About connection

hi all,
I heard that Connection object is singleton.. But then a connection pool is a group of Connection objects used in the application and is used by one or more incoming requests . How is it possible?
thanx

But it says that the Connection must be made
Singleton if we want to reduce the overhead of
creating and initializing the Connection obj....why?No. It's suggesting that you use a singleton to access the connection to reduce the overhead. That's quite different.
Do you use a car, or are you a car?
can u tell me the examples of the obj to b made
Singleton pls..It's bad advice anyway. Using a singleton virtually guarantees horrible problems if your app is multi-threaded.
Use a connection pool. And learn what a resource leak is.

2--connction trough remote desktop to VM is only purposed from ouside or you can use it  to connect to VM internally too? very short answers wil be enough.

  • Where Can I Learn About Connecting an External Drive to My Airport Extreme?

I'm having trouble find information on this. I want to know the pros and cons of connecting my LaCie drive to the FireWire port of my base station so that different computers in the house have direct access to it. I'd like to know whether there will be a big change in the data transfer rate, any security issues, and whether permissions will be assigned automatically by the computer creating new folders on the drive. Also, I'd like to know whether Time Machine works well this way.
Any thoughts would be most appreciated.

You're right about the USB. Must have been imagining things. Darn those meds. Thanks for the speed comparison too; I think I'll experiment a bit. Shame about Time Machine though. I thought I had read a post elsewhere on the discussion board saying that Time Machine recognized an external drive connected to a router. It may not have been an AEBS, and perhaps recognizing it doesn't mean Time Machine will back up to it.
    Thanks again for your reply.

  • I am moving into a hotel apartment that has wifi...what about connecting my TC?

the wifi in the hotel apartment is secured with an ID and password for connecting. Will I be able to connect my TC to such network wirelessly, and then still have my devices connect to my TC and share the internet? (and the printer connected on my TC) ?
    Thanks for any support!

    That is already comforting.
I am puzzled about the logon procedure of the hotel wifi though... I tried it out on my iphone and the wifi connection opens up some kind of web page where I have to fill in an ID and a password...
Can you guide me step by step how to do this when I would connect my TC to it?
Currently my TC is connected with an ethernet cable to my D-link DIR655, which is ethernet connnected to my current hotel room. This way the D-link keeps my login and I can share the internet over TC to all my devices....
Would the TC, when connected directly to the hotel wifi, also keep my login and would I still be able to share the internet to all my devices this way?

  • About connecting an ipod to home audio system+scratches

i have sony CMT-HPZ9 micro system at home and trying to connect the ipod to it, and it says that i need a 2.5mm jack. What kind of cable do i need to connect them...?
and also, there were some scratches on the back of the ipod when i bought it 2 days ago and was wondering if scratches are common on ipods. If it is not common i was thinking about exchanging it for a new one;;.
    well
    thanks

    1) Go to your local electronics store 1 that sell ipods like best buy. Ask for a easy solution to conect your ipod to your home stereo. THat will mostl likely give you the needed cables you need i know that griffin technology sell 1.
    http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/ipodcablekit/index.php
2)Scratches occur on the ipod adn on any ipod for that fact. retuening the ipod just because of scratches is foolish. Scratches is not covered under the warranty of the ipod because it is not cause from faulty equipment. The best solution is to try and use a solutuion like brasso or ice kremem to remove the scratches.Brasso is probably the bst for the back of the ipod. SEARCH online before trying this on how to remove thre scratches!
Then get a good case for the ipod because of the tendency to scratch like this case.

and it would ehlp to have a clear film to protect the front of the ipod too ASAP.

  • Question about CONNECT BY PRIOR

    Hi,
I have a table (genealogy table.). I have child id, father id and mother id. I'm trying to built a request to be able to see the family tree : mother, father, grandfather, grandmother, etc.
I need some help about how to retrieve it with the CONNECT BY...
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi,
    Gaétan Francoeur wrote:
I would like to retrieve : LILI, her parents and grandparents, and so on...
I put the names, but in real life it would be into another lookup table.
    ID          NAME     FATHER_ID          FATHER_NAME          MOTHER_ID          MOTHER_NAME
    05          LILI     20                    PAWZ               30                    RHIANNON
    15          MAX          20                    PAWZ               40                    BEAUTY
    20          PAWZ     50                    DEXTER               60                    FAY
60          FAY          NULL               NULL               NULL               NULLOne more time: post CREATE TABLE and INSERT statements for the data in your table (or tables), and post the results you want from that data (formatted, between \ tags).
Did you try what I posted in my first message?SELECT     *
    FROM     genealogy
    START WITH     name     = 'LILI'
CONNECT BY     id     IN ( PRIOR father_id
                   , PRIOR mother_id
I can't try it; I don't have a copy of the genealogy table yet.
This sounds like an interesting project, but I can't help you without a version of your table, even if it's very small, and I need to know exactly what you want to produce from that table.

