64bit x86 kernel ddi_dma_mem_alloc got fail

Hi Dear All,
I had met 64bit x86 sol10 kernel ddi_dma_mem_alloc fail when driver load after system boot.
I had spend much time to research, but When I reboot this system, my scsi driver attach ok and have not got ddi_dma_mem_alloc fail.
It is a tricky thing.
This driver work fine at 32bit x86 sol10kernel,
and have not met this issue.
I only share my "bad" experience.

Not conforming to the requirements of the device may
be more critical than just being non-optimum. The
bind may fail. It will do so, for example, if the
address is not aligned correctly. Your code must be
responsible for making sure the memory does conform to
the requirement, anfd your code better be prepared to
deal with the errors that result if they do not. Thanks, Richard. Clean failure I can live with - my worry was that it might silently do something nasty, like DMAing to the wrong bit of memory. I should hope this very unlikely - it ought to be possible to pass any random address to the bind (by accident, perhaps) and get a clean failure if the address is unsuitable.
Note that you are doing something unusual. When
doing something unusual, you are more likely to run
into cases not anticipated by the DDI designers. You
can never really be sure that your code will work
correctly on combinations of platforms and Solaris
versions that you have not tested.Well understood - I've been on all sides of this sort of situation a few times. In my experience, the architects and high-level designers often have a totally generic approach, but the implementors sometimes only think (and test) in terms of how they expect it to be used normally. Unusual things can look like they ought to work, then get caught out by some implementation detail or bug.
Many thanks for the reply. Do you have any thoughts on my other posting about who is reponsible for looking after alignment and address range limitations with DMA? Your opinion would be welcome.

  • Compilation error, no  /opt/SUNWspro/bin/cc on Solaris 10 64bit(x86)

I was trying to compile Apache mod_jk on Solaris 10 64bit platform(x86) and I got the following error. I checked my system and I do not have /opt/SUNWspro/bin/cc. Any suggestions how to solve it?
    root@unknown >./configure --with-apxs=/usr/apache2/bin/apxs
    building connector for "apache-2.0"
    checking for gcc... /opt/SUNWspro/bin/cc
checking for C compiler default output file name... configure: error: C compiler cannot create executables
    See `config.log' for more details.

SUNWspro is sun studio. Its a free download from the sun site. So you could just install that.
Alternatively, Solaris ships with gcc already installed. But apxs is trying to be clever and compile mod_jk with the same compiler that was used to compile the rest of apache.
It would probably work with gcc, but I'm not sure how you would persuade apxs to use gcc instead.

  • There is no 64bit OS kernel(?)

I was trying to boot my Macbook into 64bit OS kernel mode by doing "6" + "4" at startup. I'm running 10.6.1. To verify this was successful, I click the top left Apple, About this Mac then more info. Next I click Software, which gives an overview. 64-bit Kernel and Extensions is no.
I then called Apple to find out why that didn't work. From them, it only works for OS X Server. Otherwise, 10.6 is always a 32bit kernel. However, my dual Intel chips are 64bit and so are some of the apps. Weird. I always thought the kernel had to be 64bit for the apps to use 64bit.
I was originally trying the "6" + "4" boot option to see what would happen to VMware Fusion, since people have complained it doesn't work in 64bit mode...what ever 64bit mode is. I then see replies to those complaints that you have to boot into 32bit mode, which of course isn't an option unless you are on Server. My VMware Fusion works fine.
Is there anyone on a Macbook Aluminum that can't run VMware Fusion or that can do the "6" + "4" thing? Because if so, that would conflict with what Apple is saying.

