890fxa-gd65 black screen due to usb use ?

To discribe the problem in simple words: I noticed that my new build system stops working after approx. 20 minutes when I play a game (burnout city paradise) with my logitech gamepad, hence usb. Screen goes black, system is totally not responding to anything, but fans still run. I have to shut it down with the button on the psu. But after that I can restart my system right away. When I play any other game that doesn't involve a gamepad, the system tends to do the same black screen thing after 2 hours of playing, but only if I have usb stuff plugged in (printer, external hdd's and a card reader). Again, hence usb. As soon as I unplug everything, exept for the mouse and keyboard, it seems that I can play without end, but sometimes the black screen thing still occurs. I have been reading similar post on this problem in this forum, and on the internet, and tried the sollutions suggested, (in the bios, ver 18.3, cell menu, changing timing from 1t to 2t, switching from unganged to ganged mode) but that didn't help.
This is my setup:
890fxa-gd65 mb with bios version 18.3
AMD X4 II 965 AM3 Black [email protected] Mhz
Geil 8 gig DDR3 Value Plus pc1333 Dual channel memory kit (2x4gig)
MSI R6850 Cyclone Graphics Card.
Samsung HD, 1 TB, HD103SJ F3
Club 3D psu, 1000w
Windows 7 ultimate, 64bit.
If I should place screen shots of CPU-Z here, let me know. But i hope someone can help me, because I'm running out of options. I don't want to RMA this board just jet.

do you use windows 7 chipset drivers?
or msi chipset drivers? ==> http://www.msi.com/product/mb/890FXA-GD65.html#/?div=Driver&os=Win7%2064
also do you have SP1 installed?
I use the msi chipset drivers, and SP1 is installed.
But something weird just happened. I just tried to play a game with "Battlefield Bad Company 2", single player. It took a while trying to load the level, and then, all of a sudden the screen went black and the whole system was not responding. Had to shut it down with the power button on the PSU. And could restart immidiatly after that. And I mean Windows. Not the game....... I'm puzzeled    What I can do is that I try to do the same thing, play a single player game with BFBC 2, and see what happens......
Edit:
As I wrote, I went back to the game. Now it had no trouble loading the level. And I could play. I didn't play it for an extended period of time. Just to see if it works. And as I said, it did. This is becoming a weird puzzle.

Does anyone know what may be causing this problem?
    Thank you

Unless you held down the Command key when dragging the iPhoto Library package to the flash drive you only copied the library.  How is the flash drive formatted?  If it was not OS X Extended (journaled) the integrity of the library's internal structure was probably compromised.
If you don't have a current backup of your library do the following:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down to open the First Aid window. Be sure to follow the circled recommendation in the screenshot.
    2 - run Option #4, Rebuild Database.

  • GD65: black screen after 4.4ghz with i5 2500k

Hi, I have a problem with my MSI P67A GD65. My cpu is an i5 2500k. I tried to overclock it but if I go over 4.4ghz, despite very high vcore (1.39) does not start windows. The strange thing is that it don't go in BSOD, but the screen stays black or windows crashes a few seconds after the start of the boot process. They said me on an Italian forum (I'm Italian) which is strange, with that vcore windows should start or at least should give me BSOD, no black screen. Can you help me? Thanyou very much

I would start with updating your BIOS to the latest BETA BIOS Version (v1.8b11) which can be found here:  https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=144655.msg1081923#msg1081923
Set all clock settings back to default before attempting a BIOS Update.  >>Use the MSI HQ Forum USB flasher<<
Then retest with the latest version.

Sorry, but that is basically nonsense.  When the overclock settings are unstable, all kind of things can potentially happen: BSODs, freezes, black screen, reboots etc.  There is no rule that when a certain VCore is applied the only "right" response would be a BSOD.

Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I understand that you are having a display issue with your MacBook Pro on your TV.  I would need a little more information regarding how you are connecting your device and what content is being displayed to provide a better answer.  However, here is the best troubleshooting resource to go through when experiencing these symptoms.

