About Forms Service of the Oracle 9i DS

I am a new user of Oracle 9i DS Forms.
I found that every time I open a browser and run a applet form, there is a new process named "ifweb90.exe" created and a new port on my forms service server opened for it.
I am wondering why not use native thread, native process is just too heavy, for example every "ifweb90.exe" process cost me about 11Mb memory. What's more, the more clients, the more server ports will be opened, that is just terrible.
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks Frank!
I got it. But I am still confused on the server port opened by the Forms process.
I think the client side Applets communicate with listener servlet through port 8888. why do we need that port?
Will the applet talk to that port directly after the listener servlet initialize the form process? because I monitor that port and I found that there is something talk to it with HTTP Post method.

  • Forms Services for the public?

    Has anyone seen or heard of a successful project using Forms Services for the public? Any links, white papers, etc... would be appreciated. My searches mostly turn up install and bug information.

    Chris,
    if you look at the otn.oracle.com/products/forms you find reference customers and their stories. There are not so many customers running Forms on the Internet but many running it via dial ups and even more using Forms Services in the Internet.

  • Questions about forms users once the form is completed

    I am on a Macintosh platform, OX 10.5 (Leopard), using Adobe Acrobat Professional that came with CS3 (version 8 I believe - I am not in front of that computer at the moment). I have creted a few forms in LifeCycle, but now my boss wants this to be completely Mac so Monday I need to start creating them in a Mac. I know the basics of how to create a form from a pdf file.
    Here are my questions:
    1 - Acrobat 8 is so old I can't find any help information in the Adobe help section. Everything that says version 8 takes me to X or XI when I click on the link. Does anyone know where I might find some help with this version?
    2 - How do I create a form that the person using can save with the data, the completed fields, so they can open it again and look at what they filled in?
    3 - As a corrollary to number 2, how can we also get the data?
    4 - We want to take a booklet that has been paper up to now, create a pdf, and then number them to sell for one use only.  Is there any way to make a form one-time-use only, so it can't be passed on to someone else to also complete?
    I appreciate any help I can get. Thank you.

    2. You need to apply the Extended Reader Rights. In version 8 I believe it was under the Advanced menu.
    3. The users can submit the file back to you in various formats, such as PDF (the entire file), FDF, XML, etc.
    You can add a submit button to the file that will help them do that, or they can just do it themselves.
    4. Impossible, unless you use some kind of DRM technology, but those are extremely expensive.

  • 3GB for 9i AS + forms services over the top!!??

    Hi
    I expected when installing 9iAS I would be able to simply plug in forms server.
    I have found you have to install full 9iAS enterprise edition will loads of stuff not applicable to my forms release. This is infact a 3GB install!!
    It seems you don't get all the .jar files you need to complete a servlet installation using jinitiator. There is a workaround using
    the native ie 5.0 jvm.
    Does anyone know any plans for a slimmed down release without all the other stuff?

    Oliver,
    Forms server is part of the 9i Enterprise install, but you don't have to install everything. Just clear the other components and install the forms server.

  • How do I complain about rude service over the online chat?

    While using the online chat feature one of the advisors was very rude to me and did nothelp solve the problem.

    This morning, I called 1800-80-3638, apple store support. This gal answered and I told her I need to send my iPhone 5s back to apple for reset. She asked me to tell her why... I explained and then she said she don understand my problem... Then I said that's why I call apple support... Guess what she replied "You do not know how to use smart phone so that's you own bloody problem"
    I was so shocked that such a prestigious company support team could have such a reply to customers!!!! I asked for her name and she refused to answer and said I want to speak to her supervisor.
    So, I called the toll-free number again. Again, its her!!!!
    So, I called the toll-free number the third time, before I can anything, she said "You can not find my supervisor!!!"
    Then I went to apple website, there is no customer complain tab.... No place to complain except the feedback site... What a big worldwide company but there is no place to handle complains!!!! Shame on you,

    but i still have one issue.The issue is
    I am unable to have 2 icons path (for the 2 applications)the icons path is taking from the dafault path of /forms/icons(in forms.conf file) for both the application even though i make entry for second application as /formstest/icons in forms.conf file(formstest is my new forms server for second application).

  • Oracle Fusion Middleware Forms Services title need to be change in JRE

    Hi,
    When i run the form in the Runtime(JRE) . I ran the form in separateFrame=true and it is working fine ,but it show "Oracle Fusion Middleware Forms Services" in the
    title of the JRE .. I need to change the title and ICON of the JRE.
    Where do i need to change .. please help.
    Regards
    Mani

    but if you put separateFrame=True .. and that pagetitle is working when separateFrame=False .... >
    This setting changes the default title of the Browser window that your Forms Application runs in. If you want to change the title of the Forms Applet window you would need to set the title through code in your Form using the Set_Window_Property() built-in. For example:
    /* This sets the title of the Window named "WINDOW1" */
    Set_Window_Property('WINDOW1',TITLE,'This is my Window title.');
    /* This set the title of the Applet Window */
    SET_WINDOW_PROPERTY(FORMS_MDI_WINDOW,TITLE,'This is my Application Title');Just set the title in the first form displayed by your application. There is no need to set it in each form, unless of course you want to change the title as you navigate through your application. : - )
    Hope this helps,
    Craig B-)

