A new wait event
Hi all,
We have a 2 node RAC 10.2.0.3 database.From quite sometime we are experiencing "transaction" wait event apart from "enq:TX".
What is this "transaction wait event"? How does it differ from enq:TX row lock contention event. I have searched a lot but couldn't find any proper document to describe it.
Has any one encountered this event before?

Wait Events "log file parallel write" / "log file sync" during CREATE INDEX
Hello guys,
at my current project i am performing some performance tests for oracle data guard. The question is "How does a LGWR SYNC transfer influences the system performance?"
To get some performance values, that i can compare i just built up a normal oracle database in the first step.
Now i am performing different tests like creating "large" indexes, massive parallel inserts/commits, etc. to get the bench mark.
My database is an oracle 10.2.0.4 with multiplexed redo log files on AIX.
I am creating an index on a "normal" table .. i execute "dbms_workload_repository.create_snapshot()" before and after the CREATE INDEX to get an equivalent timeframe for the AWR report.
After the index is built up (round about 9 GB) i perform an awrrpt.sql to get the AWR report.
And now take a look at these values from the AWR

Wait Time: Time it takes for the I/Os to complete. Even though redo records are written in parallel, the parallel write is not complete until the last I/O is on disk.This was also my understanding .. the "log file sync" wait time should be higher than the "log file parallel write" wait time, because of it includes the I/O and the response time to the user session.
I could accept it, if the values are close to each other (maybe round about 1 second in total) .. but the different between 132 seconds and 4 seconds is too noticeable.
Is the behavior of the log file sync/write different when performing a DDL like CREATE INDEX (maybe async .. like you can influence it with the initialization parameter COMMIT_WRITE??)?
Do you have any idea how these values come about?
Any thoughts/ideas are welcome.

CREATE INDEX with NOLOGGINGA NOLOGGING can help, can't it?Yes - if you create index nologging then you wouldn't be generating that 10GB of redo log, so the waits would disappear.
Two points on nologging, though:
<ul>
it's "only" an index, so you could always rebuild it in the event of media corruption, but if you had lots of indexes created nologging this might cause an unreasonable delay before the system was usable again - so you should decide on a fallback option, such as taking a new backup of the tablespace as soon as all the nologging operatons had completed.
If the database, or that tablespace, is in +"force logging"+ mode, the nologging will not work.

Don't get too alarmed by the waits, though. My guess is that the +"log file sync"+ waits are mostly from other sessions, and since there aren't many of them the other sessions are probably not seeing a performance issue. The +"log file parallel write"+ waits are caused by your create index, but they are happeninng to lgwr in the background which is running concurrently with your session - so your session is not (directly) affected by them, so may not be seeing a performance issue.
The other sessions are seeing relatively high sync times because their log file syncs have to wait for one of the large writes that you have triggered to complete, and then the logwriter includes their (little) writes with your next (large) write.
There may be a performance impact, though, from the pure volume of I/O. Apart from the I/O to write the index you have LGWR writting (N copies) of the redo for the index and ARCH is reading and writing the completed log files caused by the index build. So the 9GB of index could easily be responsible for vastly more I/O than the initial 9GB.

10.2.0.3 high concurrency wait event
I have a new 64bit windows 10g 10.2.0.3 VM server doing nothing but spinning its wheels. I intalled Oracle on it Friday and when I checked it tonight I see it is getting high concurrency wait events. Looks like every 10 minutes concurrency goes up to about 35.0 (?seconds) and then goes back to 0 - up and down every few minutes. Just enough to hit the warning threashold.
I need this machine for a peoplesoft install on Monday morning.
Anyone have any ideas what this could be? I kinda know what concurrency is but not sure if it could be from hardware or software.
Didn't see any patches/bugs but I will continue to look.

Im having this little trouble with this Step at my Workflow (WS9000000004).
In my Workflow Template I got step "Wait Event" for BUS2105 (ZBUS2105) to Event "ZPROCESSED".
At some BADI for ME41, I'm using FM SWE_CREATE_EVENT for BUS2105, Event "ZPROCESSED".
(Using "BUS2105" as object, "ZPROCESSED" as Event and "EBELN" (quotation nº) as Object-Key)
At Swel, when someone creates (saves) a new Quotation, it shows that this Event is triggered properly.
(But doesnt have any receiver, but I think this is correct, as I'm not using this event to Start a Workflow)
But all my flows from WS90000000004, (that is still processing) are stuck waiting, for event ZPROCESSED.
Am I missing something?

