975X - Is There Any Consensus?

I'm a long-time MSI customer/buyer/builder, but frankly the volume of really bad reviews of the 975X Platinum V.2 on NewEgg alone, causes me to hesitate.
Then I come back to the very fine MSI User Forums and see that the 975X BIOS issue - alone - has generated, to date, 420 replies and nearly 16,000 Views.  Couple this with the other, general concerns, e.g., boot troubles, RAID failures, sound issues, etc., posted elsewhere on the regular P4 Forum, and it's clear that MSI, always putting its latest "good stuff" out for sale, might really have gotten ahead of itself with the 975X Platinum V.2 . . . understandable I guess with Core 2s literally getting run over by the Quads before they were out 60 days.
I've used five MSI motherboards in my last five PC builds, even teaming the last one up with an MSI videocard.  Sure, a few problems here and there, but nothing like what is being reported about the 975X Platinum V.2.
I was considering buying the 975X Platinum V.2 . . . until . . . I really sat down and read some buyer reviews, from actual BUYERS and Builders, and then read - for almost two hours - the comments on the MSI Forums.
A couple of sour gripes here and there, I could understand . . . but of the 78 total reviews posted on NewEgg alone, 30 of them are no better than AVERAGE, with 12 being POOR and VERY POOR.  These reviews are clearly from many people who have used their own funds, and who WANT to think the BEST of what they've bought and used.  Whew!
I even have a more fundamental question:
What the heck does "PowerUp Edition" mean?  Are all V.2 975X Platinum Editions the "PowerUp Edition", or not?  And did Tom's Hardware have a "special" V.2 975X Platinum "REALLY PowerUp Edition", or were they smoking something when they gave it the Editor's Choice Award"?  And even MSI can't seem to decide whether to use the phrase or not when referring to the 975X Platinum V.2.
Lastly, and with respect for the many fine posters on these MSI Forums, what's the consensus?  Is there one?
Is there even a limited consensus to go ahead and buy the 975X and fix the glaring problems with Live Update now, and later as more releases surely come from MSI?
Or is there a consensus to stay the heck away from the 975X Platinum V.2 until MSI releases the next, hopefully better, Version?
Or is the 975X so flawed that there is a consensus forming to avoid it altogether?
I would sincerely appreciate any thoughts.
Thanks.

Well, apparently quite a few have made their way back to NewEgg . . . they are being sold as "OPEN BOX" for $112 with FREE shipping . . . I know, because I just bought TWO, plus one RETAIL at $170 to go with them.
Call me crazy, but this thread (and others like it) didn't scare me off.
Why buy returns?  Oh partly for the savings (I'm retired) and partly for the challenge.  If I can get them to run in a minimal way, maybe MSI will come along with fixes eventually . . . BIOS or otherwise for the DDR800 and other failings.  I noticed today that MSI is beginning to add some explanatory comments about the 975X on their website pages.
One of the eBay Sellers posts the following caveat on his website, and it probably applies in some small measure to what is going on with the 975X:
Item Condition Bad (Has issues) They may not power up or they may have other issues, if we know what the issues are we say so. These are for people way smarter than us (no need to confirm that either). For those lacking in comprehension that are still seeking a answer as to the condition of this item, it could be bad, not good, the anti good, good not, broke, defective, non-working, not fully functional, dysfunctional, defective, no-worky, or it could be fine and we are too dumb to know it is not broke. Still we are calling bad and selling it as is.
Where do you get this stuff? We dismantle entire truck loads of computer systems, laptops and computer components. We also get in parts from retired, end of life, obsolete or excess stock and customer returns.
Who buys this stuff? These auctions are aimed at people with the time and skills to repair these items if necessary. So, if you have or have had a pocket protector, tape on your glasses, the side off your box*, a soldering iron, you are our man or (be still my heart) our geeky girl.
Why bid on this stuff? Our competitors hate that we honestly describe these items as bad when they will not. Our lack of time, equipment and/or ability, means we start our auctions at blowout prices. Rather than offer a warranty and let you do all the work like our competitors, we sell all these items "as is" all sales final. These are the same items obtained through the same channels that many other ebay sellers use. We just call it what it is.
Please bid. If you are reasonably well adjusted, and you have both a sense of adventure and humor, welcome friend, please bid high and frequently. If your sense adventure or frugal nature will not allow you to risk your hard earned dough, check our other auctions for no doa warranty or new items we may just have something for you too:).
Please do not bid. If you are prone to whining when things do not go your way, do not bid. (we will make fun of you)
If you think negative feedback threats will make us take back a honestly listed item, do not bid. (we will make fun of you)
If you find anything in this auction distasteful, if you are ignorant, do not read well, no speeky (or reedy) english or just did not notice this huge amount of important information, do not bid. (we will make fun of you). If you were abducted by aliens and the probes interfere with your attention span, do not bid. (we already make fun of you)
Attention retentives, we know we are unprofessional (we dont even tie our shoes), no need to point it out to us, the big kids already make fun of us at recess. We mean no offense, we just try to have fun at work (you should try too). Do those probes hurt?