  • Basic questions about connection sharing and radio mode

I just got TC and have a couple of basic questions.
At home I have a D-Link ADSL modem/router (no wifi) plugged into the wall, and would like TC to provide wifi. I've connected the WAN port to some LAN port of the router and everything works fine. The intented usage of the setup is wifi-only. Would you recommend TC to do DHCP/NAT? Or is Bridge mode better? In the latter case I don't fully understand who's routing the wifi network (though it actually works).
Second question is about radio mode. My wife has an iBook G4 that is not capable of talking 801.11n, so I selected the n mode compatible with b/g. In that mode my black MacBook will still be able to talk 801.11n with TC? The iBook has very low usage, it is fine that computer uses 801.11g for TC, but I'd like the MacBook to go full-speed. (If that's not possible I'd ponder purchasing an 801.11n adaptor of some sort for the iBook.)

Would you recommend TC to do DHCP/NAT? Or is Bridge mode better?
    It doesn't matter.
In the latter case I don't fully understand who's routing the wifi network (though it actually works).
    The D-Link modem/router.
In that mode my black MacBook will still be able to talk 801.11n with TC?
Yes. It will only suffer lower bandwidth if the iBook G4 is actively connected.

  • I'm new and confused about "connection" things

I'm new to BlackBerry--I have an 8320 Curve, I'm a small business owner and I'm not connected to a BES. I use the BB Desktop Manager to synchronize with Outlook and to back up my BB and I've done pretty well on most things, but I still have a few things I'm confused about. In this forum, I'll ask my "confusion questions" concerning data options.
I have a "pay as you go" data plan with AT&T, my provider, because there is virtually no cell reception at my home where I also work. (I'm not using my BB for email since I'm in front of my computer most of the time). I have a home network set up and I've incorporated a router that supports wireless. I've connected a netbook to the wireless network and used it to surf the Internet, so, I know my wireless connection works. I've also managed to create a wireless connection on my BB to this network and on the Home screen, it will display my wireless network's name when I'm here at home, so, I know the device is connected to my network.
BUT, I don't think I'm actually using my home wireless network...I tried the other day by browsing the Internet and then AT&T told me I incurred data charges--which I thought I shouldn't have if I wasn't using their network. Either I'm wrong about assuming they won't charge me if I use my network or I have something set up incorrectly on my BB...can anyone provide some guidance?
Next, I don't truly understand what BIS is...I searched through the KB and couldn't find anything that actually defines BIS...could somebody please explain what BIS is?
Finally, can somebody please explain the difference between "mobile network" and "wi-fi"? It seems, if I turn off "mobile network" I have no connection at all, including wi-fi. Is that the way things should be? But, I can turn off wi-fi and still get a connection (if I go outside as far from my house as possible and face south <g>).
Thanks...and now I'm off to the BB Desktop Manager forum to ask a few questions there!
    Solved!

Hi and Welcome to the forums!
I can help you with one or two of your questions:
    ejm1 wrote:

BIS is Blackberry Internet Service...a service, hosted by your carrier, that provides a conduit between internet facing email systems (e.g., Yahoo, GMail, etc.) and your BB. Inside of BIS, you create conduits for each of your email providers that you desire to receive OTA email for on your BB. BIS will check your provider on a periodic basis (documented to be every 15 minutes) and only when there is something that needs to come to your BB does it generate any traffic over the carrier network with your BB. BIS is an add-service, only available to those who, from their carrier, contract for The Blackberry Data Plan (as it is usually called) -- a generic data plan is not usually adequate to have access to BIS.

Mobile Network is your carriers network...data and/or voice services provided OTA for your BB. WiFi is wireless networking (802.11a/b/g/n) through your home WAP, hotspots, etc. I don't know if turning off Mobile Networ should or should not affect your ability to continue to use WiFi...I would think they are separate, but I don't have a BB model with WiFi.
I know nothing about the pay-as-you-go programs, but from all you describe, it seems that you may well be using your carrier network at times. You will need to find out (and there are others here who know) how to shut off your carrier network yet leave WiFi running so that you don't incurr the costs of surfing via the carrier network.
    Hope that helps a little!

  • Question to WOZI - about connection from Dev.2.1 to PO8

After reading the discussion about all kind of installation I could install d2k release 2.1 and PO8.0 into same oracle_home.
    Other combinations didn't sucseed.
Both workin independently, but i can't
    connect them.
I did exectly like you told but it not working.
I even can't do the database alias using
    tcp/ip - only Bequeath(Local Database).
    Help me please!!!!!!!!!

This definitely occurs in 1.5.5 - in my particular case, and this is really strange, if one uses Task Manager to shut down SQLDeveloper because it is just taking forever to get a Data view (via the + expand sign on the side of a given admittedly big table, then clicking on the Data tab), SQLDeveloper freezes. Even if I start a new instance of SQLDeveloper, and ask for a Data view again, it freezes - I've waited as much as 1/2 hour, where as in prior days I'd get a response within say 1 min.
I've even uninstalled and re-installed. Same deal. This is what's the strangest by far. How can it be that SQLDeveloper remembers that a long running query was once canceled even after an uninstall / reinstall ? I could not find anything remotely related to this in the Registry after the uninstall either.
[By the way, if on the other hand, I say SELECT * FROM {table_name}, I get an instant response !]
