8/07 live upgrade Seg Faults

I'm having a bit of trouble trying to live ugprade an 11/06 system to 08/07.
# luupgrade -u -s /export/install/install.Sol10_sparc.0807 -n 0807 -j /var/adm/luupgrade.profile
-o /var/adm/L.luupgrade.out.0807 -l /var/adm/L.luupgrade.err.0807
After the operation is almost complete, this eventually produces in the upgrade log:
Restarting upgrade:

Resuming partially completed upgrade

Cannot find non-global zone list.
ERROR: The upgrade script terminated abnormally

Any ideas on where to start tracking down the problem?

Hello,
Did you successfully fixed that ?
I encounter the same problem.

    Cannot use pacman.  All other programs seem to perform correctly.  Perhaps have lost DNS.
    Cannot perform ...pacman -Syu --debug.....segfaults.

    Solved the difficulty but have no idea what can be done to prevent it from occuring for another user.
    It seems that the db did not get upgraded when the ...pacman-db-upgrade ...command was executed.  There was no statement for ..."pre 3.5 db" upgrade....while executing the command.
    After re-install, the upgrade command performed correctly and pacman now performs correctly after reboots.
    The question comes up as to what to do if the upgrade command does not work correctly and whether some indicator of correct response should appear in the beginners guide.  Additionally, what can be done in the event that the upgrade command fails to meet the correct response.
    These questions will in time be resolved by a new .iso but the present exposure is amazing in its consequences!
    Perhaps the upgrade command is also a function of properly synced mirrors but the command requesting the upgrade was ...pacman -Syy... the mirror sync function!
    What do we have...catch22?
    The resultant segfaults make sense if the pacman sync db is not upgraded.
    How is a user to know the upgrade failed?  What to do about such a condition?
    Marking this thread as solved ...with comments...

  • [SOLVED] Gnome 2.26 upgrade. Seg faults during upgrade.

    Hello.
    I have an huge problem...
    Yesterday I've tried to update my ArchLinux and I've got seg faults from gconf during the upgrade and my gnome won't start.
    Nautilus, gnome-settings-daemon, etc... All of them with seg faults.
    Anyone with the same problem?
    Last edited by sLUGo (2009-04-06 00:21:14)

    I tried rebuilding the schemas according to the instructions found inthe bug
    report:
    http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/14107
    but I still get segmentation fault. These occur at the points indicated below in
    the snip from the command output:
    --------output-from-command-----------------------
    Installerade schemat "/schemas/desktop/gnome/typing_break/enabled" för lokalen "C"
    Segmenteringsfel
    Installerade schemat "/schemas/apps/yelp/fixed_font" för lokalen "C"
    Segmenteringsfel
    Needless to say this means that trying to reinstall gnomelibs and yelp (which
    were the ones that seg-faulted during upgrade) still causes segmentation fault.

  • Xorg upgrade causes Xinerama to seg fault

    I have searched tirelessly for a resolution to this fault, so hopefully this is not a repeat...
    I recently upgraded to xorg-server 1.5.3.4. Since then, if I enable Xinerama in xorg.conf, I receive a segmentation fault.
    I am using nvidia-173 driver as I have two cards, a Geforce 9600 GT and a Geforce PCX 5900 (with three monitors). The 5900 does not work with the latest driver, and the 9600 does not work with the nvidia-96 driver
    In my efforts to identify the problem, I have disabled all modules and composite support in xorg.conf, and tried X, KDM and Gnome, all of which bomb out after about 5 seconds of black screen. When I run X, I receive a seg fault in twm. I have tried other window managers, and they also cause a seg fault. I have also tried installing the nvidia 32 bit libraries as well, but no go. Setting Xinerama to 0 stops the seg fault, but unfortunately does not allow me to seamlessly move windows onto my third monitor.
    Attached is my original xorg.conf file if this helps.
    I am running arch 86_64.
    Any assistance would be really appreciated.

    Thanks SamC.
    I did some research, and unfortunately it appears that XRandR v1.2 does not support multiple boards...it is planned for the next release though.
    Looks like I'll have to hold out until then.

