ABAP + Java Support Pack installation
When updating support packs in an ABAP+Java environment (ECC 6.0), is there any reason why one could not do the Java Support Packs first, followed by the ABAP support packs? We are trying to update our support packs as efficiently as possible, and would like to update our java support packs first, followed by the ABAP stack a few days later.
In regards,
Michael
Hi!
There can probably not be a general answer to that question. There are some functionality where ABAP and JAVA are closely linked and where you'll most likely run into problems if the levels do not match.
Technically there is no problem as applying the SP-Stack for Java and applying SPs for ABAP are independent (technical) tasks, but you will have to VERY carefully check the dependencies and carefully test this in a QA-environment.
If you want my advice: Try to find a 'big shot' solution where you do all in one move.

Jörg

Unable to Deploy Java Support Packs :(
I have an XI System Running on DB2 UDB (NW2004S), and it has ABAP and Java, and the Kernal patch was 83, so I upgraded to 102, and then ABAP Support packs were completed, but when i was trying to Deploy Java Support packs it gave me an error that its unable 2 restart the Cluster in Safe mode, so when i again tried loggin on to JSPM, SDM was stopped, and it asked me to restart and login to JSPM, and im trying to start SDM, and its trying for more than 300 Seconds and erroring out , so I tried launching the Config tool, and its unable 2 connect to DB , and it says Password Expired, how do i go about Fixing this Issue????? But i remember when i was trying to bring up SAP, Schema password SAPSID was expired and application was unable 2 talk to Database, so i reset the password and updated it /sapmnt/SID/exe/global/dscdb6.confg file,Do we have any place where we need to update in JAVA as well.. im not aware of it ..
Regards,
Ershad Ahmed.Hi Ahmed,
yes, usually there is also a Java schema which is different to the ABAP schema. The default name is sap<sid>db (all lower case - but it should not be case sensitive). You may find out the schema when you query for number of tables per schema beginning with sap: SELECT tabschema, count(*) FROM syscat.tables WHERE tabschema LIKE 'SAP%'

What are the key components to be mointored after support pack installation
I m an PI developer ,last Friday Basis installed the service pack 15 in Quality box . They are asking me to mointor the QPI to make sure everything is running fine and let them know so they can install the service pack in Production box.
Apart from normal monitoring of the system ( RWB and SXMB* ), what are the other components i need to monitor.
Can you tell me what to be monitored after Support pack installation.Hi,
1) If CCMS is configured then you can monitor this as well (RZ20)
2) Keep an eye on Queues

RE: Support Pack installation
Hi,
I'm not a BASIS Consultant. But I'm trying to install a Support pack in the BW System.
Here are the steps that I'm following. But there is some issue with the support pack installation. Can anyone guide me where I'm wrong.
Basically I'm trying to install the SP6 for the BW system so that I can install the BPC 7.5 NW SP6 on the BPC side.
1. SAINT
2. Load packages from the FrontEnd
3. Selected the package, open, decompress.
4. the file is extracted to the C:\usr\sap\trans\EPS\in folder.
5. run>cmd>SAPCAR -xvf K-75006INCPMBPC.SAR
6. The file is extracted to the C:\usr\sap\trans\EPS\in folder as CSR0120031469_0050776.PAT
7.Then I click on Installation Package>Load Package>From Application Server
8. This is the message that I'm getting.
Message Text OCS file already exists in inbox. Upload not required.
9. I do not know where I need to correct myself. Is there any guide or can You show me where I should search about the SP6 installation on the BW system.
Thanks,
Siri.Hi Very sorry for the late reply.
We used T-code SPAM for upgrading the SPAM level to 43
We are on BW 7.01 SP5
Now we were able to install the Support Packs.
When I go into the
1.SPAM
2. Imported Suport Packages
3. Display
4. Under CPMBPC
5. It shows SAPK-75008INCPMBPC CPMBPC 750: Support Package 0008
With this I assume that the BPC 7.5 NW System has the Support pack 8.
Then I uninstalled the BPC Server by going into the Add/Remove Programs.
Then I downloaded the BPC 7.5 NW Files BPCSERVER08_0-10009080.EXE and BPCSERVER08P_2-10009080.EXE
I installed them on the server where the BPC is installed.
Everything is fine until now.
But when I'm trying to restore the SAP_IFRS Appset, (BPCNWSKIFRS00_1-20007298.RAR) , these were the steps followed as per the guide.
1. T-code UJBR
2. Select the Appset from the Front end.
3. Named the Appset as SAP_IFRS
4. Selected the 3 checkboxes
(a) Restore Metadata Tables
(b) Restore Master Data
(c) Restore Transaction Data
5. Selected the Record Count to 0
6. Hit F8
7. I got the errors below
8. Not all Info Objects Can be Read.
9. Invalid Attribute name (MBR__SEQ) in Dimension INTERCO
10.Master Data Load for Dimension INTERCO ended with ans error
11. Invalid Attribute Name (MBR__SEQ) in Dimension OWNACCOUNT
12. Master Data Load for Dimension OWNACCOUNT ened with an error.
13. Master Data Load for Dimension RPTCURRENCY ended with an error
All in all out of the 64 tasks 41 failed and 23 were successful.
Can anyone please help me on this. -
ABAP or ABAP+JAVA in Solman Installation?
Hi,
We are going to implement Solution Manager 7 (SR3).
1. I would like to ask whats the best installation variant in installing solution manager? (ABAP or ABAP+ JAVA)
2. What are the additional capabilities of SolMan if we install ABAP+JAVA and not ABAP only?
We are planning on using solution manager for:
- Central Administration
- Change request management
- Root Cause Analysis
- Delivery of SAP support service
Thanks,
RoelDear
Solution Manager has to have ABAP+JAVA stack so your choice is easy.
Solution Manager Java Stack offers additional functionality as well as tools.
For example Solution Manager Diagnostics.

