802.1X getting a password prompt

Okay something is still broken in 10.6.7 with 802.1X authentication.  I sometimes never get a loging/password prompt from OSX eventhough in the user profile I have "prompt for password" checked.  Just today I enabled my wireless and waited for the password/login prompt But never received one.  My password is dependent on RSA token and a new number provided every minute.  I figured out that my account was locked out from OSX trying my previous password and therefore incorrect.  I have "prompt for password" checked so this behavoir from OSX never should have happened.  After numerous tries of disabling the wireless and re-enabling and removing my user profile associated with the wireless network I am attempting to access - I finally received a password/login prompt from OSX.  This process should be seamless and there should not be a lock out based on OSX sending stale password information.   the auth method I am using is WPA enterprise.  How can I put a recommendation to apple to get this working properly.  we are on 10.6.x now - thats years of revisions and 802.1X auth is still not working well on all occassions.

It depends on where you imported your signing certificate. On Windows if you place it in the Windows Store it by default remembers the password and does not ask again. In the process of importing signing certificate into the Windows Store you can select an option to ask you the password always. If you imported your signing certificate into the Acrobat Store, you can control how often you're asked the password.
1. Go to Edit->Preferences->Signatures->Identities&Trusted Certificates->More and select Digital IDs. "Storage Mechanism" column shows you where your signing certificate is stored.
2. If it is stored as a "Digital ID file" select "Digital ID Files" and click on the file that contains your signing certificate. There is "Password Timeout" tab on the top of the right panel. When you click it it will ask you for teh password and then present several options that control how often Acrobat/Reader asks you for the password when you sign.
This is the same in Acrobat and Reader.

  • When I open the browser I get 2 password prompts. How do I stop this?

Since updating to the current version of Firefox (3.6.10), the password prompt has moved to the top right of the screen instead of the center, and I get 2 prompts. I can close the first and enter the password into the second for the browser to start, or enter the password twice.
Is there any way to rectify this?

Sometimes when I go to sign a document, the password box is missing. I'm using Acrobat Pro XI (not Reader). The password box is typically there the first time we sign it, and then after that it sometimes disappears. Once it disappears, it doesn't show up again. help please!

  • Ssh slow to get password prompt

I have noticed on my MBP that when I ssh to any server I have to wait up to and sometimes over a minute to get the password prompt. Whether I use the fqdn or the IP the results are the same.
I have searched the forums and have not found anything that appears to address this.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks in advance.

I thought of that last night right after I posted but didn't get back to put up the information. It looks to me like it is waiting for a response from from this line:
"debug2: we sent a gssapi-with-mic packet, wait for reply"
then after about 1 minute it follows with the rest of the debug messages and prompts for my password.
    Any thoughts?

  • Exchange 2003 - Continous password prompts in Outlook 2010

    Hi.
A customer is experiencing continous password prompts in Outlook 2010. Outlook is configured against the Exchange 2003 BE server (FQDN) and Outlook Anywhere is configured to sync.customer.com with a valid 3rd party certificate.
Outlook is configured with Negotitate as Logon network security, setting this to basic/NTLM does not help. Connect to Microsoft Exchange using HTTP is set and configured with sync.customer.com, and msstd:sync.customer.com. All points checked except "On
fast networks, connect using HTTP first, then connect using TCP/IP", authentication is set to Basic. Changing authentication from Basic to NTLM seem to make the problem vanish.
Outlook Anywhere is functioning correctly and only prompting once for password when connecting from an external network. ISA is not configured for NTLM/Kerberos.
Exchange 2003 is located in main site in a resource domain. The prompts occur more often in two remote sites than the main site.
When opening Outlook RPCDiag shows established connection to BE and Active Directory, sometimes with prompt and sometimes without. After about 5 minutes the prompt may reappear, entering password does not remove the prompt, clicking cancel puts Outlook in
the "Need password" state, clicking this usually successfully connect Outlook to Exchange. Other times this just cause the prompt to reappear.
I´ve tried adding the internal and/or external IP address of the ISA server as sync.customer.com in the host-file on a client and forcing RPC/HTTPS through the DisableRpcTcpFallback, still getting the password prompts.
We have also been through the KB975363, changing the MaxConcurrentAPI on all domain controllers.
Finally, we know Exchange 2003 is in a unsupported state so there is no need to comment this.

