802.1Q VLAN Tagging on DSL WAN Connection

Hi
Does anybody know if SRP527W supports 802.1Q VLAN tagging on DSL WAN connection for RFC1483 bridged connections?
Thanks
Justin

Hi Justin,
Sorry for the delay in responding.  Yes, this feature is now supported by the SRP527W using the MR3 release.  (Please see https://supportforums.cisco.com/docs/DOC-13853).

  • NEED HELP PLEASE Setting up 2 VLANS and a redundant WAN connection

I have a remote branch office which is actually a huge bar/lounge. The bar wants to enable patrons to access the Internet with their wireless laptops. I want to prevent those patrons from accessing our private network, and also prevent them from traversing our static VPN tunnel back to HQ.
The bar processes all credit cards via the T1 connection, and this has caused us to lose money every time the T1 goes down while we're open, since there is no WAN redundancy right now.
Here is my current hardware configuration:
    1) one PIX 501 50-user 3des.
    2.) two Dell 3024
    3.) one Aironet 1100(g) AP.
    Current LAN Network: 10.35.35.0
(internal employees only, static VPN tunneled to remote HQ network)
    Current Wireless SSID's:
    SSID1=PRIVATESSID
SSID2=PUBLICSSID (not currently in use, waiting to figure this out)
    Current WAN: one T1 connection.
WHAT I WOULD LIKE TO DO AND NEED HELP FIGURING OUT:
#1a) I want to create two separate VLAN's that are able to share the WAN connection, but not be able to "see" each other.
#1b) These VLAN's would be mapped to their respective SSID's on the AP (PRIVATESSID>10.35.35.0 and PUBLICSSID>192.168.1.0).
#1c) The 192.168.1.0 network should not be able to traverse the static tunnel between the branch site and HQ.
#2) I would like to install a backup WAN connection such as a modem 56k dial-up to an ISP or a cable modem to an ISP. In case the primary T1 goes down, I would like the router to automatically dial out over the modem conection and route all Internet bound traffic over that backup WAN connection, until the primary comes back online.
    Question 1:
I'm assuming I need a router to do the intervlan routing. Could this router also do the on-demand WAN backup dialing to an ISP via analog modem?
What IOS version and flavor (IP base, IP+, etc.) would I need? What is the cheapest router I can do all that with (i.e. 2620/2621/1720/3600 series)? What WIC's or NM's would I need?
    Question Two:
I would like to prioritize PRIVATESSID's traffic over PUBLICSSID's traffic, which I know I can do on the access point. Can I do this on the router so that any 10.35.35.0 traffic takes priority over any 192.168.1.0 traffic?
    Question Three
If the primary T1 WAN connection goes down, I don't want the router to re-route the 192.168.1.0 traffic over the backup 56k dial-up WAN connection. That traffic can wait until the T1 comes back up.
Any help you can provide would be very much appreciated.

Assuming your access points can place SSID into separate vlans and support 802.1q trunks then I can attempt to answer your questions. There are seperate secuity issues with both SSID for protection and VLANs for seperation but in your case in may be minimal.
    q1
Any cisco router that will run 802.1q trunking will work. Since you are looking at older routers you will need IP+ to get it. Even 2610's will support 802.1q on their 10m ethernet at the correct code level but 10m and 802.1q is sorta nonstandard. Since your backup is only 56k you can use the internal modem port as a dial backup. A wic-2a/s will also work if you prefer not to use the modem port. You will need some wic to run your t1 line. If you are planning to leave the t1 on another router it makes the next 2 questions much harder.
    q2
This is fairly simple and depends on your ios level. "priority queing" is supported on even the older software. I assume you do not control the far end of the t1 line since it sounds as if this goes to a ISP.
You will need to have them do the QoS since most issues with the internet are inbound and not outbound. You can only control outbound traffic.
    q3
If the T1 is on the same router then this is fairly simple. You can just put a floating static default route in that will cause the dialer to come up if the the t1 goes down. There is no easy way to protect against the line being up but no traffic passing. This is also why it would be best to have the t1 on the same router. If its not you will need to get very creative to solve this. You could build a GRE tunnel to a remote location and montior the tunnel or run a routing protcol over the tunnel. In the newest software you could use SAA and policy routing to force the traffic over the dialer but the router must support ios 12.4.
3a. You mentioned a cable modem as a backup. That can be much easier sometimes since it is all routing and no dialer interfaces with nasty modem issues. This does not make the issue of the t1 not on the same router easier.