How to restart Java Engine in ABAP+JAVA dual stack installation ?
Dear Experts
if i use stopsap r3 in this dual stack installation - it stops both ABAP & JAVA Web Application Servers.
I want to restart only JAVA Weba pplication server.
How do it ?
Thaks in Advance !
RgdsBut theoritically they are 2 indpeendent installations like
AS ABAP
AS JAVA
..Do you aggree ?? really am not good on basics!!
During the installation also - if select AS ABAP & AS JAVA - it will become dual installation
and it does not show
any dependency while installing that AS JAVA requires AS ABAP.[Installation Component Selection and Dependency Screen shot|http://i303.photobucket.com/albums/nn153/S0002919350/SAP%20Issues/Oracle_Patches.jpg]
Installation Component Selection and Dependency Screen shot
Is it because if AS ABAP is down - AS JAVA UME is 001 client - and Java authentication fails ?
Can we de attatch from ABAP UME for my requirement like - running JAVA WAS alone w/o ABAP.

ABAP+JAVA in Cluster installation
Hello gurus,
I've read all tha SAP HA documents and have noticed that in several cluster installation they split up
the ABAP SCS and JAVA SCS from the CI when installaing a double-stack system (ABAP+JAVA).
As much as I know, the SCS instances doesn't require a lot of memory or cpu, they are not the problem when there is a bottleneck (correct me if I'm worng ...).
So, what is the reason for splitting up the SCS isntances from the cluster group of central instance ?
Please advice,
Dimitry HaritonovHello Dimitry,
Basically the SCS instances determine the CI. Without having running message and enqueue servers, there is not a running NetWeaver cluster at all. So these processes together with the database and the global file system are critical for the cluster and its high availability. These are the so called single points of failures and need to be protected by the failover cluster. For more details refer to sections 2.2.4, 2.3.2 and 4.1 of "SAP WAS in Switchover Environments" technology handbook available at service marketplace.
You are right that SCS processes do not consume a lot of memory and cpu. They do not require a lot of time to start so for performance reasons it makes sense to split them from the ABAP and Java processes, which are much slower. If the SCS instances are installed in a separate cluster group than the whole CI, the switchover process will take less time.
I hope I answered to your question.
Best Regards

WAS SP9 SR1 ABAP+Java Add in installation , j2EE engine is not running
I have completely installed SAP Netweaver SP9 SR1 WAS ABAP+JAVA addin and Installed XI completely. After few days j2EE engine stops running. I have applied the license after requesting from SAP Mareketplace and applied in WAS ABAP using SLICENSE transaction.
Issue faced
1. Tried to connect j2ee engine home page which is showing.
Dispatcher is running but no server connected.
Now I have removed the WAS J2EE installation and removed the client on which WAS j2EE engine installed. After doing this I tested the WAS ABAP which is running fine. Now I am again installing WAS Java addin. Which installed success fully and have seen the j2ee engine server page running. But proceeding further to install JAVA Dialog instance I am facing folloing issues
2. while installation step 8 and 9 as per SAP INSTANCE GUI .
3. And J2EE engine is again stopping.
Can any one help me to install J2ee dialog installation and resolving these issues.
Anand Verma
HCL technologiesHi Anand,
J2EE Engine has a separate licensing mechanism. If the temporary license expires, the server will shut down every 30 minutes. You install a permanent license using Visual Administrator in service "Licensing Adapter".
In any case, a look into the log files of the engine can provide further information. They are found at
.../<SID>/<INSTANCE>/j2ee/cluster/server<n>/log

