A Sad Day for Creative Own

Let me start this post off with something positi've.<br ><br >
I am a long time Creative enthusiast. I have only ever purchased Creative sound cards, and they have all worked great. I also purchased a Zen XTRA 30gb a few years ago, and it still works great (battery life is waning, but that's to be expected at this long). I have never had to contact customer support for *ANYTHING* regarding the soundcards (Li've! 5. Value and Audigy 2 Platinum) or my Zen XTRA 30gb.<br ><br >
I purchased a Zen Micro on July 27th, and that's where the enthusiasm sto
ps.
I bought a 5gb Zen Micro Black, Refurbished, on Creative's eBay Store. The price was right (at 59.99) and since it was Refurbished, it should have had all the defects the original owner had fixed. Everything seemed gravy. I uploaded my favorite music to it, had no problems and was listening to music within hours. It was perfect, to me, because it was tiny, held all that I needed for my day to day listening "needs". Sounds good eh? I read these forums about all the problems people had with their Zen Micros... and I figured I was lucky.<br ><br >
...until yesterday.<br ><br >
(DISCLAIMER: The Zen Micro I am describing has never been mishandled since I have owned it. Never dropped, never jostled, never left in a hot car, or exposed to any sort of pressure/jolt/etc. I can make no claims to the care the previous owner of the player took-- there was a name entered into the player when I took it out of the box which leads me to believe there WAS a previous owner... unless Creative likes to enter random names for you)<br ><br >
I went out to mow the lawn, like I usually do, and listen to music. Mowing the lawn isn't exactly a "vigorous" activity and doesn't involve any jumping up and down, running, wrestling, or extreme sports. I tried turning on the player, but it didn't turn on. I thought that was funny because I was listening to it the day before, and it still had full battery power when I turned it off. So I plugged it in, because I thought somehow the battery must have died (maybe I had left the alarm function set up). Well, as soon as I plugged it in and moved the power slider, it glowed to life -- sort of -- and showed the battery as being 2/3's charged (remember, it wouldn't turn on by itself).<br ><br >
So it turned on... but that's all it did. Normally when you turn on the Zen.. it...you know, takes you to the Now Playing screen or the Menu (depending on when you turned it off) right? Well... not in this case. Turning on and glowing is ALL it did. So I unplugged it, took out the battery, put the battery back in, tried turning it on, and I got to the CREATIVE logo, and then it froze again, in the same fashion. Although I noticed that the screen was very dim afterwards and I could barely make out the next screen that was supposed to display ... but it was frozen there. I went through the unplug, unbattery, rebattery method again, and this time went to the recovery menu. I tried doing a Clean Up and a Format, but each time I tried, the process would get to exactly 39&#37; and stop. I'm not sure what is so magic about the number 39, but no matter how many times I tried, 39&#37;, 39&#37;, 39&#37;!<br ><br >
So I called up Creative tonight at -405-742-6655, explained the problem to the first guy I talked to, and he told me to call -800-998-000 and to select option . So I did. I explained my problem to the guy that answered, and he transferred me to the eBay department. I then explained my problem a third time, and was told to call the -406-742-6655 number, which I actually recited to him, because he didn't know the number. That aside, I called the first number up again, and spoke to someone else, who said I should have been taliing to the eBay guy, but I explained what I had been through already, and she checked on it and decided to "help" me. And by "help", I mean sell. Once I got through explaining the problem (this is the fourth time, if you're counting), and she asked me to hold several times while she "checked what my position was within the warranty". After about 5 minutes of holding, I was told that the repairs for the problems I described would cost $50. I was in shock, since I had only paid $0 more for the player, which I pointed out to her. Not dissuaded, she continued with the point that I (and I am directly quoting now) "should just buy the new Zen Micro player, because [I] will have a warranty again and will get noise cancelling headphones as well." I asked to speak with a manager, and was put in touch with her supervisor (after about 0 more minutes of holding). He was no more helpful than she was, and explained that I was responsible for all repairs, even if it was a manufacturer defect. He also tried to sell me on the "buy a new player and shut up" thing as well.<br ><br >
Excuse me? I've had this player for not even 4 months, it goes defecti've, and I am told to buy another one? I thought only APPLE did this kind of bait and switch tactic! I can't afford to pay for another player; THAT IS THE REASON I CALLED TO GET IT FIXED!<br ><br >
Creative's management must have changed between the time I purchased my Zen XTRA and Zen Micro, because I never expected this kind of "it's your problem, not ours; we are not capable of manufacturer and design defects" attitude that I WOULD expect of Apple with their iPods. Let me emphasize that I will *never* buy an Apple iPod; primarily because of the non-replaceable battery and non-standard cables (among other things). HOWEVER, I can certainly say now that I have NO confidence whatsoever in Creative as a manufacturer of digital media players. They have not only abandoned me for a problem that I did not create, but brushed me off as if I should have expected it would happen in the first place.<br ><br >
I would like to hear other people's experiences about their players and interaction with customer support, because I am absolutely appalled, and without the player I paid $60 for.<br ><br >
Hoping for better,
Brendan C.