  • 890FXA-GD70 black screen on boot

    Hello everyone,
I updated my bios from 1.D to 1.14 as suggest by the MSI Live Update tool. I am now encountering a situation where i have no video output until windows is loaded. I can hear the POST beep etc but i have no video during the entire boot.
I have unplugged and verified that all my video cards (Quad ATI Radeon 5800's) do indeed work. I have not tried pulling three of the cards out and seeing how it behaves on just one card. Might try that in a bit after i get some ideas.
Anyone run into this issue? if so, any ideas on how to remedy this?
    OS: Win 7 x64
    Video: Quad 5800's
    HDD: WD Green 1TB
    CPU: AMD FX 8150
    Memory: Corsair Vengeance Blue PC3-12800
Edit: Not sure if its possibly related but also worth noting is that since this bios update my USB 3.0 slots no longer function either.

    STU,
I am also having problems with the same BIOS Version on that board and the FX 8150.  Everything was running great with my Phenom II x6 1090t but I upgraded to the FX Chip and first had the black screen but after pulling the mobo battery to reset the BIOS it boots in to the BIOS just fine but windows 7 locks up (even after the hot fix).  Is there an issue with this BIOS version and the FX 8150 or are you just telling him to revert to the old BIOS version because it was working?  I am going to update the firmware on my OCZ Agility 3 SSD which is the only other thing I can think could be causing a problem.  Memtest cleared the RAM.  If there is a reason for me to try an older BIOS version I will do that too.

I press the "Turn on the fracking computer" button, the machine starts to rumble, but the screen is black.
Inside the chasis, I see that the letters F F are blinking along with the red HDD-LED
What I've tried: Change GPU (one that does not req. extra power), change RAM, place the RAM in different slots, reset BIOS, re-socket the CPU.
The only thing I have not tried yet is to try a different PSU, that is because  I do not have one near me at the moment.
I'ev tried a 650w PSU that came out of a working computer, didnt make mine work.
Also, the GTX GPU card's fan does not power up.
The DVD-ROM does not eject if it is conected to the motherboard, but if I remove the cable, it will eject once I've restarted the computer.

Sounds like you have tried everything except the cpu & mobo. If this was working before and happened suddenly, it is probably the mobo and possibly the psu. (PSU died and took out mobo) Seems like the only thing you have left to do to be 100% sure is to try the cpu in a different comp.
**If this is a new build and never started, take the mobo out and check for extra stand offs or shorts. Perhaps even put it togehter with 1 stick of ram , cpu, psu on a non-conductive surface.
The card is about 1 1/2 year old now, and was working fine before.
The CPU is 1 day old.
Also, the PSU ahve only been used twice, I bought it so that I had one in reserve in case I needed one to rule out the posibility of a defect PSU.
I will try and put the CPU in my primary computer later today and hope for the best.
I've also tried the RAM trick.

  • Black screen during booting despite using Thinkvantage button

    Hi
Helped a friend yesterday with headlined problem (see above). The problem appeared to be related to the Presentation Director (Fn+F7). So I connected an external display and that was that. Easy solved when U can see......
The question: While booting I used the blue Thinkvantage button but obviously this simpel presentation facility overrides the vital Rescue & Recovery's workspace to show up??? How is this possible? May the R&R facility be deactivated? If so, how do you reactivate it again? If I didn't had another display nereby this would not been solved.
    Grateful for any explanation!
    Regards//Pc

    Plaincollar, welcome to the forum,
how is the BIOS configured as far as boot display device is concerned? Ensure that you have the ThinkPad screen is set as boot display device in the config > display menu.  BIOS Simulator Index - ThinkPad General
    Hope this helps

  • Lync 2013 desktop sharing is giving Black screen when using virtual machine

    Hello,
We have a user who is connecting our network through VPN and connecting to a virtual machine. He is able to login to lync but when he start desktop sharing or some one sharing the desktop to him, he is getting black screen. He is using windows 7 and Lync
    2013 client. Please advice

    Hi,
Did he receive any error message?
Please double check the ports for VPN traffic.
Please also enable logging on Lync client for further troubleshooting.
What’s more, when users connect to the corporate network using a VPN client, Lync media traffic is sent through the VPN tunnel. This configuration can create additional latency and jitter because media traffic must pass through an additional layer of encryption
and decryption. The issue is compounded when the VPN concentrator is busy.
    You can configuration like this:
Lync client connect to the Access Edge Server for all signaling connections when on the corporate VPN. However, Media sessions routed through the A/V Edge Server interface instead of establishing connectivity through the VPN tunnel.
