Data Collection Set 'Server Activity' Failure Waiting on a kernel object(s) failed. Inner Error ------------------ The handle is invalid.

All of the system data collection sets have been running for 6+ months without any issues, couple of weeks ago the 'Server Activity' collection set failed to restart after a planned maintenance server reboot.
When attempting to manually start the collection set it indicates "success", but after refreshing the collection set it showing as stopped. Viewing the logs for the Data Collection (Server Activity) I am getting the message:
Waiting on a kernel object(s) failed. Inner Error ------------------>
The handle is invalid.
After some research into this really unhelpful message I came across one posting where this error has been found to occur in SP1. We are running SP2 which include the fix so this shouldn't be the problem (ref http://connect.microsoft.com/SQLServer/feedback/details/585210/sql-server-2008-data-collection-execmasterpackage-timeout).
To see more detail on the root cause of the error I enabled the additional tracing for data collection (http://blogs.msdn.com/b/sqlagent/archive/2011/07/13/enabling-additional-tracing-for-data-collector.aspx). This provided an exception stack which indicated
that the issue was thrown to what looks like an existing file, referring to a location (e:\) which doesn't exist in our system.

I am now stumped as I haven't found anyone else experiencing this issue.
Any ideas, please help??

Thanks for the pointer Eileen, problem solved.
Can't believe I missed it, but after reading the last section on system hangs it occurred to me that I hadn't checked that all dcexec.exe processes were killed when I disable the data collection service.
For anyone else experiencing this issue I identified the dcexec.exe processes using the following in cmd line:
TASKLIST /SVC /FI "IMAGENAME EQ DCEXEC.EXE"
On the default setup of the data collection there should be two dcexec.exe processes constantly running, one for "Server Activity" and another for "Query Statistics". On our server there were five running with the data collection disabled.
After killing all of the processes and restarting the data collection problem solved!!
Still need to understand why the processes didn't shut down cleanly when the server was restarted, but at least I know where to look now.

When I create a new connection with sql developer, with the same hostname / IP (192.168.56.101), Port 1521 (didn't change that) and SID orcl, basic connection type, it can't even connect, throwing the error mentioned in the subject:

I have looked at various threads in the forums here but I'm still stymied why the connection seems to be ok, yet sql developer has problems with it. If I create an ssh tunnel so sql developer only has to connect to localhost it works:
    ssh -L 1521:192.168.56.101:1521 -l oracle 192.168.56.101

    Hi Ali,
This may be of varoius reasons..
Is the database that you are connecting on the same PC?
    You have specified Hostname: localhost.
If not please replace it with the IP of that server.
Else please check whether the database listener is started or not. if not please start the listener.
Check the SID by tnsping command.
    Hope this will help you..
    Thanks

    Hi There!
I have created one package (1) to import data from Flatfile(csv), (2)Clean It  then (3)send clean rows to SQL Database.

    Hi,

    /people/vikash.agrawal/blog/2006/04/05/load-lots-of-data-147faster148-with-buffering-number-range
    What is buffering number range:
“Buffer the Numbers ( which system picks up from database -in case of Master Data – SIDs & in case of Transaction Data Dimension Ids) and use these buffered numbers rather than hitting the database (for each new master data records or for each new combination of SIDs to create a new Dimension Ids). So the concept is –
“SID Number Range can be Buffered Instead of Accessing the Database for Each SID”

  • Problem setting up data collection for a performance problem

We have a performance problem on our production environment: there is a query that is long to display specially on specific records involving a lot of détails. I had the idea to set up data collection to investigate the problem.
I used the wizard to set up data collection with default settings.
I had created a database PERF_DW on our test server for that purpose.
I didn't have any problem with the wizard: it created data collection sets and SQL Server agents tasks and probably many objects. But I don't know where I missed something  but I didnt, have the chance to specify the database I wanted to tune
and even when I started data collection, I couldn't figure out where were the reports.
Then I tought that I did it all wrong so I stopped data collection and dropped the database and tried to deleted the jobs created and I had the following message:

    Hello,
Please refer to the following article.

You can run the dcclenaup.sql script mentioned in the article.

  • WJA - Failed Alerts - Data Collection Inaccuracies

I have been running Web Jetadmin v10.2.7491B on a 2003 server for about 3 years. There are 120 managed printers consisting of 9 different models.
    Issue #1
Initially I had alerts configured on all printers that would send an email when a consumable dropped below 3%. This worked very relibly for the first year. Over time, an increasing number of printers stopped sending reports, until eventually only a handful sent alerts. I never found the cause of this problem.
    Issue #2
Since alerts were broken, I setup a daily data collection for all printers and a morning csv report sent via email. I would then sort the data by remaining consumable percentage and replace those at 1% or below. Recently, 3 models out of 9 have stopped reporting accurate consumable percentages in the daily reports. This problem seems to correspond with a firmware update I pushed out to all printers. The WJA console DOES show accurate information for individual printers when they are selected.
    Steps taken to resolve #2
Printers have been removed from the all Report Data Collection groups, and then added back. This did not resolve the issue. Printers were initially added individually to a Data Collection, but I have implemented a Group Policy that automatically adds a printer to the Data Collection. 6 printer models still show accurate percentages, but models 4345, 4730, and 5035 do not.
Is there a database file I can delete that will force a Data Collection rebuild for all printers? Is it possible the new firmware for the 3 listed models has a bug that prevents the data from being updated?
    This question was solved.

With this a file is getting created on the application server, but the data is not correct. I am getting the data something like:

Could anyone tell me the reason why am I getting the data in this way?
    Thanks in advance,

    HI,
Use this FM SAP_CONVERT_TO_XML_FORMAT to convert the data to XML format and then upload the convert data from the internal table to Application server.

