5.1 sound for K92N SLI platinum

I can only get my 2 front speakers to work.   I have tried everything I can think of  so any help would be appreciated. I just reformatted my hard drive and i cannot remember how I got the speakers to work the last time  but I do remember I got the answer from here. whatever it was they worked great I just need to know how to do it again.
                    windows Vista
AMD Phenom  9950 quad core 2.6 GHz
                    4 gigs Ram
MSI K92n SLI platinum  (using it for sound)
                    Realtek  ALC 888  audio
                    Logitech  X-540 speaker system
Have updated all drivers     chosen "speaker fill"  in both the realtek and in  Control panel>sounds     options

Like yours except I have just 3 tabs  Digital Output ,Speakers (speakers being checked) and Microphone (also checked)    also  I have 6 jacks under analog back panel  (i see you have 3)
                                                                                                                                   Blue       Black (Rear Speaker Out))
(Front Speaker Out)   Green     Red   (Center/Subwoofer Speaker Out)
                                                                                                                                   Pink        Gray
Other then that  it is EXACTLY the same as your picture.   I have nothing that looks like what henry posted
EDIT     I have the same boxes checked as you   except I have speaker fill checked on mine.   Also  as i hover my mouse over the Analog jacks they are labled  as i wrote in paranthesis above  the other 3 are  "greyed out"  The 2 jackes under Front panel are not greyed out at all  and show no lablel

  • Is there a new bios coming for P6N SLI Platinum for E8400 ?

         Hi everyone,
( My system specs are in the signature )
I have been thinking to upgrade my cpu to E8400, but after some time passing through the forums, internet and asking some of my friends, I have decided not to. This is because I have seen many people frustrated and trying get their E8xxx's working on their moboard with endless efforts because of the wrong information given in the CPU support list of P6N-SLI Platinum. Yet, I have seen that only a few people have managed to get it work but with risky, manual adjustments.
So here is my question, will there be a new bios for P6N SLI Platinum that will make E8xxx series post without any adjustments for the users that want to stick with their P6N SLI Plat.?

    Please ask here:

  • Need help with drive installation for K9N2 SLI Platinum

    Hi
I am new to the forum and to MSI
This is my 6th computer build and first time using SATA and PCIe
    My hardware includes:
    •   MSI K9N2 SLI Platinum Motherboard
    •   Corsair XMS2 TWIN2X4096-6400C5
    •   GeForce 9800 GT 512MB GDDR3
    •   AMD Phenom X4 9850 Quad Core Processor, Black Edition 2.5GHz
                    4MB Cache 2000MHz [4000 MT/s] FSB
    •   Thermaltake  Ruby Orb Aluminum Core CPU Cooler
    •   UltraX3 850 Watt ATX Modular Power Supply
    •   [1] Western Digital 200MB7200 ATA133
    •   [1] Maxtor 80MB ATA133 Drive  [Not connected yet]
    •   [1] Western Digital 500GB 7200RPM 16MB SATA II HARD DRIVE
    •   [2] Seagate 7200.11 ST3500320AS 500GB SATA Hard Drives With 32 MB Cache
                    [Not  connected]
    •   LG DVD-RW
    •   Toshiba DVD-ROM
    •   AMI Bios
    •   Antec Full Tower case
The board set up fine, but I can’t figure out how to install my drives. The MSI directions are the worse I’ve ever seen, or should I say non-existent. They don’t even describe the bios entries… I am familiar with the bios, but don’t know all the settings for the board. I set the time and date and had to rearrange my drive placement on the board to have my 2 DVD drives show up on the secondary IDE Channel instead of the primary IDE.  The Western Digital 200MB7200 ATA133 is on the primary master IDE. I’m old fashioned so I still use FDISK to erase the old OS and partition the drive… I couldn’t see my SATA drive in FDISK even though I could see it in the bios. Now I want my Western Digital 500GB 7200RPM 16MB SATA II HARD DRIVE to be the system drive and the Western Digital 200MB7200 ATA133 to be a slave drive. My previous boards had raid but I just used them as additional slave drives.
My goals: I want to have redundancy for my personal audio/video and my work. I will use the 2 Seagate 7200.11 ST3500320AS 500GB SATA drives for that.
I also want 2 additional drives not purchased yet for my other data storage needs and for games
    My questions are:
Can I use the SATA drive as the system drive if a drive is connected to the primary IDE?
How do I set up Raid on this board? I actually want to use its capabilities this time.
Does this board present any special problems with dual booting XP sp2 and Vista 64bit.
If I put another set of Corsair XMS2 TWIN2X4096-6400C5 in anticipation of installing Vista 64bit will this cause a problem other than windows XP not seeing the additional memory.
Is there additional documentation for this board somewhere?
Please help…I have been working on this thing for 4 days straight. My last build took 2 hours not including software installation. Hope I stated everything you need to know. Thanks in advance