is there any benefit updating OS 10.6.8 too Lion and Mountain Lion etc. before updating to Maverick?

No. Before you upgrade check to make sure your applications are compatible. PowerPC applications are no longer supported after 10.6.
    Application Compatibility
Do a backup before you upgrade.
Check that your computer is compatible with Mountain Lion/Mavericks.
To check the model number hold down the option/alt key, go to the Apple menu and select System Information.
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) model number 5,1 or higher
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) model number 3,1 or higher
    Your Mac needs:
OS X v10.6.8 or OS X Lion already installed
2 GB or more of memory (More is better - 4 GB minimum seems to be the consensus)
8 GB or more of available space
You might update your profile - shows 10.5

  • Hi, I am trying to update an iPhone 4 from iOS 4.3.3 to iOS 7.0.4, and every time I try to update it comes up with an error message saying that there was a problem because the network connection was reset. Is there any way I can get past this and update?

    The full message said:
There was a problem downloading the software for the iPhone "Judy's iPhone 4". The network connection was reset.
Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, or try again later.
I am trying to update the iPhone for my grandmother, Judy, as I am leaving for Paris on Wednesday night and we want to have Facetime installed on her iPhone before then, so we can stay in contact with each other. It is the simplest way for this to happen but the program simply will not allow me to update her iPhone.
Is there any way to get past this error and update her iPhone? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Dear Jody..jone5
Good for you that can't update your iphone because I did it and my iphone dosen't work for example I can't download any app like Wecaht or Twitter..

  • Upgraded to iOS 6 and now I can't open anything in the kindle app? I have to say that I have had my ipad3 for 6 months and intensely dislike the problems with using it. Also is there any way of opening more than one screen as it is hopeless otherwise?

I Have had my iPad for 6 months as I cannot access my work emails using windows. I have to say that it is the most unhelpful device I have ever used and although it looks like there isn't an answer for some of the questions I have asked below, I thought I would try!
    1) I have upgraded to ios6 and the kindle app will open but crashes and disappears when I try to access a book?
    2) is there any way I can open more than one page at a time, as opening one at a time is hopeless?
    3) Is there any way you can replicate the right click function on word? As pasting and copying on the iPad is irritating to say the least!
    4) why can't my Samsung 11 phone connect to my iPad via Bluetooth? A they can't seem to 'see' each other? I may have turned a setting off when I was recently abroad and didn't want huge roaming charges.
    5) Why do the submit buttons on some websites not work and how can I get them to? I never have a problem with windows, but it is often a problem with the iPad.
    6) I have several websites which I have built and usually upgrade on the windows desktop, usually through Internet explorer, but I can't access the sites properly on the iPad (I can see them but can't alter them) and when sending emails through the websites they won't show the page and I can't navigate the page (the size of the email page is bigger than the iPad screen, but I can't either shrink the page to size or move the page around as you normally would on the pad, any ideas?
    7) finally, when roaming abroad recently, I had no problems using the wifi, but when trying to use the cellular data (using the roaming function) I could not get it to work? The ipad seemed to be connected to the network with no problems, but wouldn't actually update the emails? I tried turning it on and off, but that didn't make a difference. My kindle and mobile phone (both also on 3G ) worked great, it was just (as usual) the ipad playing up.
    8) when wanting to alter part of a sentence, I can't always get the cursor in the right place? Sometimes it is simple the wrong line, but often it will only go at the end or start of a word and not where I want it. Is there any way of making it more exact? Again I never have a problem with moving the cursor on windows, either by mouse or on the touch screen function on windows 7. Any ideas? As after pressing the screen multiple times I just want to throw it out of the window!
IT might just be that I don't have the correct settings (I am a technophobe) but I absolutely hate the iPad and only have it for work emails, it is so annoying that I can get my mobile phone and kindle3g to work fine, but always have problems with the iPad. I am sure it could be good (and for reading emails on the go in the uk it is great, as I like the key board) but it just seems to make everything else difficult.
i Hope you can help and sorry for asking questions others have, but I am just hoping that something new might have been developed!
    thanks,
    K

