8 channel tracks/buses

Hello,
I was wondering if it is possible to create a track that has more than 6 outputs in Audition? I have tried the trial version and it doesn't look like that is possible. If not we it be implemented sometime soon?
Thanks in advance

  • Add a 2 channel track to video file

I have a WD TV Lube Hub media center hooked up to my TV/surround system in the living room, and it's loaded with movies, all in mkv container, DTS or DD 5.1 sound.
I've been using iVI Pro/iFlicks/Road Movie to convert them for iPad, using pass-through video conversion settings so they just convert the audio to AAC 2 channel and leave the video as-is, and re-container it. Very quick, and works a treat.
Problem is, it means I end up with 2 copies of the same movie on the drive (1 with a DTS/DD 5.1 audio track, 1 with a 2 channel AAC audio track).
Is there any of simply inserting the 2 channel AAC track into the existing movie file so it'll play on iPad?
I don't want to simply use the AAC 2 channel version of the movie for everything and delete the other one, because if I decide to watch the movie on the TV in the living room I then won't have DTS/DD 5.1 surround sound.

    I agree with Karsten.
What I would do in this case would be to create the first movie in iMovie. Then use FILE/DUPLICATE to create a duplicate of the project. I would then add the second audio track to this duplicate.
You could either mute the original audio track so you just hear the commentary, or you could use the ducking feature so that you can hear the original track at a softer volume while hearing the commentary track at full volume.
You would then need to share both projects to iTunes. You would have two distinct movies on your TV.
Here is a good video tutorial for how audio works in iMovie.

  • Merging clips results in several duplicate audio channels/tracks

I am trying to sync my audio and video in Premiere, and something is screwing it up.
I have my video track, that has 2 audio tracks.
Then I have my polyphonic wav file, that has 5 audio tracks.
    2+5 = 7, right?
So why is it, when I merge my two clips together, that Premiere decides to create 20 additional tracks for my Merged Clip, totaling 27 tracks?! The majority of them are blank/empty/silent. Why is it doing this?

I don't understand this part of your explanation. It's been a while since I've used PE, since FCPX's sync and multicam features work so well.
Why not try a short test – skipping the PE steps entirely. Select two of your clips and let FCP automatically create a test multiclip matching the HVX waveforms with those on the 5D. Open in the Angle Editor – or start a test project and see whether the boom mic track is present.

  • Sending vocal tracks to an Aux channel with reverb

Sorry for this question that may have been answered somewhere else.
I'm trying to add a single reverb plug-in to 6 vocal tracks. I've bussed all 6 to an Aux channel via bus 1, setting the input of the Aux channel to bus 1. No sound. I can't seem to find the correct routing. Anyone know the answer to this simple task. I'm coming from ProTools where I had no problem with this.
    Thanks.

Are you actually sending some of each of the six tracks to the bus?
(little knobs next to the bus assignment under "sends")
Do you have the Aux or any of the 6 tracks muted?
DO you have the master muted?

  • Creating Aux, Bus, Master channels

I created a new file with nothing but audio channels to record a concert. How can I create aux, bus, and most importantly a master channel. I've looked everywhere and even read the manual tothe best of my ability and I still can't seem to figure it out.
Toto, I guess we're not in ProTools anymore. LOL

There's several ways to do this,
The way I have always done it, is to open the environment window, select the layer that I want to add objects to (in your case, the audio layer).
Now go under the environments mini "new" menu, and select "Audio Object". A blank channel strip should open. If you get a small icon looking thing, double clicking it should open it as a fader strip.
Now on the left hand side of the screen, is the parameter box for that new object (make sure that object is selected). Where it says "Channel", click and hold, and you'll get all the various types of audio objects this can be ( Track, Bus, Aux, Master, Output, etc...)
See if that helps get you going...

  • One track-16 midi channels - how to unify?

    Hi Forum
A specifik problem have occured for me.
I use in one track a multiinstrument with EWQLSO/KONTAKT as an host.
If i want in The Event list to specify a range of notes to a specifik/Same MIDI channel

    transform parameter could do that.
    But how to ?

I think using the Functions/Transform/Demix command to separate the track into individual MIDI channels would be the easiest option, then he could used the merge command to put them back together.

I originally was going to post the solution below, until
    I reread the question.
I think he wants to change specific notes (ie: D#) across multiple MIDI channels.
He must have the AU MIDI channel set to "All" and changed MIDI transmission channels on his controller so he ends up with a multi channel track.
If that's it, the easiest way is to use the Matrix editor piano keyboard to select the note (it selects all channels) and then double click on a selected note to open the event editor which will have the all of the correct notes selected.

