Sadly, I don't know how to make this run as a JNLP. So currently there is just a run.bat inside the zip (that means you gotta extract everything first). If you feel like modifying that or directing me to the location for modifying thatm then be my guest... =)

I think it's quite good.
Did you get it working? How?I hit the down arrows and noticed the onscreen menu. Then I hit return (I tried cliking, and space, and mashing the keyboard :p ). I've got Java 5 installed (It's at work, so I didn't get to play too long), the movement keys seem to be wadx (or something around that area), and space was fire. I don't want to start it up again, the boss may be on holidays, but I'm still getting paid to work ;)

How can I capture a snapshot/screenshot from my game made with edge animate

I am wondering if its possible to put a symbol button inside edge animate once the user clicks on it it downloads a screenshot from the current screen the user is on because it's a required inside the project I have made and the client is really asking for this advantage and I made the whole game with edge animate so please if anyone has any solutions to tell me about them..Thanks

We don't use canvas natively, so the html5 canvas screenshot may not work for you. I did a quick websearch and there are libraries out there that may take a screenshot for you, but you may want to be wary due to privacy concerns with using third party software.

Lumino City - a game made with paper, card, miniature light, and Flash

Hi all,
I thought you might be interested in a game we've been working on for three years, which will be coming out in the next few months.
It's called Lumino City and it's a game hand crafted entirely out of paper, cardboard, and miniature lights and motors. It’s been created in Flash, with After Effects and Photoshop, and no other tools except a scalpel.
We created a ten foot high model city, and filmed to create the environment for the game. After Effects allowed grading and motion tracking, and animation and interaction were all done with Flash. It's been a new way of using this software, but no other technology had the tools or the pipeline to do the job.
To our knowledge no game of this size has been created in this way using Adobe tools before. The trailer for Lumino City is viewable here, and the game should be coming out in the next few months on PC and Mac.

I have had this problem too. I've had my computer for just about 2 months now. I haven't had any problems until very recently when my computer crashed several times. The first signs of problems arose when i first tried using the discrete graphics card, a lot of things went awry. I switched back to the integrated graphics since. Then most recently, after installing safari 4, my computer has crashed twice. The first time, it froze and I restarted fine. This last time, everything froze while trying to open a website and when I tried to restart I got the three beeps.
It seems like many people are having problems with RAM, how does this happen?
I will take it to the apple store tomorrow, but this is very disheartening. I have been a long time mac user, I've rarely ever had any problems with my old powerbook.
Anyone else having problems after safari 4 or the discrete graphics card? Or is it unrelated?

Ok.every time i try to play cartoon network fusionfall unity crashes. unity says they wont help with a game made with unity. is this a problem with firefox? or should i ask somewhere else?

Multiplayer Java Game with java networking ???

Hi everybody. I responsed a new university finising project. I will create a new game that multiplayer on a server. I am in a simple level on java. I have no java networking or no jdbc info. I belive I can success but I have no idea about which map i should follow. I will wait for your suggestions.
(Or can I find a muliplayer game sample with java networking?)

Maybe you could use RMI if you haven't got latency problems (that u will encounter certainly if you intend to use it with 56k modem).
It's quite flexible and in java 5 also more usable.

If Apple disabled Java 6 in 10.6, and you can't upgrade OS X to 10.8, then your pretty much done with Java in OS X because Oracle won't issue updates for Java 6 anymore.
However you can install Windows 7 and continue to use Java 7+ there until support for Windows 7 ends in 2020.
Windows in BootCamp or Virtual Machine?
If your on 10.6, I very highly recommend the free Virtualbox for the virtual machine software as it gets updates, VMFusion and Parallels have moved on with only 10.7+

So here is what comes to pass.
Recall this started as a Lion Safari/5+ environment that SU took to version 6.
Two weeks ago I just updated Flash Player. Today I fire up Java Preferences and I am told that I need to download Java. Did so, intentionally hit the "factory reset" button and then installed the Flash Player from teh Adobe site. The most recent install suggests automatic update but I choose "ask first."
Restart Safari and we seem to be in order

Is this sequence stored in a column in the database?
How do you want to partition the table? RANGE? HASH? Or is there some sort of list partitioning scheme you're thinking of?
If the table already exists, you know that you're going to have to re-create the table as a partitioned table, re-create appropriate constraints, indexes, triggers, etc. and move all the data over, right? Online table redefinition can hide some of this complexity from you (though it may well introduce other sorts of complexity).