  • Safari seg faults when invoking Live Meeting or Space Cruiser

    Running OSX 10.5.2 and java J2SE5.0. Trying to invoke either LiveMeeting or Space Cruiser (both net conferencing programs) causes Safari to abruptly quit. The stack trace looks like a BAD ACCESS seg fault. Both of these worked previously. Don't know if it is the 10.5.2, Safari 3.1 or the java version that is now causing the problem.
    This is a big step backwards for Apple. These programs are a must in the corporate environment. Does anyone have any experience with this? Is there a Debug setting that will allow these to work?

  • Loading perl module LWP::Simple causes seg fault

    I just ran pacman -Syu (upgraded 400 packages and the kernel went from 3.12.9-2 to 3.16.1-1 to give an idea of the last time I updated this system).
    Now when I run:
    perl -e 'use LWP::Simple'
    It seg faults and dumps core.
    pacman says: /usr/share/perl5/vendor_perl/LWP/Simple.pm is owned by perl-libwww 6.08-1 Which is the current version.  I tried reverting to 6.05-1 (the version I had previously) but it give the same result.
    Checking pacman.log, I see two errors:
    [2014-08-30 21:31] [PACMAN] installed perl-xml-sax-base (1.08-3)
    [2014-08-30 21:31] [ALPM-SCRIPTLET] /tmp/alpm_TUIVDd/.INSTALL: line 1: 21528 Segmentation fault (core dumped) perl -MXML::SAX -e "XML::SAX->add_parser(q(XML::SAX::PurePerl))->save_parsers()" &> /dev/null
    [2014-08-30 21:31] [PACMAN] installed perl-xml-sax (0.99-4)
    [2014-08-30 21:31] [ALPM-SCRIPTLET] could not find ParserDetails.ini in /usr/share/perl5/vendor_perl/XML/SAX
    So I uninstalled those packages and when I reinstalled, there were no errors... that didn't help.
    Any ideas?

    I found what's causing it, but still don't know how it got there.  For anyone else who has similar problems, here's how I found which module was the problem:
    strace perl -e 'use LWP::Simple' |& grep '^open' | tail -1
    In my case, it shows:
    open("/usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/auto/Storable/Storable.so", O_RDONLY|O_CLOEXEC) = 5
    I'm not sure why I have that file when I also have the proper /usr/lib/perl5/core_perl/auto/Storable/Storable.so.  Perhaps I was installing stuff from CPAN and it did that to fulfill a dependency?
    And it's far from the only one:  I found 27 other .so duplicates in site_perl that are also in core_perl:
    cd /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl
    find . -name "*.so" | xargs -n1 pacman -Qo |& grep "No package owns" | cut -c24- | xargs -n1 -I{} ls -l ../core_perl/{} |& grep -v "cannot access"
    Cleaning this up isn't going to be fun... I have 12 more .so's in site_perl that do NOT exist in core_perl or vendor_perl... so I can't just delete all unowned files in site_perl.

  • Please help. ssh seg faults

    Hi,
    SSH is seg faulting ever since I upgraded to 10.4.8. If I force version 1 it is ok, but that's not a solution. Also, Keychain Access.app is seg faulting.
    Please, if you can, help me figure this out.

  • How to delete file systems from a Live Upgrade environment

    How to delete non-critical file systems from a Live Upgrade boot environment?
    Here is the situation.
    I have a Sol 10 upd 3 machine with 3 disks which I intend to upgrade to Sol 10 upd 6.

    all of the filesystems, incl the data ones.

    How do I do a live upgrade on this system?
    Thanks for your help.

    Thanks for the tips.
    I commented out the entries in /etc/vfstab, also had to remove the files /etc/lutab and /etc/lu/ICF.1
    and then could create the Boot Environment from scratch.
    I was also able to create another boot environment and copied into it,
    but now I'm facing a different problem, error when trying to upgrade.

