ABAP Workflow Issue

Hi Workflow Experts,
I have created a custom workflow and i am facing an issue in that. When i go to my inbox(SAP Business Workplace->Inbox->Workflow) to see workflow items, and if double click on any of the workflow items on the right side, they get executed and automatically goto Outbox Folder. But my requirement is , when i double click on the workflow item, a pop-up window should open which should give me a option to "Complete that Workflow Item" explicitily. Can any one guide me to acheive this functionality.
Thanks in advance.

Charitha Kolla

Hi,
In the workflow builder,
select the user-decision for the workitem....
mention the agents name...
under the decision options,
give certain decision texts such as
yes,
no,.... etc... something like this which gives a business meaning to that work item...and also for each decision text write the outcome name for it.
then activate the workflow and execute it.... a workitem will come into the inbox and when you double click on it.... it will show you user interaction....

  • Security considerations wrt the ABAP Workflow implementation

Maybe somebody can comment on this:
I am an SAP auditor and doing SAP audits. Me and my colleagues always struggle with the security risks imposed by WF-BATCH and the related RFC-destination.
The question I am interested in is: Why did SAP go for this construction ? Why does Workflow Management require the WF-BATCH user ?
I do have an assumption here: The user is required as the Workflow Management functionality requires some authorization objects (e.g. S_USER_GRP/02/*) that you wouldn't like to hand out to the users directly. By calling this part of the functionality via the RFC-destination, those authorization objects have to be "handed out" only to WF-BATCH.
Well - nice assumption, but I have no evidence that this was actually the reason. My knowledge of the Workflow Management functionality is limited and the example I mentioned above (S_USER_GRP) is most probably wrong and not complete anyway as it doesn't state a reason why S_USER_GRP would be necessary.
Nevertheless it would be important to understand the in's and out's here a bit better in order to arrive at a better understanding of the risk and to trim WF-BATCH authorizations to the unavoidable.
So if anybody can shed some light on this, please do so ...
BTW: I am also asking because although I can't believe that S_USER_GRP/02/* is necessary, so far I always found it in real-live WF-BATCH users
    Thanks and regards,

    Hi,
"The calling of the object method for the work item ended with a return value for which no handling is modeled in the workflow." in the workflow log
This kind of Error comes due to the following reasons:-
1> There is a problem in the Binding, in which step this Error is Coming. You have Binded the element for which there is no Target Defined. Source is there but no Target is there, so it is unable to catch the data that you want to send through Binding.
2> It also could be because of Binding Mismatch. The Container elements would not be having the same Data Type.
"The workflow runtime system has called an application method in a tRFC or background context. A message was processed in this application method. This causes the execution of the workitem to be cancelled in this context."
This Error can be because of the RFC Settings that are not propoerly configured in SWU3. All the ticks should be green in Colour. Check the same for the Server on which you are trying to trigger the WF.

  • Integration of ABAP workflow with portal

    Hello Experts,
Need urgent help on UWL configuration.
We have integrated our ABAP workflow with portal through UWL.
We have a Ad Hoc link in the ABAP workflow which takes us to some transaction. For some reason we are not able to view that link when we see this workflow through portal.
    1. Is is possible to show any Ad hoc links from ABAP workflow into portals?
    2. If yes, what is the process for the same? We did not get any relevant documents.
    Any inputs/sugessions are most welcome.

  • PO Release strategy Workflow issue

    Hi All Workflow Experts,
I need a help in one of the workflows in our project. The workflow is for PO Release Strategy. The problem is in the Production environment and is as mentioned below:
''Users are complaining of  irrelevant mails with subject "PRD: PO auto release code"  delivered to their lotus notes inbox from SAP workflow.  Mail does not carry any further details like whats the PO number etc. In some cases this mail should not be delivered to the recipients as they have nothing to do with PO release strategy approval process.''
As I am not very old in Workflows I want to know where should I start from? I mean what all are the possible
areas where I should look into? Also this issue cannot be replicated in QA environment? So is there any environment specific thing I should do?
    Please advice.
    Thanks,
    Saket.

    Hi Saket,
Check who are set as the Recipient types of the workflow mail "PRD: PO auto release code". Also check the condition when the mail is getting send. Check at occurance of what event is the mail getting send to the users. Debug the workflow to fidn out these details and check where the issue really is.
Do post your comments if you find any confusion about the same.

  • Purchase order workflow issue

    Hi All,
A PO is created and rejected by a user in user decision step. The workflow will end.If the PO is changed(amount) again, the release strategy is triggered for the same user. But the workflow is not triggering. If the release strategy is for a different user, its triggering the workflow.I have used a fork inside which 1 parallel branch contains a wait for significantly changed event & another branch contains the user decision step,po release step & rejection reason scenario.

