About upgrade to windows 8????

if i upgrade to windows 8, can i back to windows 7 when i want????

Installing Windows 8 will render the Recovery Partition useless. If you want to go back to Windows 7, you'll have to either make your own set of recovery disks BEFORE the upgrade or purchase a set from the hp website.

  • Hi, I am running CC in 32 bits and planning to upgrade to Windows 8.1. Will I be able to upgrade CC to 64bit within my current membership ?

    Dear all
    I read that LR 6 will not work on my current Windows 7 32 bits installation. So I am thinking about upgrading to Windows 8.1 (64 bits). I guess it will also be very beneficial for PS.
    My question is: am I entitled to upgrade my CC to 64 bits with my current membership ?
    Thank you very much
    Michel

    CC doesn't care for "bit-ness" as a licensing criteria. Users who already run 64 bit systems have access to all versions, including native 64bit as well as 32bit. thus you will simply install the programs just like on your current system with no extra hocuspocus and they will default to the 64bit versions where available. That being so, the bigger concern should be to have compatible versions of your plug-ins or any device drivers e.g. for printers.

  • Upgrading to Windows 10 from Windows 8.1 on the Yoga 3 Pro

    Just what was it like for forum guru XBrav to carry out the upgrade of Windows on his Yoga 3 Pro from Windows 8 to Windows 10? Read on to find out how he found the experience.

    I upgraded to Windows 10. I am concerned that the it downloaded poorly, as the opening article in this page suggests. I had real problems: my screen did not tilt correctly as I went from tablet to tent to the keyboard configuration. I lost all touchscreen operations, I had no touch screen at all. Cortana did not work even though she did configure my microphone. Some apps worked poorly; my backgammon game became much smaller on the screen. MSWord did not work at all. It did not go into screen mode when closed, it hibernated and then sometimes did not turn on correctly at all. I reverted back to Windows 8.1 and all is good again. Does anyone have any ideas about upgrading to Windows 10, which I still would like to do? Should I remove the files from C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download and then go to Command prompt and enter wuauclt.exe /updatenow? Thanx, Queneau

  • Dualbooting/Upgrading to Windows 8 - Will it Change My Bootloader?

    Hey all,
    I'm currently dualbooting Arch along with Windows 7 on my laptop and I'm booting through grub right now which was installed with my arch installation. That being said, I'm currently thinking about upgrading my windows 7 system to windows 8 without a reinstall but rather through the regular upgrade process. I was just wondering if anyone had an idea of whether this would mess with my bootloader and overwrite it and if so whether I could just use the windows 8 bootloader to boot into arch or if I would have to reinstall grub and if so what the best way to do that would be. Thanks in advance!

    Don't be - save your braincells for stuff that matters.
    drcouzelis wrote:My coworker was trying to convince me that Windows 8 won't automatically overwrite my bootloader, but I didn't wan't to take any chances. Even if it does, I suppose it's just a quick boot into an Arch Linux live CD, use arch-chroot, and reinstall GRUB2 to fix it.
    If your bootloader is in MBR it will be mashed by W8 (from experience - no hearsay involved) ... MS are unlikely to ever relinquish any control over what happens there Chroot is king!

  • Upgraded to Windows 10: Wifi Stops Working after about 20 minutes operation

    Upgraded to windows 10. Everything was working fine. Then WIFI stops working. I reboot and again, things are fine then as the computer goes to sleep, WiFi stops working and won't reconnect unless I reboot. All other computers in the house using either Windows 7 or 8.1 are connecting just fine. Need some help or I'll roll back to 8.1. This is frustrating to say the least.

    I have a HP pavilion X2 (10-j000na) which I have upgraded to Windows 10 and I have the same issue. Every so often the wifi signal is lost. When I go to the device manager it says there is an error with the driver for the Broadcom 802.11 abgn Wireless SDIO adapter. The only way to resolve this issue at the moment is to uninstall the driver and then re-installing it using the latest Windows 8 driver (sp68594.exe) in compatability mode for Windows 8.
    But even then it is only a matter of time before the driver corrupts again and needs re-installing. We need an updated driver for Windows 10 and fast!

  • My iPhone 4 will no longer back up in iTunes after my upgrade to Windows 7 64bit.

