A diff instance design

Hey,
I want to write a diff instance class.
The DiffInstance will get two instances of the same class and will return a collection of difference between the instance.
This is done because there are a lot of services that triger by changes in the model.
For example - audit need the diff between previoues state to new state, businees trigers that are intresting in changes in the model state and etc.
So i plan to get the new state in the fron service compare it to the old state and sent the diff to any registered service (like audit).
1. are you agree with me that its better to take the diff in central place and avoid compute the diff in each of the registered services?
2. what do you think will be a good structre for the diff result? my first thought was something like jxpath (or any other navigation expression like -http://java-source.net/open-source/expression-languages ), but i have two problems with this:
a. sets
b. what if one of this tools need to get the field for annotation info?
any ideas?

Sounds wrong to me. If you update something then you should plan on doing a static migration at the time of the update unless there is some business reason that prevents that. Attempting dynamic migration is not only very error prone but can impact performance for an indefinite period as well.

The form of the difference is driven by the use to which the difference will be used. That said XML is one form.

Error in shared component import within same as well as diff instance.

Please help me with below issue:
I am trying to import shared components related to a single page within same instance to diff application.I changed the application_id to target application_id and also set wwv_flow_api.g_id_offset to diff value.
Still getting following error:

there also I am getting same error.

The error seems to be that the template (some breadcrumb template) does exist already. What kind of shared component do you want to copy? Some, like images and templates, can be shared between applications in the same workspace. Thats the main reason why they are named "shared". Also possible would be that this component was created or is using some standard template/theme/menu, that is created during the standard apex installation. Or it was already copied during the workspace installation.

Splitting traffic between 2 diff instances of WLS (one 5.1 & other 7.0)

At my company, we are exploring the possibility of upgrading the appserver for
our website from WLS 5.1 to WLS 7.0. We run iPlanet web server. However, to reduce
risk and short-term costs, we are looking at only migrating a few key web-pages
to WLS 7.0 and keeping the remaining pages on the existing instance of WLS 5.1.
We want to maintain a single instance of the iPlanet web server.
I want to know whether this is a viable strategy i.e. splitting the web-traffic
to 2 different instances of WLS running different versions.

You cannot register 2 versions of our plugin in one iplanet instance
b'coz the function names are same. So in reality it's not possible to
have 1 iplanet instance to route requests to 2 different WLS versions.

Getting Error - Cause: Status of the batch is not 'Completed' in OIM 11g R2 during Trusted Recon

Hi All
I am new to OIM 11g R2. I am trying to create custom connector for trusted recon. The case is to migrate the users from 10g to 11g R2. The recon event is created but it is in Event Recieved status and when I re-evaluate the event, its giving error - Cause: Status of the batch is not 'Completed'.
I saw in some posts to change the recon batch size parameter to 0 and restart the server. I have done that but still I am facing the same issue.
There is no child data in the attribute mapping and user login is set as key.
Any inputs are welcome on how to get rid of this error.

In Web Console Job Scheduler, I had one Recon "LDAP FULL Recon" which has a property
"OIM Employee Type" which was before "Full-TYpe" i changed it to * & it worked.Now I am able to generate events.
It seems like value of Employee Type has an Issue in OID, please correct me ?

Creation of Standby database on same host

Hi All,
I am using oracle 9.2.0.1.0 on windows XP machine.
*I want to create the standby database for my primary database on same machine.
But both tha data base is heaving diff instance as well as the diff database name say "ASHU" for primary & "TEST" for standby database.
I took the backup of all datafile and copied it in the standby location.
Generate the standby control file also and copied to the standby location.
But when i am going to start the standby database it is giving the below error:

You do not change the dbname of the physical standby database. They always must have the same name as the primary.
Here is a snippet from my standby initialization file for a 9i installation. Notice the parameter LOCK_NAME_SPACE that was replaced in 10g with DB_UNIQUE_NAME

Adapter Engine on XI

Hi,
What are the different types of adapter engines and when do we use Plain J2SE adapter engine?....
why is it used?...Is the installation a diff instance compared to the regular installation?