    1) I have upgraded to ios6 and the kindle app will open but crashes and disappears when I try to access a book?
Try rebooting your iPad, that should fix he issue. I that doesn't work, delete the app and re-download it.  The Kindle books should all be in he Kindle cloud services and you can get them again. I have an iPad2 w/ Kindle app and it works just fine - no issues.
    2) is there any way I can open more than one page at a time, as opening one at a time is hopeless?
Page as in a kindle book way? turn iPad to landscape position from portrait position. If, however, you mean open more than one application at a time, then no. And not hopeless, as it takes a bit of time to get used to, going from a desktop/laptop format to tablet format.
    3) Is there any way you can replicate the right click function on word? As pasting and copying on the iPad is irritating to say the least!
It's actually fairly easy. Press down on the word, then you can expand by drawing your finger to cover word/sentence/paragraph/page, hit select or select all then it gives you the option to cut, copy, paste, define. If you want to use a word processing app on the iPad, Pages is a good application.
    4) why can't my Samsung 11 phone connect to my iPad via Bluetooth? A they can't seem to 'see' each other? I may have turned a setting off when I was recently abroad and didn't want huge roaming charges.
It's the connection on your phone. Samsung Galaxy SII? Android software?  What you have to do is go to the phone's settings and connect via wireless, not Bluetooth. Go to System Settings (on phone) and under Wireless and Networks click 'more' and go to the Tethering and Portable Hotspot option. Set up your mobile wifi hotspot,  name it though it will probably come up with 'AndroidAP', choose a WPA2 security level and put in a password. Go back to previous screen and turn on 'Portable Wi-Fi Hotspot' box. Then on your iPad in the Settings - Wi-Fi section, it should then recognize your phone for tethering. If it's a Windows Phone 7,  I don't know the layout of that software, but presumeably similar.
    5) Why do the submit buttons on some websites not work and how can I get them to? I never have a problem with windows, but it is often a problem with the iPad.
Sometimes the issue is with the website design, not all websites are optimized for mobile devices - not just iPad but also Android devices. It happens. They're getting there, but occasionally the page might need a refresh.
It depends on what you use to build the websites on the computer. Recommend a free program on the computer called CoffeeCup Free HTML Editor. I don't recommend using IE period; Firefox or Chrome are my choices on Windows machines. I have two websites that I manage, both using this program. I'm assuming that when you mean you can't access the sites on the iPad you mean to update them? Ostensible there are apps to let you do this. What format are the sites? Without seeing what exactly you mean and what you want to do, it's hard to explain.
As for seeing full page while emailing within a site, turn iPad to portrait mode, and try to finger-pinch touch the screen to see if that will bring the fuller page  into view. Other option is opening a second tab with same website and just go between tabs to reference material.
If you were outside the US or Canada, my guess is the problem lies within the SIM card in your iPad. If you were outside North America, there are different band levels - I'm guessing you have a SIM thats locked to a particular provider. Band level frequencies differ per country/continent, so a SIM card that will work in Canada/US will not likely work in UK/Europe/Asia/Australia, etc. you will be able to get your emails again when back on a wifi network. Mobile phone may have a different type SIM card (GSM/HSPA) from your iPad SIM. Also, check your email settings.
Moving the cursor on a sentence is a matter of putting your finger on the screen where you want it. It's exceptionally easy to do. I'm using the Notes app to write this whole segment and I just need to put my finger where I want to change things and presto it's ready for me to change where I want it.
Here's a solution: sell your iPad (after you wipe your data off it) to someone who will appreciate it, and put your money towards the Windows Surface Tablet out later this year/early next year, where you can (reportedly) connect a mouse to it. It will have some of the Windows 7/8 functionality that you're more familiar with, or get a netbook.

  • Is There any API in receivables payment will made against closed invoices ?

    Hi ALL,
    i have requirement as below.
i am doing AR Invoice Data Migration for Instance 11.5.5 (as a Source Instance) to the new instance R12 (as a target instance).
Both open and closed invoices will have to be migrated from 11.5.5 to R12 to provide the drill down facility for audit purpose.
To meet the above requirement all the open and closed invoice will be picked up from 11.5.5 ; and imported into R12..
Subsequently, full payment will be made in R12 against all closed invoices in 11.5.5 to close those invoices by using any APIs?
can some one explain is there any API in receivables payment will made against closed invoices.
    Thanks,
    VSR.