  • TRACKS and CHANNELS and OBJECTS oh my!

I love logic!...but some of the terminology is so obviously confusing it boggles me. Can someone please clarify...and I do mean clarify some of this confusion.
Arrange tracks...are not the same as channel tracks?...Arrange tracks have a channel setting which selects a "track"...The arrange track # and channel track# have nothing to do with each other.Tracks are associated...or should I say...can be linked to(but dont have to be) with audi objects.
How do these elements fit together? I've read every book and manual and nobody has made it clear..NOBODY! Does an audio object need to be assigned to a "track". Are they essentially the same thing. or can you have a track that has no assignment to an audio object in which case it just doesn't play? If I select a track in the channel perameter box...am I essentially selecting an audio object? Or is a track a virtual pathway of sorts.
This confusion is so blatanly obvious I cant believe it. Just draw me a flow chart for gods sake..it cant be that convoluted. Any clarification would be most gratefully accepted. THANKS

    I love logic!...
I don't know how you can love it with this question and passion, but onward we go at the risk of responding to flame bait...
Arrange tracks...are not the same as channel
tracks?...Arrange tracks have a channel setting which
selects a "track"...The arrange track # and channel
track# have nothing to do with each other.Tracks are
    associated...or should I say...can be linked to(but
dont have to be) with audi objects.
I am not going to open up my manual and look up every term used but the 'confusion' would stem from the fact that Logic (and all DAWs) are both the mixer and media (aka the Tape). In traditional multitrack recordings that went from mixer to tape (Tracking) and then back from tape to mixer (to 2 track- tape again during Mixdown) a Channel was on the mixing board and a Track was on the tape deck. Many times you could mix the two and people would still know what you were talking about if the statement was obvious, but that is where we get those two terms.
Since Logic is BOTH, the meanings get a little blurred. However, some of the confusion is taken away as if you record onto "Track 1" you would have to do so via Channel 1 (although not necessarily through Input 1). On split mixing desks you could track the vocal through channel 8, record it onto tape track 10 and mix it down through channel 16. DAWs don't really give you that option and you can actually see what is recorded on what channel/track etc.
If you think that a Channel (strip) is the mixer part with the fader and inserts, etc and the space on the arrange window where the objects are layed out is the Track, that is all you need to know. HOWEVER, Logic numbers ALL TRACKS in the arrange window from 1 - xxx. You can ignore that number as it is just a numerical listing and doesn't represent any thing tangible.
Does an audio object need to be assigned to a
    "track".
When the audio object is in the arrange window, it has is own 'track' that is to its right.
Are they essentially the same thing. or can
you have a track that has no assignment to an audio
object in which case it just doesn't play?
Yes you can. You can use it for a variety of uses but whatever objects are on it won't play. It is called NO OUTPUT
    If I
select a track in the channel perameter box...am I
essentially selecting an audio object? Or is a track
    a virtual pathway of sorts.
Yes.You are just changing that parameter's assignment. You can have many Channels that point to the same 'track' and will read the same data etc.

  • Bus tracks absent in mixer??

    Hey...
I have been working on an album using some of the Logic composing templates (ie. r&b, rock, etc).
It was a great starting point for synths and effects, etc...but now that I'm in the process of mixing, I want to group certain instruments into buses. When I select bus 1-2 for my first group, the bus 1-2 channel appears in the mixer. When I select any other bus for any other group, no channel appears in the mixer.
It's almost as though when using these templates, you're restricted to 1 bus channel.
Anyone out there have a similar experience - or know what I'm doing wrong? Am I missing some kind of mapping step?
    Thanks

Since Logic 8 Busses get automatically assigned to Auxes unless you've created Busses in your environment beforehand. So either look for Auxes in your Mixer (with Busses assigned to their Inputs) or just create some new Busses in the environment, you're not restricted to anything.
Open environment (apple+8 is the default KC for that)->New->Channel Strip->Bus to create new Busses.

  • Mixing with Buses

    Hi,
I am currently mixing a large project (80 or so tracks) and I'm trying out various bus set ups to try and save on CPU. I want to be able to send groups of channels (i.e. drums or vocals) to a bus via a send (in the normal manner) but I also want to send groups of channels to other buses to apply global dynamics processing (thus saving on CPU) and to control them by a master aux fader.
Here is how I've sent up the Vocals...
I have set up a send (to bus 1) on each vocal channel and then inserted a reverb onto Aux 1 with input set as Bus 1 and the output to main 1-2. I have then set the output for the vocal channels to bus 2. Aux 2's input is bus 2 and the output is main 1-2. On this aux I have inserted a compressor. Now on the actual bus channels (not aux) themselves I have set their output to nothing so the signal is passing through them but not being monitored. However I am getting phasing when monitoring - I can only think this happening due to me sending the signal to 2 buses, 1 via the send and the other directly via the output of each channel.
Help! Is there a simpler way to set up the mixer so I can achieve this?
    Many thanks for your help.

