64 bit devfsadm error

Hi,
I?m developing a 64 bit Solaris 9 device driver for a PCI fibre channel board. Add_drv exits with the dreaded error 11, in spite of the fact that the driver attaches successfully, and is recognized by the system. I?ve tried everything listed in this forum, but can?t resolve the issue. The sequence of events:
#add_drv -m"* 0666 root sys" -i'"pci4ddc,e05"' -v fcd
exit status = 0
devfsadm: driver failed to attach: fcd
exit status = 11
Warning: Driver (fc) successfully added to system but failed to attach
Driver (fcd) installed
I?ve tried all variations on the "-i" flag, but the results don?t change.
As the driver is installed, prtconf recognizes the device, indicating the driver attach was successful:
#prtconf -vD
System Configuration: Sun Microsystems sun4u
Memory size: 1280 Megabytes
System Peripherals (Software Nodes):
pci, instance #1 (driver name: pcipsy)
Driver properties:
name='interrupt-priorities' type=int items=6 dev=none
value=0000000e.0000000e.0000000e.0000000e.0000000e.0000000e
Register Specifications:
Bus Type=0x1fe, Address=0x2000, Size=0x2000
Bus Type=0x1fe, Address=0x1800000, Size=0x100
Bus Type=0x1fe, Address=0x0, Size=0xd000
pci4ddc,e05
And all of this information is correct. Modinfo also shows the driver loads. The problem appears to be that devfsadm isn?t getting the right info somehow, as traced by truss:
461: 0.2847 open("/kernel/drv/sparcv9/fcd", O_RDONLY) = 3
461: 0.2850 lseek(3, 0, SEEK_END) = 212440
461: 0.2852 mmap(0x00000000, 212440, PROT_READ, MAP_PRIVATE, 3, 0) = 0xFF200
000
461: 0.2855 munmap(0xFF200000, 212440) = 0
461: 0.2856 close(3) = 0
461: 0.2858 open("/kernel/drv/sparcv9/fcd", O_RDONLY) = 3
461: 0.2861 lseek(3, 0, SEEK_END) = 212440
461: 0.2862 mmap(0x00000000, 212440, PROT_READ, MAP_PRIVATE, 3, 0) = 0xFF200
000
461: 0.2865 munmap(0xFF200000, 212440) = 0
461: 0.2867 close(3) = 0
461: 0.2870 sysconfig(_CONFIG_PAGESIZE) = 8192
461: 0.2873 open("/devices/pseudo/devinfo@0:devinfo", O_RDONLY) = 3
I suspect the problem is that it's trying to open /devices/pseudo, instead of /devices/pci@1f, 2000.
The call to create the minor node is:
ddi_create_minor_node(dip, "fcd", S_IFCHR, instance, "pci4ddc,e05", 0)
I?ve played with various values for "fcd" and "pci4ddc", no noticeable differences. I've tried some of the predefined def's for create_minor_node, like DDI_NT_NET and others, but it doesn't seem to make a difference. This is a character driver, not a network driver. Of course, ddi_create_minor_node returns with no error.
Other notes:
I've tried various location for the 64 bit driver, such as /platform, etc. As long as the driver is in a valid 64 bit directory location, the results are the same.
This is a 64 bit kernel on an Ultra-60:
#isainfo -kv
64-bit sparcv9 kernel modules
Any ideas or insights are appreciated. I suspect I've got something setup or defined wrong. The driver is stable and well behaved, and does not cause any type of error when loading.
Thanks
Ed

Well, this forum is an activity of useful information isn't it :-).
I finally developed a work around for this, but I still don't understand the cause of the problem. Any suggestions to the root cause are appreciated.
As noted above, the failure appears to be related to trying to open /devices/pseudo, instead of /devices/pci1f@2000 (64 bit pci device). This open is called by devfsadm.
If, after executing the add_drv, I manually run devfsadm, as in:
#devfsadm -v -i fcd
devfsadm works properly, and the properly entry is created in /devices/pci@1f,2000. I then can manually create the link between /dev and /devices, and everything works properly.
Possible timing problem with add_drv, devfsadm, and my driver? Not sure why running devfsadm manually after add_drv works, especially when I issue the exact same devfsadm as add_drv. The driver attach completes successfully well before devfsadm is called. This work around is ok for now, but we'd like to understand the problem so we don't encounter any problems in the future.
Anybody have any ideas?
Ed