    ERROR: Cannot unmount miniroot at </cdrom/Solaris_10/Tools/Boot>.I find it strange that this sparc machine is complaining about x86.miniroot.
    BTW, the machine on which the DVD image is happens to be x86 running Sol 10.
    I thought that wouldn't matter, as it is just NFS sharing a directory which has a DVD image.
    What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks.

    I've tried to do a -locci10 instead of the -locci10_343, still nothing..
    Intesting to note, the older version of the application on the same environment doesn't have this problem..
    I do know OCCI is a bit tempremental, especially when creating threads, as i've had to put a 100ms delay otherwise i get other errors
    the back trace looks like, it allways core dumps when releasing the connection..

    Any help/suggestions whould be much appreciated..
    Cheers
    James

    Shiyer,
    libmoxa.so is the library I have created which is performing the oracle queries..
    The pool is created from the main thread by:
    Environment _env = Environment::createEnvironment (Environment::DEFAULT);
    ConnectionPool connectionpool = _env->createConnectionPool(
    username, passwd, tnsname, 1, 10, 1);
    And then each query is used run inside a connect initiated with:
    Connection *conn = connectionpool->createConnection(_username.c_str(), passwd.cstr());
    Statement *stmt = conn->createStatement("select 1 from dual;");
    ResultSet *rset = stmt->executeQuery();
    while( rset->next() == rset->DATA_AVAILABLE ) {
    std::cout << rset->getInt(1) << std::endl;
    stmt->closeResultSet (rset);
    conn->terminateStatement (stmt);
    and connection released with:
    connectionpool->terminateConnection(conn);
    Hope this helps!
    cheers
    James

  • JVM 1.4 seg faults with pure java code?

    Has anybody else seen JVM 1.4 seg fault when running pure java code? This seems like it shouldn't be possible, but I get the following at indeterminate times. Unfortunately, it is difficult to isolate since decreasing the size of the program avoids the problem. When the seg fault happens, the size in memory is ~1GB and there is plenty of real and virtual memory to spare.

    Hi sevenM,
    Did you figure out a workaround for this problem?. Did you get it solved with the SUN people?. Is it a known bug?.
    I've got exactly the same problem on the same function and VM library.
    Any info on this is very much welcome.
    Thx
    Krithiga
    I get the same error sometimes with tomcat-4.0.4 on a
    Slackware 8.0.0 and JDK 1.4.0. I don't user any JSPs,
    only servlets and the business calls a remote SLSB on
    a remote JBOSS server and afterwards select some data
    form a remote DB2 7.1 over JDBC.

  • Solaris 10 5/08 live upgrade only for customers with serviceplan ?

    Live upgrade fails due to missing /usr/bin/7za
    Which seems to be installed by adding patch 137322-01 on x86 according to release notes http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/820-4078/installbugs-114?l=en&a=view
    But this patch (may also be the case for Sparc patch) are only available for customers with a valid serviceplan.
    Does this mean that from now on its required to purchase a serviceplan if you would run Solaris 10 and use the normal procedures for system upgrades ?
    A bit disappointing ...

  • DiskSuite and Live Upgrade 2.0

    I have two Solaris 7 boxes running DiskSuite to mirror the O/S disk onto another drive.
    I need to upgrade to Solaris 8. In the past I have used Live Upgrade to do so, when I have enough free disk space to partition an existing disk or to use a unused disk for the Solaris 8 system files.
    In this case, I do not have sufficient free space on the boot disk. So, what is the best approach? It seems that I would have to:
    1. unmirror the file system
    2. install Solaris 8 onto the old mirror drive using LU 2.0
    3. make the old mirror drive the boot drive
    4. re-establish mirroring, being sure that it goes the right way from the Solaris 8 disk to the old boot disk
    Comments, suggestions?