  • 802.1q VLAN Tagging with IPMP

I have a system with multiple zones, some of my zones will be sitting on different subnets will it be possible to create vlan interfaces in my zones in conjunction with IPMP over my two ce interfaces ?
I will have IPMP in the global zone across my two ce interfaces and I would like to create the vlan interfaces within each zone is this possible yet ? I'm testing with Beta 72

    Sorry for the delay.
Yes, this is possible. Basically, each ce vlan you create is treated by the kernel as a discrete network interface. So, for instance, if you place both ce0 and ce1 in vlan 1 and 2, the result will be four network interfaces: ce1000, ce1001, ce2000, and ce2001 (along with the untagged ce0 and ce1 interfaces). Each of these network interfaces can be placed in its own IPMP group, just like a regular network interface.
However, just like a regular network interfaces, all interfaces in the same group must be part of the same broadcast domain. Thus, ce1000 and ce1001 should be placed in one IPMP group (since they are both on vlan 1), and ce2000 and ce2001 should be placed in another IPMP group (since they are both on vlan 2).
To bring zones into the picture, if you assigned an address on ce1000 to zone A (using zonecfg, or the 'zone' keyword to ifconfig), and booted the zone, an "ifconfig -a" in the zone would show just the address you assigned, on ce1000. However, if ce1000 later failed (e.g., because someone turned off the switch ce0 was plugged into), then the address would migrate to ce1001 (assuming it was not failed). At this point, an "ifconfig -a" in the zone would also show the same address, but now on ce1001.
This may seem surprising, but keep in mind that the zone identifier is associated with the address], not the interface. Thus, the failure of ce1000 causes its addresses to be migrated to ce1001 in the global zone, but the zones assigned to those addresses are preserved. Thus, after the failure the "ifconfig -a" still shows the address assigned to the zone even though it's on a network interface previously not "visible" to the zone (ce1001).
Hope this helps, and let me know if you have additional questions.

  • Transport dot1q vlan tagging over wan link

    Hi,
I would like to transport 802.1Q vlan tagging over a wan link, is it possible ?
    I heard about l2tp V3...
    Best regards

    Hi,
You would have to use a technology such as Ethernet over MPLS (EoMPLS) or VPLS. This technology is referred to as Layer 2 VPNs. You can get more info on this at the following locations:
EoMPLS (part of the Cisco Any Transport over ATM suite):
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps6646/products_ios_protocol_option_home.html
    VPLS:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps6648/products_ios_protocol_option_home.html
Hope that helps - pls rate the post if it does.

  • RV Support VLAN Tagging on WAN Port?

    Hi,
I'd like to know if RV Series Router can support VLAN tagging on the WAN port itself? I need this cause my ISP using such method to connect to end user modem/router.
    Thank you.
    Regards,
    Danny

Anything available other than this RV315W?  That model is only 10/100 on the LAN.  VLAN on the WAN is fairly standard for fibre installs and should be a feature across all SMB routers.

  • Cisco RV180 VLAN tagging WAN interface

Is there by any chance in the future firmware update that this product (RV180) will be able to support VLAN tagging on WAN interface like the Cisco's RV315W router? ISP in Singapore (Singtel) and Malaysia(Unifi) (http://klseet.com/index.php/mikrotik/mikrotik-rb750-750g/setup-for-unifi) requires certain type of vlan tagging on the WAN interface for it to work.
Is there any workaround to this?