Your not the first and certinly not the last to have this issue. It seems that the hard dri've used on the Zen Micro and other players, such as my own, has this problem. The hard dri've is a Seagate ST dri've. And by the looks of it only the 5gb model is affected as I have yet to read of someone with a 4gb or a 6gb Micro with this problem.
If this problem is really that big, we should get a petition started to recall the players with these dri'ves, or offer FREE service to get the faulty dri've replaced. This would be similar to the headphone jack issue which affected soo many players that Creative is now offering free service to repair it.
This hard dri've problem is not just a few dozen or so, it is a BIG percentage of players given the number of posts over the course of almost a year with the Zen Micro and the Dell Pocket DJ which is built by Creative and uses the same 5GB Seagate ST dri've.
But I must say. This problem does NOT affect all 5GB Zen Micro's or Dell Pocket DJ's. Its only some. And it does not matter if your player has been under extreme care or been mishandled. Personally my player has been mishandled and suffers my daily commute to school which involves alot of shaking and other things which has been suggested time and time again not to do with a hard dri've player, such as running, working out, even mowing the lawn. And it has not skipped a beat ever, still works flawlessly just like the first day I got it. So I know first hand it doesn't affect all 5GB Seagate ST dri'ves.
I would love to hear a response from Creative regarding this issue. Or Seagate even.Message Edited by DM on -08-2005 0:5 AM

Nothing personal to you or Rajshee, but this is exactly why I absolutely despise these "community forums" (not just Adobe but any company).  I called the Tech Support phone line today after digging and digging for a phone number, and they told me the exact opposite, and they did it a lot faster than it was possible to get a forum response.  (That's really not personal, because you can't control that, but it's a fact.)
Their answer: As long as I'm signed in with the same ID, I can try, say, Photoshop CC on my iMac at home and also try Acrobat Pro CC on my Windows 7 machine at work.  Same account, same login, one trial.
This makes complete sense to me as I'm financially on the hook (potentially) for the same package.  If I give away my login to someone else, which I wouldn't do, I'm still on the hook.  This is why the cloud approach to software is such genius and I applaud it.
BTW, 99% of the "community forum" wrong answers come on Microsoft sites, so don't feel bad.

Btw, earlier this evening I upgraded my laptop to CC 2014. Is that the problem? I thought we could have the program on two different computers, as long as they're the same user and not being used at the same time.

  • I served my 90 days for downloading a past perchase on a diiferent account but now after my time is served I still can't download my own past purchases what do i do?

I served my 90 days for purchasing a past perchase on anther account but now after the 90 days I tried to download one of my own past purchases but it wont let me. What should I do?

No you should be able to sign in with your other (old) Apple ID and could download your purchased media. If you do that please note, that would have to wait for another 90 days, if you then would like to change it back to the other (newer) account again.

  • Message to Creative. Release your RC3 driver for your own car

I find it quite strange that Creative ship OEM drivers (beta ones) for Prelude series of cards, but totally forgets to release the same driver for its own range of cards. Why I , mean if Auzentech can use them on retail products, I see no reason why Creative can't. Don't you see what's happening out there Are you blind You are loosing peoples trust! C'mon, wake up will you. If a mod or admin could ask this very question to your superiors I would be happy. /G ran A

The Prelude drivers apparently fixes the 4Gb issue with static sound among other things so there must be some really important changes made into the driver, that's why I'm so puzzled that Creative fails to support its own customers. I know I read somwhere that the president of Creative said that the drivers will be fixed before November this year, he said that it had hurt the sails of cards due to poor Vista support etc. It looks like he might have kicked some butts at the driver departement, so let's have a beta out now to test, please! /G

  • A few questions before I buy a new iMac/Mac mini and sign up for Creative Cloud.

