8120 Media Sync - "Your device is not recognized by Blackberry Media Sync"
I got a new (refurbished from ebay) Pearl 8120. I just downloaded the newest Desktop Manager and Media Sync software. The Desktop Manager works fine with the Pearl. The 8GB microSDHC card was formatted and has worked fine in the phone so far. However, when I try to use the Media Sync software, I get this error:
"Your device is not recognized by Blackberry Media Sync. Please check that
(1) a memory card is installed correctly in your Blackberry device
(2) mass storage mode is turned on for your blackberry device."
I have checked both these things. I have tried running the program in XP compatibility mode and as administrator. Also, my computer doesn't recognize the phone as a mass storage device (is it supposed to?). I can always use my card reader to put files on my card, but I'd like to be able to use the Media Sync software.
My OS is version 4.5.0.124
edit: Now it sometimes tells me "You need to turn on mass storage mode from the connected Blackberry Device and click Retry. This may require you to reconnect your device."
In my settings I have Mass Storage Mode Support: On. Auto Enable Mass Storage Mode When Connected: Yes.
I've reconnected the device and everything. I've reloaded the card and restarted the phone. Media Sync still gives me errors and Windows still doesn't see the phone as a mass storage device.
Hi, a simple solution is to take out humbly your previous phone from the closet (or thrashbin), put the microSD card into it and connect it to PC again. And you thought you would never use it again once you have that "awesome" Blackberry... :-)
I did this with my Nokia 6120. Also works with any standard microSD reader.

Media Sync 3.0 does not recognized my device
I have a Blackberry 8330 with a media card installed, 4GB. I started my Blackberry Desktop and allowed it to update to the latest version, 5.01. I have used the Media sync in the past but not in a long time. When I started the Media sync it asked to install and I did. It tries to connect to my phone but I get the following error;
Your device in not recognized by Blackberry Media Sync. Please check that:
1. a media card is installed correctlyin your Blackberry device.
2. mass storagemode is turned onfor your Blackberry device.
There is a media card installed correctly on my device and mass storage is turned on and Auto enable Mass Storage Mode when connected is turned on as well.
The software version on my device is v4.5.0.138 (Platform 3.4.0.30)

First attempt after increasing log level -- again it hangs after I input the device password. I'm not sure what you mean by "attempt to load from WMP" -- presumably that would be some menu or button on the sync app, but since it hangs before I get there I can't try it. After waiting a while, I used the systray "safely remove hardware" utility and then pulled the BB from the USB.

Read some threads. Managed a cumbersome workaround by using Roxio to take songs from CD and transfer to MP3 format. Then using Explorer to drop into media card. Spent hours trying to figure out. Since I'm not very tech savvy, REALLY appreciate your help. Because I can't get any files from my PC to work. How I can convert WMA. WPL XLS DOC files so my BB can read them? when I plug my iPhone in to my computer, iTunes doesn't recognize it as a device. I have deleted and re-downloaded iTunes twice which seems to fix the problem temporarily but then the next time I plug my phone in, the device is not recognized.
What happens if you go to iTunes > File > Devices, do you get the option to Sync iPhone?

My 120GB IPod classic is not recognized by my Windows 7 PC. When I plug the ipod into my computer I receive a message saying that the USD device is not recognized. The Device Manager lists it as an Unknown Device. I've tried uninstalling iTunes and reinstalling it, but it had no affect. The odd thing is that our other iPod (160 GB Classic) is recognized on the same computer using the same USB cable. When I plug the ipod in question into another PC, the PC seems to recognize the iPod and lists it in Windows Explorer (iTunes is not installed on this machine). There seems to be something out of wack with this PC/iPod combo. Any thoughts on what I can do to try to resolve this issue? My ipad is not being seen by itunes in Windows 7. I uninstalled then reinstalled itunes it started working for a while then it stopped. I get a message stating that the device is not recognized or the device is defective replace device. Anyone have a fix.
At present I have no power to the Gen 7, so need to get some power to it I think. I pressed the buttons as you suggested, but nothing is showing up at this point. Thank you for your response as the more I can rule out before I take it back the better I think.

I have a new IPod Nano and when trying to connect to my PC for the first time I get a fault message that says the "USB Device is not recognized by my computer. I have several other IPod devices and have never had this problem. When I go to windows explorer, the device does not show at all, so I cannot manually open it.

Trying to change ownership of my old iPod. The advice here is to go to "Devices">"Summary">"Restore", but I find "Devices" does not offer "Restore" but only "Sync", "Transfer", "Backup", and a greyed "Restore from backup."
What I don't understand is that your iTunes looks different from mine--just a little bit. You have 3 circles, red, yellow, and green, in the upper right end of the top bar. INstead I have a square that is half gray. When I click it, I get a menu very similar to the menu under "File."
The only place I see an entry for "Devices" is under "File," but it only gives the 4 options I mentioned before (see below). There is no "Summary."
Here's another screen shot after I added an album to music. Now all the choices under "Devices" are grayed. -

I do the same that is instructed in "If you have never synced your device with iTunes ".Everything works fine and itunes start restoring it and updating my ipad.But after 5 mints , same error again appears on itune screen.And also ipad goes into same disabled postion.What should i do ? Somebody help please.

Recently, iTunes upgraded. My 7th generation iPod is now not recognized and I cannot sync. The troubleshooting talks about being visible in Windows (iPod is invisible) No other options and nothing about windows 8
I have had similar issues with mine, happens mainly if I transfer songs and then decide to disconnect my iPod to listen to them with my IEMs (I use Interenet Explorer in my case and it is not neccessarely up when this happens, so I seriously doubt it is an issue conencted to the web browser). I have no patience for this so my trick is I try to eject it from iTunes, if that does not work, then I bring Windows explorer up, right mouse click on the iPod mounted drive and select Eject. It gives me the same warning but there is a third button selection called Continue. When I choose that it just disconnets the drive anyway and the iPod is finally disconnected. It seems to work each and every time I do it so this solution is fine for me. Would be intersting to see what the real root cause of this is because I started getting this problem with the newer iTunes 11.
