proper substitution for host and domain. Please verify the possible causes
    of this startup problem with absence of Postmaster or existence of multiple
    Postmasters in your messaging server. This problem may be caused by (among
    other things) a Directory Server being down or still in the process of
    starting up.
    Please wait, retrying...
    Startup Problem:
    A required resource was not available to the Mail Server.
    Netscape Messaging Server Exiting!
    <P>
    However, the Messaging Server log shows no errors.
    Use the following steps to resolve the problem:<BR>
    <P>
    <OL>
    <LI>Check the Directory Server access log for a query that appears
    something as follows:<BR>
    <P>
    [10/Jan/2000:18:27:57 -0800] conn=15 op=1 SRCH base="o=airius.com" scope=2
    filter="(|([email protected])
    ([email protected]))"
    [10/Jan/2000:18:27:57 -0800] conn=15 op=1 RESULT err=0 tag=101 nentries=0
    <P>
    This log entry shows that the Messaging Server failed to find a postmaster
    address (as indicated by
    "nentries=0").
    The postmaster mail address in the example above uses the
    MessageHostName
    in the /etc/netscape.mail.conf
    file,<BR>
    <P>
    MessageHostName=kwikimart.nasd.mcom.com
    <P>
    <LI>In the Administration Server 3.x, go to the "User and Group" interface.
    <P>
    <LI>Add the
    postmaster@<I>MessageHostName</I>
    to the group as an alternate email
    address.
    <P>
    <LI>Verify that startup is successful.<BR>
    <P>
    The Directory Server access log should contain an entry showing that the
    search found one postmaster entry
    (nentries=1).
    For example,<BR>
    <P>
    [10/Jan/2000:17:47:35 -0800] conn=617 op=1 SRCH base="o=airius.com" scope=2
    filter="(&(|([email protected])
    ([email protected]))
    (|(objectclass=mailrecipient)(objectclass=mailgroup)))"
    [10/Jan/2000:17:47:35 -0800] conn=617 op=1 RESULT err=0 tag=101 nentries=1
    <P>
    Also, the Messaging Server log file should contain a successful startup
    message, such as<BR>
    <P>
    20000110174743:Dispatch:Start
    </OL>

    Hello,
    that looks strange for me:
    <i>> sysnr=$$</i>
    Is the system-nr. of the r3-system perhaps 44 and you've accidently pressed the shift-key while typing?
    Regards,
    Norman

  • Server log showing problems with Mail Server

    Ok, so I followed the instructions in that PDF about how to make virtual mail users in 10.5.1 since they are broken. So I did it in the WGM and the Postfix stuff as the document said. Now I get all these errors in the server log and I have no idea how to fix the problem or if what I did was even done right. Here is the error log below:

    I did what you said and I don't see all those weird messages anymore, but we switched over our MX records today to our mail server in hopes that it would all work and now no one can get their mail. I can log into the mail server no problem via IMAP, but to send messages is not working. And those using POP don't seem to work at all. Even to send messages the Server is rejecting saying that my messages isn't addresed right. Which it is. I can't even send something to myself. I'm trying not to be frustrated with this thing. I'm just not sure what to do since we have a whole bunch of people needing mail and it doesn't seem to be working and I'm not a mail server expert. Any help would be appreciated.

  • 10.7 SMTP Mail Logs send email address- Assign Postmaster?

    How do you assign the SMTP mail log email address? I received an email this morning from another System Administrator (who previously administered this server), that he received the following message (I should be receiving these notifications, not him. To add: I was already the "Alert Email Address." Is there another location, where the SA's email address is set?):

    I am having the same problem. I also can't send anything with attachments at all. Mail Just hangs there endlessly. This is a HUGE problem for me right now, and I don't feel like using entourage mail because it is not really reliable either. Does anyone know how to get a direct hold of Mac Telephone Support or engineering? I need to fix this problem like right now. We need to go back one level of code. Mr. Logic... This is my third day since I downloaded this code revision too, so please let me know what you find out, and I will do the same for you. I should have known better than to install this code without reading up on the issues and fixes.

