Just replaced battery connector with sleep switch, still black X

Alright, genius bar checked out battery, good. I reset the SMC, made sure the power firmware was up to date, good. Genius bar said the battery connector switch needed to be replaced. Just replaced the switch with the exact same results....
Upon AC power connection the light runs amber, after Mac boots battery menu bar shows (calculating) for about one minute and then charger turns to green and there is the infamous black X. In the System Profiler is shows "battery not connected". The Mac runs fine on AC power but I need mobility!!! Please somebody throw me a good idea to attack next. This is very frustrating. Macbook is out of warranty, Applecare, and the battery is not on a recall list.

Thanks for the reply. I am already running 10.4.11, and my battery is updated to the 1.3 update. Upon booting the Mac it only say ..(calculating) in the menu bar for about 1 minute and then turns to the black X. I have already tried resetting the SMC multiple times. The battery was charged for a good hour on another Macbook so it was not on rock bottom. I am still at a loss??

  • 8900 & Replace Battery Connector

I bought a secondhand blackberry but even though i know the battery has a full charge (it works in a friends), my BB just displays a battery icon with a red line through it.
I've noticed that the battery connector terminal in the phone is crooked and one of the pins is bent and the 4 pins are definitely not aligned.
I beleive that i need to prise off the old connector and simply solder a new one is - is that all??
Has anyone done this before and can offer any advice please?
    Thanks

I jsut spilled coffee on mine and I have the same problem, everything works, but the battery won't be recognized (I get a x battery icon).
bEsides that all works fine, the computer won't boot without AC, but once itS' working I can work on it without it being plugged onto the AC. It uses the battery power. It's kind of weird. Did yours do that too, or was it only capable of operating when plugged in?

  • Just replaced battery on MBP, and seems that fans run at higher rpm/louder

    Hello all;
Tell me that I'm crazy, but I just replaced my MBP battery with a brand new OEM MBP battery and it seems that the fans are running at 4K rpm constantly now. With my just replace old battery, the fans would stay around 2K rpm.
Is this normal? Seems quite annoying. The older battery is ~1 yr old, and had very poor statistics on life and cycles. I accept the fact that I had to replace, but this fan noise is driving me CRAZY!!!

Hi TooManyApples: It may be an activity using too much of the CPU. Check by going to Applications > Utilities > Activity Monitor. Select CPU at the bottom of the page, sort by CPU column, and be sure to select "All Processes" from the drop down list at the top of the page.
    Hope this helps

  • Replacement battery interferes with display latch

This is a replacement NewerTech battery I bought for my 17" Powerbook. When I received it I sent the original Apple battery back for recycling - bad idea, as it turns out, since the NewerTech battery keeps the display latch from operating. Just putting the forward edge of the battery into place causes the latch to bind ever so slightly so that it stays partially depressed, keeping the lid from staying closed.
I spoke to OWC tech support who said this shouldn't happen, so I sent it in for another, which unfortunately does the same thing. I've sent it back for a third attempt but I'm losing hope.
If the third one doesn't work, I'm thinking of performing some minor surgery on the battery. Specifically, shaving off some material from the two plastic protrusions that project toward the front of the laptop. They don't seem to be required for it to stay in place.
If I remove the battery the display latch works fine. I wish I had the original Apple battery to compare, but it's gone to recycling heaven. I'm pretty sure Apple doesn't make batteries for this Powerbook any more. I'd even prefer a dead battery that allows the case to stay closed over a new one that doesn't.
Yes I have already set pmset lidwake to 0 which helps. I really need the PB to stay closed.
Has anyone run into this problem?

    Apple battery still available:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/M9326G/A?fnode=MTY1NDEwMQ&mco=MTM2ODg
That's the first I've heard of this problem but will admit I've seen very few people here with NT batteries. They seem more common in the older PowerBook forums.
I've had very good product return service from OWC. The only glitch was that I returned a non-functional BT Wallstreet battery they sent and they posted a restocking fee. I called, talked to a very nice lady, and she removed the restocking fee because the part was defective. Keep working with them.