    Hi,
Can you be clear on your question: You want any API to make payment against closed invoices?
To me, You are making things complex. We can achieve the Migration of Closed invoices using following two procedures:
    Procedure: 1
Ask Functional Guy to create a Transaction Type 'Closed Invoices' with Open to Receivables Flag not checked. +(You can uncheck Post to GL flag also, if required depending on your migration strategy)+. Status at Transaction Type if taken as 'Closed' it will be appropriate.
Invoices migrated using this Transaction Type shall not be shown as Outstanding but will be useful for Audit.
    Procedure: 2
Consider the amount due Original of Closed Invoices and migrate them with the amount as Amount due remaining.
While migrating populate Receipt Method,Payment Method and Instruments useful for Automatic Receipts.
Once Create Automatic Receipts Program is run, it will close all these invoices. Note: We require dummy bank here which points to a Clearing account.
Automatic Receipts program is also an API.
In the above 2 ways, we are acheiving the Goal by using Functional knowledge rather than Technical. And I think following Functional way is better and less time consuming.
Please discuss with your Functional consultant if required. You can succeed.
    Regards,
    Sridhar

  • Is there any way to contact verizon with a detailed cell phone technical support question?

Is there any way to contact Verizon with a detailed cell phone technical support question?  I prefer e-mail so as to provide details (like I am trying to provide here).  I have tried in-store personnel (no help at all) and the web chat - they just want to see me more data instead of helping me with my basic problem!
I CAN NOT GET ANYONE FROM VERIZON TO GIVE ME ANY HELP NOR CAN I FIND A WAY TO FILE A COMPLAINT.  AT THIS POINT I JUST WANT TO DROP MY VERIZON ACCOUNT BUT I'M SURE THAT IT WILL COST ME A SMALL FORTUNE TO GET OUT OF IT.
    Here is my issue:
Chat transcript removed as required by the Verizon Wireless Terms of Service
BELOW IS A SCREEN COPY FROM REDDIT ABOUT SOMEONE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM WITH A VERIZON CELL PHONE
So last night my RAZR MAXX HD did something totally bewildering by spontaneously downloading 2.6 GB of data over the course of ~ 3 hours. Fortunately I was able to catch this problem before it ended up being really expensive, but I still exceeded my 2 GB data plan by 600MB.
    The Culprits:
Reddit News Free: 160 MB foreground / 0.96 GB background
Android OS: 0 MB foreground / 1.18 GB background
Several unnamed applications: ~ 350 MB
    Screenshots:
    The massive data spike
    Android OS data usage
    Reddit News Free data usage
    Weird unnamed processes
    Detailed timeline:
5:12 PM: Incident begins according to VZW data usage website (2.60410 GB used). This is around the last time that I used my phone at the laundromat before getting dinner and watching Game of Thrones.
8:04 PM: 50% of data allowance used (txt msg)
8:31 PM: 75% of data allowance used (txt msg)
8:58 PM: 90% of data allowance used (txt msg)
9:13 PM: 100% of data allowance used (txt msg)
10:05 PM: Got the text messages and immediately put the phone into airplane mode
    10:30 PM: Took screenshots
10:45 PM: Enabled wifi, installed Kaspersky premium. Scan returned no threats.
11:00 PM: Left phone in airplane mode, went to sleep.
    The questions:
What was the root cause of this issue? Did Reddit News freak out as a result of an esoteric bug or was my phone hacked?
If this was a simple Reddit News bug, then why was the Android OS also trying to use such a massive amount of background data?
What the hell are these unnamed numeric applications? I've inspected my process history and this is the first time they have ever attempted to use data.
I'm pretty sure that I can explain this situation to Verizon and get out of having to pay additional data usage fees, but I would like to know more about the problem before I get in touch with them.

All I can think is your phone may have background downloaded an OTA update, and you'd then be prompted with something like, "As update to your Android system has been downloaded, would you like to install it now?"
I do find it very odd that the update would be 2.6GB. As a rough base, the CyanogenMod 10.1 firmware for your device is well under 200MB, so unless Verizon has a ****-ton of bloatware in the update, or it had to attempt to download multiple times for some reason, it may be a stretch.
But doing a little homework, it looks like the Verizon Razr Maxx was updated to 4.1 in late March. Maybe they're still rolling it out in waves? Have you gotten the update yet?
Edit: Aaaand I just noticed you appear to be running an AOSP-based ROM, which totally rules out a carrier update being sent out.
Edit2: If you want to live dangerously, you could try running:
    #kill -9 12289
That 12289 is the PID listed in your screenshot. But don't run that without fulling understanding the kill command.
The ps command could also be of use, but probably not.