    Hello!
Advice no. 1 will be not to have everything connected at once. Have the chosen SATA and one of the DVD:s connected and install Windows. (Windows can only boot from bootable devices. It "jumps" all un-bootable.) Once you have a successful boot and happy with it, remove other things from the boot-sequence.
Eh, some of your questions suggest you don't have the full manual, but a multi-lingual one. Check this out, bottom of the list:

  • 4GB ram for P6N SLI Platinum

Can anyone recommend me good quality ram for my P6N SLI Plat. board ? I know some memory is incompatible with it so I need to know which one I can buy that will work and good memory.
    I have Q6600 + 8800GTS 640 and P6N SLI Platinum bios v.1.1.

I've been extremely happy with running Corsair Dominator PC-8500C5D's (rated 1066 but 800 chipped), in both P7N & P6N. If your OS is XP, the 2X1G set in slots 1 & 3 works good. If you have Vista, 2X2G set in slots 1 & 3 would be a good combo as well.

  • Speedfan config for P6N SLI Platinum

Would someone please upload their Speedfan config to the Speedfan website if they have configured SF for the P6N SLI Platinum mobo?
Or at least tell me what temp1, temp2 and temp3 and some of the voltages really are? WOuld love to know the NB and SB voltages as they do not seem to match what I have set in the BIOS. Vcore amtches but that is about it.
Also, I have my ram at 1.8V and VRAM always shows as 2.21V - any thoughts?
    Thanks, Dave

Thanks. I like the concept of the Speedfan control mechanism and it was rated very well by this article - http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/221745-29-core-quad-temperature-guide. The free Everest has lots of stuff turned off so you have to purchase the Pro version and HWMonitor does not have any mechanism to rename the sensors. I also have TAT, CPU-Z and RealTemp but they are some incomplete.

  • PSU support for P6N Sli Platinum

    Hi,
This is my first post. I'm about to buy the P6N Sli Platinum mobo, and wonder if my current PSU would support it. It has the following specs:
Sirtec HPC 420-302 DF (420 Watt)
    + 5volt    40amp    220W
    + 3.3volt    30amp    220W
    + 12volt    18amp    218W
    - 5volt    0.3amp    1.5W
    - 12volt    0.8amp    10W
    + 5volt vsb    2amp    10W
It has a 20-pin ATX connector and additionally a 4-pin connector, I believe this is a +12V CPU-power connector, althought I'am not completely sure it's not an additional connector to connect to modern 24-pin motherboards.
    The mobo-manual says:
"This connector allows you to connect an ATX 24-pin power supply.
You may use the 20-pin ATX power supply as you like. If you’d like
to use the 20-pin ATX power supply, please plug your power supply
along with pin 1 & pin 13 (refer to the image at the right hand).
There is also a foolproof design on pin 11, 12, 23 & 24 to avoid
    wrong installation"
However, it also mentions the ATX12V power connector, which is 8-pin. Can I connect my 4 pin connector here? Anybody with the same motherboard?