I tried with only two vlans and set the DHCP active only for the office "vlan2". Computers receive the correct ip but some of them won't register on the network, i tried to set the ip manualy on the computers but that computer will still be isolated.
Ex: computer A receives ip 192.168.10.25, Subnet 255.255.255.0, Gateway 192.168.10.1, for 2-3 minutes i can access the router on 192.168.10.1 and the internet, after a random time interval the gateway won't even respond to ping. It's not from firewall related issues as i set to accept all both incoming and outgoing. If i set a manual ip corresponding to vlan1 "default" everything works. It's like that computer is isolated so i believe it has to do with the asignment of Tagged, untagged and Excluded settings on the vlans.

  • VLAN tagging for Desktops

I have a test VDI 3.1.1 system set up and I have to say, I'm quite impressed. In about a day, I was able to serve Windows 7 desktops, something we can't do with our current VMware View setup. One apparent limitation I have run into, however, is 802.1q VLAN tagging support for Desktop NICs. I have created a 2-way aggregate on nxge0 and nxge1. The portchannel these are connected to is set up for 802.1q tagging, and Solaris is plumbed with aggr13001 to tag its packets with VLAN 13, for example. However, traffic from Desktops is not so tagged, so its packets go nowhere. Is there any way to define a VLAN for a given Desktop Pool? This is important for us, as we tend to keep server systems on campus-only subnets, while desktops get Internet-routed addresses.
    Thanks,
    Charles

Aggregation shouldn't have any adverse effect here. You need to configure VDI to use the correct VLANs on a per Pools basis. In the VDI Manager first navigate to the Desktop Provider -> Networks tab and 'Refresh' the networks. This will scan all VirtualBox hosts in the provider for currently plumbed interfaces, each of which will be listed by their subnet.
After all networks are detected navigate to the Pool -> Settings tab and select 'Host Networking' followed by the required subnet(s). The primary subnet listed here is used for RDP connections.

  • RV320 and WAN VLAN tagging/IPTV

I have a fiber connection on WAN1 which only works with VLAN tagging and I can't find a way to make it work without the provider's middleware router (Comtrend C5813)... Is there a way to connect to my FTTH (Lucent I240G-B) router directly? I'm having problems with my IPTV (multicast) service, if it's connect direct to the middleware I can have multiple channels running at once, but if I go back to the RV320 and do the same, everything start to pixelate.
Using Wireshark I can see that the RV320 is connecting to the different channels with CS4 DSCP marking.
    Any ideas?
    Thank you!

As you can read above, I'm having problems with my IPTV pixelation/cuts... I need to be able to connect directly to the fiber and have more control over the connection, but I don't see the option on the web admin for PPPOE over VLAN. I don't know if it's a hardware limitation or just software (the GUI).

  • RV180W: VLAN ID on the WAN

We have installed a fiber internet access and have the ONT from the provider already installed.
We're trying to use the RV180W to use this internet connection.
    Details from the ISP:
    VLAN ID = 20
    IP WAN Rede: 62.xxx.xxx.36
    Default gateway: 62.xxx.xxx.37
    IP WAN CPE: 62.xxx.xxx.38
    Subnet mask: 255.255.255.252
    DNS primário: 62.xxx.xxx.173
    DNS secundário: 62.xxx.xxx.41
So I need to configure the router with the .36 static IP on the WAN, and using the .37 gateway and the provided DNS servers.
I also need that this WAN is tagged with VLAN ID 20.
Is this even possible? I'm only able to set VLAN ID on the LAN ports via the admin interface.

They specifficaly told me I had to tag my router wan with VLAN ID 20 as you can see on their email (portuguese but you'll get the main details).
    VLAN ID = 20
    IP WAN Rede: 62.xxx.xxx.36
IP WAN CPE: 62.xxx.xxx.38   <--- my router IP on the WAN
    Subnet mask: 255.255.255.252
    Deafult Gateway: 62.xxx.xxx.37
I also confirmed this on the phone with their technical support and they also didn't know this router and how to configure the VLAN ID tag on the WAN.
They normally provide the Alcatel tg799 or the Teldet Atlas 60, but my client wants to use this Cisco instead.