I can confirm that the phone is currently at 4.1.2 and that I wasn't prompted for an OTA update. The fact that both the Android OS and Reddit News processes were simultaneously using an extremely large amount of data is unlikely to be a coincidence...

That is very curious that the spikes happened at the same time.I'm curious. It may have put at least some of that 2.6GB somewhere. You could use a data visualizer tool to see if you can find it, which may lead to more clues.

    The largest directories are:
DCIM: Normal looking photos (90,825 KB)
Android: Primarily map cache data (64,846 KB)
If it was downloading content then it did not significantly save content to storage. It's not like I have anything particularly sensitive on the phone, but the idea that it was uploading a snapshot of my data definitely makes me uncomfortable.

Yup, Digital Camera IMages and videos.Somewhere in /sdcard/Android would be my guess as to where a mysterious file would be downloaded, but if it's only 64MB, and mostly map data, I'd safely rule it out.I'm sorry, but I'm stumped here.Edit: I should mention I don't think this is malware, because unless a malicious app gained superuser access, any data it used would show under it's own apk in the data usage list, not Android OS.

Although I'm not really up to speed with the Android platform, I come from a UNIX background so I feel comfortable running commands. How do I pull up a bash terminal? Do I need to root the phone first?

There's a number of terminal emulators in the Play Store that work well. You don't need a rooted phone to get to the shell as your user, but any privileged command won't execute unless you can grant it permission from the Superuser app that is installed when you root the device. So you could probably do a ps -e, but not a kill -9.

Got it. I downloaded a terminal emulator but unfortunately those processes no longer exist.Does Android keep a generic log of system level events like /var/log/syslog?

I don't think so, and I know you'd need superuser permission to read most of the files in /var/log anyway. I'm not super familiar with how Android does its logging, but I do know that the two files of interest are the logcat and dmesg.

Want to mention here that using your settings to set your data cap (set it on your billing day), then you won't go over again. Those text messages are really unhelpful, as they send out well after the data has been used. Chances are good you hit close to the 2GB mark before you received the bulk of the messages.

That's definitely not the case here; both my PC and and Android phone are free from pirated apps.

You used the data.  Verizon can not see what it was sued for.  However your phone can see whats apps used the data.  go to settings-data usage- there will be a place that says data usage cycle.  line the dates up with your cycle.  then there will be a bar graph below that   extend bother white bars one all the way to the left and one all the way to the right.  after those are extended below that will be a list of apps,  there should be one that used over 2 gb and that will show you what app used that data in her purse

  • Is there any way to have Mail automatically use our default "Sent" folder?

We are a small college, with a fair number of users who use Macs and iOS devices, and we run an IMAP mail server. By default, our accounts are configured with Sent, Trash, Drafts, and Junk folders. Apple's Mail.app insists on "Sent Messages" and "Deleted Messages" rather than "Sent" and "Trash".
We instruct our users to use the menu command Mailbox > Use This Mailbox For > commands to select our server's folders on their desktops, and on iOS to use the Settings > Mail > Account > Advanced, but this is tedious and annoying. Most users get it about half right, so that some devices use our default "Sent", and some use "Sent Messages". (This happens with Trash as well, but most users are not concerned if their Trash differs device to device.)
Is there any server setting that can hint to Mail.app that it should use "Sent" rather than "Sent Messages"?
Apple has a support document about this issue, "Mountain Lion Mail: If messages aren't stored where expected on the server" (  http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11810 ).
However, that doc (and the similar one for Snow Leopard) merely says, "When Mail stores messages on the server, it looks for specific mailboxes, by name, in which to put the messages. If Mail doesn’t find those mailboxes on the server, it tries to create them on the server or, failing that, on your Mac."
The document does not specify what the "specific mailboxes" are, and certainly does not suggest that there is any way to have it cooperate better with our server, but perhaps there is a way?
(If I was trying to be a good IMAP client, I might look for any of "Sent", "Sent Messages", or "Sent Items", and use what I found before going to the next step of creating my own folder. Hard to imagine that any IMAP account would be initially configured without some "Sent" folder, so why not try to discover what the user has before pig-headly making your own.)

