8900 & Replace Battery Connector

I bought a secondhand blackberry but even though i know the battery has a full charge (it works in a friends), my BB just displays a battery icon with a red line through it.
I've noticed that the battery connector terminal in the phone is crooked and one of the pins is bent and the 4 pins are definitely not aligned.
I beleive that i need to prise off the old connector and simply solder a new one is - is that all??
Has anyone done this before and can offer any advice please?
Thanks

I jsut spilled coffee on mine and I have the same problem, everything works, but the battery won't be recognized (I get a x battery icon).
bEsides that all works fine, the computer won't boot without AC, but once itS' working I can work on it without it being plugged onto the AC. It uses the battery power. It's kind of weird. Did yours do that too, or was it only capable of operating when plugged in?

  • Just replaced battery connector with sleep switch, still black X

Alright, genius bar checked out battery, good. I reset the SMC, made sure the power firmware was up to date, good. Genius bar said the battery connector switch needed to be replaced. Just replaced the switch with the exact same results....
Upon AC power connection the light runs amber, after Mac boots battery menu bar shows (calculating) for about one minute and then charger turns to green and there is the infamous black X. In the System Profiler is shows "battery not connected". The Mac runs fine on AC power but I need mobility!!! Please somebody throw me a good idea to attack next. This is very frustrating. Macbook is out of warranty, Applecare, and the battery is not on a recall list.

Thanks for the reply. I am already running 10.4.11, and my battery is updated to the 1.3 update. Upon booting the Mac it only say ..(calculating) in the menu bar for about 1 minute and then turns to the black X. I have already tried resetting the SMC multiple times. The battery was charged for a good hour on another Macbook so it was not on rock bottom. I am still at a loss??

  • Replacement battery not working properly

    Hello,
I have a G72 Notebook and I just recently bought a replacement battery that is not working properly.
I think that the laptop is just not able to communicate with the battery to find out how much power it has left.
I'm pretty sure that the battery is taking charge just fine (although the icon says, "plugged in, not charging" because I used it for a couple hours today and it never changed from "41%".
Right now it says "0%" but continues to power my computer if I unplug it.
I've tried cleaning the connectors and I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the battery driver.
My old battery still charges just fine and works perfectly it just doesn't last more than an hour or so.
I ordered the replacement battery that it listed on my old battery, but it seems to not snap in quite right.
It fits in my computer, it just isn't as smooth to snap in as my old one is.  As far as I can tell it's exactly the same except I think some of the little plastic parts have slightly different sizes.
    Thanks for any help!

  • Replacing battery in 3g

I have a IP 3G with a battery that does not hold a charge very long, even with the phone turned off. I watched a video of how to replace the battery and due to the small workspace, I don't want to try it myself. I saw an ad on the internet for $39 to install a replacement battery.  I'm wondering how others are dealing with this problem?  Does an Apple store provide this service?

I just did this yesterday on two 3g ipods. It is pretty easy to do. The hardest part is opening the case but the supplied plastic tools help and keep from marring the case. Be careful when fully opening the case--there's a ribbon cable at the top you have to be aware of and not break. The hard drive flips up to reveal the connector which pops off with a fingernail. Then just simply disconnect the battery connector and lift the battery out. Pop in the new battery and reconnect the power (red wire towards the ipod's dock connector). Reconnecting the small hard drive connector with my fat fingers took a couple of tries but eventually popped into place. Carefully put the back on and snap it together--done. Took me about 10 minutes for the first one and 5 for the second. There's a good video [here|http://eshop.macsales.com/tech_center/index.cfm?page=Video/ipod/3g/high.h tml] of the process.

  • GE 31591 replacement battery

I bought the GE 31591GE1 phone a year ago. Battery no longer holds a charge. GE does not support the phone-no battery replacements available. Yet Skype still sells this SAME phone.
So is this a gimmick? The battery dies so I have to buy a new phone?
I know Skype's standard answer - contact the manufacturer - I have, no response yet.
My question is WHY is Skype selling a phone which appears to have no way to get a replacement battery? This is not a good business practice to have a "Skype certified" partner that does not support hardware and to sell that hardware on the Skype site. Makes for an unhappy customer, may have to go to another VOIP provider unless Skype works on this issue.

I have run into my own problems with manufacturers not providing basic replacement parts.  Luckily batteries are not too hard to come by even if not official replacements.
    1. To start if you're electronically inclined the proprietary battery appears to be nothing more than 2 1.2 Volt NIMH AA batteries put in series (2.4 Volts).   If you purchased 2 batteries and soldered them together in the same manner with the connector (then wrapped them in non-conductive electrical tape) you should have a very high quality inexpensive replacement battery.
    2.  The easier solution would be to purchase a generic replacement battery.  If you do a web search for "GE 31591 battery" you should find some.    The average prices seems to be $7.50. If  you want a wider selection you can also search for batteries by other vendors using the same part.

