About Report Writer

Hello Everyone!!
We are a Forté development team in Peru, and we were develop an
application that can build a Report dynamicaly.
In this application you can select the tables, fields, especify the
query condition, (build the select statement by Drag and Drop) of any
Database in the current environment. Also you can especify if you want
send the report to the printer, screen of text file. You can especify
too the Report Header and a preview.

Here are some salient features:
1) Report Painter has 90% of the functionality that Report Writer has and is easier to develop.
2) The last time I did anything on it, from the SAP main menu, choose Information systems->Ad hoc reports->Report painter.
3) Report Writer functions can be accessed from within the Report Painter.
4) Report Painter/Report Writer has four main components: Sets, Libraries, Reports, Report Groups
5) The main difference between the two RW and RP is the graphical user interface of the Report Painter.
6) It is generally used in FI-SL reporting.

Error generating report in Report writer (GR214, short dump)

Hello
We are making a report in GGR2. When generating the report group, we have dump with error:
Short text of error message:
Internal error.: SAPMGRW2, Include: MGRW2F20, FORM: GEN_DATAFI
ELD.
Long text of error message:
Technical information about the message:
Message class....... "GR"
Number.............. 214
Variable 1.......... "SAPMGRW2"
Variable 2.......... "MGRW2F20"
Variable 3.......... "GEN_DATAFIELD"
Variable 4.......... " "
I have generated as well via GR52 with the same result.
The report i try to generate has about 500 lines, uses a number of existing sets and has simple formulas in it. When i restrict the number of rows to say 400 I donu2019t have the issue. Is there a restriction to rows in report writer?

Hi,
The error you are receiving could be caused by a large number of row blocks in your report definition, (you can check the report definition with report RGRRDC00). A report should not contain too many row and column blocks. It is not possible to give an upper bound for the number of row blocks (since the length of the coding depends on other parts of the report as well). However, even a complicated Report Writer or Report Painter report should not contain more than 50 row blocks, and reports with more than 100 row blocks should not be defined.
In this case the report(s) have to be redefined. Please also refer to the note 387916 for further information regarding this issue.
When there are more than 30 variables in a report, please have a look at the note 332091.
Please reduce the number of row blocks in the report by using the function 'Edit' -> 'Rows' -> 'Explode' in the Report Painter
definition. This function enables several rows to be created for one row block (in the Report Painter definition one row block is just one row). Report Painter (and Report Writer) are designed to display hierarchical reports where the rows in the few row blocks are built up using the 'Explode' function.

Profit center security for Report Writer reports

We need to limit users access to profit center report writer reports. We attempted to add values to security object K_PCA but this did not work. I have heard there is a way to turn on objects for report writer checks but so far have been unable to figure out how this is done.

Which release are you on and how have you defined the authorizations?
If the st01 trace always returns 0 then chech the "reason code" (this is available since about 6 months).
Manually you can check it in tcode auth_switch_objects if globally disabled for the client.
Conversions to the new concept sometimes did this when they didn't want to use it.
Retro-fitting is difficult because your hierarchies might be maintained in PROD but your roles in DEV.
Tough call...

Report Writer Issue - Revenue Cost Element - After Upgrade.

Hello ,
   After upgrade some of the report writers are not pulling up all the plan data.
   I found out that the revenue cost elements (cost element category - 11) are not being pulled by
   report writer in ECC 6.00, where it used to pull them in 4.6C. These postings were done to
   our budget version using KP06.
   These revenue cost elements postings are not stored in COSP. I dont have any idea in which tables
   they are stored.
   Does anyone have any clue about this.

Its a report writer report developed here..(not standard one)
The cost center is a revenue cost center. So when we post our revenues we post it to this revenue cost center.
The issue is in 4.6C env it used to pull this data, but in 6.00 it is not pulling.....