We are getting this message from time to time and are unsure how to troubleshoot it.
It seems as though something is changing the document, what is the best way to figure out what?
Approval on DOCUMENT NAME has ended because the item that the task process is running on was changed.

    Hi Daniel,
    1.What message do you get?
    2. Look in the Workflow History list, eg "http://sp2013/Lists/Workflow History". Do you find any errors in there?
    3. Is the user account starting the workflow correctly synchronized in the user profile database?
    4. Is the user account starting the workflow different from the Worflow Manager setup account? (more info at

  • ABAP & Workflow for CRM

    Hello  Buddies,
I have seen so mail threads somewhat near to my doubt but could you please tell me some good link for learning ABAP & Workflow for CRM. Also please advise me, being ABAP-Workflow Consultant which section of CRM is best suitable for me.
Thanks in advance. Your guidance is appreciated.
    Warm Regards,
    N. Singh

    Hi,
ABAP    and Workflow for CRM is nothing different and specific to CRM. They are same and at least all the basic concepts are present. There might be some implementation and conceptual differences but they are more of functionality driven.
You start learning SAP CRM Fucntionality which will help you to understand SAP CRM much better. And then you can have a feel of the CRM feature and where and how it's been used to drive the ABAP and Workflow functionality.
Hope this helps. You can scan the forum for good links and resources.

  • BPM or Abap Workflow

    Hi Experts
I have to implement a Sales Order process for my client.
Overview of the process which needs to be implemented:
A company sells xyz product. So the customer places an offer for abc product at some price. The request goes to the sales department's manager who checks the customer demands and accepts/rejects/edits the request according to some rules like mkt price. If he accepts the offer, it becomes the contract for which sales order is created and invoicing is done.
Company can edit the request, updated the price and sends back to customer. If customer is happy it becomes a contract again for which sales order can be created.
I need to implement the scenario using webdynpro for abap or java.
    My Question:
I have implemented such scenarios using UWL and SAP Abap workflows. I am new to CE 7.3 version and BPM concept.
Experts please guide me which would be the best way to implement such scenario. Should I stick to normal abap workflow method or can I do it through BPM? What would be the challenges if I go by BPM approach.
    Thanks and Regards
    Sonal

    Hi Sonal,
You didn't specify all the systems involved in this process - i.e. is it one central ERP, multiple SAP and non-SAP? The primary use case for SAP NetWeaver BPM is to orchestrate processes across multiples systems, presenting the user with one central location to conduct their work (UWL) and a consistent user intercace (Web Dynpro).
If your process only uses one central ERP system for all backend tasks I would (not knowing more details) probably favor a WDA and business workflow based solution. Going outside of the ERP system to implement it wouldn't gain you very much if anything could make your landscape more complicated and create more work. On the other hand, if multiple backend systems are involved this would probably be a good candidate for a SAP NetWeaver BPM based process. Rough generalities, for sure, but you asked :-).

  • SAP ABAP Workflow / CAF - GP Workflow ?

    Hi All,
Has anyone evaluated SAP ABAP Workflow and CAF GP Workflow?  When would you choose to go the SAP ABAP Workflow?
    Thanks,
    Uma.

    Thanks Pavan.
The thread that you have linked is about GP getting replaced with BPM over a period of time etc. This is really going to take a while and moreover, in case we want take the route of BPM , we need CE 7.1 EHP1 . We see customer cases where they have NW 7.0 and dont want to invest in CE server for now.
In such scenarios where you can build workflow solutions in GP in 7.0 version , in what scenarios ABAP Workflow is to be chosen.
My Question is around - disadvantages and advtages of ABAP workflow.
    Thanks,
    Uma

  • ABAP performance issues and improvements

    Hi All,
Pl. give me the ABAP performance issue and improvement points.
    Regards,
    Hema