  • Replacing dock connector?

I have a 3g ipod. It's getting old I guess but it's not so bad. I just replaced the battery today so it should have a new life but I have a problem with my dock connector. It won't charge or sync anymore. I tried a different cable with no result so I'm sure it's a problem in the ipod itself. I think maybe if I could clean it out it might help but I don't know what to clean it with. Otherwise is there a way to replace broken connectors? I'm in China so nowhere near an Apple store. I tried searching around online but couldn't find anything. I know it is probably time to just put it to rest but I like nurturing old electronics back to life. Any advice would be useful. Thanks.

I ended up buying a new mainboard for it.

  • Need instructions for replacing battery

    Hey, all.
The "Replace Battery" light is lit on my ONT, and it is (of course) doing that annoying beeping noise.
Since the only way to permanently stop the beeping is to disconnect the battery, I'd like to do that.  Unfortunately, none of the instructions I've seen online, or gotten from Verizon customer service, have applied to my specific ONT model.
I have a Motorola ONT1000GJ2  (Yes, GJ, not GT, I've checked repeatedly).  I *think* the battery is in the upper section of the housing, but I cannot, for the life of me, figure out how to get to it.
If anyone has achieved this blessed state of affairs of actually getting to this battery, could you be so kind as to fill me in on how?
    Thanks in advance!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I am providing my own answer to this question, as the community didn't come up with an answer, and Verizon customer "service" (and I use the term extremely loosely in this regard) was the exact opposite of helpful.
Looking at the picture above, on the far right-hand side, there are two recessed hex-screws, one above the other.  To access the battery compartment on this particular model, leave the lower screw tightened, and loosen the upper screw.  Don't worry about it falling out: I'm pretty sure it's a "captive" screw, and so cannot be fully removed.
Once you have the screw loosened, pull outward on the upper right corner of the box.  You may have to lift up at the same time, if it hangs up on you.  (In order to lift up on it, put a finger or thumb in the screw's recess, and push upward).  Continue to jiggle and pull, and eventually the stupid thing will come open.  Once you've got it open, removing the battery and then the battery clips is the same as in the videos they've provided:  Pull back the tabs to slip the battery out, and then wiggle the connectors off the battery posts.
WARNING:  The battery is several pounds in weight, and the wires are not all that long.  If you have to stretch to get to your unit like I do (mine is mounted above my washer/dryer), you will benefit from a helper, so they can hold the battery while you remove the battery connectors.  I know I struggled a bit trying to do it alone.
Thanks to those who attempted to help me.  I hope this is able to help someone else in the future.
Oh, and one more piece of info:  Verizon "customer service" will repeatedly tell you the only official way to make the unit stop beeping is to replace the defective battery with a new one.  They have to utter the word "official", because otherwise, you can accuse them (accurately) of lying.  The unit will stop beeping as soon as you disconnect the old battery.  They, of course, want you to spend $30+ buying a new battery from them, so they will not tell you this.  If, like me, you have no desire to replace the battery, rest assured, the unit will stop annoying you once you've got the old battery out of it.  The "Replace Battery" light will remain on, but the audible warnings will end.

  • Replacing battery in 3g iPod

I have a 40 gig 3g iPod with the original battery. It sill holds a charge but the play time is steadily decreasing. I've done some Google searching for 3rd party battery replacement kits. If you have experience with these kits can you comment? Basically is it as easy as it sounds. I looked at a video and it looks like major surgery.

  • Macbook Battery pinout/ how can it be powered from it's battery connector

    Hi everyone,
I've accidentally spilled water on my macbook and damaged it's power supply section. Apple says the logic board has to be replaced costing more than a new computer. The computer however works perfectly fine using a battery, although it can't charge one. So' I've been trying to power it from the battery connector, measuring the actual voltage a fully charged battery provides and applying it to the corresponding pins on the connector.
Unfortunately nothing happens. I know the battery has an internal micro-controller which communicates with the computer exchanging information about battery status/temp, etc. but I never thought that this communication is essential to power the computer from the battery. So, the next step I tried was dismantling a battery pack, disconnecting the battery cells from the tiny circuit board inside the pack and trying to apply an external voltage there, hoping that the laptop will power up. Still nothing. I' m a bit frustrated here. I really believed this last option would work. Has anybody tried to do something similar with a macbook or even perhaps knows the battery pinout on the connector? ( I have searched the entire net for this with no result).
Any help would be much appreciated as the computer is useless this way..
    Thank you in advance.