No, but 64-bit booting isn't enabled for some systems even though they have 64-bit processors. Exactly what and why hasn't been made clear
I think the "why" depends on the particular machine. In the case of my Mac Pro the problem is EFI: it is 32-bit. A 32-bit EFI can not boot a 64-bit kernel. There are some people who are hoping that a firmware update can fix this. Talking to my brother, who is intimately familiar with such arcana as chipsets and computer architectures, I got a much more pessimistic answer. He suspects that the Intel chipset used by EFI simply will not support 64-bit. Interestingly he is running Windows 7 on his same generation Mac Pro as mine in 64-bit without a problem, although he did have a problem getting 64-bit drivers for everything initially. He is currently contemplating doing some major surgery to get a 64-bit Ubuntu Linux install to work as well. Evidently this requires something called "rEFIt" and changes to the boot loader, all of which is far beyond my technical level!
Anyway, I did find a Terminal command to find out if the problem in booting a particular Mac into 64-bit is EFI. Just copy and paste the command into Terminal. Here's what I get:
    NoobiX:~ francine$ ioreg -l -p IODeviceTree | grep firmware-abi
    | | "firmware-abi" = <\"EFI32">
If you have 64-bit EFI then you may be able to boot a 64-bit kernel Snow Leopard, although I gather even this is not absolutely certain, and that some laptops still won't do that thing.

Arghh! I hate the Jive software and the way it does NOT handle code! Ignore the forward slash in the "EFI32" entry.

  • Master Data loading got failed: error "Update mode R is not supported by th

    Hello Experts,
I use to load master data for 0Customer_Attr though daily process chain, it was running successfully.
For last 2 days master data loading for 0Customer_Attr got failed and it gives following error message:
"Update mode R is not supported by the extraction API"
Can anyone tell me what is that error for? how to resolve this issue?
    Regards,
    Nirav

    Hi
Update mode R error will come in the below case
You are running a delta (for master data) which afils due to some error. to resolve that error, you make the load red and try to repeat the load.
This time the load will fail with update mode R.
As repeat delta is not supported.
So, now, the only thing you can do is to reinit the delta(as told in above posts) and then you can proceed. The earlier problem has nothing to do with update mode R.
example your fiorst delta failed with replication issue.
only replicating and repeaing will not solve the update mode R.
you will have to do both replication of the data source and re-int for the update mode R.
One more thing I would like to add is.
If the the delat which failed with error the first time(not update mode R), then
you have to do init with data transfer
if it failed without picking any records,
then do init without data transfer.
    Hope this helps

    Dear All,
I Have collected All data soruces which are related to R3 data sources and Flat File data sources...
After import the transport request it got failed due to Flata file source system does not exist in BI quality system.
But all data sources related to R3 and R3 Source system has been moved which are available in BI Quality sytem also.
why Flat File source and data source are moving.. why i am not sure it was throuing error message called Source System does not exist..
    Thanks,

    Dear Venkat ,
    Go to Quality system .
Use RSA1 Transaction --> go to Tools --> Manage Source System :
Here you can map the entry  of system ..
Second : go to Development system under RSA1> Transport Connection and click on Source system button first --> select your source system ---you  can select multiple entry also ..collect your data source ( with before and after option ) and deselect which object you do not need ..And select collection mode to automatically ...
use the transport button to create  transport request and release from development system .
I hope you will not get error in Q system .
If still facing error , Please let me know.

  • Huge number of records got failed in psa

    Hi,
i got one error in psa, more records (around 1000)got failed for ZQCUSTNM infoobject due to alpha conversion problem. i know manually edit one by one, but it will take more time ,so i want quick solution , if any thing is there pls tell me .
    thanks
    reddy

go to the transfer rules for this data load's infosource..
go to 'transfer rules' tab there..
For this infoobject..scroll to right and tick the last checkbox for 'apply conversion automatically'.This will automatically apply alpha conversion to all values of that field, which come in the source records.
save tr rules and reactivate them.
    then reload..

  • During Import if one record got failed so all records will not import?

    Hi All,
I want to clear on the following situation:
I have 10 records in a file and due to 2 records some structural reason import got failed.. So do MDIS will import 8 records and create a file with two records in error folder? or it will not import at all and create a file in the error folder?
How does it works?  basically I want to know if because of any reason 1-2 records in a 1000 records file got failed do entire file willnot import or only those errored records are not imported?
    THanks
    Rajeev

    Hi Rajeev,
have 10 records in a file and due to 2 records some structural reason import got failed.. So do MDIS will import 8 records and create a file with two records in error folder? or it will not import at all and create a file in the error folder?
This totally depends on your business scenario,
    1. If you want that if there are expection in even one file also all the records should not be imported than also it is possible
    2. If you want that if the exception is there than only the exception records should be sent to the Exception Folder and rest of the records should be imported by MDIS service, this process is also possible.
For implementing the second scenario you just have to set the property in Console -> Admin -> Ports
Block on Structural Exception = No
And if you want that the files should not be imported even if one file has exception then set
Block on Structural Exception = Yes
    Hope this would be helpful.

