A painless return?

I used to use and love Premiere years ago in the days of LE4.1, but changed to Pinnacle Studio when I had to get a new capture box (the Pinnacle Studiobox 700-USB). I've found Studio a pain ever since...
As I type, I'm downloading a trial of Premiere Elements 8 but wonder whether it will work on my oldish PC, whether it will co-exist for a trial alongside Studio 12.1 and whether it will be more stable than Studio...
(PC spec 3.4GHz Intel chip; 3GB RAM; strange Readon X700SE video card (about which I can find out very little); lots of external (USB2) HDD space.)
Any comments, please. Is it safe / wise to return to the fold???

Welcome to the forum.
There are some considerations, as to PrE 8 working on your computer. First, you will also need adequate internal HDD space. Please tell us more about the internal I/O sub-system, i.e. the internal HDD's. More detail is better, than less.
Next, tell us about the material that you wish to Capture, and if you plan on using the Pinnacle A-D bridge to do this. Most likely, you will need to use Pinnacle Studio to do this Capture through the Studiobox 700, but details will direct us there. Also, the material used as source footage will tell us more about whether your computer is stout enough to work - AVCHD material, for instance, will likely be too much for your computer. Otherwise, if you have the latest drivers for your ATI Radeon and for your Audio card, plus a very recent version of QuickTime Player. [Note: some have had issues with the 7.6.x versions, but 7.5.5 is still getting good reviews. Normally, I'd say just get the latests, but the two most recent "latest" versions seem to be heavily flawed for many using Adobe programs.
Last, I cannot address Pinnacle Studio and PrE 8, but can say that PrPro 2.0 worked fine with Pinnacle Studio 9.4.3 and also with Studio 10.1. I did not go any further with Pinnacle Studio, and never had PrE (any version) on that computer. Still, I had PrE's big brother (a few generations ago), and two older versions of Studio with no issues. This does not directly address your situation, but would give me hope that they could coexist.

PS - I found that using USB 2.0 externals to edit to/from to be frought with problems. The main one was delayed write failures of the USB external, plus the speed was agonizingly slow. FW-400 was more stable, but still slow. FW-800 was excellent and I still use these to edit to/from and shuttle between computers. Using eSATA externals would be even better. In this case, YMMV (Your Mileage Might Vary), and only you can decide whether it works for you. For me, USB 2.0 externals are only good for archival storage and not dynamic editing, but that is my personal experience.

SSD fails to verify after kernel panic?

I have been using a 256GB Samsung 840 Pro SSD as my main boot drive in my MBP for about 6 months now with no issues. Last week, I randomly got a kernel panic and had to reboot my mac, however, it failed to boot. After opening the recovery tools, the disk utility failed to mount the SSD. After trying to reboot several times, the drive finally mounted and I tried a verify/repair, both of which failed. I also tried the Apple hardware diagnostic tool which ran without issue.
I then took the drive out and placed it in my Windows desktop. Using Samsung's disk "magician" I ran a diagnostics of the disk which said nothing was wrong. I updated the firmware and tried it in my MBP again where it still failed to mount/verify. I then put the disk in an external SATA->thunderbolt enclosure I had and the disk was not only recognized but booted, verified, etc completely fine as an external drive.
I then took my old internal HDD and put that in my MBP, wondering if perhaps it was my macbook that had the issue. However, this also booted and verified fine, suggesting it was in fact the SSD with the issue.
I called Samsung, and (painlessly) returned the drive and they shipped another one out to me. I continued to use my old HDD in my MBP with no issues while waiting on the shipment. Today it arrived, first I restored my OS to the SSD using my external enclosure and the drive booted and verified fine with no issues. I reinstalled it inside my Macbook and suddenly the drive no longer boots or verifies properly and will not repair - disk utility tells me to format the drive, which I tried, which then produces the same result.
I then tried resetting the SMC and PRAM, both of which had no effect.
I am completely at a loss at this point....
tl;dr Kernel panic, SSD no longer works internally, but is fine in external SATA->thunderbolt enclosure, original HDD boots fine internally. Replacement SSD also fails with same weird issue (works externally but not internally). Regular HDD still works in internal bay.
After using an SSD for so long I can't go back to just using a regular HDD, the speed difference is painful...but SSD no longer seems to work. What is going on here? Has anyone experienced anything like this before and what are my options?

The new SSD seems to only have issues verifying partitions. If I select the physical volume in disk utility, it verifies fine with no errors. Any and all Mac partitions (MSDOS seems to work....) fail to verify or repair.
From what I've found, the only people with similar issues either A) had a "faulty" SATA cable or B) didn't enable TRIM on their SSD. Since a regular HDD still works fine in the internal bay where the SSD was installed, it can't be the former and I had enabled TRIM when I installed the SSD so it shouldn't be the latter.