windows 7 64-bit installation error on brand new ST9750420AS Momentus 3Gb/s 750-GB Hard Drive in HP Envy 15
I installed a brand new ST9750420AS  Momentus 3Gb/s 750-GB Hard Drive in my HP Envy 15 laptop, and I was getting an error in the last installation step of Windows 7, 64-bit, ultimate, indicating that Windows could not support or be installed on the computer hardware.  It turns out that the drivers for the new internal hard drive, need to be installed/loaded during the initial windows install.
the drivers that ended up working are available from intel at:
    RST Driver Files v.10.1, 64-bit
the steps that are requires are:
    1) download the f6flpy-x64.zip file above, and unzip to a usb pen-drive
    2) when installing windows 7, in the configure option of the volumes, even if windows appears to recognize the drive, it is recommended to delete all existing volumes (Advanced options), and then LOAD DRIVER, and BROWSE to the usb pen-drive, while indicating to only list drivers that are compatible with the hardeware.  here is quick list of similar steps with diagrams.
    3) in this case the compatible driver name is "INTEL MOBILE EXPRESS CHIPSET SATA RAID CONTROLLER¨
    4) continue to configure volumes, and installing windows 7,
    5) everything should work fine.

I cannot install latest itunes to my Sony notebook which is running on traditional chinese windows 7 64-bit, the error message is something like unrecognized windows package, can any one help me or has similar experience? Thanks.

iTunes 9.0.x is certainly compatible with Win7 64 bit since I use that exact setup on 3 different PCs. Two suggestions for your installation problems:
1)Download a new copy of the 64 bit installer from Apple then, instead of just running the itunes installer right click on it and try 'run as adminstrator'. In my experience that clears up a world of problems with program installation in Win7 and Vista. This is necessary even if you're already logged in as an administrator.
    2) Try the previous version of iTunes (9.0.3). You can get a copy at http://www.oldapps.com/itunes.php?old_itunes=54 again right click on the file and "run as administrator"
    Good luck, hope this helps.

BUG! Not system locale Filenames support for 32-bit applications error in Windows 8.1 x64.
All Windows x64 (XP,2003,2007,Vista,7,8) have no support for not system locale filenames|foldernames for all 32-bit applications. I think it is BUG!
For example,  it is possible to read files|folders with French or Chinese in English locale windows installed, rename it, but it is not possible open it, edit or delete. (ERRORS: File not found OR Unknown format)
With using 64-bit programs no such problems. How does it works and how can I fix this? Is it problem with encoding in translating kernel instructions for 32-bit apps in x64 Windows OS's? Whether there are
solutions to this problem OR some hacks|fixes?

    Hi,
Have you installed the language package for French or Chinese?
If no, please download the language package and install them.

  • 32-bit Windows Error: 38: Filename too long and NOD32

I had Vist32 and Oracle 10.2.0.1 running with no problems.

32-bit Windows Error: 38: Filename too longThen I have disabled NOD (services and egui exe) and restart PC. Still have a problem with listener.
I'm 100% sure that NOD is the problem because just before installing the NOD all was running in a perfect order!
Any info how to overcome that (without removing NOD, because I'd like to have it on my PC) and have Oracle working...
Just to show that all seems to be OK, here are my configuration files....

Search tjhe metalink gave me no good answer (just some rookie advicess about network files).
    P.S:
I do remember that something similar happend on the job. After installing NOD32 we have to reinstall the Oracle client which was having problems with onames (sometimes it could ping and sometimes not!)...
Please I'm sure that someone else had problems like we. I could reinstall Oracle but I'd like to understand what is going on....
    THX2

Vista 32 is unsupported? I think there is some misunderstanding about that....Ok maybe 10.2.0.3 is fully supported but... 10.2.0.1 is "unpatched" but please do understand ... it was working very nice before installing NOD32. All of it!
Also, please do understand that we are not rookies and 1 year old DBA...
On the job, there is the same problem on Windows XP SP2 client and Oracle 9.2.0.6 and names server. Here all was working smooth and nice until on client NOD32 was installed. From that moment client was sometimes unable to resolve tnsping through names service on "real" Sun Solaris 10 with 9.2.0.6 (patched!!) database. This is "real" enough and fully supported by Oracle....
That all is to obvious that something is wrong on the client side. Please do understand that none of the problems that I found on metalink that was made form user were not resolved.
So I just want to try to understand the cause....Please I know that Vista is not OS for database, but sometimes we have to have something small at home for Oracle fun....and testing some SQL's....
    THX
    P.S:
All can be repaired (at least that helped on the work) to reinstall Oracle client (administrator type) again after NOD32.
Here maybe something can be done again ... bu I'd like to know what is the problem...if possible.