Hi Ravindra,
The normal Adapter Engine will be on J2EE server.
A Plain J2SE adapter Engine is a toned down variant of the normal adapter engine(J2ee).
It will not have all the adapters that are there in a J2ee adapter engine.
It has fewer security features also.
But it is still available to support Operating systems that do not support J2EE.
But they should have JDK 1.3.1 or higher though.
So, you have to use J2SE adapter engine only when the platform prerequisites doesn't allow you to use the J2EE adapter engine.

Urgent: \connectivity between oracle and SQL Server

Hi I have a problem, a person in some of the dept's in office created a small oralce forms application that uses a oracle db10gr2 installed on personal pc (windows xp)to connect to a sql server to pull data. Recently the sql server was upgraded to blade 2008 from blade 2003. Then aplication stopped connecting correctly I think it has to do with the listener but not sure where the problem lies.

the system dsn works fine it even tests correctly, but teh database link does not work even for something as simple as
select sysdate from dual@person;
the db link is a public one so priviledges should not be an issue and the command i used to create it is:
create public database link person connect to USER identified by pwd using 'person';
also unfortunately this is an employee initiative (said empoyee has left without documentation or notes) and there is no oracle support.

Compare physical db with CASE model

I'm using Designer Release 6.0 for PC. I'd like to compare (diff) my Designer db server model with my physical implementation
residing on our server. We sometimes have developers change the physical db without changing the CASE tool (ERD, tables, etc.). I
remember an old version of the CASE tool that had a report available that performed this compare. You run the report, login to your
physical db, then it would compare the CASE model with the physical model and give you an output of the differences. It would report
any column size/type changes, constraint changes, index changes - everything. I don't remember the name of the report but
I can't find a report title in this CASE version that sounds like this. Anyone know of such a report?

Hi,
You can run the Reconcile Report when you run the Server model generator. In the Design editor select the Relational Table Definition node and open the Server Model Generator. You must choose to generate to the livedatabase rather than generate the DDL files.
The generator does not automatically execute the DDL it creates. Once the generator has created the DDL it also creates the Reconcile Report and brings up a dialog allowing you to view the DDL, execute the DDL, examine the report or cancel. The report comapres the physical database and the table definitions.
If you examine the DDL you'll see that the generator creates ALTER statements for any tables it finds in the database.

V$BGPROCESS and V$SESSION

This is on 10g.
V$BGPROCESS displays information about background processes
V$SESSION has some rows representing background processes.
What is the difference between two ?
Am I correct in understanding that ; v$bgprocess contains total allocated processes whereas, v$session represents total runtime processes on that instance?
That being said, for example, if there are 10 sessions, all 10 sessions will have same number of bacground processes. Is that true?
To explain further, say if v$session displays DBW0 and DBW1, it means two instance of DBWR processes are running for this instance. But if v$bgprocess has DBW0.. DBW9 processes, that means, you can maximum have 9 DBWR processes on that instance.
Please concur if above is correct.

it gives 157 rows, but in production it gives only 70 rows. Does this mean that maximum number of bg processes allowed are less on prod box than dev box?Your production database has 70 BG process, so its showing you this value.
The BG process can differ instance to instance, such as ARCH process, if archiving is enable for an instance, then you will have this one from your query, and you will not have this one where the archiving is not enabled.
You can set the PROCESSES parameter in DB, there is no parameter relate to BG process solely.
you would have the value of PADDR=00 for the inactive BG processes.
Those BG processes are active will have a value of PADDR which is the address of the process state object.
Look at below :
you will find that PADDR !='00' from v$bgprocess retrieve the same columns as querying the v$process and v$session by joining and have the PADDR=value/not 00, that is the active BG processes

Open finder in different desktop sessions

How can we open finder in different desktop sessions.....
Or alternatively switch diff instances of finder like Alt+Tab in Windows

I can assign Finder to multiple desktop but if I access it from any desktop it opens the same instance of Finder.
Is there a way by which I can open different instance of Finder in different desktop.
My goal is to switch between different instances of Finder, quickly.