PS: "ZPROCESSED" isnt the starting event from WS900000004. It is just a Step Event. The Starting event is "ZCREATE' who is working properly when a new Purchase Requisition is created. (Again, using SWE_CREATE_EVENT at some Exit in ME51N).What is the option that you have used to wait I mean

So I can check if the Quotation have itens of the particular Purchase Requisition.
If yes, check the PR status, if all itens were "quotated", Status receives S. Then exits Loop.
Or by "Condition Check" you mean another thing, like somekind of the Step configuration itself?

Nope.... This Event is getting (actually should have been) triggered by SWE_EVENT_CREATOR at

100% CPU, wait event : latch shared pool
I have a store procedure, run in one of database, it hangs in a "create table ... as select ..." statement.
the wait event is : latch shared pool, and CPU is up to 100%, it has run over few hours and seems hang.
Same stored procedure run on others enviroment, never seen such problem, even run on the same data size or even much much bigger data size.
This procedure has been used more than 2 years, never see such problem in any others enviroment. it only happend in this new setup enviroment.
however, in this enviroment, if I try to reduce data to be very very small, I was able to see procudure complate in 10 sec.
I suspect parameter, for example, I changed shared_pool_size from 40MB to 150 MB, re-start database and re-run, still see the same problem here.
Could anybody suggest any thing I can look into?

If it's running at 100% CPU, it's not waiting.
Does v$session_wait (or even v$session since you seem to be running 10g) tell you that the session is *"waiting"*, or is it simply noting that your last wait was on the shared pool latch ?
If the latter, then you probably have some SQL in the procedure that has changed its execution plan to become much more CPU intensive - perhaps because of a small change in the data volume, data distribution, or statistics.
First step - find out what SQL statements are executing, and see how much work they are doing. You could query v$session for that session a few times and check what the sql_id and sql_child number are, also prev_sql_id and prev_child_number. If these stay constant, one or other may give you the guilty SQL statement. If not check v$open_cursor for the session.

Hello everyone,
Thanks in advance for any help given, i am new to workflows.
I modified a workflow and at some point i copied some of the logic that another workflow has, when it comes to the wait event i copied it exactly the same.
When i trigger the event that should make the evet continue it is not working. Is there anything I should do for my wait event in the workflow to work? I copied it exactly as the other workflow ahs it, even the parameters are called the same in the workflow.
Is there anytrhing that needs to be done for the wait events that i should know about?

I did use SWU_OBUF, thanks :).
When an order is accepted or rejected the event should be triggered, as it happens with the other workflow (the one i copied the logic from for that part). It works like this: the workflow creates an order that is in sent status, i can go and change it to activated or to rejected, when this happens the event should listen to the save and should trigger the rest of the workflow.
I have no idea why it is not working, as the flow is the same that is being used in another workflow, that also creates and order that goes into sent status.

This happens when:
* The session starts a control file transaction (to make sure that the control files
are up to date in case the session crashes before committing the control file
transaction)
* The session commits a transaction to a control file
* Changing a generic entry in the control file, the new value is being written to all
control files
The wait time is the time it takes to finish all writes to all control files
To reduce this wait event, you can decrease the number of your control files (if this number too high) or place your control files to faster disks.
"direct path load" event occurs when a session waits for completion of direct load operations to database files. For example, if you are using SQL*Loader direct path load operation or import dump file made in direct mode.
To reduce this wait event, you can also place your control files to faster disks. -
Oracle RAC 9i LMD library cache lock top wait event
We are experiencing the library cache lock as our top wait event. Even thought the box is currently idle, The Global Enqueue Service Daemon (LMD) is taking up CPU cycles. The background process is also logging to trace "skgxpdocon: warning outstanding accept handle count has reached new high water mark 245000".
Any help would be appreciated.