    Since downloading the 10.4.7 update I've experienced
    the mail problem wherein emails can't be sent to the
    smtp server. I've read all the discussions on all
    the various fora, and tried all the fixes (e.g.
    downloading the combo update instead, trashing mail
    preferences, repairing permissions, setting up mail
    again from scratch, looking for the SOCKS proxy,
    resetting the PRAM, etc. etc. etc.) but all to no
    avail.
    Note that in my case the SOCKS proxy checkbox was
    NEVER ticked/checked and so I couldn't uncheck it
    (which was the fix that seems to have worked for most
    people).
    Anyway... last night I thought would try setting the
    SOCKS proxy checkbox myself, so that I could then
    uncheck it. (you never know!)
    However, when doing this I noticed that any changes I
    made to the proxy checkboxes in the Network system
    preference panel ARE NOT SAVED.
    i.e. If I tick one or more of them and Apply the
    changes, then exit the Network Preferences panel, the
    relaunch the Network Preferences panel, they are all
    UNCHECKED again.
    Is this related to my Mail problem? Any clues?
    This is my 3rd day without the ability to send email
    from the Mail client in 10.4.7. Not good.
    Any help/suggestions appreciated.
    Mr Logic.

  • Why cant I use postmaster@ and abuse@ in /etc/postfix/virtual with success?

    I'm trying to configure two entries in /etc/postfix/virtual for postmaster and abuse for ALL virtual domains. On a debian box I have running postfix, I can do this easily with:
    abuse@ recipientShortName
    postmaster@ recipientShortName
    When I do this on my 10.5.7 server, and I email [email protected], I get:
    550 5.1.1 <[email protected]>: Recipient address rejected: User unknown in virtual alias table
    The only way to get it to work is to define it for each virtual domain, like this:
    [email protected] recipientShortName
    [email protected] recipientShortName
    [email protected] recipientShortName
    [email protected] recipientShortName
    It would be a real pain to have to enter an entry for abuse and postmaster at each virtual domain. Is some directive required in main.cf to enable this functionality?

    Windows or Mac... if Windows, are you using the Windows add/remove programs?

  • Amavisd update problem

    Hello all,
    I was updating amavisd using the wonderful instructions over at <http://downloads.topicdesk.com/docs/Updating_amavisd_new_on_OS_X_Server_10_5_Leo pard.pdf>
    I've done this update, and others like it a bunch of times over the years. However, this time I'm having a problem.
    When I type:
    #: /usr/bin/amavisd -V
    I get this error message:
    fetch_modules: error loading required module Compress/Zlib.pm:
      Compress::Raw::Zlib version 2.037 required--this is only version 2.033 at /Library/Perl/Updates/5.10.0/darwin-thread-multi-2level/Compress/Zlib.pm line 11.
      BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at /Library/Perl/Updates/5.10.0/darwin-thread-multi-2level/Compress/Zlib.pm line 11.

    ERROR: MISSING REQUIRED BASIC MODULES:
      Compress::Zlib
    BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at /usr/bin/amavisd line 237.
    So I tried to update that module:
    # perl -MCPAN -e shell
    cpan[1]> install Compress::Zlib
    I get this message:
    CPAN: Storable loaded ok (v2.25)
    Going to read '/Users/kroberts/.cpan/Metadata'
      Database was generated on Sun, 26 Jun 2011 06:27:18 GMT
    CPAN: Module::CoreList loaded ok (v2.51)
    Compress::Zlib is up to date (2.037).
    Looks good right?
    so I run:
    cpan[2]> install Compress::Raw::Zlib
    I get this message:
    [snip]
    lipo: can't open input file: /var/tmp//ccWqTs15.out (No such file or directory)
    make: *** [Zlib.o] Error 2
      PMQS/Compress-Raw-Zlib-2.037.tar.gz
      /usr/bin/make -- NOT OK
    Running make test
      Can't test without successful make
    Running make install
      Make had returned bad status, install seems impossible
    Failed during this command:
    PMQS/Compress-Raw-Zlib-2.037.tar.gz          : make NO
    I've tried to force install but it makes no difference.

    So I downloaded, compiled, and installed a fresh version of Perl. Now I've got new problems.
    bash-3.2# cd Mail-SpamAssassin-3.3.2
    bash-3.2# sudo perl Makefile.PL
    What email address or URL should be used in the suspected-spam report
    text for users who want more information on your filter installation?

