A weird beep on Document.remove(0, 0)

Dear friends,
in some lines of my code, the statement
field.remove(0,  field.getLength());generates a beep in the sound card... it is really weird...
a question: is there a better way to clean a document instead of remove(offset, length) ??

It's not clear why you're getting a beeping sound.
I guess it's possible that something's calling LookAndFeel.provideErrorFeedback - this beeps by default. You could always try overriding this method in your LnF to dump the stack to find out what might be causing it:
public class MyLnF extends MetalLookAndFeel {
  public void provideErrorFeedback(Component comp) {
    Thread.dumpStack();
    super.provideErrorFeedback(comp);
}You never know, it might show you something useful...

  • Using Examine Document Remove increases pdf file size !

    Hi,
I have Adobe Acrobat Pro v9.3.0
I've been editing a lot of scanned .pdfs - rotating and cropping pages.
All this has previously worked fine with v8 but now I find that Acrobat 9 is increasing the .pdf file size after using Examine Document and clicking Remove
    For example:
    original file: 16,861 Kbytes
file after cropping 74 pages (from A4 to A5): 16,879 Kbytes
file after running Examine Document > Remove cropped metadata : 79,914 Kbytes !!!
With Acrobat 8 this process would normally have halved the file size.
Am I now doing something wrong ??
    Thanks in advance.

Hello - This problem is still here !
    Acrobat 9 Pro version 9.4.2
I've got a .pdf created by an agency (so not a scanned image) which I want to make as small as possible for emailing to hundreds of people (I'll attach it if possible somehow ?)
    I open it up when it's 331Kb
    Click Document > Examine Document
Check the Metadata and Deleted/Cropped items
    Click Remove
Click File > Save As and hey presto, the new file with all that stuff supposedly removed is 2,588 Kb
Surely I'm not the only one who's bothered about .pdf file size ?

  • Weird beeping sound?

When I put my audio track on the timeline and I add keyframes so that the music will fade in, I get this weird beeping sound instead of hearing the music. Im new with this so any help would be appreciated. thanks

What kind of music file? FCE doesn't like MP3s. If that is what you are using, use iTunes to convert them to AIFF files that match your sequence audio settings

  • Making weird beeping noises

Does anyone know why an ipod mini might be making weird beeping noises. It makes like 9 beeping noises in a row, each note lower than the one previous. And it just keeps repeating this same 9 beeps. ??? Things seem to be working properly, but I worry that there is some kind of problem. Any help would be lovely .
    Thanks,
    Jamie

I recently restored my ipod. I completely erased all the songs off of it & everything. It still beeps. There doesn't seem to be much of a correlation of the beeping with anything. It usually does it right when I plug it into my computer. It does it quite frequently when plugged in - usually when I try to play certain songs on my iTunes. I tried deleting the songs that make it beep , but it doesn't get rid of the problem because sometimes the songs make it beep, sometimes it doesn't. While it is beeping, I can't do anything in iTunes - it totally locks up. When it beeps when it's not plugged into the computer, it's usually when I select a song to play - no music is played and after the beeping stops, it skips the song I originally chose & goes to the next song. I'm not sure what to do from here. Should I delete all the songs off of my computer, reformat it again? I'd rather not... for many of the songs I have, the only copies I have are on the computer and it would take way too long to put them all on CD - so I'd rather not have to do that. Let me know if you have any idea on what I can do to remedy this problem. Thanks, Jamie

  • Weird beeping noises through front 1/8" jack (after wake from sleep)

    Hi,
I am experiencing a really weird problem on my month-old Mac Pro. Whenever I put the computer to sleep, and subsequently wake it up, I get troubled by weird beeping noises coming through whatever headphone/speaker is plugged in to the front headphone jack. These will seemingly randomly occur in either the left or right speaker.
The weird thing about these beeps is that they only occur after a sound has just stopped playing (doesn't matter the source, it can be after a system sound, a new mail sound, after playing a song in iTunes, ...), but they don't appear after every sound. What I mean is that I can play the same sound 10 times over, and the beeping noise will or will not occur completely randomly. Now normally the beeps are very short (and slightly annoying), but sometimes this beep will keep on beeping at a constant tone. The only way to get rid of it (temporarily) is to play a sound through the headphone/speaker, for example by increasing the volume so that the little 'tick'-sound plays or by dis- and then reconnecting the headphone/speaker.
I'm pretty certain that it isn't a software related problem, because once I have a constant beep going I can switch to my line-out on the back of the Mac and turn on the speakers connected there, without them being afflicted (I also never experienced this problem with sound playing via the back line out). What's more, the beeping sound will even then continue to be audible in the headphone connected to the front jack.
There doesn't seem to be any constant factor in this behavior, except that it only occurs after waking the computer from sleep. By now I have already had the front panel replaced, as the Apple reps thought it might be a faulty headphone jack, but to no avail. The matter is ofcourse complicated because I can't reproduce the problem on the fly, because of the random occurences, thus making it hard for the service people to actually get an idea what might be wrong.
As I don't feel like missing my computer again for a while, i thought I'd ask the collected wisdom on this forums if anyone has experienced a similar problem and, if that's the case, if they were perhaps able to find out what the exact cause of this behavior was?
    Thx in advance,
    Tim