Java Support Pack Stack - what about additional patches?
Hi Guys,
I have applied Java SP stacks many times before so this is not a technical question as such.
We download the entire SP Stack and apply it via JSPM. But this only updates the system to that stack with patch level 0. For instance, if I apply SP Stack 3, then all the components will have SP3 patch 0. SAP releases bug fixes from time to time in the form of additional patch files like SP3 patch level 1, 2, 3, etc. for individual components but these are obviously not part of the downloaded stack but need to be downloaded separately for each component.
My question is, is it a good strategy to apply the entire stack as downloaded so this makes all the components to patch level 0 in that stack and then also download all of the latest patch files for each component within that SP level and apply all of them in the next run?
So I think this should fix all the bugs that SAP has fixed using these patch files so this would save us a lot of time which usually goes wasted in encountering the bugs, finding solutions and maybe even going to SAP just to find out that the latest patch files are released which already contain these fixes.
So, can someone tell me whether this is a good idea to do it this way? Or is there any downside to this?
Thanks and Regards,
Shitij BaggaHi,
You can apply eaither ways there woun't any problem.
i mean you can apply directly patch with SP leve or apply the SP level with patch 0
When ever if we apply the patch for any SP level, it over write all the file with patch file
Thanks,
Sreeni. -
Hi guys,
I know this answer, but I can't remember it.
Are SPs incremental, or comprehensive? I have to take a GRC product from a lower service pack to the latest, and there are about 4 packs in between. I forgot whether I need to do each one, or just the final one.
Sorry - I should know this. Also, does anyone have a slide deck (from Frank Rambo, perhaps) on 5.2 service packs?
Thanks,
SantoshSantosh,
SP for JAVA: You can go to the latest one (cumulative)
SP for ABAP: You have to install them sequentially (incremental).
Relevant SAP Notes:

SAP Note 1352498 - Support Pack Numbering - GRC Access Control

Support packs for CI + App servers
HI,
I worked mostly with Central Instance / Oracle DB only. I have done upgrade for Kernel / Oracle-Opatches and ABAP/ JAVA support packs. Now I have to implement these in production environment where it has one central instance and 3 app servers. I would lilke to know, what difference it makes, for Kernel upgrade / Oracle Patches / ABAP and Java support packs. What should I take care in terms of stopping ./ starting services
Would appreciate your feedback.,
Thanks,
RajHi Raj,
For Application server what type of scenior you are using.
Did you made share of /usr/sap/ or /sapmnt to you application sever.
if yes, then you have to just upgrade the kernal in CI & not in Apps
If no, then you have to manually upgrade the kernal on CI & apps.
Thanks

Hi,
Our client want to implement latest support packs for GRC 5.3 both ABAP & JAVA, will my ruleset also get upgraded by applying support pack SP10..?
What are changes will happen after implementing JAVA support pack..?
ThanksPlease refer to the "How to apply support packages" guide on BPX:
http://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/display/BPX/Governance%2CRisk%2CandCompliance%28GRC%29How-ToGuides
You rule set will NEVER be automatically upgraded - after all it usually contains LOTS of changes to make it suit your environment!

How to apply java support packages.
hi all,
i applied support packages for 4.7EE but i dont know how to apply java support packages.
can anyone explain about how to apply java support package for netweaver s??
from scratch anyone can explain.
regards
vijayHello Vijay ,
Java Support packs can be installed without using SDM also if you are on NW2004.
Process:
Eg SP18
Download the following DVDs
1. WebAS 6.40 SP18(Part 1/4): SAP Installer
2. WebAS 6.40 SP18(Part 2/4): SAPInst Control File for Oracl
3. WebAS 6.40 SP18(Part 3/4): OS Depend. parts of Java RuntiA
4. WebAS 6.40 SP18(Part 4/4): OS Indep. Parts of Java Runtime
Uncar each of them in the sequence
1,4,3,2
Once u uncr then u will get some more uncarred files
eg D:\sapinst\J2EE-RUNT-CD\SCS\NT\I386\SCS.SAR uncar it into run directory : DIR_CT_RUN ( D:\usr\sap\SRX\SYS\exe\runU)
Note: The value of DIR_CT_RUN can be found In Profile SRX_SCS01_B3BPH1W)
Run SAPINST
Note:Give RFC user as 000 DDIC
Java Support packs can be installed using JSPM if you are on NW2004s
1)Download SP Stack or SP
2)Copy the SCA files to /usr/sap/trans/EPS/in
3)Execute the JSPM go.bat from \sapmnt\SID\DVEBMGSXX\j2ee\JSPM
4) Provide SDM Password
5 ) Select the Traget SP level .
6 ) Deploy.
Also, you can find the current SP Level in http://localhost:5<instance numeber>00 and then system information.
