A question related to reseting an admin's password

If I do the steps shown on this page for mountain lion: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5122468?start=0  will it have any affect on any other non-admin users on the iMac or affect anything other than the admin's password?

Welcome to Apple Support Communities
If you reset the password for your administrator account, your other users won't be modified, so you can do it without worrying. You may lose the keychain of your administrator account, but not on others

  • How to reset local admin user password in

    Dear members,
i want to reset local admin account(not administrator built-in), let say i have user adminlocal and member in administrator group. my question, how to reset this user via GPO in domain, because i have more than 5000 workstation in my environment. and how to
generate summary of all workstation which are password reset.
    i've tried from this link,
    http://community.spiceworks.com/how_to/show/1966-how-to-change-local-user-or-admin-passwords-on-remote-computers
using PSTools sysinternal from microsoft, but while i execute one PC on domain for sample using this script, they showing access denied
anyone in this forum can help me to resolve this problem?.

    Dear,
you can use Powershell to do this.
I've found a script in the script center which can do this.
    http://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/scriptcenter/66a5b38f-cdf1-4126-aa0c-be65e16dd650/view/Discussions#content
    Set-Password -computer 'server' -user 'Administratorlocal'
You can create a loop in powershell to check all your servers which you've posted in a .txt file for example.
    $strcomputers = Get-Content c:\servers.txt
    foreach ($strcomputer in $strcomputers)
    $admin=[adsi]("WinNT://" + $strComputer + "/administratorlocal, user")
    $admin.psbase.invoke("SetPassword", "Whatever1")

  • Trying to reset master admin without discs

    Hi,
I am trying to reset the admin master password of my friend's Ibook so I can
wipe the drive and install newer OSX. He does not have the original Panter cds, so
we are in a bind. I tried to use my Tiger cd but it would not boot from it.
I then read online that this can be done in the Terminal via booting up in "single mode" I did this and the Ibook booted with a terminal kind of black screen.
I tried to enter this code but it does not go to the 3rd line:
    /sbin/fsck -y [Enter]
*(after I hit enter it says in next line: -sh: /: is a directory)*
    /sbin/mount -uw / [Enter]
*(after I hit enter it says in next line: -sh: /: is a directory)*
    rm /var/db/.applesetupdone [Enter]
*(after I hit enter it says in next lines:)*
    rm: /: is a directory
rm: db: No such file or directory
    rm: /: rm /: is a directory
rm: .applesetupdone: No such file or directory)
    reboot [Enter]
Anyone can tell me what I'm doing wrong? Or easier way? I also must type code to make it work with a lot spaces..like this:
ANY TIPS HELP..I am no teminal pro..
    / sbin / fsck -y
    Thanks
tried this too but same applesetupdone does not reply well
    even AppleSetupdone

Synewave, How are you going to install a new OS if you wipe the drive clean?
Your Tiger CD?? is most likely a DVD. Perhaps the computer doesn't have DVD capabilities. Or your Tiger discs are model specific..for your iMac or PowerBook etc. and does not recognize that type of Mac.
My suggestion is to buy a retail Install disc for the other computer. If it does not have a DVD you could restore the disc to a partition on a FireWire Drive, using Disk Utility.app then boot and install from that.

  • I don't remember my admin (login) password and can't reset it

I'm trying to reset my "admin"/user password but can't figure it out??

If the user account is associated with an Apple ID, and you know the Apple ID password, then maybe the Apple ID can be used to reset your user account password.
Otherwise*, boot into Recovery mode. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. In the window that opens, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window opens. Close the Terminal window to get it out of the way.
Select your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Follow the prompts to reset the password. It's safest to choose a password that includes only the characters a-z, A-Z, and 0-9.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.
You should now be able to log in with the new password, but your Keychain will be reset (empty.) If you've forgotten the Keychain password (which is ordinarily the same as your login password), there's no way to recover it.
*Note: If you've activated FileVault, this procedure doesn't apply. Follow instead these instructions.