  • Airport Extreme(SW) keeps dropping the WAN connection under "heavy" load

    Hey,
Have had this problem ever since I got the Airport Extreme when it first came out and I got it.
The problem is this : The connection will work just fine for ages, but if I end up downloading something using (primarily this is the problem) torrents and I end up getting a rather good speed on it the airport will all of the sudden stop getting data from the WAN(ADSL modem connected to it through the WAN connection) and the Airport will have to be restarted. Some days it will have to be restarted up towards 15 times a day.
The Airport remains accessible through the LAN connection, as well as through the WiFi when it has failed like this so I can go in through the Airport Admin Utility and restart the unit without any problems whatsoever. The modem does not need restart or reiniting either.
The problem occurs no matter of if I am on the hard wired (LAN) connection or the WiFi connection. If I download something using a torrent that is high speed, especially if its more then one torrent at the same time (say 4 torrents each running at 200-300kbps therefor peaking at the roof of what my DSL connection can handle) then it will absolutely lock up after a minute or so. If I only do surfing or 'ordinary' work then there is no problem.
    The problem is easily repeated.
    * If I connect my laptop by wire to the modem directly without the airport in between there will be no problem.
    * I have software reseted the Airport many times to attempt to fix the problem when it has gotten on my nerves with no positive or changing result.
    * I have the latest available from Apple firmware(5.6) installed on the Airport.
    * I have no 'weird' or abnormal settings set on the Airport, and no neighbors playing tricks on me - This problem was with me when I used the airport fully locked down in a office environment and then went with it when I moved my airport unit out of my office in to my home.
    * I have no other wifi units in the house that may cause problems, no bluetooth phones running amok.
    Airport details:
    Apple Airport Extreme Base Station
    Firmware Version: 5.6
Wireless Security : Not currently enabled
    Wireless Channel : 1 (automatic)
    Built in modem : No
    Prod # : M8930LL/A (A-1034)

    Hi guys,
Recently I bought AirPort Extreme 802.11n Base Station (Gigabit, MB053LL/A), and
seems, I have very similar problem with yours. Internet connection from my ISP over WAN is dropped after few hours of being idle. The router successfully receives its IP settings from provider's DHCP, eveyithing is working fine at first and as long as I have some inet activity. Then I disconnect, or sleep my laptops, and when I'm back - WAN provides no Internet traffic at all It looks like WAN is not functioning or blocked in someway. AirPort Utility and logs show no problems, all statuses are good, correct WAN IP settings are shown in the utility.
Sometimes it helps to plug-out/in Ethernet cable to WAN port, but more often only full router restart helps (with around 10-20 secs of outage). BTW, WiFi connection between the router and laptops is pretty stable and causes absolutely no probs. HDD connected to the router works good also.
My firmware is 7.2.1 (gigabit), and reading above posts I tried to downgrade to 7.2. It didn't fix the problem So well there are no earlier firmware versions for this AEBS model to try.
Does anybody have ideas about it?
(I understand you guys mostly wrote about 100Mbit version of AEBS)
    Thanks you,
    Strim

  • 802.1p vlan on pppoe

    Hi guys,
    i'm a little bit stuck on my internet-firewall (old ultra 5, sol10).
The machine did very well serveral years now, yesterday I got a new line (VDSL2). So I connected the new modem and got a link - like presumed. The dial-in-identification didn't change, but I can't connect via pppoe :( After googling around, it seems that I need to set the interface into VLAN7 (802.1p ID-TAG). I didn't find any hint how to configure this. For the moment sppp is mapped to HME1, QFE is also available.
Has anyone a little hint to the right direction?
    thanks
    Ralf

    Thank you for the reply.
Currently I believe the source and destinations are within the same switch so no trunkports should be doing the COS rewrites. I have thought about the default DSCP-COS maps possibly rewriting the values but as you see in the QOS config (which is very basic) that should not be happening.
Here are the global QOS config.
    mls qos
no mls qos rewrite ip dscp
Tonight I will be verifying that the VLAN ID assignment form the server matches the voice VLAN ID. Also I am going to ask my co-worker (server guy) to let the vlan assignments and COS tags come from the switch as opposed to the server.
I look forward to more input!
    Thanks!