Unfortunately, I have not found a consise way to explain this to the general user, just a huge wall of text to work around something that Apple got wrong the first time they created an IMAP client, and has stubbornly persited with. Here's our documentation for this silly problem:
    Special Folders on IMAP
The basic idea is that all IMAP mail programs keep all your mail on our server, so that, e.g. when you read or reply to a message, all of your devices can then show that message as read and replied to.
By convention, each IMAP program treats a few folders on the server as "Special", such as a "Trash" folder, that deleted messages get moved to, and a "Sent" folder, where each message you send gets copied. When they all pick the same special folders, all of your devices will show the same view of your mail. However, if different devices use different server folders for their "special" Sent folder, then the mail from these two devices will wind up in two different places, and be harder to find.
Unfortunately, Apple's Mail programs are particularly obscure and obtuse in the way they treat these folders: They show their special Sent and Trash folders on screen with the obvious names "Sent" and "Trash", but secretly, under the covers, they insist on using folders named, "Sent Messages" and "Deleted Messages" instead. Even if the server already has perfectly usable "Sent" and "Trash" folders, Apple clients will ignore them and create their own special case "special" folders.
If you only ever use Apple devices to look at your IMAP mail, you might never even notice their deception. But, if you sometimes use another mail client, such as webmail, you will encounter the confusing truth: When we created your account for the very first time, we add a "Sent" folder (actually named "Sent") and a Trash folder, named "Trash", and this is what everything except Apple's mail will use by default, because those folders are already their the first time the client connects to your account. However, even though Apple shows your special sent folder at the top of the list, with a paper-airplane icon, and labels it "Sent", in fact they ignore the existing "Sent" folder and make and use their own "Sent Messages."
SO, if you send some mail from webmail, it will be in your actual "Sent" folder, whereas if you send it from an Apple mail program, it will be put into your "Sent Messages" folder. If you look into either "Sent" special folder, you'll only find part of your previously sent mail.
Similarly for Trash, though most users find it more problematic to have two different Sent collections than to have multiple trash buckets.
To unify things, you can either set your non-Apple mail programs to use "Sent Messages" and "Deleted Items"; OR, you can set all of your Apple devices to use "Sent" and "Trash". Doesn't really matter which way you go, though if a majority of your devices are doing it a particular way, you should change the non-matching devices to agree with the majority.
(All clear so far? Why did Apple make this so hard? It would have been utterly simple for them to check for an existing "Sent" folder, and to use one if there is one, rather than to always stubbornly create and use a new "Sent Messages" folder. Then, they add to the problem by pretending that their new "Sent Messages" folder is really just named "Sent". Stupidity all the way down.)
Anyways, to find out what the majority of your devices are doing, check them each to see which of the "sent" folders shows up in the "normal" list of folders rather than in the "special" location, that is, what folder name is in the list at the bottom of the folder area, rather than up at the special "Sent" icon, (because the special one will always be labeled "Sent", not matter what the actual folder name is).
For example, say that on all-but-one of your mail setups, you see a "Sent Messages" folder down in the normal list, and on the other device, you see "Sent" down in the normal list.
In that case, you'd want to set the "different" device to make the folder named "Sent" be the special one, instead of the "Sent Messages" that it was currently using.
Conversely, if all but one showed "Sent" down in the regular folder area, and only one showed "Sent Messages", then you'd want to make "Sent Messages" the special folder on the odd device.
Once you have decided, see the specific sections below for the procedure to set the "special" folders for Apple's Mail.app on a Mac, Apple's Mail on an iPhone/Pad/Pod, or for RoundCube webmail, or for Thunderbird.
Once you have every device using the same sent folder, then you can move any messages from the "extra" version of the folder into your special folder, and then you can delete the extra folder. (If you delete this extra folder and it later re-appears, then it means one of your mail programs is still using it as its "special" folder, and recreating it.)
Similarly for Trash, though probably you could delete the extra trash folder without moving the files, because they are trash.
Here are the details for changing the Special Mail Folders on the systems we use:
    A) iPhone, iPad, iPod:
As a first step, use Settings > Mail to set your device to read your email account, then open the Mail program so that it will read the list of all of your folders from the mail server. After that, go back to Settings > Mail to make sure it is using the desired special mailboxes on the server.
Select your IMAP account in the settings tool, and then press the button for "Advanced" settings, and find the list of special mailboxes, e.g. Sent, Trash, Drafts. For each, scroll through the list of folders on the server to choose the folder you wish to use for that function.
Note: iPhones/Pads/Pods also can be set to keep sent mail locally on the device. This is a spectacularly stupid choice for normal IMAP, as none of your other devices will be able to see the messages you send from your phone.
    B) Mail.app on Mac desktops and laptops:
Set up mail so that it reads your messages and folders from the mail server.
Select the "Sent" folder that you wish to use in the list of folders at the lower left of the mail window. (On newer Macs, the folders may be hidden by default. Use the "View > Show Folder List" menu command to display them if necessary.)
Use the menu command "Mailbox > Use This Mailbox For > Sent" to specify that the selected mail box is the special folder for sent mail, and similarly for your Trash, Junk, or Drafts folders.
    C) RoundCube Webmail (with the standard skin):
Login to your webmail site , and select the "Settings" icon in the upper right of the window, which has a "Gear" icon. This will display a "Settings" panel with buttons for "Preferences", "Folders", and "Identities" settings. When you first open the Settings panel, the "Section" panel shows a row of buttons for different Preferences.
Click "Special Folders" in the "Section" list to open a list of "Drafts", "Sent", "Junk", and "Trash". Each special folder is followed by a menu of all your server folders. Select the server folder to use for each special folder.
    D): Thunderbird:
After you have set up your connection to your IMAP account, click "Get Mail" to fetch your existing mail and list of folders on the server.
Next, select the menu command "Options > Account Settings…" (Note that on current versions of Thunderbird, the default menu drops down from an icon of three horizontal bars, in the upper right corner of the mail window. You can use the Options command in this menu to display a menu bar at the top of the Thunderbird window if you wish. With the full menu, the menu command to access the special folders settings is "Tools > Account Settings…"
Select "Copies and Folders" in the list at the left of the Account Settings window. This panel has a section for Sent mail, Archives, Drafts, and Templates. Select "Junk Settings" in the list at left to specify the location of the Junk special folder.
For each special folder, the default choice is the the folder on the server with the "typical" name, e.g. "Sent" for sent, and "Trash" for trash. To use a different name, select the "Other:" option for the folder, and then choose the desired folder from the list of folders on the server.
Oof! That's a lot of explaining for a issue that Apple should have gotten right in the first place, or at least should have fixed in their next several tries. It would not break any existing functionality if they merely used whatever folder the server had created, and only made their own if there was none.