  • Not your average bit rate error

    Hi, all-
I had a DVD project that burned just fine yesterday. It contained seven video clips and two menus for a total of about 13 minutes of video. I had a test DVD up and running, no problem.
I decided to trim things down a bit and eliminate three video files, clip thirty seconds out of another, and turn the second menu into a screen of text information only. Now I consistently get a bit rate error where before I had no problems at all.
Any thoughts? I've been editing using Quicktime Pro and saving as a self-contained file. I've had no problems until now.
I'm using 2 pass VBR, various bit rates but nothing crazy. (I was able to burn the test DVD at the highest bit rates possible, but now nothing works.) Motion estimation is set at best. Total video is around 8 minutes, maybe less.

If you have edited one of your video clips and have re-encoded the clip to MPEG-2. It is best to remove the original clip from the track in the DVDSP project and then add the newly edited version of the clip to the same track. A quick fix for your project might be forcing DVDSP to reparse all your video assets by deleting the PAR folder(s)/files associated with your video assets and then opening the project again (it may take several minutes for the new PAR files to be generated when you first open the project).

For more information on this, take a look at:
iTunes 11.1.4 for Windows: Unable to install or open
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5376
    Check for .dll files
Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes and C:\Program Files\iTunes and look for .dll files.
If you find QTMovie.DLL, or any other .dll files, move them to the desktop.
    Reboot your computer.
Note: Depending on your operating system, you may only have one of the listed paths.

    Hi!
The issue I'm facing it is vaery strange and partially fixed:
1-) If you start the listener via script adalnctl.cmd or via command line "lsnrctl80 start APPS_D11i" it fails always.
2-)If you start the apps listener via services, start --> Administrative tools --> Services. It works
I'm connecting via terminal services, I have read somewhere that this could be an issue!
As well and related with this issue, when I run autoconfig (in terminal services using remote desktop connection) it hangs in step:
adsvalsn.cmd --> this command creates the apps listener
And the autoconfig finish with error:
    adsvalsn.cmd INSTE8_APPLY -1
Due this adpatch is giving me an error

  • Windows Vista 64 bit service error on iCloud

I am running Vista 64 bit and trying to log into iCloud and everytime I do I get this message "You can't sign in because of server error" anyone got any ideas?

Hello, I think I can identify with this error. When I attempt to install or uninstall an update for the JRE, the error message pops up, notifying me that a DLL required for this install could not be run. I have successfully installed the newest JDK on my machine running 64-bit Vista, though.
I had an earlier version of the JRE (11) installed prior to this experience, but I could not find the corresponding folder for that install, whether in the Program Files or Program Files(x86) directory. Therefore I suspected that the uninstall failure could be attributed to Windows not being able to find an uninstall package. However, I am also unable to install a new version of the JRE (14), which is quite irksome as I am trying to develop a desktop application with Java.
If anyone has any solutions, suggestions or workarounds for this issue I would be immensely grateful! I had also tried using System Restore but to no avail.

I never actually tried opening QuickTime directly before now...but I just removed 9.2 so that I could give it a try. After wiping my system clean of all Apple software, I installed a fresh copy of iTunes version 9.0.3.15 once again. I verified that the program opens fine and appears to work normally (I didn't actually attempt to sync). However, when I tried to open QuickTime separately, I received the following error:
    Problem signature:
    Problem Event Name: APPCRASH
    Application Name: QuickTimePlayer.exe
    Application Version: 7.65.17.80

So, to answer your question, it appears the ntdll.dll crash is a pre-existing condition that I didn't discover until now... Any other suggestions? I am using the KLite codec pack full version which has tons of video codecs...any idea if that could be causing some type of conflict with QuickTime?
    Thanks again!