    Hello Everyone,
I am looking to purchase a new Apple computer and sign up for Creative Cloud within the next week and I have a few questions that should be answered before I proceed.
My wife and I own a business and we will be using the CS6 apps to create brochures, Constant Contact mailings, product package inserts, edit product photography for print and web use, and short HD how-to videos. We are not graphics professionals or power users and wont be doing anything too complicated.
Any help and answers will be greatly appreciated.
I will start with the hardware questions first:
I am trying to decide between the iMac and the Mac mini.
The iMac is a 2.7Ghz Quad-core Intel core i5 and comes with 4GB of memory that is expandable to 16GB, which I will do for sure. It comes with a Radeon HD 6770M graphics card with 512MB of GDDR5 memory(not upgradable), and a 1TB HDD that runs at 7200RPM. This unit meets the specs required.
The 2.5Ghz Mac Mini comes with 4GB of memory that is expandable to 8GB, I will also do this. It has a Radeon HD 6630M graphics card with 256MB of GDDR5 memory(not upgradable), and a 500GB HDD that runs at 5400RPM. This unit meets all the spec(I think) except for the speed of the HDD.
Question: Will the mini run the software without too much of an issue considering the speed of the HDD?
Question: Will the iMac run the software significantly better to justify the price difference?
I already have 1 mini(purchased 4 months ago, with the same specs listed above) and will be purchasing a second computer for my wifes desk. If the mini will run CS6 fine, that is great and we can save a few bucks. If my mini will not run CS6 well, I will get the iMac for her desk as she will be doing the bulk of the work in that regard anyway.
Now a couple of software questions.
After reading hundreds of reviews and forum posts over the last few days I have seen many people having this or that issue. It seems to me that most of the issues are because of upgrades from Lion to Mountian Lion after installing CS6 first or trying to open CS3,4,5 files in CS6.
If you want to know what issues have me concerned take a look at just this one forum:
    http://blogs.adobe.com/jnack/2012/07/adobe-cs-apps-mountain-lion-no-known-issues.html
Similar issues are discussed in the Apple forums as well as many other places around the web.
I am not a computer professional but I know enough to maintain my systems and keep them running smoothly.
We do not have any Adobe software installed on my mini and will not be opening any files from previous versions of Adobe product in the new CS6 software. These will be a clean installs on pristine systems running fully updated Mountian Lion OS's on both machines and creating new files from scratch.
Question: Should I be expecting any issues like the ones I have read in the forums and blogs or are these just the normal things that happen when upgrading to new software with multiple hardware configurations?
My feeling is that we will not be having too much of a problem due to the clean installs and no files from previous versions.
Next up, the Creative Cloud(CC) FAQ states that you can install on 2 machines but can't open stuff at the same time.
Question: Does this mean we can't be using any CS6 apps at the same time or just not using the same app at the same time?
Example: PS and PS on both machines at same time = No, PS on one and Dreamweaver on the other at the same time=Yes?
The CC FAQ page says Adobe will add Lightroom 4 later in 2012 while the main CC page lists it as available now.
    Question: Which is true?
My mini is registered to me, with my name, iTunes account, Apple ID etc.
Question: Do I need to do the initial set-up of the new machine with all my information to ensure the CS6 suite works on both machines? Do the computers need to be registered(as far as Apple configuration is concerned) to same person for them to work on one CC account or can I install CS6 on any 2 machines regardless of how they were initially set-up?
This may seem like a silly question but I want to avoid any problems before they happen.
Well, those are all of my questions at the moment. To anyone who made it this far in my looooong post, Thank You so much for your time. I appreciate your expertise and knowledge and hope that you can help me make this decision.
    Cheers,
    Alex Bogdan