  • Changing the weblogic admin user password

I have faced an issue in reseting weblogic admin user password. Following are the steps i have executed in sequence.please help to understand why it is not working this way
I have 2 managed instances running on two separate computers.
`Step 1.` shutdown the admin server instance ( i did not shutdown the node manager and other 2 manage server instances
`Step 2.` Set the environment variables
    `cd $DOMAIN_HOME/bin`
    . ./setDomainEnv.sh
`Step 3.` then executed the command below to create the new password
    cd ../security
    mv DefaultAuthenticatorInit.ldift oldDefaultAuthenticator
    java weblogic.security.utils.AdminAccount weblogic new_password .
`Step 4.` backed up existing `boot.properties` file and created a new file. Also backed up data directory of admin server. created a new `boot.properties` file with following configuration
with plain text username(weblogic_admin) and password (new_password).
    cd ../servers/AdminServer
    mv data data_old
    cd security/
    mv boot.properties oldboot.properties
Step 5. Then i restarted the admin server. admin server is restarted successfully and i was able to login the admin console with my new username and password. Issue came when i try to shoutdown the admin server. when i execute sh stopWeblogicAdmin.sh , it will through following exception. But , if i kill the admin server process , then i am able to start the admin server with out any problem. and i am able to login to the server also. I am also able to stop and start manage server instances through admin console. But why it is failing only when i try to stop.could anybody help me on this

    Hi,
This issue was occurring because stopWebLogic.sh was picking the username and password from properties user config files in user's home directory: username-WebLogicConfig.properties, username-WebLogicKey.properties.
If the credentials for weblogic server are changed then new user config files should be created, if these are not created then stopWebLogic.sh will pick up the old credentials and hence fail.
Please refer the following document for information on user configuration files:
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E21764_01/web.1111/e13813/reference.htm#WLSTC430
Connecting to the server after deleting username-WebLogicConfig.properties, username-WebLogicKey.properties resolves the issue as it forces the script to use the credentials provided by the user while running stopWebLogic.sh
There are two ways you can resolve this issue:
    1) Create new user config files with the correct credentials as explained in the following document:
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E21764_01/web.1111/e13813/reference.htm#WLSTC430
    Or
    2) To force the stopWeblogic.sh script to use credentials provided by the user while running the script follow these steps:
In the stopWeblogic.sh file use the following connect command:
    connect(userConfigFile='',userKeyFile='', url='${ADMIN_URL}', adminServerName='${SERVER_NAME}')instead of:
    connect(${userID} ${password} url='${ADMIN_URL}', adminServerName='${SERVER_NAME}')Hence in the stopWebLogic.sh script replace:
    echo "import os" >"shutdown.py"
    echo "if os.environ.has_key('wlsUserID'):" >>"shutdown.py"
    echo " wlsUserID = os.environ['wlsUserID']" >>"shutdown.py"
    echo "if os.environ.has_key('wlsPassword'):" >>"shutdown.py"
    echo " wlsPassword = os.environ['wlsPassword']" >>"shutdown.py"
    echo "connect(${userID} ${password} url='${ADMIN_URL}', adminServerName='${SERVER_NAME}')" >>"shutdown.py"
    echo "shutdown('${SERVER_NAME}','Server')" >>"shutdown.py"
    echo "exit()" >>"shutdown.py"with:
    echo "import os" >"shutdown.py"
    echo "if os.environ.has_key('wlsUserID'):" >>"shutdown.py"
    echo " wlsUserID = os.environ['wlsUserID']" >>"shutdown.py"
    echo "if os.environ.has_key('wlsPassword'):" >>"shutdown.py"
    echo " wlsPassword = os.environ['wlsPassword']" >>"shutdown.py"
    echo "connect(userConfigFile='',userKeyFile='', url='${ADMIN_URL}', adminServerName='${SERVER_NAME}')" >>"shutdown.py"
    echo "shutdown('${SERVER_NAME}','Server')" >>"shutdown.py"
    echo "exit()" >>"shutdown.py"