  • Srp521w voip ports with no wan connected

    Hello.
I need some help. I am trying to connect my voice ports to my SIP server but is not working.
I have a lot of this same srp521 working all arround perfectly, except that they are connected to mpls via Wan.
In this new workaround, i want the router to act as a AP and to have those 2 voip ports working with the router connected just to the lan of my network, no wan connection, but it seems to be a problem on this that.
Is it possible to have the voip ports working on just with a lan connection?
    Thanks, best regards.

    Hi EveryoneI
created an etherchannel on two ports (2960 switch) and placed them into
an etherchannel.  Did the same on the other switch Cisco 3020 blade
chassis switch.  Without connecting any cables the 2960 had done an
up/down sequence as though a cable had been connected and yet this had
not been done.  Can someone try and help with what could be the
technical explanation of this interesting phenomena.  the etherchannel
was a trunk and the ports were sitting in vlan 200 and this vlan was
also configured as the native vlan for the trunk. Please,  please help - any comment is appreciated.Sydney
    Hi Sydney,
It can be possible that speed and duplex setting between the switches are not in sync. Configure all interfaces in an EtherChannel to operate at the same speeds and duplex modes.Enable all interfaces in an EtherChannel. If you shut down an interface in an EtherChannel, it is treated as a link failure, and its traffic is transferred to one of the remaining interfaces in the EtherChannel.
    For EtherChannels:
–Assign all interfaces in the EtherChannel to the same VLAN, or configure them as trunks.
–If you configure an EtherChannel from trunk interfaces, verify that the trunking mode (802.1Q) is the same on all the trunks. Inconsistent trunk modes on EtherChannel interfaces can have unexpected results.
–An EtherChannel supports the same allowed range of VLANs on all the interfaces in a trunking Layer 2
    Hope to help

  • ISA550, ISP VLAN tagging?

    Hi,
Just purchased an ISA550 to replace the ISP's router. I've been told that they use VLAN 101 for internet traffic. My public IP address is allocated from ISP's DHCP server.
So I need to configure WAN1 for VLAN 101, but since I don't have the IP address/subnet how do I configure the IP setting for WAN/VLAN 101?

    Hi Wei,
That requires username/password, which isn't needed. It's a regular Ethernet WAN connection with VLAN tagging. The ISP provides triple-play this way. Their Sagem routers supports it out-of-the-box

  • VLAN Tagging ESW-540 and 3750g

    Hi everyone!
I'm a self taught cisco type person who really specialises in ASA rather than routers, but have fumbled my way through many a task with the help of this site and google... However!  I am currently tasked with setting up a network, pretty much from scratch, that requires some fairly hefty VLAN deployment.
My hardware on hand (already existed so can't can't change anything easily) 5x ESW-540-48 Switches, 1x3750g switch, 1x2811 router.
I don't believe the router should be required as the 3750 is capable of intervlan routing.  So what i'm trying to achieve is as follows:
    VLAN 1 - 172.16.8.0/22 (A)
    VLAN 2 - 10.0.2.0/24     (B)
    VLAN 3 - 10.0.3.0/24     (C)
    VLAN 4 - 10.0.4.0/24     (D)
    VLAN 5 - 10.0.5.0/24     (E)
    VLAN 6 - 10.0.6.0/24     (F)
    VLAN 7 - 10.0.7.0/24     (G)
    VLAN 8 - 10.0.8.0/24     (H)
    VLAN 9 - 10.0.9.0/24     (I)
Server Room - Servers connected to the 3750G
3750G connected to 5 ESW switches distributed around the building.
ESW-1 Will have VLAN(A) and VLAN(B) devices connected, specified at port level.
ESW-2 Will have VLAN(A) and (C) devices connected, specified at port level.
ESW-3 Will have VLAN(A), (D), (E) and (F) devices connected, specified at port level.
ESW-4 Will have VLAN(A), (G) devices connected specified at port level.
ESW-5 Will have VLAN(A), (H) and (I) devices connected, specified at port level.
Now at one point I actually had the VLAN's *working* in that I could specify an IP address and could ping to and from it!  However DHCP wasn't passing despite numerous attempts with DHCP relay and IP-Helper configurations.
Also I was having issues with VLAN 1 as the native VLAN, the ESW switches don't allow you to do much with them, as they 'weren't created by the user'.  So tried switching that out to VLAN11 also but with very little success there (I had to change the native vlan on all trunks to VLAN 11)
All the 10.x.x.x addresses need to be able to communicate with each other
All the ESW switches need to be able to handle their respective VLAN's as well as VLAN 1 (for Printers and wireless access points distributed around the building).
Partly i'm doing this in the hope that maybe some helpful soul can make some sense of it, but also just the fact of writing it down MAY firm it up in my head somewhat
    Thanks in advance!
    Simon