Ah bummer (and here I was hoping it could be easily solved) .
I'll still try a fresh system install in a few days time, to make absolutely sure it isn't software-related (against better judgement perhaps in the light of your findings, but at least I'll be able to tell support its definitely not an sw problem). If indeed the problem persists I guess there won't be any other choice than to contact support again (But since I can't afford the computer not to be available for the coming 2 months I guess I'll have to bear it for the time being, which in turns also means I won't be able to let you know if it got fixed until I'm able to bring her in).
Oh and fyi, I also have a second hard-drive installed (Seagate Barracuda 500Gb, same as the factory installed primary one), but that cannot be the cause of the beeping, as I actually bought it because of this problem (to backup my important files while my Mac went in for service the first time). So we can't blame these poor drives for our problem .
Anyway, definitely thanks for chiming in (makes me feel a little bit better knowing that I'm at least not the only one experiencing this annoying problem, although obviously I wished I shouldn't have to feel better about this ) and I'll keep you updated on any further steps made towards solving this problem, even though it may take a while as explained above.
    Cheers!

  • MSI P35 Neo2-FR, Im having WEIRD beeps in BIOS continiously unstopping.

Oh dear lord, i bought a new board and now im having some stupid beeps going off every 3sec in the BIOS, i updated to 1.8 bios and now its going every 1sec, BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP, every time there is a beep the system hangs a bit, i pretty much cant do anything in BIOS and its getting on my nerves. What is causing this? I tried removing all the drives, my cpu fan is connected to molex not to the motherboard though. In windows they go away, a bit when loading windows logo and it hangs the windows logo too for a few times, then all leds go green, before im getting from top to bottom Green, Green, Green, Red, Green

Nothing helps, tried butting a fan into the cpu fan slot, nothing, tryed removing PCI cards, nothing, NOTHING helps, it just keeps beeping and hanging on those beeps in the BIOS. When it gets to windows load screen all is fine, the frick.
EDIT: Allright, the answer to this problem is, go to windows and do a restart from windows, go to BIOS and there is no more beeping. I did a save and exit and rewent to BIOS and still no beeping, then did the shutdown and power on to BIOS and no beeps. So, weird problem but an easy answer to fix it. I think its something to do with the motherboard booting for the first time, it just needed to go to windows and make a restart. Weeeeeiiiiird.
Cya, hope this helpes someone in the future.

  • Creating a new HTML document - removing "todos"

When creating a new HTML document in a KM repository (i.e. Folder > New > HTML File...), I get a form where I name my HTML document and enter the content etc. I can also choose, from a dropdown box, the document type between a Normal document or a "todos". My questions are the following:
    1) What is "todos" in this case? (I don't think it means "To Do's".)
    2) As a portal admin, how can I remove "todos" from the dropdown box or disable the dropdown box completely.
    Thank you

    Hi Mick,
sorry, quite late, but better than never
    > how can I remove "todos" from the dropdown box or
    > disable the dropdown box completely.
System Administration - System Configuration - KM - Configuration - CM - Global Services - Resource Types - Delete "todos".
    > What is "todos" in this case?
    > (I don't think it means "To Do's".)
I think that in fact some SAP developer wanted to mark this place that there would be more work to be done (Resource Types to be defined or so).
    Hope it helps

  • MacBook with weird beeping boot up?

Last night, my MacBook just shut off. I figured it was the logic board, because this has happened three times before on me (while in warranty).
But now I am a year out of warranty. I waited until the next day, and I tried turning it on. It made the chime, and had a loading bar before suddenly it went to a password log in screen. It said it was booting in safe mode. No matter what password I tried (and I KNOW all of my passwords, especially my Mac one), it wouldn't log me in.
So I hit back, thinking if I hit restart it might restart just not in safe mode.
The computer turns off, and the screen goes black, but it just starts beeping and beeping and beeping with a little white light at the bottom of my MacBook case.
The battery light is still working just to give that piece of information.
I am so worried that it is going to cost me thousands of dollars that I don't have just to fix it. I need a computer to apply for jobs (I lost mine recently due to budget cuts), and my résumé and all of my important documents are on there.
I am hoping so hard that Apple might just replace it or fix it because it has a known and documented history with problems that weren't my fault?
Anyone ever had luck with this? I'm going to see a genius tomorrow and if that doesn't help, call Apple a million times (What is the best and most responsive number for these sort of issues?)
    Thank you so much everyone!!