Does the reverb also pass dry signal? I believe it shouldn't, if its' used as a send-return. The dry part of the signal probably gets a delay too, when passing through the reverb. I am not sure though, I will try it out myself.

  • Recording live audio from a Bus

    Hey,
So what I'd like to do is record audio from a bus directly into an audio channel
I have a test oscillator in the input slot of an instrument channel
As you can see, the output is routed into bus 1
In order to process any audio that I have coming into bus 1, from any number of channels, I have bus one routed into an Aux channel, from which I can run any effects.  Aux 1 (w/ Bus 1 in the input slot) is routed to Bus 2 (Bus 1 w/ effects from Aux 1)
As I said earlier, I'd like to record the audio from a bus, in this case Bus 2, into an audio channel so that I've got a continuous audio file.  I figured the best way to do so was to create a record-enabled audio channel, with Bus 2 as the input, which I've done here
As the screenshot shows, the audio from Bus 2 is making it into the channel.
When I hit the record button, with "Audio 3", as the selected track no audio is recorded.
In other words, I can hear the audio, and I can run it through any processes, but I'm unable to record in a way that allows me to capture the live processing of the sound.
I tried googling the matter and some suggested bouncing the track the project, which should leave me with an audio file, in the bin, of the audio with any automated effects processing.  Logic's stopped responding, with the mini "bouncing" window on the screen both times I've tried to do this- I'm not sure if this is a seperate problem, which I'll have to deal with at another time or if it's related to what I'm triyng to do.
In any event, has anyone come across a way to route the audio that would allow me to record this audio live, without resorting to recording only the effects parameters and bouncing?

    Thanks CCT,
Checked the prefs and switched them to built in and it cleared it right up, but it did bring up another issue, because I don't remember ever switching it into the "none" position.
I'm working with a USB audio interface that I remove when not in use; possible that logic automatically reverts to "none" rather than "built-in" when I remove it, and can I make it so reverts directly to "built-in" when the interface is removed?

  • Channel Grouping - Adjusting send levels simultaneously

Please help! I can happily select multiple channels (for instance 8 channels of a drum kit) and adjust all fadr levels simultaneously but can somebody please tell me how I may adjust all send levels (to a bus) simultaneously?
An example: I wish to add equal reverb to all parts of a drum kit. I have a bus reverb channel to which all drum channels are sent. Must I adjust each send level seperately to the same amount or can they be grouped.
    Thank you

    Hi,
If Express features the "grouping" feature for
channel tracks, then you can use it.
    (Pro)Manual, page 276, subheading "Groups"
    Cheers
Hi and thanks for the reply,
Search as I may it appears Logic Express has no Grouping feature and there is nothing in the Express manual regarding grouping. I guess it's one of the reduced features compared with Pro.

  • One Instrument change affecting all tracks

I'm having a problem changing the Instrument patch in just one track: When I change the patch (on EXSP24) on a single Audio Instrument track, it automatically applies the same patch change to ALL Audio Instrument tracks. For example:
I've got drums on track 1, Instrument 1, Channel 1.
I create a new Instrument track w/new channel & a different patch. Logic then automatically assignes this new patch to the previous drum track also, as well as any other existing Instrument tracks, & any new tracks I try to create! Any change I make in one track comes up the same on every track.
What gives? Does this have anything to do with choosing Mono, Stereo or Multi Channel in the I/O slot? Does the Cycle function have anything to do with it?
This is aggravating & my ProCare tutor can't figure it out either. I'm pretty new to Logic, but then again I get the sense that so is my ProCare tutor...