Don't bother about the 300Watt but try to think in amperage (especially on the +12V-rail).
    Example:
    CPU: 7-8A
    HDD: 2A (x2=4A)
    Mainboard: 0.5A
    3 fans: 0.5A
    optical drive: 1A
Now if you take these numbers and add them together you will have about 13-14A not including your graphic card.  Even if it would need only 50W (50W/12V~4A) you would already be at the very limit of the +12V-rail.
Even if these numbers above are a little to high and 11-12A seems more realistic (which I wouldn't count on) 6A would be left for your graphic card (72W) and you would still be at the limit of your power supply.
This is just a little example to illustrate the importance of paying attention to the +12V-rail.  Maybe 18A is just enough to keep you system running, but I wouldn't bet on it. And to have the PSU working at its limit all the time is usually not a good idea.  Remember that the maximum power of the +12V-rail will only be 18Ax12V=216W.

  • Question for P6N SLI Platinum User : Does ALC888 support Dolby Digital Encoding?

Hello to all P6N SLI Platinum users here,
I have one question regarding Dolby Digital Encoding support on this motherboard. By default, ALC888 does not support Dolby Digital Encoding. But I am still curious. Can you please check on your motherboard, does it support Dolby Digital encoding or DTS Live Connect output to SPDIF? (You may check it by Realtek HD Audio Manager control panel. If there exist such setting option, it means it does support.)
The reason I ask this is I am thinking to switch from 975X Platinum to this board, I am unable to try this myself here as it requires me to reinstall my OS in order to load to WinXP
    Thanks in advance.

    have a look here:
    http://en.allexperts.com/e/d/do/dolby_digital.htm
according to info there its support Dolby Digital Live

well unfortunately i have a 20 pin power supply but i took the 20pin to 24pin device Doesn't it work correctly?
The 24 pin spec requires the -5v pin to have no connection. If you use a 20 to 24 pin adapter lead the -5v pins are not connected. You can try plugging the 20 pin plug into the 24 pin socket offset to one side. Many report having no problesm doing this. Alternatively you can try adding you own lead to the adapter to connect the -5v pins.

  • Best memory modules for K8N SLI Platinum

Suggestions please, since current modules are not fit for overclocking.
Goes without saying, best bang for money

    This link should help you!
    G. Skill and Corsair make good RAM. Other people also like Crucial, Geil and OCZ. G. Skill are especially good for overclocking.

  • Max memory for P6N SLI Platinum?

I went to the support section and the products section and according to the website this motherboard will support up to 8Gb of memory. I am currently running Windows XP SP2 so I don't think it will be a problem at all to upgrade from 2Gb to 4Gb of main memory. Question is if I go to Vista Home Premium (32-bit OS), will Vista see all 4 Gigs of RAM or will it only see 2?
Thanks in advance for an answer - I just couldn't find out where to look it up myself, so a direct answer or a link would be much appreciated.

Hockeyboy, please read the moan guide for posting guidelines.
You will need a 64-bit OS to utilize RAM more than 4GB.
As of your question, Vista 32-bit will only be using about 3GB even though it sees 4GB.

  • Static Hiss noise in onboard sound MSI K9N2 Sli Platinum

Just got this Mainboard, made sure it booted and updated the bios before installing it into the case, all went well.  Now I have the OS in all drivers, except something listed under other device called co-processor has a yellow exclamation point, tried installing all drivers from utility disc and still there.
But the most annoying thing is the sound, I noticed this hiss/static sound as vista opened.  Removed Vista's drivers which automatically install and installed the realtek drivers and it is still there.
Has anyone else had this problem with the on board sound?  Is there anyway to remedy this?
I hope this is not just a Vista problem.
Can I get some help?  Anyone?

Quote from: Fredrik on 21-September-08, 03:12:27
About the co-processor, it is most likely a driver thing. You have to do a firm manual update, through DeviceManager, and force Winsta to use the driver you suggest.
A bit on the evil side: If that driver wasn't installed successfully...    Always when installing Windows have as little hardware as possible. One builds from the bottom, with Windows too.
Yeah I found out, that it was a conflict between my graphics card driver and the chipset driver.  I had to uninstall my graphics driver and get the latest one available then reinstall them.
No more coprocessor errors in device manager.