Hi,
Report Writer enables you to report on data from multiple applications. Using functions such as sets, variables, formulas, cells and key figures, you can create complex reports that meet specific reporting requirements.
The Report Painter is similar to the Report Writer, but is simpler to use.The main components of report painter are characterestics and basic key figure.
The majority of reports end users use in the R/3 System is Report Painter reports. Most of these reports (@ 80+ %) began as Report Writer reports.
The major difference is Report Painter uses a graphical interface (analogous to Notepad and MS Word).
Very few R/3 users employ Report Writer however, many still use, modify and develop reports using Report Painter. Report Painter permits complex groupings and drill-down reporting very useful for such applications as FI-CO and SD. It can also be used interactively allowing users to enter variables for specific steps; thereby permitting drill-across' functionality.
However, Report Painter does have its limitations; it can display only numeric data (excluding column headers) therefore, short text, etc. is not available. It is much easier (quicker) to modify than ABAP and requires no ABAP expertise however, many combine Report Painter with ABAP reports to fill-in many of the missing pieces. Layout design is archaic and rudimentary ~ therefore; many use Report Painter to retrieve and massage the data' and eventually export it into Excel for end use.

Standard report S_ALR_87013611 ( Report writer) Modification

Hi ,
My requirement is to modify the standard report S_ALR_87013611 which developed on Report writer. It is drildown report writer report. It is calling the KSB1 transaction with user interaction. I want to modify the report by replacing the custom transaction at the place of KSB1 Transaction.
Please guide me the steps .

Hi,
Reports are not saved on a server/disk, but within the system itself. You can export them, indeed, to the local disk just in order to re-import in some other system.

Thanks for the docs, that is with me. Is it possible to give me step by step guide to create a report writer.
I have an issue where in 1 row , data is not populating for few fields but the data is available in other fields in same row.
Say for example,
A row is of Standard metal cost, it has 7 profit centres in different columns, output is available for 5 but not for 2.
Have you faced any kind of issue like this, please let me know.

Hi,
you can get this done in 2 ways:
1 - Change the query to add another column and the re-generate the report
2 - If changing query is not possible, you can change the report it self for adding extra field. If you look at the code, it will be more like normal ABAP code. you can easily modify it (If you are ABAPer) for your additional requirements.

Convert SQL*Report Writer V1 to Reports V6

Is there an Oracle utility to convert the old SQL*Report Writer REPs to Reports V6 RDFs? Also, will Reports V6 for Unix be able to use our REPs from SQL*Report Writer V1?
We are moving to a new server and updating our Oracle software. As a test, we are attempting to rewrite / convert some of our reports from our Unix platform to a test NT server. Once we get to the new Unix server and Oracle, we will have to convert the old REPs to the new Reports for Unix.

You can convert SQL*ReportWriter v1.1 reports to Oracle Reports 2.5/3.0 and then to Oracle Reports 6.0. I know there is a migration tool that comes with 2.5, though I'm not sure about 3.0.

EC-CS report writer report: what sets to use in general data select/cols?

I am about to write Report Writer reports using table FIMC. In the rows I will use a set that includes the whole balance sheet structure. What do I put in general data selection or columns? I need to know the ids of the (standard?) sets...

1. Controlling Area or Company Code
2. Fiscal Year.
3. From and To Period.
4. Dr. /Cr Indicators.

COUNTING RECORDS AND DETERMINING AVERAGES IN REPORT WRITER

I HAVE 10 GROUPS. I WANT TO BE ABLE TO COUNT RECORDS AND DETERMINE THE AVERAGE DAYS FOR EACH GROUP. I GET DAYS BY SUBTRACTING THE RECEIVED DATE FROM THE RESULT DATE. I WANT TO DETERMINE THE AVERAGE DAYS AND THE NUMBER OF RECORDS IN THE TOP 10%, THE TOP 20%, THE TOP 30%, THE TOP 40%, THE TOP 50%, THE TOP 60%, THE TOP 70%, THE TOP 80%, THE TOP 90%, AND THE TOP 100%. HOW DO I CODE MY LOOP IN PLSQL TO DO THIS? CAN I DO THIS IN REPORT WRITER?

I am not sure about the exact thing that you are requiring. but you can get the top 100 and top 20 or top 300 etc. by using the ROWNUM function in sql statement.