  • IdeaPad S10 loud beep upon insertion/removal of power cable?

    Hello All,
New poster here, just received my S10 and love it. My only issue is with the fact that every time I insert or remove tyhe power cable the system speaker beeps, loudly. This seems rather counterintuitive for a netbook, which is generally a pretty stealthy
device. I cannot find any setting to turn this off through windows. There is also no speaker setting in the bios.
Am I missing something? Is there a way to turn this off?
Any help on this subject would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,
    Justin

    No option in current BIOS.
Workaround - double-click Volume in the System Tray.  If a PC Beep slider doesn't show, then Select it under Options | Properties.  Slide the PC Beep volume down until bearable or off...
...hoping for a BIOS update with some more options...

  • Is there a way to recover documents removed from trash bin

Is there a way to recover word documents etc that have been removed from the trash bin? They must still be on the hard drive somewhere. Thanks for any help!

The problem is that your system no longer knows about the files - it has removed the pointer that tells it that those files exist, and where they start and end.
However, it may be possible to recover the files using a utility like Data Rescue. The less you've used the computer since you emptied the trash, the higher the likelihood of recovery. And I don't just mean reading/writing user files, since the system is constantly using "available" hard drive space as storage (for temp and log files).
    Good luck!

  • Weird beeping sound with audio

I am editing a movie for a class in college. I uploaded my audio which is an mp3 file and it play fine when I play it in the first viewer window, but when I play it in the play back window instead of sound its a weird loud beeping noise. if I take the slider and move it forward or back on the timeline it will play the music faster or slower...but if I push play it still has the sound...what's going on and how can I stop it! ASAP!!!!!

Hi - Click on the audio clip in the timeline to select it and type Command-R.
This will render the audio to match the sequence setting.
If you move or edit the audio track, you might have to render it again.
    Hope this helps.

  • Weird beeping/blinking. After reseting SMC the fan/battery is out of control.

I honestly just got my MacBook Pro back from the shop yesterday (it got a new harddrive) and the first time I let it run out of battery life, this happens.
So basically what's going on is that I cannot start up my computer unless I reset the SMC. When the beeping/blinking (it was the one beep/per second type) first started about an hour ago I immeditely reseted the SMC and that seemed to work... until, that was, the fans would not stop blaring and the battery is not showing up. Therefore, as soon as I unplug my charger my computer loses all power and goes right back to that single beep, therefore I have to reset the SMC again and the battery is still not showing up, cursing me to live out this day in and day out.
Is there anything I can do? I'm getting sick of resetting the date.

when you pay for a repair, it comes with a warranty, typically 90 days. Take it back to the people who touched it last and ask them to make sure it is working properly before returning it to you.
It is possible that a new problem has occurred, and that the timing is just unfortunate. But let them explain it.

  • Add Tags to Document removes spaces!

    Hi,
I have an untagged PDF from which I am trying to copy the text. The text pastes into InDesign with a paragraph mark at the end of each line.
If I add tags to document from Advanced>Accessibility, the copied text no longer has a paragrpah mark at the end of each line BUT all the spaces between words have been stripped out!
Does anyone know why this happens and is there anyway around it?
    Thanks,
    Simon Kemp

Content should not ever be deleted by adding tags, but it may appear so since - as you note - objects may go into hiding behind other objects. In theory you can bring them out of hiding by rearrange things in the Order pane, but I have much better luck using the Content pane - it provides a much finer level of control. If text is hidden behind a shaded box, for example, I will move the box above the text in the Content order, then usually convert the box to an artifact if it is not one already.
    Hope this helps.

  • Emailing a document removes extended features in form

    Hi all,
Spent hours on google and even with adobe tech support (1:45 - was nice of the guy to try for that long.. but no results).
I created a most basic form in Adobe 9 Pro Extended. Extended usage rights. On the computer I created it on, I can open it in Adobe Reader, fill out the forms, and submit it with no issues.
When I email it my second PC to test it, I get the (dreaded):
" This document enabled extended features in Adobe Reader. The document has been changed since it was created and use of extended features is no longer available. Please contact the author for the original version of this document".
But, nothing has changed. It was simply emailed.
Both PC's are running Windows 7, With MS Office 2010, both have fully updated Adobe Reader, and my Adobe 9 Pro extended is fully updated.
Any thoughts? Adobe escalated it to some super tech support group that is supposed to call me within 24 hours, but it's put a project of mine on hold (and driving me nuts) so trying to find a solution.
    Thanks,
    C

Sadly, it was a time stamp issue.
My times were correct, but I had one PC (the one I created it on) was off by 1 day for some reason. So when I sent it out it said it was incorrect because the document was 'created' at a time that didn't yet exist.
I read something about the time being off (timezones) but not dates. So silly, and thanks for the replies.