  • Voltage settings for K9N SLI Platinum

    Hi There,
i was wondering i have Kingmax 4GB DDR2-800 which is 2x2gb sticks and my motherboard memory voltage s set at 1.9v is that correct or should it be higher or lower?

Are you running 64bit XP? Because 32bit systems don't like 4gb of mem they will accept it, but don't like it. In my system I had 4gb and when installing different programs it would lose the files. The program would exit with out installing. I had to remove 2gb to stablize my system of course if you are running 2 2gb sticks you can't. All of your mem is there and the system will use it, not saying this is what is happening to you. As long as you don't have any problems with the voltage increase and it stablizes the system you should have no problems.

  • Random Lockups K9N2 SLI Platinum

Hey guys, Ive been dealing with a very annoying issue with a random Windows lockup, when I mean lockup its a press the reset button lockup.  At first I thought it was a faulty Hard Drive, I replaced that with a Fresh reload of Windows 7 64 Bit.  This issue has been going on for a few months, even before the Hard Drive going bad..   Some days/weeks I can play games without a problem, the lockups only occur within the first 5 to 10 minutes of playing, If I make it past that I am good to go..   In the last week I ran Memtest86 v4.0 and 3dMark Vantage, I got no errors or lockup's on either test.
Right after I ran the 3dMark Test I checked the temp in the bios here is what I found CPU Temp 111 F and System Temp 84 F, Im sure this is higher when Im gaming
I have been also getting this error in the event viewer on a lockup:
    Component: AMD Northbridge
    Error Source: Machine Check Exception
Error Type: HyperTransport Watchdog Timeout Error
    Processor ID: 0
Here is my PC build, Ive been thinking about getting a new case that vents the heat from the top, I think this case I have is storing a lot of heat, the case itself gets very hot while playing games, I have 4 120mm fans running to. I was orginally running SLI with the 9800GT, I rebooted one day and one of the cards went, I sent both back to PNY and got 2 new ones but only put one back in since the heat was just to bad, I have a spare card now.

Sounds exactly like the problem I was having when I upgraded to an AM3 965 Phenom-II from an AM2 6000+ and 800MHz DDR2 6GB to 1100MHz DDR2 @1066 8GB all at the same time. All I can suggest is to make sure your motherboard chipset drivers are current. Right now for 750a SLI Nforce the current driver from NVidia is SMBUS Driver (v4.74) WHQL, SMU Driver (v1.71) WHQL. That is in the v15.49 download from the NVidia website. Also make sure your video card drivers are also current. v196.21 WHQL is the latest from the NVidia website for windows 7 64 bit for 9 series cards. another thing you could try is updating you BIOS to the latets version for K9N2 Sli Platinum, it is v3.6. In this website at the top you should see a link to down load the FORUM FLASHER tool made by Svet (Hopefully he posts a reply to this as well, he would most likely be able to help you out more with this). There is also an info page containing instructions on how to use it somewhere on this website as well.
Im pretty good for keeping drivers updated, to double check I downloaded the Nvidia tool to check for updated drivers, says everything is up to date.. I havent updated the bios, Ive done it in the past on other machines and Im always a little scared to do it
I downloaded SpeedFan, here are some temps sitting idle, Im not sure what the temps should be, what do you guys think?
    CPU: 163F
    Remote Temp: 234F
    Temp:  166F
    Temp1: 97F
    Temp2: 84F
    Temp3: 205F
    HD0: 100F

There will be a fix for -5v issue with on board sound chip or what?
The reason i am asking is , i have new PSU and it doesn't ave - 5v line and i don't want to buy a new psu.
According to answer i will wait for new sli platinum rev or i will go with another brand like DFI.

I seem to recall that MSI has offered to replace boards like yours with later versions that do not require the -5v.  I suggest you contact tech suppport or the MSI office near you.