    Hi,
Firstly, I'd like to explian, basic authentication requires the user to enter domain, user name, and password. Thus, it's an expected behavior that the credential prompts once when the authentication is set to basic and it disappears when it's NTLM authentication:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa996225(v=exchg.65).aspx
For the issue that the credential keeps prompting, I'd like to confirm if Outlook 2003 works well. If yes, you can refer to the following article:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927612/en-us
If all outlook clients prompt credential, you can check the RPC over HTTP connectivity by ExRCA:

  • How can I mount an encrypted image automatically and get a password window

    Hello
I know how to mount an encrypted image automatically when I login and get myself a password window.  (I actually how I did it at the moment though).  I had a cronjob log me out at say 5am every day and I force myself to login everyday.
Now I have a need to keep the login session forever.  I would therefore like to mount the image automatically at a specified time daily and get the same window prompt.  If do it from a bash prompt with 'hdiutil attach /path' I am getting a password prompt at the bash instead of a password windows.  I am thinking of putting that command in cronjob.
What must I do to get a password window automagically?  If doing it via cronjob is wrong, I am open to other proper Mac way.
    Thanks
    mr.wu

You can use Automator and iCal. Use Automator's Run Shell Sript action and enter hdiutil attach /path. Save the workflow as an iCal plugin. Set iCal to run the workflow when you want. You can also save the workflow as an application, and set up an iCal alarm to run that application at a specified time.

  • Need MBAM 2.5 Helpdesk and selfservice sites to open for authenticated users with no password prompt

I Need MBAM 2.5 Helpdesk and self service sites to open for authenticated users with no password prompt. I just cant seem to get this to work. The account used in the application pool has its SPN registered and delegation set. I can use that account to login
to the sites but am prompted for a password. That said anyone I add into the helpdesk users group cannot negotiate the sites. Only the account I have set in the application pool can. I want domain authenticated users that have been added to the MBAM Help Desk
Users group to negotiate the site with NO password challenge at all.
    tconners

This generally means that your SPN is not set up correctly.  Let's say the web server you installed the SSP on is lance.contoso.com and your app pool creds are corp\lance.  You should set an SPN similar to setspn -s http/lance.contoso.com
corp\lance.  In your browser, you should now be able to access the SSP without prompts.  However, if you still get prompted, generally that means that your local intranet zone in IE does not have an entry for *.contoso.com.  Since you are entering
an FQDN in your browser, IE interprets the "." to mean "on the internet" which breaks Kerberos authentication.  By adding *.contoso.com to your local intranet zone, you are telling it that lance.contoso.com is on the intranet, so use
    Kerberos.
I can confirm, that I have exact configuration and I always get the password promt for the very first time. We have 2 server (1xIIS and 1xSQL) infrastructure in production with SPN set like it should and I get the password prompt.

  • Time Machine multiple password prompts after 10.5.6 upgrade

Wanted to see if anybody else has noticed this behavior change since upgrading to 10.5.6. I back my MacBook Pro to a network drive shared from my Mac Mini. With 10.5.5 and earlier, I'd mount the network drive, and then set Time Machine to use it. I'd get one password prompt, for the initial mount of the network drive.
Post-10.5.6, I mount the network drive (password prompt #1), and then tell Time Machine to use that drive, and I get another password prompt from Time Machine. I'm not sure why this is, and it seems like a behavior change. Has anybody else noticed these double password prompts after going to 10.5.6?
    --Bernie

I have the exact same problem since upgrading to 10.5.6. The time machine arrows start spinning, and then stop with the exclamation point. I look at the dropdown and it says "Latest Backup: Delayed"
When I open Time Machine Preferences, it tells me I have 32.2 GB of 232.7 GB available. And in latest backup, it says "Failed" with the little "i" in the circle. When I click the "i" it tells me "The backup volume could not be mounted."
When I actually look at the contents of the drive (which definitely is mounted) I see a 200GB file (the correct size) named [name of my computer]_[some serial number].sparsebundle. The stuff in brackets is replaced since I don't know if that's the sort of thing that I should post.
What seems odd (although I haven't looked at the volume enough in the past to know if it is odd), is that both the modified date and the creation date are March 27, 2008 which, I believe, is when I first started using time machine.
The only other thing on that drive is a folder, "untitled folder"
That's it. I'm not sure about whether it's trying to backup when not connected, but I think I remember that.
Do these specifics fit with what you can see about the current state of your backup?