    Alex,
I'll try and answer your questions as best I can.
    Qn 1 Which Mac.
Ans:- As I understand it both units will run Adobe CS6.
Which one really depends on what you wand from CS6. If you are looking for high end demand and performance, then I would go for the IMac
Your Specs for the Imac are right. However if you buy your IMac straight from Apple there are even higher specs.
              You can get:-
3.4 GHz i7 processor rather than the i5
2GB video card as opposed to a 1Gb video card.
Of course such a model will cost you more.
In the end it is needs compared with money to spend. That is only a decision you cam make.
Q2:- Will the higher cost for the Imac justify copst.
Ans:- Again it depends on what demands you intend to make on the hardware and software.
But I note you have a business and if that businees expects to high demand and high speedy performance then I suspect the Imac would be more able to provide your needs.
Again only you will know the answer to that.
    Q3:- Questions about CS6 reliability
Ans:- I have been with Adobe for way over 10 years.
Speaking, only for myself, it is the most reliable software on the market.
It is true that if you look down this form, like any other and I am thinking about the Apple discussions forum, you will find numerous instances of problems.
Again this is only my opinion, but although all these problems are real for the individuals:-
First it is not clear why they have the problem e.g. what have they done or not done.
Second, they are in the minority of the total users using the hardware / software.
The only problem I am aware of with CS6 is Acrobat X. I understand it has been sorted Adobe, however it cost me so much work I have removed it from my system and reverted to Acrobat 9
So what I am saying is that there are only two comapnies I rely 100% on: They are Adobe and Apple.
So if you are happy with my opinion I would not worry about Adobe CS6
    Qn 4:- CS6 0n 2 machines.
Ans:- Yes you will not be able to run the same program similtaneosly.
I believe, if it is important that you do run the same program together, that you can acquire a further licience from Adobe to do that.
You would need to contact Adobe about that.
    Qn 5:- Lightroom 4
Ans:- Lightroom is now available as part of Creative Cloud.
Qn 6:- Set up for individual machines
Ans:- I do not believe you do. Once you have set up your Creative Cloud account you go to the apps site and download the apps for each machine.
Each machine downloads the apps and your machine and the apps are registered by Adobe.
Here is something that you may want to know:-
Because I was so unhappy loosing all the Acrobat data with Acrobat X I ended up deleting Acrobat X
However as far as Creative Cloud is concered Acrobat X is still on my machine.
It is not a problem for me because I am happy with Acrobat 9, it fullfils my needs and has not crashed and lost me all my bookmarks.
              However here is the point:-
Adobe, when there was a problem with Acrobat X requested that no-one deletes the application.
Though I do not know for certain I believe registration of the apps you have with Creative Cloud are registered with Creative Cloud in their database. Therefore were you to delete an app, it will still be registered with Creative Cloud and you will not be able to download a further copy even though the app is no longer on your    machine.
Therefore it maybe not a good idea to delete an app when you no longer have a use for it. If you want it back I suspect you will have to contact Adobe Support
    Personal Comment:-
It is true many unfortunately have had all sorts of problems, including me with Acrobat X.
That said, Creative Cloud in my view has been a major advance in how Adobe delivers software. I have no regrets with signing up to Creative Cloud and I expect to remain with it.
Hope all of that goes some way to answering your questions.

  • Windows 7 - Driver Availability Chart For Creative Products is nearly useless

<span class="text">[url="http://support.creative.com/kb/showarticle.aspx?sid=605">Windows 7 - Driver Availability Chart For Creative Products[/url] is outdated Windows pre-release drivers (at least for the Audigy SB0090 series) back from July. This appear to be revamped Vista drivers that are not usable for W7 RTM. MS made changes to W7 where most Vista drivers do not work properly any more.
When I try to install the drivers through the installer I get the incompatibility error and the installer quits, then I get the failed install pop-up for W7.
What I would like to know is when Creative plans on releasing drivers that work with W7 RTM? Llinking drivers that worked for W7 RC is not helping and really should be removed.
I have used Creative sound cards since just before the SB6 came out. I have been a loyal Creative customer from early on. But if Creative can not deali'ver a fully working driver suit for my sound card by the end of the month (November) I would appreciate knowing so I can start looking for another a replacement, which won't be a Creative product.
Even though my last 3 MBs have had good built-in sound, I have went out and bought Creative sound cards because I wanted the best, which Creative has previously provided.
I need to upgrade my MB so I have put of buying a new sound card until I do. But if I'm forced to buy a new sound card because Creative says it will provide drivers that work with W7 RTM and for what ever reason can not do so, I will not be buying another Creative product.
I maintain 4 PCs of my own so that will be 4 cards bought from a competitor since Creative has completely dropped the ball. All major component manufacturers have been able to release stable drivers at the same time as W7 RTM release , or within days after release. Why hasn't Creative been able to do so? Creative was able to release suitable drivers for RC in a timely fashion, what happened with W7 RTM? Did they recently fire all the programs and techs?
Please do not link useless info. Please find out what is going on and tell the powers-that-be at Creative they have some really upset customers and ask them to tell us what is happening here. Tell them we would like to know when Creative plans on releasing drivers for W7 RTM so we can make the decision to wait it out or buy replacements.

Again, yes Device Manager has no problem detecting the card and W7 has no problem loading the default Window drivers for it.
Since I had to replace my TV Tuner Card, I used Device Manager to remove it and my Audigy card and then shut the PC down. My new TV Tuner Card is a PCI-E x so I installed it in an open slot and move the Audigy to the PCI slot where the old TV Tuner Card was.
When I started my PC again, W7 detected the Audigy card and loaded the defeult drivers. I again tried to use the installer and had the same error.
The sound works, but I only have basic Windows functions/controls.
It is most definately not a hardware issue.
The online auto update detects it, just the installer does not detect it.
I am currently awaiting a response from CS now. Of course the problem there is that you have to wait/respond, wait/respond, wait/respond just to cover the same ground that has been gone over a hundrd times already.
I put every step I have done in the email. As usual, it was a waste to type because you are asked questions already answered and to preform steps already done.
It would be nice if CS would realize that some of us are only contacting CS because we have already done all the standard steps without success and now need to move onto the advanced ste

  • Double-charged for Creative Cloud Membership - I need a refund!

