A good Primer on srvctl - Getting things to autostart?
Hello all,
Ok, I've finally gotten 11gR2 clusterware installed. I have ASM installed.
I've created some RAC database instances.
How...wondering how to get all things to autostart on boot...and how to auto shutdown on a clean shutdown of servers.
I know it has to be some sort of srvctl (from the CRS home directory), but trouble is...I'm not finding any clearn instructions on what to use and what order...examples would be a Godsend on this.
I'm guessing I use srvctl add instance at some point...maybe srvctl config database...etc?
I found how to start the scan and scan listener, but not sure how to make sure it comes back up autostart on a reboot.
Any suggestions or links...a good tutorial with examples would be great if anyone had a link or two.

Hi Cayenn,
after you installed clusterware, clusterware will take care of your whole stack.
You actually don't have to do anything. If you shutdown a server and start it up again, clusterware will restart everything for you.
So there is no need to do a "clean" shutdown, and no need for a startup.
However if you want to stop it manually:
crsctl stop cluster -n <node>
You can also stop the local ohasd deamon via.
crsctl stop crs
But this is totally unnecessary.
If you want to disable autostart of the cluster then you need to disable it:
crsctl disable crs
crsctl enable crs
Then you have to start the stack with crsctl start crs.
All other things will get started as they wore before...
There is only one thing, which you might want to stop "immediate" and that is the database instance on a server.
srvctl stop instance ... -o immediate
However stopping a database instance has the drawback, that clusterware remembers the state that it was down and will not automatically start it up again.
So better just shutdown your server ;)

I just got a MBP Retina. At it's highest resolution, everything is tiny. The only way to get things to a readable size is to lower the rez, but that defeats the purpose of having it. Am I missing something?
It doesn't defeat the purpose to lower the resolution. When you choose the size you can read, the extra pixels are used to make the text and graphics more detailed, closer to the high print resolution humans have been accustomed to reading on paper for hundreds of years. That is the difference compared to the coarse screen resolution of a conventional (non-Retina) screen.

Back up all data before proceeding. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
Start up in Recovery mode. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select Disk Utility.
In the Disk Utility window, select the icon of the startup volume from the list on the left. It will be nested below another disk icon, usually with the same name. Click the Unlock button in the toolbar. When prompted, enter the login password of a user authorized to unlock the volume, or the alternate decryption key that was generated when you activated FileVault.
Then, from the menu bar, select
File ▹ Turn Off Encryption
Enter the password again.
You can then restart as usual, if the system is working. Decryption will be completed in the background. It may take several hours, and during that time performance will be reduced.
If you can't turn off encryption in Disk Utility because the menu item is grayed out, you'll have to erase the volume and then restore the data from a backup. Select the Erase tab, and then select
Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
from the Format menu.
You can then quit to be returned to the main Recovery screen. Follow these instructions if you back up with Time Machine. If you use other backup software, follow its developer's instructions.
Don't erase the volume unless you have at least two complete, independent backups. One is not enough to be safe. -

Maybe Apple should put that in the small print beside the "Install Update" button.

information and did it and it did not work. I did that BEFORE I found the info on going to the bottome of the page and making sure the little flag was a USA flag, which it already was.
Neither of these things fixed the problem.

Agreed. Don't even think about starting a long, disc-intensive process like that without both machines powered by AC.

How do i get things off the desktop once i put it in the trash? it shows in the trash but it wont get off my desktop..... it wont open from the desktop either????
There are several ways. The two easiest are to click the Junk icon to turn it off or right click the message and select Mart As-Not Junk.

My iPhone's touch screen recently quit working, so I have a new one on the way so I tried to back-up my phone on my laptop and it will not connect. I've tried restarting the Apple Mobile Device services and that didn't work. So I completely unistalled iTunes using Apple's instructions and re-installed it and it still will not connect, and I don't use iCloud because the iPhone is my only Apple device. Is there any other way to get things off of my iPhone or is it all pretty much gone?
You need to get iTunes to recognize it. If your iPhone is working, which it is not, then a new screen would help. But you iPhone is broken beyond just a new screen. Now you can see why iCloud or even an iTunes Back Up is so important. iCloud back up is ideal for you, a one Apple device person, it automatically backs up your iPhone so there is a current back up ready to use anytime, especially in emergency like this. When you get your new iPhone, iPad anything use iCloudl it is free and simple.

Skydiver. After using separate apple ID's our two iPad minis still get things mixed up like Siri changes our names and some phone#'s
but I would like to be able to dowload content to the Ipad as well.
I'm afraid that you can't sync content to an iOS device via Home Sharing (you can only stream it to an iOS device via Home Sharing). -
OneDrive for Business not syncing, stuck at "We're getting things ready to sync..."
I had a Sharepoint library synced to my desktop for months and two days ago my computer had to suddenly reboot. When my comp restarted I had over 1,000 sync errors on files in my OneDrive for Business folder so instead of going through each individual sync
error I stopped syncing the folder, removed it from my local library list, and tried to resync the same Sharepoint library.
Now when I try to resync it gets stuck at "We're getting things ready to sync..."

According to your description, you had encountered a sign in issue for OneDrive.
You can clear OneDrive cache by following the steps :
1. Open the Task Manager and end every Office process (MSOSYNC.EXE, GROOVE.EXE and MSOUC.EXE).
2. Open Windows Explorer, navigate to the following locations and delete everything (files & folders):
C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Office\Spw
C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Office\15.0\OfficeFileCache
After you deleted everything, you should be able to start OneDrive again.

Reminders: Getting Things Done (GTD)
Hello everyone!
I am a user of Reminder Applications like Omnifocus and Things for years now and these softwares are outstanding.
Yet something they fall short, for instance with the Location Reminder, Too Simplicity or Too Complex.
Why hasn't Apple looked into improving the Reminders to the Standards of Things 2 and Omnifocus? I mean one of the main reasons I have bought an iPhone is to use these softwares, it would make even more sense if Reminder is at that level.
Basically Omnifocus and Things have 1 great feature, which is they follow the Getting Things Done program by David Allen. And I really hope Reminder follows the same system and takes it to another level of Task Management.Thank you for refering me to the right direction Stedman1.

When i sync my phone/ipad in itunes, it just continues to update so in the end (hours later) I have to eject manually, then turn my device off/on to get things back to normal, but it doesn't update my device properly, please help team.
You don't have much choice, do you? You're either going to have to restore the software or take it to the Genius Bar to see about getting that button fixed.

Um, there are loads of other map options in the App Store. MapQuest and Waze are just two of many. And you can still have Google maps, just not as a native app. To create an app location for Google maps on your home screen, go to Safari and type maps.google.com
This will open Google Maps. Once open, Google puts a box just above the up arrow on the bottom to create a shortcut on your home page. Once on your home page, you open Google Maps, as though it were the built in App.
Correction: Above are iPhone Directions
For iPad, once Google Maps open, touch the forward (box with right facing arrow) and choose the Add to Home Screen option.
Or, you can just pout and threaten to throw your device away. Your choice.