Ok so - i gave up at 2am this morning, and going back to it with a fresh head!  Here's the situation as it has unfolded...
I have configured up 4 of my vlans for the purpose of testing, so you'll note there are a few missing.
I have moved the Native to VLAN 11 because the ESW's were doing  something weird, and wouldn't allow me to do anything with trunking...  If anyone can see a MUCH easier way of doing this, please feel free to  chime in!
Primarily my question though is - why isn't  DHCP working?  Do I need to configure DHCP relaying on the ESW  switches?  Or should the DHCP REQ be passed across the entire vlan back  to the 3750 regardless.  And if I do need to configure relaying on the  ESW - how?
In my server room I have a 3750 and a bunch of servers.
One of these servers - 172.17.10.229 is a win 2k3 dhcp server (physical not virtualised)
On my dhcp server I have configured scopes for each vlan (not superscoped)
My servers are sitting on the first 16 ports of said 3750.  I have set their ports to native vlan 11 and allow vlans 1-3 and 11.
My ESW switches are on ports 46, 47 and 48.  Likewise, their native has been moved to vlan11 and allowed vlans 1-3 and 11.
My ESW switches have been moved to native vlan11 and trunked each of their port 48's to allow all vlans.
Test 1:  Unmodified port #10 on ESW1 (default vlan 11).
    Connect DHCP device.
IP address assigned from vlan 11: 172.17.10.101.
Can ping all VLAN interface addresses.
    Test 2: Modified port #11 on ESW1 (VLAN 2).
    Connect DHCP device.
    No IP address assigned.
    Set static IP address 10.0.2.55/24.
Can ping all VLAN interfaces, DHCP server, entire network.
Change IP address of test device to 172.17.10.102 for testing.
No ICMP responses from anywhere - this is good!
So as you can see i've done my homework - well most of it obviously.  Because it still isn't working
Here's  the config of the 3750, the ESWs of course are a bit harder to just  post my config, but the general state is something like this...
    ESW Switch 1
    Native VLAN 11
    IP Address:     172.17.8.101 255.255.252.0
    Default Gateway:     172.17.8.253
    Port 48 802.1q trunk - allowed VLAN's 1-3 (tagged), 11 (untagged)
    ESW Switch 2
    Native VLAN 11
    IP Address:     172.17.8.102 255.255.252.0
    Default Gateway:     172.17.8.253
    Port 48 802.1q trunk - allowed VLAN's 1-3 (tagged), 11 (untagged)
    ESW Switch 3
    Native VLAN 11

  • Vlan tagging on VIC 1225

    Hi Community
We are currently Setting up a c240 standalone Server, installed with a vic1225 (connected to a nexus 5500 vpc pair).
We have bare metal windows 2008 R2 os installed and enabled nic teaming ((802.3ad) with the enictool.
Now we want to setup vlan tagged nics in windows but there is no Way to do this....
Is this generally possible in windows 2008 Server ?
Thx in Advance for any tips.

    Hello,
ENIC driver for W2K8 does not support VLAN dot 1q feature.
With W2K12, the native teaming driver from Windows tagging feature.
    Alternate options are
    1) Implement Adapter FEX
    2) If you are planning to run Hyper-V on the host, then it can tag the VLANs.
    3) Implement individual vNICs for each VLAN and configure active / active transmit load balancing on the host. Also, configure the switch ports as individual links allowing necessary vlans and do not them as port-channel / vPC
I recommend you to upgrade the firmware and drivers to latest version to eliminate known issues.
    Padma