  • Can anyone help.  For security reasons I reset my admin password on my Macbook Pro a few days ago and didn't write it down.  Now I've forgotten it.  I didnt receive an installation disc when I purchased my Macbook Pro online - it didn't come with one-help

Please see question above, but also note, I have the Applecare Protection Plan but am unable to get through to anyone on a weekend and I desperately need to use my laptop this weekend.  I can't log in at all now as I've forgotten my admin password.  A few weeks ago I also changed the password on my husband's new MacBook Pro and again forgot the password.  I spoke to someone at Apple and they helped me to reset it within minutes, by restarting the computer holding Command+something else (I can't remember what it was). A black screen with writing came up and I had to type in something like "password" (not sure exactly).  Anyway, this was a very quick and efficient process but I didn't write it down unfortunately.  Does anyone out there know what to do?  Thanks in anticipation

    Hi, lisafromspanish fork.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I am not sure which operating system you are using; however, here are the steps that will walk you through changing an admin account password.

I'm trying to reset my apple ID password but forgot my security questions. Apple are sending the confirmation e-mail to the wrong address, please help?

    Hello AndrewsAFCx,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities!
If you cannot remember your security questions for your Apple ID, I would recommend these steps outlined in the article named:
Apple ID: All about Apple ID security questions
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5665
What should I do if I don't remember the answers to my Apple ID security questions?
Try answering them at least once to see if you can get them right, even if you are not sure you remember the answers to your security questions.
If you are confident you can't remember them, try one of the following:
If you have three security questions and a rescue email address
sign in to My Apple ID and select the Password and Security tab to send an email to your rescue email address to reset your security questions and answers.
If you have one security question and you know your Apple ID passwordsign in to My Apple ID and select the Password and Security tab to reset your security question.
If you have one security question, but don't remember your Apple ID password
contact Apple Support for assistance. Learn more about creating a temporary support PIN to help Apple confirm your identity when you contact Apple Support.
Note: If you have forgotten your password and answer your security questions incorrectly too many times in a row, you will be unable to try to answer your security questions for a period of time. During that time you will not be able to reset your password and will not have access to your account.
    All the best,
    Sterling

  • HT5624 I need to reset my Apple ID password, but it says that my security questions are not correct and I no longer have access to the email it sends the correct information to. Please help!

I need to reset my Apple ID password, but it says that my security questions were not answered correctly.  The email address associated with the questions to reset the answers is no longer available to me. It is my old college email.  Does anyone know how to change this email? The unavailable email is not in my list of emails approved in my Apple ID settings.

You cannot and need to ask Apple to reset your security questions; ways of contacting them include clicking here and picking a method for your country, phoning AppleCare and asking for the Account Security team, and filling out and submitting this form.

  • How do i reset my laptops permission without resetting my admin password?

Listen, I have a school laptop and ofcoarse they have put their own tweaked operating system on their that blocks me from accessing different parts of my laptop and opening any third party apps. As any mac person like myself I have worked my way around the permissions by using a 'ksadmin' file in a particular MacOS folder. You would think now that I have worked this out why would I need to reset my permissions. Well it's because I cannot drag anything into the applications folder and there are some games and files that the 'ksadmin' will not run. The purpose of the 'ksadmin' file is to trick the containing folder that I am actually an administartior of this laptop. So could someone please tell me how to reset my permissions without resetting the admin password. If i reset the admin pasword (I have before) they will find out!
    Thanks
    Daniel

Then, I'd give it back to them and insist on one with the factory-provided OS. Barring that, put a bootable backup/clone onto an ext HD, boot into recovery mode, wipe the drive, and restore the OS. That will be Apple's nonbutchered OS. Then, on first boot use the Setup Assistant to migrate from the backup/clone.