    I used to have Windows XP 32bit and everything worked fine.
    I upgraded to Windows 7 64bit and installed iTunes 64bit (I've also tried running the installer as administrator [in the compatibility properties]).
    iTunes will recognise it with no problems and I can drag and drop anything I want to the iPhone, but I can't back up.
    Software versions: iTunes v10.4.0.80, iPhone 4.3.5.
    When I try to back up, the loading bar with either:
    Have a loading bar with diagonal lines forever or,
    it will start moving and freeze.
    I've tried leaving the process for hours, but to no avail.
    While the back up is being attempted, iTunes still retains full functionality.
    I would exit by sliding the bar on my iPhone (iTunes will retain the loading bars as if frozen) and then unplug it. At this point iTunes takes a few seconds to drop the loading bar altogether, and the little screen will reset to normal functionality.
    I believe this may be a iTunes-Windows thing as I did the following with my old laptop (Windows XP 32bit):
    Installed iTunes for the first time.
    Went into preferences and disabled the automatic backup option.
    Plugged in the iPhone, right-click "back up".
    The back up took less than 5 minutes.
    I don't understand why my main PC can't back up my iPhone.
    Can anyone help please?
    I've tried researching the same problems and I've ended up doing the following:
    Reinstalling iTunes,
    Tried changing the iTunes installation folder to "Program Files" instead of "Program Files (x86)",
    Deleting all contents from: "C:\Users\[Username]\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup",
    Deleting the apps from my phone in case there are corrupt apps (doesn't make sense though as it backed up fine on my old laptop).
    I would appreciate any suggestions!
    Kind regards,
    Will

    Hi there,
    I have the same issue. Usually hangs after 10K od sometimes after 18MB of backup file.
    Config: iTunes 10.4., Win 7 64bit, iPhone 4 with iOS 4.3.3
    I tried all of these without success:
    - deleted backups via iTunes / Preferences
    - deleted backups from sync folder
    - created a new admin user and tried to sync
    - reinstalled iTunes
    - ran all Windows updates, restarted, reinstalled iTunes
    - ran iTunes / Diagnostics (says everything okay, only info which is strange: diag says I am not a admin user, which is not correct)
    Nothing helped. Who can help. I hope someone from Apple can take care, as I seem not to be the only one. Actually iTunes is the worst part about iPhone. Hope with iOS 5 and Cloud sync to get rid of iTunes.
    Any hints welcome,
    Cheers,

  • Huge ntuser.dat.LOG1 since upgrade to Windows 8.1 prohibits roaming of user profile

    Hello,
    a few days ago my PC (part of our domain) first started to have problems with my user profile. Our domain uses roaming profiles with a size limit of 30MB. My user.dat has a size of 12.5MB. Up to now this did not cause any problems (and does not cause any for
    most users of our domain having a user.dat of similar size). However, after upgrading to Windows 8.1 I repeadly have problems with my profile exceeding its maximum size. After checking my profile, I found a ntuser.dat.LOG1 with 12,5MB in size and a ntuser.dat.LOG2
    of 2MB. As far as I know these files are used to store temporary transactions for the user.dat. But why are they this large? Together they almost completely fill the profile. As an interesting side node the last modification of ntuser.dat.LOG1 dates back more
    then seven days.
    What is further puzzling me: ntuser.dat.LOG1 and ntuser.dat.LOG2 are not synchronized with the roaming profile on the server. At least they are not on the server. However there used to be much smaller versions of these files which could have been transfered
    before the profile size exceeded its limit. Since these file seem not to be part of the roaming part of the profile, they should not count for the roaming profile size. However, they definitely do. Neglecting the registry files the largest file in my profile
    is less than 500kb and there are very few files of this size. I checked locally as well as on our server.
    Deleting the local profile and starting fresh using the roaming profile from our server does work for a day or two but then I run into the same problem. Especially, loosing all local profile data is inconvenient. I could start a new with a completely new
    profile, but I am not convinced that it is a profile issue. In our organisation my computer is one of the first to move to Windows 8.1. Since my profile worked without problems for years now, I am worried that I ran into a Windows 8.1 issue. As users normally
    start to complain about a roaming profile not synchronizing only after their local copy broke, I'd like to make sure that this is a isolated issue.
    Anyone else experiencing similar issues? Any hint on how to solve the problem?
    Regards,
    Oliver

    No, I did not find a solution. However, we moved away from roaming profiles and rely on folder redirection only. That works for us. Since we can redirect the most important folders there is no more need for roaming profiles (at least in our case).