  • Exchange 2013 - External Windows XP/Outlook 2007 Password Prompt

I have an Exchange 2013 server and everything is working correctly internal with XP clients that are connected to the domain.  My problem is that the Windows XP computers that are connecting from outside of the office that aren't connected to the domain
and have local usernames and passwords keep getting the password prompts.  I put in the correct domain\username and password and it connects.  The if I close and reopen it asks me for the password, I have saved the credentials but it still asks.
I have look and applied these settings from these articles but I'm still having the issue.  All of the internal and external names match my GoDaddy SSL certificate (mail.domain.com). Get-OutlookAnywhere shows:

  • Outlook password prompt for mailboxes on Exchange 2013 CU1

I migrated a few users from our Exchange 2007 SP3 Update 10 server to Exchange 2013 CU1. Now in Outlook they are getting a password prompt, and it won't accept their password. Our public folders are still on Exchange 2007 if that makes a difference.
    I tried running
         Test-OutlookConnectivity -GetDefaultsFromAutoDiscover:$true
but it says it doesn't recognize the parameter -GetDefaultsFromAutoDiscover:$true
    Here's the values for Get-OutlookAnywhere:
    ExternalHostname                   : legacy.domain.com
    InternalHostname                   :
    ExternalClientAuthenticationMethod : Ntlm
    InternalClientAuthenticationMethod : Ntlm
    IISAuthenticationMethods           : {Ntlm}
    ExternalHostname                   : mail.domain.com
    InternalHostname                   : clippers.domain.local
    ExternalClientAuthenticationMethod : Negotiate
    InternalClientAuthenticationMethod : Negotiate
    IISAuthenticationMethods           : {Negotiate}

    Hi GraffitiK
How is your test? Did the issue resolve?

  • Outlook 2013 password prompts

When I'm using Outlook 2013 client from home laptop (not joined to domain)I get random password prompts saying connecting to [email protected] I just close them all (9 prompts) and I can continue to use Outlook normally. Outlook doesn't accept
any credentials to those prompts. Our Exchange server is 2010. How can I trace what is causing those prompts?

    Hi
Check your credential manager for any old passwords. Is this an exchange or pop account? Try changing your authentication method in outlook to use basic instead of NTLM and see if the popups disappear.
Hope this helps. Please remember to click “Mark as Answer” on the post that helps you, and to click “Unmark as Answer” if a marked post does not actually answer your question. This can be beneficial to other community members reading the thread.

  • Outlook Password Prompts events

Few mailboxes (not many) where reported with outlook password prompt and I'm trying find events related to outlook password prompts..
Need help on, where to find the event logs related to outlook password prompt.. Do I need to configure any perform or new captures to captures those events ?

    Hi,
I'n my experience this can be cause by additional mailboxes mapped to the account.
On the client that is experience the password prompt, right click on the Outlook icon in the bottom right while holding shift. Then select Connection status. You should be able to see the connections to the exchange.
Check is there is any connection that is in the state connecting when you get the password prompt. The Type will tell you what kind of connection this is and if it's an additional mailbox or mapping.
When a user has full permissions to an mailbox it is automatically mapped to the user.
You can disable this if wanted.

  • IPAD NO WIRELESS PASSWORD PROMPT

My wife's Ipad 1 will not allow for a password to be entered when joining a wireless network.  Only the "Couldn't Join" message and a dismiss option.  How can I get a password prompt?

Does the network you're trying to join show a little lock icon beside it, indicating that a password is required? If not, then no p/w is required for it, which is the good answer for you, or there might some issue with the network itself, which you can do nothing about on your end.
If it does, then I think you must have some iOS issue going on, assuming that you have the same issue on other networks that show the lock icon. In that case I'd try the below things in more or less the stated order. Check and see if any step fixes your problem and, if it does, don't continue. First,
    a. Try simply powering the iPad down (press and hold Sleep/Wake, then slide the red slider, etc.) and back on, see if the situation persists. If it does, then
    b. Cycle various settings in Settings > General > Wifi and > Networks, seeing is you can make whatever is latched up unlatch itself. This will sometimes help.
    c. Try going to Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
    d. Try a Reset (System or Forced) by pressing and holding both the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons for about 10 seconds. Ignore the red slider when it appears, then when you see the white Apple logo appear on the blank screen you can release the buttons and allow a normal boot up to proceed.
If still no luck at that point, you may have little left to try except for a fresh load of iOS and restoring from a backup.

  • Can I get the "Remember Password" prompt back

I searched an found almost the same question, but not quite.
Even though I probably shouldn't I have been letting FF remember my passwords to a lot of websites that don't really matter . . . including a couple of "junk" freemail accounts that I use for newsletters and spam magnets.
FF stopped remembering the password to one of my Yahoo accounts even though it still offers up the pw for the other one. Since security isn't really an issue with these and the convenience is awfully nice, is there a way to get the remember prompt back for the one account?
    Thanks

The Yahoo log in website is using autocomplete=off to prevent Firefox from saving form data like name and password.
You can remove autocomplete=off with a bookmarklet to make Firefox store form data like names and passwords.
Note that Firefox won't auto-fill saved form data automatically when autocomplete=off is used, so you need to double-click the empty name field to get a drop-down list.

    from this support article:

Simply follow the link in the verification email that says "Verify Now." Sign in with your current Apple ID and password, then click Verify Address. You can also verify by signing in at My Apple ID.