Returning iPhone 4; new SIM card

I returned my phone today and it was simple and quick. Painless, aside from returning the parts of the phone that weren't reception-related, because it is awesome in every other way.
Though I was told ahead of time, and I accept it, I will have to buy a new SIM card for my old phone. So it's not exactly a full refund, in the sense that you are out 20 bucks for your troubles. I give Apple credit for waiving the restocking fee though.
In the end I don't mind the way they handled this so much. Essentially they're saying take it or leave it and making it easy to leave it. Fair enough.

Painless switch from PC to MAC

As many people do so, i will be making the switch from PC to MAC in 2009.
Since i want to do this as painless as possible, i want to be prepared as good as possible. I already found some information about licensing but i'm also much concerned about the technical issues.
- Creative Suite CS2 / Photoshop CS3 : can i take all my actions, custom settings, brushes etc to the other side? All compatible. Concerning third-party plugins i know i will have to contact them seperately
Working a lot in Indesign and Illustrator, i expect to have many Font issues. Any advice on this?
- Lightroom: i have 5 collections and some 100,000 photos in DNG, JPEG and PSD format on 3 different (internal and external) drives. I backup on another external drive. I'm concerned making the switch, Lightroom's database will either not be compatible or will not take along all settings (presets, keywords, sets, etc).
- color consistency / calibration. I know the colors displayed on my current monitor are correct. Can I expect differences when displaying my photos on a mac?
Anything else I have to think about? I don't want to lose years of work neither spend weeks switching from one platform to the other. Any advice is really welcome.

I am not a lawyer, and you might not be either: but when I am repeatedly given misinformation by representatives of a corporation, I must consider the possibility of fraudulent behavior. Whether or not the persons giving out the misinformation are employees or outsourced contractors is immaterial to me; the ultimate responsibility lies with Adobe's management.
Here's another example for you of misinformation. I discovered yesterday (after quite a bit of searching) that Adobe Acrobat Pro for Mac does not include the application LiveCycle Designer. However, when I looked at the product description on the Store page, I saw no mention that this is a Windows-only feature:

I have several forms that I have created for clients using LiveCycle Designer. However, now that I have a Mac, I will be unable to edit those forms in Acrobat Pro, which I purchased as part of Creative Suite. Of course, if I had purchased Acrobat Pro 9, and once I opened, installed, and ran the software, I would have discovered that I did not in fact have LiveCycle Designer. I could then initiate a return, which would hopefully be completed within the three-week time frame specified.
I repeatedly requested that I be given an ID for the chat, either the representative's ID or a reference number for the chat. "Randy" told me he couldn't give me any "personal information," (I did not ask for his last name, just a way to identify him) but said I could email myself a copy of the chat. I entered my email address as instructed but never received a transcript of the chat.
I can only conclude two things from this experience:
One: Adobe's management of its Customer Service and Sales departments is incompetent;
OR
Two: Adobe is deliberately trying to deceive me, the customer, with "bait and switch" tactics.
If it's the first case, then I am only too eager to stop buying products from a company that cannot manage its Support and Sales teams. If it's the second case, I must consider filing a complaint with the FTC.
Mr. Isaacs, if you were in my position, what do you think you would do?

Can I return my laptop

I bought my laptop around the beginning of March 2011. I am very dissatisfied with it and was wondering if I could bring it in for a refund.The computer is a Dell Inspiron.

I'm sorry, but you only have 14 days to return a laptop. You could send it in for repair if there is an issue with the device.

Return of Free goods item - Problem in item category

I am trying to create return order of Free sample billing
(ZFDP). The return order type for the free sample is ZFDR.
We have specified Item category for the ZFDR is RENN (Free good item) in IMG Activity -> Assign Item categories.
When I create order and save it, it prompts me to enter G/L Account.
This material is free. It should not prompt G/L Account for it. There is no revenue recognition specified for the item category. I tried changing item category to ZKLN i.e Free of charge item. This item category does not prompt for G/L Account while creating order. but I can not use this item category because it prompts me for Avialability. I can not remove the Avaialabilty check for it because the same item category is used in the Free sample order where availability check is required
In ZFDP order type, we are issuing 100% discount by using R100
discount condition. Please let me know how can I solve this problem.
I think there is some problem in my item category itself. .
My setting for Item category in IMG - Define item category is
same for both ZKLN and RENN. Only difference is RENN has returns
tick and pricing field is blank. In ZKLN pricing is defined as B- 100%
discount. I also tried changing the pricing option of RENN to B.
But still it is asking for G/L Account.
I can not use ZKLN instead of RENN because my ZKLN is used in the
Free item Sales order.
Please help.

I got answer to my query. YOu need to specify the bill type while defining sales document type. This bill type should not have account assignment mentioned in it.
I changed the bill type, which does not have Account assignment procedure attached to it.
It has solved my problem

Query help: query to return column that represents multiple rows

I have a table with a name and location column. The same name can occur multiple times with any arbitrary location, i.e. duplicates are allowed.
I need a query to find all names that occur in both of two separate locations.
For example,
bob usa
bob mexico
dot mexico
dot europe
hal usa
hal europe
sal usa
sal mexico
The query in question, if given the locations usa and mexico, would return bob and sal.