I can't believe your basic question has been ignored for this long. This is something that I had hoped somebody else would give you a better answer for because it has driven me crazy as well, but I do have a work around for you that I stumbled across. The manual as usual has been unhelpful, the proper information is probably filed away in a tiny corner somewhere. Here's how I do it. Use the Create command from the the Track sub-menu of the arrange window. Logic will create a track under and with the same assignment as whatever track was highlighted prior to that command. Any changes to the assignment of either of these tracks will affect the other, which could be very useful, but shouldn't be the default in my opinion. Now click hold in the middle of the track name or icon. Follow the menu hierarchy as such: Audio>Audio Instrument>Inst X, X being a different number than the instrument number of your initial highlighted track. You could also select Audio Track, Bus, Aux or Output this way. You can now go to the channel strip and select whatever software instrument assignments you like for either track and they will work independently of each other. This is way too many commands for something as elementary as setting up a new track. I've assumed that there is a more elegant way to do this but I can't find it in the manual. If any of my fellow geniuses know of a more streamlined method, please add it to this thread.

  • Is it OK to clip audio if just going to an Aux track?

    Hi there
I have a project where the drums are recorded on 5 tracks (kick/snare/hat/overheads).
There's no clipping in the recording, but they sound a bit lifeless so I'm using EQ, nosie gate and lots of compression on the kick, snare & hat. This pushes the level meters for each track way into the red. (6.0+).
But, the output to these tracks is a "Drum Chamber" Aux Channel (via Bus 1) which has a mild "space designer" effect, followed by an adaptive limiter which stops the clipping from the output to the Aux track.
I've think got the sound I wanted. But should I be worried that the individual tracks are clipping, even though the original recordings and the final output aren't?
    Cheers
    SL

Well + 6dB is far too hot imo. On the other hand if you like the sound like it is, then why turn it down. Anyway I would never mix like that - depending on the speakers and especially after compressing to low quality mp3 the now inaudible artefacts produced by the heavy clipping could suddenly become audible and nasty sounding.
Why don't you at least insert a limiter set to -0.3 dB after the signal chain before the signal hits the Aux channel. You can bring up the fader again after that.
The smoothing of the drum chamber disguises the clipping of course, so bypass the reverb and see how the drums sounds dry.
Also use the pre fader metering when mixing. It helps keeping levels under control.

  • Stereo bus not stereo?

I use Logic to score animated shorts.  I'm working on one where all the action takes place in a warehouse, so I want to blanket all the sound effects in a little reverb.  My basic set up is:
    music tracks-> bus 1 -> stereo out
fx tracks -> bus 2 -> stereo out
    (these are outputs not sends)
My problem is once I run FX into that bus then suddenly everything is mono.  I have all kinds of automated pans going on as the action on screen takes place and if I set any individual track to the normal stereo out it works perfectly.  But putting them through the bus makes everything mono and I can't figure out why.  Bus is clearly labeled as stereo.  I assume there's a better way of doing this but it works really well for me to create all the music and send that through one bus and all the fx through another.  Any advice?
    Thanks.
    (using Logic 9.1.7)

Thanks for the quick responses!  I thought about the reverb throwing it off but here's a screenshot of a sound effect panned hard left, then going into the bus and coming out straight up the middle (notice the lines that show where the levels just were:  all left channel on the plunger track, totally even on the bus track):
I've got dozens of tracks, some mono some stereo, some wavs and some virtual instruments all going through the same bus.  I'm not sure about how to set up tracks like you mentioned aside from making them mono or stereo and panning them.  For reference here's another shot of my mixer (there are a ton of tracks so here's just the end of it):
Thanks for any help.  I'm self taught so if I'm going about this a dumb way please let me know.  I welcome and celebrate your condescension!

  • Sending to bus ignores panning?

This is a weird problem. I don't know what I messed up when I trashed my prefs (because the caps lock keyboard stopped working) but now when I want to dupe my overheads by sending them to a bus, they both send as mono.
    As in:
I've got two recorded tracks - Overhead L and Overhead R. Both are routed to, say, Bus 1, which is compressed and EQ'd for a regular overhead track.
I wanted a duplicated overhead track, pre-FX, so I had both dry individual tracks sent to Bus 2. Each is sending mono, so I end up with a summed mono version of the overheads instead of what I want.
Help? What could I have messed up? I have universal track mode on, which generally makes busses do what I want.

Ugh, that *****. That ***** a whole lot.
I mean, thanks for the article.
    I'm a bit confused though.
If I set an Aux with an input of a Bus is the signal this:
Audio Track -> Bus -> Aux
or is it Audio Track -> Aux
    Audio Track -> Bus
I have pulled my hair out with sessions where the Logic preset used Aux channels instead of Busses by default, and I never used the Aux channels... so when I pulled up the Busses to use (because, hey, that's the way it should work), the sound was doubled because the Auxes that were in the environment but NOT enabled in my song had the Busses I WAS using as inputs. Then I have to go to Global View and mute ever Aux track.
    help.