  • How to call a Oracle Form from within the APEX

    Hi,
    I have a requirment where need to call a oracle form from within the Oracle APEX application?
    I will appriciate if can someone help me out.
    Thanks

    Hi,
    are you working with Forms 6i or 10g?
    If you want to call a forms 10g page. Just use a button with javascript:
    - Target type: URL
    - URL Target: javascript:window.open ('http://<server>:<port>/forms/frmservlet?config=<conf>','Forms window');
    With Forms 6i you can open the directory where your forms file is inside (works just with IE):
    <script type="text/javascript">
    function fnc_window()  {w = open('C:\\FormsFiles', "winLov","scrollbars=yes,resizable=no,width=600,height=400");
    if (w.opener == null)
    w.opener = self;
    </script>Or execute the forms file with vbscript (IE only):
    <script language = "vbscript">
    sub fnc_forms()
    dim progName
    progName = "c:\FormsFiles\myForm.exe"
    set oShell = createobject("wscript.shell") 'create a shell
    '***use the line below to call your app, defined above with the "progName" variable:
    oShell.run(progName)
    end sub
    </script>

  • Browser closes on invoking the Forms Services 10g.

    Hi All ,
    When I invoke the forms services using the following url in the browser , the browser window closes :-
    http://<IP-address>/forms/frmservlet
    Could anyone let me know what could be the reason for this and how to resolve it.
    Thanks,

    Apologies if I'm stating the obvious, but it couldn't be something as simple as
    http://<IP-address>/forms/frmservlet, where i don't see port's number?
    That is:
    http://<IP-address>: <port_number>/forms/frmservlet

  • Forms Service verification program problem

    I have a java verification program that is run from a HPUX server cron job to check
    the status of my 9.0.2.12.2 Oracle 9iAS Forms Services running on a
    Windows 2000 server. The program determines if the Forms Services
    restarted after a cold, off-hours backup by retrieving and reading
    base.htm.
    I have 3 windows servers with "identical" configurations of 9iAS Forms
    Services. The java verification program works when running against the dev and
    test Forms servers but not against the production Forms server. It
    did work against the production Forms server until I upgraded to
    9.0.2.12.2 a few months ago. The only way to reproduce the problem
    against the test Forms server is to rename base.htm so the program
    can't find it. default.env,forms90.conf,formsweb.cfg all appear to be
    identical. Paths and other environmental variables are identical on
    the windows Forms servers. The java program fails or succeeds
    consistently on 3 different HPUX servers both in cron and from the
    command line.
    The error message is: java.io.IOException: Server returned HTTP
    response code: 500 for URL:
    http://productionserver:7778/forms90/f90servlet
    Java is 1.3.1 on all environments.

    URLConnection uc = url.openConnection ();
    System.out.println("Connecting to URL");
    uc.connect();
    System.out.println("Opening input stream.");
    BufferedReader in = new BufferedReader(
    new InputStreamReader( uc.getInputStream() ) );
    System.out.println("Reading file...");
    System.out.println("==========================================================================");
    String inputLine = in.readLine();
    while (inputLine != null)
    System.out.println(inputLine);
    inputLine = in.readLine();
    System.out.println("==========================================================================");
    System.out.println("Closing file.");
    in.close();
    System.out.println("Production Form Server is UP");
    catch( java.net.ConnectException connectException ) {
    System.out.println("***PRODUCTION FORM SERVER IS DOWN***.");
    catch( Exception exception ) {
    System.out.println(exception);
    public static void main(String[] args)
    auRLTest uRLTest = new auRLTest();
    Accessing "http://productionserver:7778/forms90/f90servlet" from IE works fine.
    Any clues or ideas are appreciated.
    Thanks

    I went through the same thing. Look at Appendix II "Case Study" at http://rootshell.be/~yong321/freeware/ckweb.html. Basically, the forms servlet needs some more HTTP headers you didn't pass.

  • Diff in IAS 9i Form Service Version  and Developer 6i Rel 2. Version

    Dear all,
    I have noticed that Form Server version which comes with the Oracle 9i Application Server (Forms Service Module) is higher than then Oracle Developer 6i Tool Rel. 2 Form Complier version.
    It Creates a problem, Form which is complied in Developer 6i Rel 2. gives blazzing result when it deployed it on Oracle 9i Form Server because of the version diff.
    Oracle 9i Form Server Version is always higher than Forms Compiler comes with the latest Developer 6i Rel. 2.
    Because of this reason we cannot install Developer 6i Rel. 2 and
    Oracle 9i Application Server with Form Service on the same machine.
    How to solve this.
    Best Regards,
    Darshan Desai

    If you look in metalink, you can get patches for Forms 6i to patch it up to higher levels than rel 2. Any patch from 4 through to 9 will be newer. Choose which patch you want to bring yourself in line with 9iAS. The patch documentation tells you what version it will bring the forms up to.
    Each patch superceeds the last so just pick one and apply it.