  • Data streaming between server and client does not complete

Using an ad-hoc app, data streaming between server
and client does not complete as it supposed to be.
The process runs well in solaris 5.8, however under 5.9
we have found the characters stream buffer length limitation
is around 900 to 950 characters (by default we are using 3072
    characters).
    Example:
    - We are transfering HTML file, which will be displayed
in the App client, with buffer=3072, the HTML only displayed / transfered
as xxxxxxxx characters, but with buffer=900 the HTML is displayed properly,
in this case, the only problem that we have is the file transfer will
    eventually longer than usual.
    - There is another case, where we have to transfer information (data) as stream
to the client. A long data stream will not appear at all in the client.
Any ideas why the change between 5.8 and 5.9 woudl cause problems?
The current app-driver that we are using is compiled using Solaris 5.6,
if possible we would like to have use of a later version, which is compiled using Solaris 5.9, do you think this will probably solve our problem?
    Thanks
    Paul

Does this have anything to do with Java RMI? or with Java come to think of it?

  • BC Add-on "Contacting Server. Please Wait" in Dreamweaver

    Hi everyone,
I've ran into a snag with BC & Dreamweaver CC 2014.1, I want to edit modules & etc within Dreamweaver however the BC window loops in this 'Contacting Server. Please Wait" cycle. I've uninstalled and reinstalled both the BC addon and the Dreamweaver application itself but still no results, I've also not got a firewall or little snitch running in the background. I can manage the BC sites and edit the local/remote files however this is quite an important window to get full integration regarding BC & Dreamweaver. Anyone else experienced this? any ideas?
    Many thanks,
    Sam

No firewall issues as far as I can tell. I have a MacBook Pro Retina that works perfectly on the same network, the plugin functions as it should.
So I did the a final test on my late 2008 Mac Pro, loaded a fresh copy of Yosemite on an external and only loaded CC and Dreamweaver. The plugin still timed out. Have officially given up now and chalking this one up to old gear.
Now I have at least one more reason to get a new Mac Pro!

    Hello,
If you are using the "Paper Layout", check the Reports's "Before Report Value" property:
    Before Report Value :
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=&Encoding">
If you are using the "Web Layout", take a look to the document :

  • SQL Developer: Failure -Test failed: IO Error: Network Adapter No Conn

SQL Developer: Failure -Test failed: IO Error: The Network Adapter could not establish the connection
    Hi,
and sorry this is a really common questions and yes I did do a search, but I don't understand it.
First let me just tell you that Oracle 11g is installed on my second laptop on the same Network.
Secondly I can connect to the Database using Oracle SQL Developer on the laptop Oracle 11g is installed on.
The problem is I want to connect to the database on my main Laptop.
I put in the correct details Hostname 192.168.0.8 ( this is the laptop oracle is installed and running on)
    Port 1521
    SID dbarudu
****** YES I HAVE PORT FORWARDED
****** YES I HAVE ALLOWED 1521 on the FIREWALL
****** YES I HAVE EVEN SWITCHED OFF THE FIREWALL
Now one more thing you should know ... I don't know nothing about Oracle Servers ok.... so I have just installed Oracle 11g Enterprise and thought done it should be working now.
I just need to use oracle db for a project.
So keep in mind I am a total noob and terms like TNSPING etc mean absolutely nothing to me.
So please help, but help with step by step guide on how to get Oracle to let me have access from another computer.

If the Listener is working, then you should not get the error SQL-Developer error you are reporting.
The listener typically runs using the hostname and port 1521. This means it opens tcp port 1521 on all IP addresses of that platform.
The database server by default will register itself with the local listener. Thus the listener will know the database SID, the database services, whether there are dispatchers to support shared server connections and so on.
The client side needs simply to specify 3 pieces of data to connect:
    - the IP of the database server
    - the tcp port of the listener
    - a database identifier (such as Oracle SID or service name) to connect to
    It is really that simple.
If this does not work, the problem falls into 2 broad categories:
    a) incorrect installation and configuration of the Oracle software (the out-of-the-box install works unless messed up)
    b) some kind of networking issue
To troubleshoot any problem means reducing the complexity of the problem, eliminating multiple moving parts and focusing on specific ones, in order to isolate the problem.
For your problem, this will go something as follows:
    - does the listener run? (check if the service is running and whether tcp connections are accepted on the listener port - telnet can be used for the latter)
    - does the database successfully registers itself with the listener? (check the services command of the listener and relevant db initialisation parameters)
    - does a local TNS (tcp network) connection work on that server? (use SQL*Plus and test on that platform client-server connectivity via tcp to the listener)
    - does the client platform have connectivity with the server platform? (use ICMP and telnet to test)
    - repeat the TNS test on the client platform using the same working TNS tested on the server platform
Do not use JDBC to test the connection - keep it simple and use sqlplus and the standard Oracle Call Interface (OCI). A full client version of the OCI plus sqlplus can be downloaded under the Oracle InstantClient downloads.
Finally - if you expect to simply install and use Oracle, then use the correct version. Oracle Express Edition aka Oracle XE. Installs and works out-of-the-box. The only manual config change to make is (as far as I recall) to run the listener on all IP addresses of that platform. And this required editing the listener.ora file, changing the HOST parameter and restarting the listener.
Also keep in mind that you have not presented an Oracle error code and Oracle error message. But a client application error message. And that message is pretty much meaningless - it does not point to a specific Oracle networking or Oracle server problem. To diagnose that, we expect a TNS or ORA error number.