Issues in installing runtime assistant

Hi,
I am facing ORA-03113 error while installing the runtime assistant. This error seems to be happening at wb_rt_service.sql.
OWB Version:9.2.0.2.8
Repository:9.2.0.2.0
Database:9.2.0.5
OS: RedHat Linux Enterprise Edition 3
HW: HP 2CPU 4GB RAM.
Database & repository are on the same server in two diff instances.
I saw a posting in this forum which says there was a bug with 9204 & rerunning catalog.sql as a remedy. I tried that but it did not work.
Can anyone help?

We have seen this message before when people had upgraded the database software, but not actually migrated the database to the newer release (indeed, running catalog.sql).
Anyway, can you logon as system, and execute the following command:
select comp_name, version
from dba_registry
Depending on what version of the database you are running... (please let us know) and the patch level this should give you some result. It would be really helpful if you post the result of that query.
Also, have you changed any of the default parameters of the database. Or, have you reduced the database for some reason?

Concept of SAP Clustering in Windows

I am Installing the SAP ECC6 EHP4 Clustering in the Windows 2003 Enterprise Edition. I have completed the windows Clustering MSCS and Database Clustering SQLSERVER 2005 in the NODE A and NODE B. I also aware that i need to install the Replication Server in NODE A and NODE B. My Doubt is whether ASCS in NODE B is Mandatory? and Dialog Instance is also Mandatory ?

Following are the instances we need to install in HA system installation
1) DB instance
2) ASCS & SCS instance
3) CI / Dialogue Instance
Designing of cluster environment is depends on your infrastructures. As you mentioned its two node cluster you can go as follows.
DB instance and ASCS & SCS instances are the single point of failure. So these instances needs to be registered/installed in both the node A & B, so that instances can run on both the node in case of failure of one node.
Now, you can run all these instances in single node or if you want to sare the h/w load you can put DB instance in Node A(primary) and ASCS & SCS in Node B (primary).
In such case if Node A fails DB instance move to Node B and if Node B fails ASCS and SCS instance move to Node A.
Now if you have additional h/w for dialogue instance then install it seperately. If you don't have additional h/w then you can install as following option
1. One DI in Node A & one in Node B.
2. One DI in any Node & register as cluster component. So if primary node of DI fails it moves to other node .
Note : I explain a scenario only which may be feasible. Please follow the installation guide where you get all in details

How do i Join tables in diferent connection pools?
For example if i have column 1 from table A in connection pool A and i want to link it with column 2 of table B from connection pool B how do i go about doing that?
should i model that in BMM or in physical layer?

I am not sure (becoz I havn't tried) how far it holds good. You can implement joins between tables from different connection pools (or exists in diff instances) in physical layer. But upon referring them from Presentation Services, How BI Server generates/prepares SQL(s) to get the data from different instances with the join specified in PL?

Default printer was not valid, switching to 'GetUnPrinter'

I recently deployed my web application to Red-Hat Linux and I'm receiving the following error: "Default printer was not valid, switching to 'GetUnPrinter'."
I pinpointed the line of code throwing the exception, which is: ReportClientDocument reportClientDoc = new ReportClientDocument();
I designed the report using CR4E. The exception isn't thrown on my local XP machine. I saw another forum topic with a similar issue (http://diamond.businessobjects.com/node/1245), but it wasn't helpful. Does anyone have any suggestions?

You'll see similar error messages when you open a file in the Crystal Report Designer client application, and not just with the Crystal Report for Eclipse designer or the JRC.
The JRC uses the Java Print Service to retrieve printer information - this ensures that the fine placement of fonts and graphical objects are consistent across platforms.
If you specify a specific printer against which the rpt is to be designed, then it will look for the very same printer at runtime. If that printer is not available, then it will try using the default printer for the machine. If there is no default printer, then it will load a very simple dummy printer model - the UnPrinter.
The exception message is that - it's an explicit warning that the formatting of the report may differ from design time.
What CUPS and default printer installation does on your Unix machine is expose a default printer to the Java JVM Print Service.