Unable to capture return values in web services api

At the time of login to web services if my server is down ,
it returns following error :
java.lang.StringIndexOutOfBoundsException: String index out of range: -1
        at java.lang.String.substring(String.java:1438)
        at java.lang.String.substring(String.java:1411)
I want to capture this error so that i can try another server to login. how do i capture this error
Another place where i want to capture the return Value is when i look for a report on the server

I have got a list of servers running web servcies stored in my tokens. when i pass the first server name say " test:8080" and that server is down , i want to catch somewhere in the code above that it did not get the connection so that i can loop back and try with the second server say test1:8080

the code ultimately throws a null handle at the following line

i am not able to catch the null value there also.

Generate prov.xml for Creative Cloud. Return Code 27

We're trying to follow this guide (Creative Cloud Help | Using Adobe Provisioning Toolkit Enterprise Edition) to serialize a package (or something). We're stuck on generating prov.xml. My best attempt at an entry is:

It says half of this is optional, but I'm skeptical.
Anyway, I'm getting return code 27. This indicates that it is unable to edit the prov.xml file specified. I didn't specify a prov.xml file, I'm trying to make one. The syntax I'm using differs from what I found on the page I linked, as that was giving me syntax errors. I lifted this off someone else's code. I've tried just about every variation I can think of. Any help would be appreciated.

Help Needed: Returning Back to Windows 8 after downgrading to Windows 7

Hi guys, im just new here.
I have a MSI GE40 gaming laptop which I bought 2 months back.
Within those 2 months of usage, I always encounter my laptop to be very slow in shutting down. It always take, maybe up to 10 minutes to fully shut down. The screen goes black but the power button stays on orange color, & as I said, it takes a long time for the power button to be completely unlit. But for start up, its blazing fast.
Thinking that windows 8 itself is the culprit of super slow shutting down, I searched the net on how to downgrade to windows 7.
Of course I did make a back up first on a 16gb usb flash drive using the pre-installed recovery software from MSI which was completed successfully.
Then I made some tweaks on the bios (ie select legacy & disable secure boot) & boot using windows 7 installation DVD, deleted all partitions (since the notebook comes with GPT partition) to be able to install windows 7. I installed all the drivers which I downloaded from MSI website specific to my notebook.
But the problem is not solved, it is still very slow in shutting down, & now even boot up becomes very slow too.
So I downloaded & execute the firmware & bios for windows 7 from msi website (again, specific to my model). But still the same, the notebook is still very slow both in shutting down & start up.
So I decided to go back again to windows 8, I tried to boot from the flash drive (I adjusted from the bios & make the flash drive to be the first priority) but it did not boot from it. I tried F11 on start up & selected to boot from usb flash drive but again, to no avail.
So the last one I did was downloaded windows 8, make a bootable flash drive out of it, boot from it and luckily, I succeed - I have now again a windows 8 msi ge40 laptop.
But I wanted my laptop to be reinstated to factory setting, i.e, all preinstalled softwares are there, the bios is default for windows 8. So I tried to update the bios to the one for windows 8 again (since I downgraded the bios to the one for windows 7 when I downgraded the OS to windows 7). But I could not update the bios, the laptop is not booting from usb flash drive containing the bios.
I tried also to recover using F3 on start up but the system does not recognize the flash drive (with system back up). I tried also on PC settings but to no avail.
Now guys, I need your help.
How can I return back my laptop to default factory settings?

I think it's not only about the OS version, you need to return this back to your shop to repair with the slow shot down issue, because the OS should be shot down in 30 seconds, far from your GE40 times.

Can I return my Lenovo S 205 ?

Hi guys, I have had a multitude a problems since owning my Lenovo S 205 some 8 months ago.
I got the laptop via Laptops Direct, an online laptop store.
The first problem I experienced was when the laptop kept on shutting down on its own quite a few times. This I later discovered was because the laptop battery had a tendency to become loose sometimes.
The second problem was when it began to freeze after I installed another version of MS Office.
The third problem was when it lost its bluetooth capabilities, although the bluetooth device had been detected as present.
I managed to get the second and third problems fixed by a friend. However, after two weeks, the two problems have returned...TA-RAAA !
I can only recommen other people to stay away from Lenovo right now !
Does anyone know if I can return my Lenovo laptop and get a refund for it, so I can get something else like a Toshiba or an Asus ? Thanks very much !

sorry to say that but refund is not possible at this point. have you tried to contact lenovo support line to ship it back to service for your issues?

It's yours. No returns allowed after the return date unless the store management allows it. Since you have had it for over a month, you could have easily decided it wasn't the right one for you and returned it within the acceptable amount of time.

I would think you cannot return a product after the return date has passed.

Best way to get some information about this is to call Lenovo Post sales team.
Try calling Lenovo Sales team and ask for options.