My student subscription was automatically cancelled and switched to a regular subscription. Adobe never told me, but I saw on my bank statement that I had been charged $24.99 instead of $14.99.
When I first contacted Adobe and asked for a refund, the customer support rep told me to simply cancel my old subscription and create a new student subscription with my student account. I did this, and then I was charged a FURTHER $14.99 under this new subscription, for the 'new month' that I had already been charged for (that was the original $24.99 payment).
I have now tried twice to contact Adobe's support service, and both times I have heard excuses such as 'There is a technical fault with our systems - when I try to refund you $24.99, it only lets me refund you $14.99' or 'I will escalate this to a higher team member'. I have yet to hear back from Adobe and it has now almost been a month since the double charge, and I am worried I am going to be charged AGAIN (or worse, twice again) in the next month if I don't get this resolved.
Please assist, and in future, please tell your customers before you start charging random balances to their credit cards.

    Hi aagirlz
An email is sent 30 days prior to the annual renewal date with details of the renewal price.  Sometimes this might go to your spam/junk folders so it's worth checking there.
When you signed up for Creative Cloud at the promotional price, the offer terms would have explained that the promotional price is valid for 12 months and then you renew at the standard price for that plan.
The current student/teacher offer terms can be viewed here: Creative Cloud free trial & plans : Adobe Creative Cloud

I am no musician, but have owned an iMac now for around four years. During that time I have had Garageband installed. I have dipped in and out very occasionally as I would like nothing more than to be able to get my head around it just for my own amusement really. I would at least like to be able to record my electric guitar with loops and tracks etc, just try to be a bit creative and see what comes out. The problem that I have is that perhaps its me, but every time I try to get to grips with this software, I just can't seem to get my head around it, even to begin to do something. I have now recently downloaded 10.0.2 which is confusing in itself, as, as far as I can ascertain that is actually version 11, but I'm not even sure about that. I have also recently purchased a Rocksmith RealTone Cable to connect my guitar. I can sometimes get a sound come out, but nothing to brilliant. And every time I try to set something up, it just doesn't seem to work out. I end up hitting buttons and controls in the simple hope that I may hit the correct control in order to get some sort of result. But I'm kind of fumbling in the dark with this. I have trawled the Internet just trying to find either a good manual or video tutorials for absolute beginners, but there just simply doesn't seem to be anything of that nature out there and what there is appears always to be very sketchy and not particularly detailed in explaining anything properly, and so I always find myself seemingly jumping in with both feet and just struggling to try and find a foothold with this on how to really begin. It is so frustrating as I can see the fantastic potential of this software, but just can't understand how to use it properly. If there is anyone out there who may be able to offer me some advice with this, I would be most grateful indeed... Many Thanks.

I have now recently downloaded 10.0.2 which is confusing in itself, as, as far as I can ascertain that is actually version 11, but I'm not even sure about that.
Version 10.0.2 is the newest version and the successor to GarageBand '11 (version 6.0.5).
The '11 is referring to the iLife '11 suit of multimedia application - the older GarageBand was a part of this bundle.
Have a look at Edgar's graphical enhanced manuals, the explain very detailed how things work and why. You can buy them as iBooks from the iBook store or directly from the page:

This was part of the original thread you responded too but I have branched out your discussion to make it more specific.  This is already discussed under the Touch Apps FAQ - http://www.adobe.com/products/touchapps/faq.html.  Here is the relevant excerpt:
Customers who sign up for an annual membership to Creative Cloud or who buy a 12-month prepaid card at a retailer or online store will be eligible for a free month of Creative Cloud when they purchase and sign in from three qualifying Adobe Touch Apps from Google Play or the Apple App Store. This includes Adobe Collage, Adobe Debut, Adobe Ideas, Adobe Kuler, Photoshop Touch, and Adobe Proto.
Customers who purchase an annual membership directly from Adobe and qualify for this offer will not be charged for the month of service following sign-in from their third Adobe Touch App.
Customers who purchase a 12-month prepaid card from a retailer or online store and qualify for this offer will have one month added to the duration of their membership.
Creative Cloud members will be notified about their free month within 60 days of signing in to their third qualifying Adobe Touch App