    Hello,
I can't answer your question directly, but I think the best solution for you is to buy a new logic board . It is not that expensive if you buy it from here:
(links are for 1st gen macbook)
    http://www.powerbookmedic.com/MacBook-183GHZ-Logic-Board-133-Black-or-White-p-17 001.html
    http://www.ifixit.com/Products/MacBook-13-Inch-2-GHz-Logic-Boards/9/68
I mean, it's expensive, but cheaper than a new macbook, and way cheaper than Apple's official replacement price. Since you are skilled enough to take the battery apart, I'm sure you can replace the logic board yourself.
As for the battery, I agree that the macbook must be able to communicate with its battery to boot from it. Are you making sure that all pins are being used?

  • I ordered a battery for my laptop because it said to replace battery soon.  How long can I let the new battery sit around as I wait for the old one to run out of more charge?

I ordered a battery for my laptop because it said to replace battery soon.  How long can I let the new battery sit around as I wait for the old one to run out of more charge?  Will the new one become less effective if it sits around too long?

How much capacity is remaining on your current battery?
    Check your power status
From the  menu: Hold OPTION and click System Information... èHardware è Power
Copy and Paste in your reply.
The new battery will become less effective if you store it in a hot or humid environment. It should be stored at room temperature (22 C).
    Long term storage (6 months):
Apple recommends that you store the battery with a 50% charge. If you store a battery when it’s fully discharged, it could fall into a deep discharge state, which renders it incapable of holding any charge. Conversely, if you store it fully charged for an extended period of time, the battery may experience some loss of battery capacity, meaning it will have a shorter life.

  • Where can I buy a genuine apple replacement battery (A1309) for my Mid 2010 17" Macbook Pro?

Where can I buy a genuine apple replacement battery (A1309) for my Mid 2010 17" Macbook Pro? There are used batteries on ebay that don't appear genuine. There are some third-party knock offs. The apple store seems to believe they can replace it, but I have to make a reservation at the silly Genius Bar just to have them tell me how much it's gonna cost, not to mention then likely wait for them to order the battery and install it. I'm perfectly capable of installing it myself. I just need to know where I can order it?
    Thanks,
    Andrew

Yeah, that's what I've finally decided. I was kidna super frustrated because the first apple store I called wouldn't even tell me a price or tell me if they could replace the battery without a Genius Bar appointment, and as I would have to take off work and drive acros town--and I don't have a car so I'd have to borrow one--that was pretty annoying. That call left me pricing linux laptops. I called another store to see if I'd have better luck, and the initial answer was the same, but the girl relented under some trying-to-be-nice-but-clearly-annoyed pressure, and she gave me the answers I needed: yes, they should have the battery in stock and it should be a same-day replacement that should cost $179.
It just *****, really, because there's so much about Apple that I used to love, and I'm watching it kinda melt away under their success in the mobile market. As a professional user, there's less and less reason to stick with them. Instead of being the best they can be, I feel like they're just trying to be flashier and just a little better than the other mediocre computer companies. Ugh. Anyway, now I'm ranting.

  • Do I need a new battery connector?

My macbook pro is from 2007. I have a charged battery, which is brand new. My computer recognizes the battery but wont run on it or charge it. I've tried reseting the pram, smc, cleaned contacts on both the charger and the computer. I've also tried a different power cord and that didn't solve the issue. • The replacement battery for Ipod nano true or false

I was tryin to figure out if it was true that you can't replace your battery in an Ipod nano unless you have good sodering skills or unless you send it in and replace it. Because I bought a third party replacement battery for my Ipod Nano, and it gave me the instructions to the normal Ipod. Then I saw a lot of discussion posts saying that you can replace the battery for an Ipod Nano, so I need to know if you can or can't.

    It is possible...
If you Google search for it, you can probably find instructions (with pictures) on how to do it. Basically, you need to use something (such as a tiny flathead screwdriver or a putty knife) to separate the plastic front case from the aluminum back case. Then, you can disconnect the battery that's inside of it and connect your new battery. Most third party iPod batteries recommend charging it completely before first use.
It is, however, easier to send your iPod in for service for a battery issue, and just have them replace your iPod for you.
    http://depot.info.apple.com/ipod/
To my knowledge, you don't need any exceptional soldering skills. I've replaced batteries in some older iPods, and needed nothing but a tiny flathead screwdriver that I use to do general maintenance on my saxophone.