  • Tecra M9 - Upgrade to Windows 7

    Hello All,
    I am new here so please forgive if I have made a mistake. I was given a Toshiba Tecra M9 PMT90E laptop by a friend. I would like to upgrade it to Windows 7 ultimate 32 bit from Windows Vista Business 32bit.
    I have downloaded the drivers for the laptop for Windows Vista and also Windows 7. I was given a copy of Windows 7 ultimate 32 bit by another friend. I am worried about doing a fresh installation instead of an upgrade incase I mess up the boot screen and the BIOS.
    Should be worried upgrading from windows vista to windows 7 even though I have the toshiba product recovery disk for windows vista business 32 bit? I would prefer to do a fresh installation
    I can be contacted via electronic mail. The address is [email protected]

    Hey,
    If you have the Toshiba recovery disk everything is perfect and nothing can happen. :)
    You can start with Windows 7 installation but as you already wrote I would prefer a clean installation because it would faster and more stable. In case it would go something wrong you can restore the original Vista with all drivers and tools every time because you have the Toshiba recovery disk :)
    Windows installation doesnt affect the boot screen (Toshiba) and BIOS. Windows has absolutely nothing to do with that.
    So dont worry about such things. Insert and boot from Windows 7 disk and follow the screen instructions. If something would go wrong use the recovery disk.

  • Premiere Pro CS3  (Version 3.0) will not start following upgrade to Windows 8-- rest of CS3 is fine

    Recently upgraded from Windows 7 Ultimate to Windows 8 Pro;
    next time I tried to open Premiere Pro 3.0 (Adobe Master Collection CS3), splash screen scrolled normally through files being loaded until "SolidComposite.AEX", where it white-screened & crashed.
    Tried removing that file, it crashed on the next ".AEX" file; removed all ".AEX" files, it began crashing on ".dll" files;
    kept removing THEM, just for the heck of it, until the software loader couldn't even start.
    I popped in the CS3 disc to repair the installation-- on the entire suite, for good measure;
    re-booted & started Premiere-- crashed at the exact same point.
    Uninstalled and then re-installed Premiere-- the entire suite in fact, since there are so many common processes;
    couple of hours later, re-booted & started Premiere-- same exact thing at the same exact point.
    I found this same problem in at least a half-dozen threads, going back to '07--
    and several of them even mentioned the same exact file as the trigger for the crash!
    Unfortunately, not one of those threads has ever ended with an accurate diagnosis of the problem,
    nor a solution more insightful than reinstalling both the CS & the OS.
    I don't want to abandon Windows 8...
    but on the other hand, I just can't afford to pony up another grand to upgrade the CS Suite again, either...
    Besides: CS3 is everything I need, and it has worked wo well for so long--
    even now, Premiere Pro is the only software in the suite with a problem!!
    (I used Photoshop to create the above screencap)
    So I'm hoping against hope that one of you techno-gurus may have come across this ITRW--
    and actually SOLVED IT!!

    Thanks for your prompt reply, John-- and for NOT simply advising me to spend my kid's tuition on more of your company's products...
    Actually, I had tried the "Run as Administrator" option already, having found it in one of those other threads;
    there was no change in the sequence described above.
    I decided to try another possible solution which I read about in one of those other threads: opening Premiere from a different account.
    Incredibly, it WORKED-- sort of...
    I got a couple of popups advising me that missing codecs had to be installed-- and upon completion, Premiere opened!
    Here's an interesting note: the last file to load was still "SolidComposite.AEX"-- and the "White Screen" I kept seeing was Premiere opening normally.  The next thing that displayed was the normal  dialog box "Open/New Project"-- I entered a new project name, and Premiere started normally. I even added a few video files as a test... all opened normally.
    I returned to the Admin account to see if the fix was in here, too;
    but clearly the war wasn't over, over here...
    It now appears that some personal setting in the Admin account is causing Premiere to close itself;
    I've been reading about the layered security measures embedded into Windows 8-- I'm suspecting the conflict lies there...
    I ran the Windows Troubleshooter & got this:
    both MS & Adobe confirm that CS3 is fully compatible--here's my sytem info:
    Since I seem to have established a fall-back position that lets me use Premiere, my crisis becomes a mere conundrum;
    but I know this is gonna gnaw at me anyway, & I'm hoping that this new information might suggest further troubleshooting options to someone who understands the Adobe software and/or the Windows software better than I do!
    Speaking as someone who has found many solutions on forums like this over the years, I assure you:
    for every person whose post you reply to, there are many more whom you will never know you have helped!!!