  • Just replaced my nano with the new itouch. Easiest way to re-sync?

    Guys-
I'd like to be able to switch from my Nano to my ipod and simply import all my songs (Apple purchased and cd's and podcasts) from my Nano into my new itouch. What's the easiest way to do this?
Alternatively, can I still keep the same music on both my Nano and my itouch? I mean, I purchased both devices and I purchased my music and it's still on my same pc, right?
Thanks in advance for your help.

    Hello,
You can certainly sync multiple devices to one iTunes library. iTunes should be able to tell the difference between devices, to maintain differences in name, syncing preferences, etc. When you connect the touch, it should behave similarly to the nano, in that you can have iTunes sync everything in the iTunes library to it for you.

  • Just want to replace some video with photos, but LEAVE AUDIO THERE. No way?

Is there no simple way to just replace some video with other video or photos, but not affect audio? I have an interview, and they're talking about places, and I want to put in photos of the places. Pretty basic stuff.
    Thanks for whatever help...

OK, yeah, CUTAWAY. But, I have the audio "purpled". Should it be? And my photo is sitting ABOVE the place where I want it. How do I get it to go down where it's supposed to? I really need a step-by-step here. I see how to manage the duration of the cutaway, but I don't see how to actually get it INTO the track, and how to "un-purple" the audio track.
    Thank you!

  • Replacement battery nightmare (poor service rant)

I just wanted to share a service nightmare I've had with Apple recently.
At the beginning of August, I noticed that the battery for my MacBook Pro was warped, and learned about the battery replacement program. The battery quickly became unusable, and I had to remove it from the laptop. I signed up on August 5 to receive a replacement. DHL Courier contacted me on August 14 to say they had received incomplete shipping information from Apple. They delivered a package to me on August 16, but it turned out to be an incorrect part. Instead of a MBPro battery, I received a PowerBook power adapter. I contacted Apple Care, and they promised to have a new one sent. I waited 3 weeks, it did not arrive. Contaced Apple Care again. They said they had no record of my contacting them. So I ordered yet another replacement battery, for which I am still waiting. Called them on Thursday (Sept. 28) to inquire. Was told they have no visibility into shipments for the battery replacement program, and that I could expect to wait an additional 4-6 week. Told them I needed to use my laptop for an upcoming business trip, could they speed the delivery? They said no, it would not be possible to speed the delivery . I said "thanks for such attentive service". So what did I do? I ordered a battery through the Apple Store, which was delivered to me this morning via FedEx, within 48 hours.
This experience is my first of receiving poor service from Apple, and I'm a little shocked. Anyone else having similar problems?

i have had bad experiences at the apple store because or moron geniuses... i did the battery replacement program and got my new battery in about 15 hours via DHL.
My power cord broke, and i took it to the apple store. asked for replacement covered under warranty. the moron.. i mean genius tells me its not covered and offers to sell me a $150(or so) power adapter. I told him "*** that". I go home, call apple care, they inform me it is covered, and sent me a new adapter in same time... about 15-20 hours via DHL. I LOVE APPLE CARE! HATE THE MORONS AT APPLE STORE WALNUT CREEK.

  • Can I replace the LCD with an LED on Early 2009 24" model?

I have an old 2009 (okay, so not that old) iMac and the LCD has some serious burn-in and it's to the point where I can't use the computer without it hurting my eyes. I'm looking to replace the screen, but the computer still works great and I don't want to have to do this again in four to five years. Any chance I can take an LED display from a 24" Cinema Display and put it in the iMac, or are the connections different?

Personally I would use a Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter, DVI cable and a $130 DVI monitor, before shelling out for a $500 to $600 for a replacement panel. Or at least until your 100% sure, that there is nothing wrong with the logicboard or graphic's chip.
Optionally a Belkin Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Cable would be an even cheaper setup, if you already have an HDMI TV.
Addtitionally I would probably just replace the iMac with another iMac or Mac Mini, because it is real hard to justify spending anything at all on a 5 year old system.