I want to buy a new apple tv but it used hdmi cables and my house is only wired for analog.  Is there any way I can use the apple tv on analog cables?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
    It's do-able, but I don't think it's a great idea.
    DVI
Some users with DVI have managed to get their TV's to work with DVI-HDMI cables. DVI carries no audio, so alternative connections need to be explored to enable audio. DVI doesn't necessarily support HDCP as well as other standards used by HDMI (which may or may not be an issue)
    Analogue
There are hardware converters that will convert HDMI to various other types of output, however there are some issues with doing so that you should be aware of.
    HDCP
HDCP compliant converters will not allow you to watch HDCP protected content such as that from the iTunes Store. Non compliant converters exist but we cannot discuss them under the Terms of Use for these communities.
    Resolution and aspect ratio
I'm not aware of any converters that will scale the output from the Apple TV, any TV or projector which is used will need to be widescreen and support resolutions of 720p (Apple TV 2), 720p/1080p (Apple TV 3)
    DAC
DAC (Example Only - Not a recommendation or suggestion that this is suitable in your circumstances)

  • Is there any way of dragging and dropping an iCal event showing in week view across to a date in the left sidebar monthly calendar?

Hi, Im not a frequent forum poster, as most of my questions can be found already answered on them!
This is a question Ive had for a long time and it amazes me that no-one else seems to ask it. I check at each OS upgrade but its never there...
Is there any way of dragging and dropping an iCal event showing in week view across to a date in the left sidebar monthly calendar?
I was able to do this years ago in MS Outlook, and utilized it all the time when I needed to push things back, now I have to open the event and select an new date in the drop-down calendar for each & every event I want to move to a new month at the end of the month.
If its definitely not possible, how to you ask apple to consider including it - it doesnt seem like a particularly difficult task.
    Thankyou
    Andrew.

    Andrew,
Is there any way of dragging and dropping an iCal event showing in week view across to a date in the left sidebar monthly calendar?
No, but you can use cut/paste. Cut (⌘X) the event, then click on the week where you want to move the event, and Paste (⌘V).
If you have a suggestion for Apple to change that method use: Apple - Mac OS X - Feedback.