Never programmed with Java

I have never programmed with Java, and dont know, what i can do, I use PHP, but, i am only a novice at it.
I was wondering, is it possable to get data from a page, and put it into an image? if there is no data from the page, it will ask for the data to be added, and this will update every so often?
Also, Most of you know about google maps, where you can search for something, well, can i do this same thing in java, have a map, not of the earth, but for a game, and make it easy to add different parts, so that we can search for it, and people can find it easy to look for what they are looking for?

I think Google Maps is programmed in JavaScript using AJAX (short for Asynchronous JavaScript and XML) and is what as known as a web application. Google has released an API (still in beta) for working with Google Maps. The webpage for this API is http://www.google.com/apis/maps/. I've never read the source code to Google Maps before (a lot of which is available by just viewing the source code of the Google Maps webpage, which can be done by clicking, View > Source in Internet Explorer and View > Page Source in Mozilla Firefox), however I don't think it is a terribly complex application (this does not mean, however, that the source code is easy to read). I think the way it works is by requesting individual images as needed from the Google server and piecing them together on the client side (i.e. in the browser). Basically what you would need to do to use their existing code is to replace all requests made to the Google server with requests to a server of your own and have the server return the corresponding images. This might not be particularly easy to do.
In my opinion, a better approach is just to write your own custom application (probably in Java) which simply mimics the behavior of Google maps, except with your own custom images. This way, you don't have to reverse engineer an entire web application before beginning to write one.
Writing your own application for this purpose is not as difficult as it sounds, especially not in Java. Once understanding the basics, you will not be too far off from being able to write your application.
Let's start with the most basic program (this program would be located in a file called Program.java):

Problem with Java and Windows (Mainly Vista and UAC)

Hi all,
I am having a problem with a program that I've devoloped. The program itself is packaged as a jar and I plan to deploy it across multiple platforms eventually however right now i am only concerned about windows based systems. I have made an installer for a windows baised systems using NSIS to install the software files. I made the installer as I need several java packages to be installed so the program would work (JAI, J3D, JAI ImageIO) and I also require the program to have fileassociations on windows.
I know that this is not what java is about, however the majority of the users will be on windows baised systems so I've decided that OS specific installers is the best option.
During the process I have noticed that there are several key problem with java for this type of application!
The first issue that I have come across is getting file associations to work on java. As a .jar is not an excutable it is not possible to directly associate a filetype with it in java so to overcome this I currently run the program from a .bat files and also the program requires large memory so this also allows me to run the program with -xmx. The batch file that I use is :

Ok so all this appears to work fine and allows windows to have file associations and start the program and thats all works perfectly but this is a non-ideal solution. Has anyone got any advice on improving this?
The next problem that I have appears to be a problem with Vista and UAC (user access control). When a user installs the program and installs the program into the program files directory I found that the program did not work and kept saying that I did not have access to the files in the current directory. This is a problem as I read and write settings files during program execution.
On a Vista system UAC prevents file write operations into the Program Files directory unless the program has requested elevated status even if the user is a full administrator. The probem is that there appears to be no real way to achieve this under java that I'm aware of...
Has anyone else had this probem and has a suitable solution?
Any advice on these issues would realy be appricated.

Ok so i've kinda found a solution, its not ideal but its very good. I found this program called Elevate

This program allows you start java with a UAC dialog for high access using
Elevate java -jar myjar.jar
This then allows you to have full access using java... I guess it could be dangerous but it does the job.