    NOTE: settings for "make test" are now controlled using "t/config.dist".
    See that file if you wish to customise what tests are run, and how.

    <LI>What is the exact address smtpd is looking for?
    <P>
    SMTPD will not start unless it finds an LDAP entry for a specific postmaster mail address.
    The address is postmaster@<MESSAGEHOSTNAME>
    <P>
    Messaghostname is the
    FQDN (fully qualified domain name) found in service.smtp.messagehostname.
    <P>
    Messagehostname can be found with configutil:
    <P>
    ./configutil -o service.smtp.messagehostname
    <P>
    If the messagehostname is
    not set, the email address is composed of the hostname (/usr/bin/hostname) +
    service.smtp.domainname).
    <P>
    smtp.domainname can be
    found with configutil:
    <P>
    ./configutil -o service.smtp.domainname
    <P>
    <LI>Why is the "postmaster" a group?
    <P>
    By convention, this is an LDAP group created at installation. Since postmaster
    is a shared role, a postmaster group of one is created upon installation. As a
    group, additonal email members can be added easily.
    Technical Support is not aware of any issues with a postmaster user, but this configuration is not supported.

    Hi Mikhail,
    first of all, if your an official SAP customer, then please open OSS/CSS messages for such cases.
    However, if you've got a Preview installation or similar, then we could proceed as is.
    To solve your issue, we'd recommend a <b>recovery using the latest data backup available</b>.
    To find out the cause of the problem (i.e. to find out what causes the problem with the blob/long), we'd need either:
    1. system access* (pcAnywhere/WTS),
    or even better:
    2. your latest data backup AND we'd need you to put the DB instance into ADMIN mode and make a LOG backup. We'd need that Log backup then too.
    This might get time consuming, so if you prefer a 'quick' around the problem, we suggest to perform the mentioned recovery.
    Kind regards,
    Roland
    *: concerning system access: we can only access official SAP customer systems going over saprouters.

  • Problem for configuring messaging server

    Hi all,
    I'm currently reinstalling my dev environnement. I'm working on Solaris 10 x86.
    I have installed DSEE 6.3.1, and executing comds script.
    I have installed messaging server from Communication Suite 6u2. (I want to update to CommSuite 7 later )
    root@msg1dev# /opt/sun/comms/messaging/bin/imsimta version
    Sun Java(tm) System Messaging Server 7u2-7.02 32bit (built Apr 16 2009)
    libimta.so 7u2-7.02 32bit (built 01:56:27, Apr 16 2009)
    Using /opt/sun/comms/messaging/config/imta.cnf (compiled)
    SunOS msg1dev 5.10 Generic_137112-03 i86pc i386 i86pc
    After executing the configure script (where postmaster address is asked), I want to test my messaging system with the command :
    ./imsimta test -rewrite postmaster. But this return an error :
    root@msg1dev# /opt/sun/comms/messaging/bin/imsimta test -rewrite [email protected]
    Extracted 733 address action list:
    [email protected]
    Address list expansion:
    0 expansion total.
    Expanded address:
    [email protected]
    Submitted address list:
    Address list error -- 5.1.1 unknown or illegal alias: [email protected]
    Submitted notifications list:
    When I try this command with the option -debug, I can see this error :
    Rewrite rules result: [email protected]
    15:45:51.64: Checking reverse URL cache for: [email protected]
    15:45:51.64: Applying reverse URL pattern ldap:///$V?$N?sub?$R to: [email protected]
    15:45:51.64: URL generation failed, status = 0
    I haven't this error on my production environnemnt, so I suppose the problem is here.
    Have I forget something ?
    Thks for your help.

  • Intermittent Emails Undeliverable Problem to Mac Email Addresses

    My mother has a Samsung Galaxy S3 and has been having problems sending emails to my mac email address and my wife's mac email address. Work emails (not Mac) work. I can send and receive emails from / to my mac email address. It doesn't seem to be a problem with the phone's configuration.

    Any suggestions from the more experienced fetchmail-users?

    I assume you updated from 10.4 to 10.5?
    Older versions of fetchmail would check for an SSL certificate in an opportunistic way and still go ahead if there wasn't one. More recent versions will interrupt comunications.
    In other words, since you do not use SSL you must disable it in fetchmail. Add:
    sslproto ''
    to .fetchmailrc

    Alex