  • Is there any way to create custom views, like in Thunderbird & Evolution?

    Hi Folks,
I have recently switched to Mac. Before this I was using Linux. For mail I used Thunderbird (TB) for many years, and then eventually switched to Evolution Mail (EM) for its smoother integration into Linux.
On both TB and EM I revolved my work flow around custom folder views. As new email came in I would label it (on EM, or tag it on TB). I have numerous inboxes (email accounts) so I would generally be starting out in a smart folder that displays all mail in each inbox. I would most of the time view that smart folder with a Custom View filter in place. The filter would simply display ONLY mail with NO tags/labels.
Once my filter inbox showed NO messages it meant I had labeled everything. I would them use other smart folders to display mail with certain labels AND NO "Completed" label. That way I could go to my "Reply ASAP" folder and see what needed my immediate attention. Each email I replied to I would then add the label COMPLETED and it would vanish from my view.
I explain the above in case someone has specific suggestions on how to achieve a similar workflow on Mail.
In short, what I am wondering is this:
    - Is there a built in way to filter a folder on the spot (with a drop down list of predefined and custom Views) --- I have looked and so far did not find this feature
    - Is there a way to do this with a script or add-on? I have looked at many and not found a suitable one yet.
I am appealing to the knowledge of those with more experience in Mail. It is new to me.
I am currently using TB on my Mac because it gives me the above feature. BUT it does not have the same degree of integration with the OS and other Mac specific apps that Mail has. Thus I am keen to stick with Mail.
    With thanks,
    Jonathan

    In addition to above:
I have installed a trial of Mailtags. It certainly improves the tagging capability of Mail.
I have also looked at the Smart Mailboxes and Smart Mailbox Folders.
As far as I can tell, however, there is no option to set up a smart mailbox that ONLY shows message with NO LABEL or NO MAILTAG (as the case may be). I can display messages with particular TAGS but not NO tags.
Is there any way to add more options to the Smart Mailbox filter system?
    Cheers,
    Jonathan

  • Is there any way to view two tabs at the same time w/o opening a new window?

I would like to view one tab while I am working in another. I can do it by opening one of the tabs in a new window and tiling both windows on the screen. Is there any way to do it within one window?

Just installed Split Panel and it looks like it will do exactly what I want.
    Thanks,
(Don't know how this got in here twice. I'd like to delete it but can't figure out how to.)

  • Is there any way to "Print to PDF" from Acrobat?

In Windows, you can open a PDF in Acrobat and print it to a PDF.  This isn't behavior isn't available in the Mac version—trying to use "Save as PDF" and "Save as Adobe PDF" both produce the following error message:
Saving a PDF file when printing is not supported. Instead, choose File > Save.
Is there any way to print to a PDF from Acrobat Pro X on a Mac (running Snow Leopard)?
Note: There's a utility to being able to print from a PDF to PDF (which I why I suspect it's available in the Windows version), so "You're doing it wrong—just Click File > Save" would not be a very helpful response.  I'm sure there are other uses for the functionality, but in my case in particular I need to split each page of a scanned PDF in which each page contains two pages of the original document.  Printing to a PDF provides an easy way to do this, but I'm open to a more appropriate solution if it's available.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

Adobe removed the ability to "refry" (make a PDF from a PDF) several versions ago.
what you need is to go to document and choose Remove (delete) pages (if it’s a duplicate Page)
You can also extract pages, add pages and so on. See this:

  • Is there any way to prevent the OS from querying the Superdrive when start

Just a random question. Whenever my MacBook Pro starts up (either from sleep or a complete/fresh start, the OS queries the drive slot to see if there is a disc present. While this may be normal behavior, it seems to slow down the start up process. (I rarely ever have a disc in the drive). Just curious if this, in fact, normal, or if there's something awry.

Is there any way to prevent the OS from querying the Superdrive when start
    No
he OS queries the drive slot to see if there is a disc present.
How can you tell? Based on the noise it makes?

  • When I attempt to open a PDF file I saved from a website, I get the message "There was an error opening this document. The file is damaged and could not be repaired." Is there any way to correct this problem?

When I attempt to open a PDF file I saved from a website using Safari, I get the message "There was an error opening this document. The file is damaged and could not be repaired." When I save the same PDF file using FireFox it opens up immediately. Is there any way to correct this problem with Safari?

    Back up all data.
Triple-click the line of text below to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have the letters “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it as well, if it's present.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.