  • Keyboard wireless key not working after upgrading to windows 8.1

    Hello,
    I am having hp pavilion dv6-6165tx notebook, where keyboard having a wireless button that turns ON and OFF all wireless devices, After upgrading to windows 8.1, HP Connection Manager is not getting installed, as well as Key is not working, key color turns red and white but no action is performed.
    Kindly suggest me some solution.
    Note: HP Doesn't provide drivers for windows 8/8.1 ONLY WINDOWS 7 for hp pavilion dv6-6165tx.
    Thanks.

    Hi @Jayesh_Bhadja ,
    Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have looked into your issue about your HP Pavilion dv6-6165tx Notebook and the Wireless keyboard not working correctly. Here is a link to troubleshoot the keyboard.
    The HP Connection Manager is something that is for Windows 7 not Windows 8.1. I would uninstall this from your Notebook.  Here is a link to the HP Support Assistant if you need it. Just download and run the application and it will help with the software and drivers on your system that need updating. It has a troubleshooting tool in this.
    Make sure all your updates have been completed. I would try restarting my Notebook a few times.
    If that does not help I would uninstall the keyboard from the Device manager.
    Thanks.

  • Ethernet LAN not working after upgrading to windows 8.1

    After upgrading from Windows 8 to 8.1, my Ethernet LAN is no longer working. Wireless LAN connectivity is OK. I have run the HP Support Assistant and downloaded the drivers for 8.1. Hovever, I do not see a 8.1 driver listed for the Ethernet LAN.

    You're very welcome. See if the recovery manager still works so you can roll back to W8. Please read this guide for how to use it. http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03489643 If it doesn't then you will have to order a set of recovery disks from HP, or you can install this plain W8 OEM software this guy has posted on a link. Lots of folks have used it successfully, which is why I posted it. https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B0W9PBigPy94aVJWSndyTFNFMzg/edit?pli=1 Then use this tool to make the iso file bootable to a DVD or 4+ GB USB flash drive. http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/windows-usb-dvd-download-tool Yes, that really stinks why you and I could not upgrade without an issue. I disabled about 5 or 6 devices in the device manager and the code 12 would not go away. I have no clue why the PC works fine on W8 but not on W8.1. My notebook is a few years older than yours and it worked fine on W8.1 but not on W10. Go figure...

  • Loss of internet connectivity after upgrading to windows 8.1

    Hi, After upgrading to windows 8.1 from windows 8 i am experiencing major problems , loss of internet connectivity for no reason both I.E. and G/CHROME are now taking an age to open there are no virus issues as far as i can see.
      I have uninstalled and re-installed  windows 8.1 about four times over the past 9 months or so and the same thing happens after all the updates are in it runs like a dream for say 6weeks or so then i get the same faults as described above then i uninstall/ re-install ok for 6 weeks .
      I would apprieate any help or advice thanks

    Hi @BMATH
    Thank you your query.
    I understand that after updating to Windows 8.1 about every 6 weeks you loose wireless connectivity for no reason  and the web pages are very slow to open.  If you uninstall and reinstall Windows 8.1 it works fine again for about the same amount of time.  You have done this about 4 times with the same result each time.
    Do you know if there is any changes at that time , perhaps an update?
    You stated you do not believe you have any viruses.  Just to be sure here are two links that will help confirm that.

    After updating to Windows 8.1 have you checked for Windows updates?
    Have you ran HP Support Assistant ?