  • Need a replacement battery

    Hello,
I have a macbook unibody aluminum from late 2008. My battery is in a poor state, lasts about an hour and a half tops and is in a "replace soon" condition. I was wondering where I could purchase a replacement battery and how much that would cost me. I seem to have trouble to find these spare parts.
I would be thankful to anyone who is willing to guide me. I am not sure yet if I am willing to replace the battery, it will strongly depend on the prices.
    Thank you,
    Esujko

If you want to replace your battery you can get one fairly cheap on eBay http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=aluminum+macbook++battery+A1280&_sacat=0&_od kw=aluminum+macbook++battery+A1278&_sop=12&_osacat=0
Or for $129 from Apple http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB771LL/A/rechargeable-battery-13-inch-macbook -aluminum

    Removing the battery:
Shut down the computer. Disconnect any cords connected to the computer.
    Turn the computer over.
    Locate the access door latch.
Push down to release the latch, this sets it in the open position, and remove the access door that covers the battery.
With the latch still in its open position, gently pull up on the battery tab to remove the battery.
Note: The latch must be in its released, open position to remove or replace the battery and access door.
    Installing the battery:
To replace the battery, make sure the latch is in its open position.
Hold the battery at an angle and slide the lipped edge of the battery below the brackets on the outside edge of the battery bay. Gently press the battery down.
      To replace the access door:
Line the access door up with the bottom case and the tabs in the battery bay.
Lower the access door into place.
Make sure it is level with the bottom case of your MacBook.
Press the latch into place, so it is in the closed position.

  • Replace dvd drive with SSD

I am thinking about removing the dvd drive in my macbook pro 15" and putting in a SSD drive. Then create a fusion drive using both the existing harddrive and the new ssd.
    What is recomended?
    1) Swapping the hd to the dvd and putting the ssd in the existing hds place.
    2) Or just replace the ssd with the dvd-drive? Leaving the HD where its at.

MacBook Pro's, for some reason, like the boot drive in the 'original' HD location. I have no idea if this would be the case with a DIY 'fusion' drive, however.
You may want to actually call OWC to see what they recommend (and, if you're going to replace the optical drive, you simply can't so better than the OWC Data Doubler)...
    Good luck,

  • Replacement Battery being sucked dry!!!

Got my replacement battery, charged it properly, but still has less than half the battery life of the original. Anyone else having similar issues? Anything that can be done?

When you say you charged it properly, did you follow calibration directions at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=86284
While Apple says one calibration cycle is all that's needed, it's not unusual for Lithium batteries to require several discharge cycles to come up to full capacity.

  • Replacement Battery Identification

How do I determine what my replacement battery model number would be? Where do I find this information, for I need to order one and want to make sure I get it right. I've seen batteries for sale on Amazon.com with model numbers like...."Apple MA348G/A Laptop Battery".
    MacBook Pro 15"
    late 2008
    Intel Core 2 Duo
    2.4 GHz
    thanks

"Model Identifier: MacBookPro5,1" is what I was after. You have the same model as I do. This is the Apple replacement battery (identical with the original):
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB772LL/A?fnode=MTY1NDEwMQ&mco=MTA4NDE4ODQ#ove rview
This Google search finds a variety of third-party replacements. I know nothing about any of them, but on the basis of more than ten years of daily experience reading and answering posts in the Powerbook and MBP forums here, I need to caution you. Many, many people who have bought third-party batteries at too-good-to-be-true prices have found that they were indeed to good to be true: their cheapies have frequently refused to charge at all, failed to hold a charge, failed to repport their condition accurately, couldn't be calibrated, didn't deliver any low-battery warning, drained so suddenly as to shut the computer down (losing all unsaved work), or any combination of the above. So I'm not really sure you get what you pay for when you pay a premium for an Apple battery, but I'm quite sure that when you buy an El Cheapo battery, you don't get anything you aren't paying for. And you may not be getting what you need. So choose a third-party battery at your own risk, and please let us know what you choose and how it works out for you.