Performance tuning for Data Selection Statement
    For all entries
The for all entries creates a where clause, where all the entries in the driver table are combined with OR. If the number of
entries in the driver table is larger than rsdb/max_blocking_factor, several similar SQL statements are executed to limit the
    length of the WHERE clause.
    The plus
    Large amount of data
Mixing processing and reading of data
    Fast internal reprocessing of data
    Fast
    The Minus
    Difficult to program/understand
Memory could be critical (use FREE or PACKAGE size)
Some steps that might make FOR ALL ENTRIES more efficient:
Removing duplicates from the the driver table
    Sorting the driver table
If possible, convert the data in the driver table to ranges so a BETWEEN statement is used instead of and OR statement:
          FOR ALL ENTRIES IN i_tab
            WHERE mykey >= i_tab-low and
                  mykey <= i_tab-high.
    Nested selects
    The plus:
    Small amount of data
Mixing processing and reading of data
Easy to code - and understand
    The minus:
    Large amount of data
    when mixed processing isn’t needed
    Performance killer no. 1
    Select using JOINS
    The plus
    Very large amount of data
Similar to Nested selects - when the accesses are planned by the programmer
    In some cases the fastest
    Not so memory critical
    The minus
    Very difficult to program/understand
Mixing processing and reading of data not possible
    Use the selection criteria

          The performance database
Optimizing the load of the database
    Using table buffering
Using buffered tables improves the performance considerably. Note that in some cases a stament can not be used with a buffered table, so when using these staments the buffer will be bypassed. These staments are:
    Select DISTINCT
ORDER BY / GROUP BY / HAVING clause
Any WHERE clasuse that contains a subquery or IS NULL expression
    JOIN s
    A SELECT... FOR UPDATE
If you wnat to explicitly bypass the bufer, use the BYPASS BUFFER addition to the SELECT clause.
Use the ABAP SORT Clause Instead of ORDER BY
The ORDER BY clause is executed on the database server while the ABAP SORT statement is executed on the application server. The datbase server will usually be the bottleneck, so sometimes it is better to move thje sort from the datsbase server to the application server.
If you are not sorting by the primary key ( E.g. using the ORDER BY PRIMARY key statement) but are sorting by another key, it could be better to use the ABAP SORT stament to sort the data in an internal table. Note however that for very large result sets it might not be a feasible solution and you would want to let the datbase server sort it.
    Avoid ther SELECT DISTINCT Statement
As with the ORDER BY clause it could be better to avoid using SELECT DISTINCT, if some of the fields are not part of an index. Instead use ABAP SORT + DELETE ADJACENT DUPLICATES on an internal table, to delete duplciate rows.

  • Workflow issue with interco transactions & general ledger entries in F-02

    Hello Experts,
We are encountering a workflow issue when we are entering intercompany transactions with general ledger entries in F-02. Our workflow is set up with two release levels and the details are as follows:
Amount below $2500 - single release level
Amount above $2500 - two release levels
The document type that we are using is SU and it is configured with intercompany postings and trading partner enabled in the control data.
After parking a GL document that has interco amount entries below $2500 and general ledger amount entries above $2500 in F-02, the document is supposed to go to the two release levels in the workflow because the total amount is above $2500 (interco amount + general ledger amount > $2500). However, in the workflow, the document went to the single release level instead of the two release levels.
Any idea why the subledger amount takes precedent over the general ledger amounts in determining the workflow release level?
We would appreciate your help in solving this issue.

You cannot change the design of the system.
SAP may consider the change of design if all the users across the industries are reported. If a single user has a special requirement, it cannot be changed.
You need to ask, whether this is a critical requirement for your business. Otherwise, please follow the standard way.

If I then delete 1 or more of these photos and attempt to rename them again(same event title + numerical sequence), the new names do not properly apply the numerical sequence after the filename. Either of the following can happen, and whcih one will happen is not dependednt on what I do.
    1. The files can be renamed, with the first image having a sequence number 1 number higher than the lowest number I typed into the sequence box in the batch rename dialog (if I type a number 1, the sequence starts at 2). There are also random gaps in the sequence numbering scheme. For example, the numbers will count to 15, then skip to 17, then count to 176, then skip to 178. The rest of the files might be renamed correctly, or there might be gaps. The gaps always skip a single number, and most of the time the numbers skipped are odd numbers, though numbers with a 16 are usually skipped (16, 116, 216)
    2. The files can be renamed as mentioned above, but with the addition of a -1 to the end of the sequence (example: filename-200-1 or filename-3-1). The addition of the -1 is also random, though it is more common with lower-numbered files than higher-numbered files.
I have experienced this bug on groups as small as 50 photos or as large as several hundred.  I have tried remaning the files to a completely different text/sequence combination and then back to the one I want, and it does not help the issue. The sequence numbering is more likely to have more gaps the more virtual copies are present in the series of photos being renamed.
This is a major workflow issue for me because the files I deliver have to be named sequentially, without gaps, following a specific text/numer naming convention. The bug is currently adding many extra hours to my post-production time. Any assitance would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you

Thanks for the detailed description.  I was able to repro this with your steps and have logged a bug for futher investigation.