  • 10.1.0.5 32bit - 10.2.0.4 64bit x86 upgrade on Windows

Can anyone think of a way of getting from 10.1.0.5 32bit to 10.2.0.4 64bit x86 without an intermediate step through 10.2.0.4 32bit?
My problem is hardware capacity and downtime ... I don't want to disturb my existing production 32bit environment for obvious reasons.
My target machine has 64 bit OS (Win2003) so I can't run 32bit 10.2.0.4 on that. The only 64bit 10.1.0.5 I can find is for Itanium only so I can't run that either.
If there were a 64bit x86 version of 10.1.0.5 I would move database to 64bit machine, upgrade to 64bit at 10.1.0.5 and then upgrade in place to 10.2.0.4. However I think I am stuck with introducing an additional 32 bit machine just to get from 10.1.0.5 to 10.2.0.4 in the 32bit world, and then move again to my target 64bit environment.
Is it really true that there is no 64bit 10.1.0.5 for x86 Windows? Any bright ideas for avoiding having to move the whole database twice?
    Regards, Dave

There is one metalink note 403522.1 which talks about migrating from 32 bit to 64 bit on 10g but it is meant for 10gR2. So I am not very sure if this is applicable from 10gR1 as well.
If you have your 64 bit server ready, you could install 10.2.0.4 64 bit on that and try the steps from this note.

I would start by verifying whether user BACITEQ exists.
If that did not help, I would look at other messages in the output and follow up on those messages.

    Regards
    DAS

Its giving a unique constraint error.
Try running a select query on das_deploy_dats with id "dd1001". There should be a record already present there.
This kind of error comes when you have imported some tables from another database.
    Thanks

  • Data Collection Set 'Server Activity' Failure Waiting on a kernel object(s) failed. Inner Error ------------------ The handle is invalid.

All of the system data collection sets have been running for 6+ months without any issues, couple of weeks ago the 'Server Activity' collection set failed to restart after a planned maintenance server reboot.
When attempting to manually start the collection set it indicates "success", but after refreshing the collection set it showing as stopped. Viewing the logs for the Data Collection (Server Activity) I am getting the message:
Waiting on a kernel object(s) failed. Inner Error ------------------>
    The handle is invalid.
After some research into this really unhelpful message I came across one posting where this error has been found to occur in SP1. We are running SP2 which include the fix so this shouldn't be the problem (ref http://connect.microsoft.com/SQLServer/feedback/details/585210/sql-server-2008-data-collection-execmasterpackage-timeout).
To see more detail on the root cause of the error I enabled the additional tracing for data collection (http://blogs.msdn.com/b/sqlagent/archive/2011/07/13/enabling-additional-tracing-for-data-collector.aspx). This provided an exception stack which indicated
that the issue was thrown to what looks like an existing file, referring to a location (e:\) which doesn't exist in our system.

I am now stumped as I haven't found anyone else experiencing this issue.
    Any ideas, please help??

Thanks for the pointer Eileen, problem solved.
Can't believe I missed it, but after reading the last section on system hangs it occurred to me that I hadn't checked that all dcexec.exe processes were killed when I disable the data collection service.
For anyone else experiencing this issue I identified the dcexec.exe processes using the following in cmd line:
    TASKLIST /SVC /FI "IMAGENAME EQ DCEXEC.EXE"
On the default setup of the data collection there should be two dcexec.exe processes constantly running, one for "Server Activity" and another for "Query Statistics". On our server there were five running with the data collection disabled.
After killing all of the processes and restarting the data collection problem solved!!
Still need to understand why the processes didn't shut down cleanly when the server was restarted, but at least I know where to look now.