    I recently built a system (specs below) and installed this card (MSI GF4 Ti4200 VTD8X MS8894, 128MB DDR), and when I try to use Live Update 2 (version 3.33.000, from the CD that came with the card), I get the same message:
    "Warning!!! Your Display Card does not support MSI Live Update 2 function.  Note: MSI Live Update 2 supports the Display Cards of MSI only."
    I'm using the drivers/BIOS that came on the CD: Driver version 6.13.10.4107, BIOS version 4.28.20.05.11.  I see on the nVidia site that they have the 4109 drivers out now, should I try those?  ?(
    I have also made sure to do the suggested modifications to IE (and I don't have PC-cillin installed):
    "Note: In order to operate this application properly, please note the following suggests.
    -Set the IE security setting 'Download signed ActiveX controls' to [Enable] or [Prompt]. (System default is [Prompt]).
    -Disable 'WebTrap' of PC-cillin(R) or any web based anti-virus application when executing MSITM Live Update 2TM.
    -Update Microsoft® Windows® Installer"
    I downloaded a newer version of LIveUpdate (3.35.000), and installed it (after completely uninstalling the old version), and got the same results.  Nothing on my system is currently overclocked.

  • Live Upgrade 2.0 (from Sol8 K23 to Sol9 K05

    Installed LU 2.0 from solaris 9 CDs
    Created a new BE (= copy of my Sol8 K23)
    Start upgrade on my inactiive BE to Sol9
    insert Solaris 9 CD 1of2
    luupgrade -u -n <INACT_BE> -s /cdrom/sol_9_403_sparc/s0
    --> runs fine
    eject cdrom
    insert Solaris 9 CD 2of2
    luupgrade -i -n <INACT_BE> -s /cdrom/sol_9_405_sparc_2 -O '-nodisplay'
    After a few questions, the upgrade starts,
    it first upgrade Live Upgrade ok,
    then it start upgrading Solaris,
    it than fails .
    I checked the logs on the <INACT_BE> and found in
    /var/sadm/install/logs/Solaris_9_pacjages...
    it failed on installing SUNWnsm (Netscape 7) because already installed !!
    It is right that I had SUNWnsm on my Solaris 8 system!!
    Why is this causing LU to fail ?
    It should just skip that package and go to the next
    For the sake of it I deinstalled netscape 7 of my <INACT_BE> using pkgrm -R
    I then restarted the LU using CD 2of2 , now it goes further but fails on package SUNWjhrt (java) which also existed !!
    Do I miss something or is LU just unusable ??Thanks

    Fred,
    I personally have never read that caveat, what is recommended is to always run the same version on components that use the same firmware bundle, in other words....  For a B series upgrade, you need the Infraestruture bundle (include firmware for Fabric Interconnects, IOMs and UCSM) and also need the Server bundle (which includes the firmware for the CIMC, BIOS and Adapter).
    Bottom line, the recommendation is to run exactly the same version for components that use firmware that come from the same bundle BUT,  UCSM 2.1 introduces an enhancement: "Mixed version support (for infra and server bundles firmware) "  wich allows the combination of SOME infraestructure bundles with some server bundles.
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/unified_computing/ucs/release/notes/UCS_28313.html#wp58530 << Look for
    "Operational enhancements"
    These are the posible configurations I am aware of:
    2.1(1f) infrastructure and 2.0(5a)+ server firmware
    2.1(2a) infrastructure and 2.1(1f)+ server firmware
    I hope that helps.

  • Live upgrade - solaris 8/07 (U4) , with non-global zones and SC 3.2

    Dears,
    I need to use live upgrade for SC3.2 with non-global zones, solaris 10 U4 to Solaris 10 10/09 (latest release) and update the cluster to 3.2 U3.
    i dont know where to start, i've read lots of documents, but couldn't find one complete document to cover the whole process.
    i know that upgrade for solaris 10 with non-global zones is supported since my soalris 10 release, but i am not sure if its supported with SC.
    Appreciate your help

    Hi,
    I am not sure whether this document:
    http://wikis.sun.com/display/BluePrints/Maintaining+Solaris+with+Live+Upgrade+and+Update+On+Attach
    has been on the list of docs you found already.
    If you click on the download link, it won't work. But if you use the Tools icon on the upper right hand corner and click on attachements, you'll find the document. Its content is solely based on configurations with ZFS as root and zone root, but should have valuable information for other deployments as well.
    Regards
    Hartmut