I have problem with enq: TM – contention wait events.
From ASH report in Top Event P1/P2/P3 I find problematic object – table T1. It has two columns C1 and C2. There are PK and FK constraints on these two columns.Table T1 has one UNIQUE INDEX - index_name(C1, C2).
With this:

Can I create new index on this C2 column: CREATE INDEX index_name_c2 ON T1(C2) because I have index on C1 and C2 columns ?
In ASH report in Top DB Objects I see another indexes and table with enq: TM – contention event. Whey Oracle show me this objects?Based on what you've written I see nothing that should stop you from creating an index but I would recommend you do so in dev or test before production.
As to why Oracle is showing it to you? Likely because it thinks there is a potential issue there.
Remember always that the best designed database in the world is going to have a top 5 or top 10 list too. The only way to not have events reported is with shutdown abort. -

Performance Issue: Wait event "log file sync" and "Execute to Parse %"
In one of our test environments users are complaining about slow response.
In statspack report folowing are the top-5 wait events

Sudhanshu BhandariWell, of course, you probably can't eliminate this sort of thing entirely: a setup such as yours is inevitably a compromise. What you can do is make sure your log buffer is a good size (say 10MB or so); that your redo logs are large (at least 100MB each, and preferably large enough to hold one hour or so of redo produced at the busiest time for your database without filling up); and finally set ARCHIVE_LAG_TARGET to something like 1800 seconds or more to ensure a regular, routine, predictable log switch.
It won't cure every ill, but that sort of setup often means the redo subsystem ceases to be a regular driver of foreground waits. -
Hi: I'm analyzing this STATSPACK report: it is "volume test" on our UAT server, so most input is from 'bind variables'. Our shared pool is well utilized in oracle. Oracle redo logs is not appropriately configured on this server, as in 'Top 5 wait events' there are 2 for redos.
I need to know what else information can be dig-out from 'foreground wait events' & 'background wait events', and what can assist us to better understanding, in combination of 'Top 5 wait event's, that how the server/test went? it could be overwelming No. of wait events, so appreciate any helpful diagnostic or analysis. Database is oracle 11.2.0.4 upgraded from 11.2.0.3, on IBM AIX power system 64bit, level 6.x

thank you very much!Hi: just know it now: it is a large amount of 'concurrent transaction' designed in this "Volume Test" - to simulate large incoming transaction volme, so I guess wait in eq:TX - row is expected.
The fact: (1) redo logs at uat server is known to not well-tune for configurations (2) volume test slow 5%, however data amount in its test is kept the same by each time import production data, by the team. So why it slowed 5% this year?
The wait histogram is pasted below, any one interest to take a look? any ideas?

Cannot add new iCal events on my iPhone 3G.
My iPhone 3G has stopped saving new iCal events. I can still set up new events in iCal on my laptop, and they'll sync over to my iPhone, but new events won't save when entered into iCal on my iPhone. Any idea what's wrong and how to fix this?
BTW, I just got rid of a MobileMe account. I never ended up using MobileMe, so it doesn't seem like that should be the issue here, but I noticed that some other folks have had iCal sync issues with MobileMe, so I thought I'd add that info.In other words, it's hacked.

Create new iCal event from contents of mail uses wrong date
I received an email today with an appointment using the date "6/3/2010 at 4PM". Being from the US, it is obvious to me that this meeting should occur on June 3, 2010, but when I attempt to create a new iCal event with this date it creates the event on March 6, 2010. Even more confusing is that when I choose "Show this date in iCal" it highlights March 7, 2010!
My question is:
Shouldn't the system default to a month/day/year date preference everywhere when I've selected US English in the internationalization preferences pane?have a very similar question: is there somewhere an application where I can, when receiving an email, put it into iCal so that I am reminded about it in a week or something?

In mail "create new ical event" has stopped appearing in ical
Please help! I love clicking on data in email to bring up the "Create New iCal Event" box, and using it to put new events into my ical calendar. But recently when I "Create New iCal Event" from an email, and click "add to iCal" the window closes but the event doesn't show up in iCal. I can still add events by clicking on a calendar date in iCal and typing them in, but the link between Mail and iCal seems to be broken. How can I fix it?
Could this be related to how Firefox recently broke? Foxfire will not save bookmarks any more, either, I click on "Bookmarks," then "Bookmark this page". The window closes but the bookmark does not save. Also, the forward/backward browser arrows no longer work on Foxfire.Could you be more specific? What happens (or fails to happen?)
