Huge ntuser.dat.LOG1 since upgrade to Windows 8.1 prohibits roaming of user profile

Hello,
a few days ago my PC (part of our domain) first started to have problems with my user profile. Our domain uses roaming profiles with a size limit of 30MB. My user.dat has a size of 12.5MB. Up to now this did not cause any problems (and does not cause any for
most users of our domain having a user.dat of similar size). However, after upgrading to Windows 8.1 I repeadly have problems with my profile exceeding its maximum size. After checking my profile, I found a ntuser.dat.LOG1 with 12,5MB in size and a ntuser.dat.LOG2
of 2MB. As far as I know these files are used to store temporary transactions for the user.dat. But why are they this large? Together they almost completely fill the profile. As an interesting side node the last modification of ntuser.dat.LOG1 dates back more
then seven days.
What is further puzzling me: ntuser.dat.LOG1 and ntuser.dat.LOG2 are not synchronized with the roaming profile on the server. At least they are not on the server. However there used to be much smaller versions of these files which could have been transfered
before the profile size exceeded its limit. Since these file seem not to be part of the roaming part of the profile, they should not count for the roaming profile size. However, they definitely do. Neglecting the registry files the largest file in my profile
is less than 500kb and there are very few files of this size. I checked locally as well as on our server.
Deleting the local profile and starting fresh using the roaming profile from our server does work for a day or two but then I run into the same problem. Especially, loosing all local profile data is inconvenient. I could start a new with a completely new
profile, but I am not convinced that it is a profile issue. In our organisation my computer is one of the first to move to Windows 8.1. Since my profile worked without problems for years now, I am worried that I ran into a Windows 8.1 issue. As users normally
start to complain about a roaming profile not synchronizing only after their local copy broke, I'd like to make sure that this is a isolated issue.
Anyone else experiencing similar issues? Any hint on how to solve the problem?

No, I did not find a solution. However, we moved away from roaming profiles and rely on folder redirection only. That works for us. Since we can redirect the most important folders there is no more need for roaming profiles (at least in our case).

    I honestly don't know if DW CS5 is compatible with Win 8.1.  The OS compatibility FAQ only mentions DW CS6 & CC.

    I can't help you with why your PC won't upgrade to W8.1, but I can tell you that if you manage to get W8.1 to install, you won't be able to get the graphics to work anymore.
    There is no W8.1 driver for the graphics setup in your PC.
    So maybe it is a good thing that you can't get it to work.

    If there are problems with importing the IE Favorites in Firefox then export the favorites in IE to an HTML file and import that file in the Firefox Bookmarks Manager.
    If you do not have the menu bar in IE then right-click the toolbar at the top to enable the Menu Bar.

    Hi , Welcome to the HP Forums, and thanks for posting! :cathappy: I'd like to help you get your HP Photosmart 7525 e-All-in-One printer up and running on your new Windows 10 operating system. You've mentioned that you already tried installing the drivers from the HP website. If the Windows 10 driver that you have downloaded does not work, I'd recommend trying the Windows 8.1 driver (the operating systems have the same core functionality, so the Windows 8.1 driver works fine on Windows 10). You can also try uninstalling the software you do have, and re-installing using the HP Printer Install Wizard. The Printer Install Wizard, can fix many software issues automatically. Hope this helps!

    Hi there Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome! I just need your specific Model Number (How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?) I read your post on the HP Support Forums and see that you are having issues with your HP Pavilion dv6700 Entertainment Notebook PC. I understand that since you have upgraded to Windows 10, you are having an issue with your sound not working. I would be happy to assist you. Please note remove any and all USB devices. Disconnect all non-essential devices, as these could cause some issues. Have you tried in the Device Manager to update the driver that is currently installed? Have you tried to select "Find New Hardware" in the Device Manager?Have you tried connecting headphones to see if the Sound issues persist that way?Have you tried to uninstall in the following order: 1. Uninstall the sound driver in Device Manager2. Restart your Notebook3. Reinstall the driver? You can use the HP Support Assistant for drivers. Here is a link to the HP Support Assistant if you need it. Just download and run the application and it will help with the software and drivers on your system that need updating for Windows 10.     The instructions below are included on the site. These do not make sense in Windows 8.1. Right clicking on the 'vpn connection' does not give any additional pop up options (so no properties to change). I also cannot find any options to change the
    'Security' settings as described. These instructions are for Windows 8.0, is 8.1 really that much different?

  • Since upgrade to Windows 8, cannot save .rdp files under the Remote Desktop Connection application on the Desktop

    Since I upgraded to Windows 8, I am no longer able to save individual Remote Desktop Connection files as .rdp files. I am talking about the traditional Remote Desktop Connection application on the Desktop that was in previous Windows versions, not the
    Remote Desktop App from the Windows 8 store.
    When I try to click on the Save button I get "An error occurred while saving to file"
    When I try to click on the Save As button I get "Unable to open connection file" with the file address being where I tried to save it with the file name at the end.
    Also when I upgraded to Windows 8, my .rdp files disappeared from my Documents folder.
     I need to create different .rdp files for different programs that my employees get into on my server. Now I have to hand type all the info each time into the Programs tap on the Remote Desktop Connection window, because I can't save to an
    .rdp file.
     I like the Remote Desktop App from the Windows store but it won't let me designate specific programs to use using standard dos notation (ie c:\program files\ etc..). It just goes to my server desktop.
     I want to promote Windows 8 to my employees but I need either .rdp files for the traditional Remote Desktop Connection or the ability to open specific programs using dos notation in the Windows Store Remote Desktop App.

    You don't need to worry too much about what's in here. Save the text file as
    filename.rdp then rightclick on the file and select edit. The familiar GUI rdp session editor will open. You can make changes in the GUI and
    save or save as a different session.

  • Now that I've reinstalled Norton since upgrading to Windows 10 on Thursday, the

    I upgraded from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 Thursday night.  I then downloaded Norton from the Comcast website after signing in with my Comcast account since the upgrade apparently did not carry over my Comcast provided Norton antivirus suite.  After an initial snafu, it downloaded properly and is working.  However, when i open Norton to run updates or scans manually, the bottom of that window (or pop up) says "Subscription Status: Activation Reguired   Activate Now"  When I click on Activate Now it apparently tries to connect with Norton and then defaults back to the initial window (or pop up).  Seems to work fine but why am I getting that prompt?  What do I do?

    Thanks for the feedback SteveGreene.  I am pleased you got things working correctly again.
    The agent got things fixed quickly because they have had to do it so many times - with so many users trying to install Win 10 as soon as it came out rather than checking to make sure that Norton was upgraded prior to installing WIn 10.
    It is a long story I do not care to repeat everytime it is asked - but if you do some research on the Norton Forums, you will see the first version update for Win 10 was the bomb and many things had to be corrected.  IMHO -Comcast users were lucky they did not receive that update and go throughy all the probelms it caused, but rather Norton waited until they had it righyt before the update was relased to Comcast users. The poor part of it was Norton did not bother to tell the Comcast (nor the retail product users) that their Norton products had to be upgraded to version 22.5.2.15 prior to being able to insatl Win 10 and have Norton continue to work.

  • Title Format Issues Since Upgrade to Windows XP Internet Explorer 8

    My users are having a problem with the title layout of their Discoverer Plus reports ever since they had thies PC upgraded from Windows 2000 Internet Explorer 6 to Windows XP Internet Explorer 8. One aspect of their titles is that they have an &parameters in the title. The values for this one paramater has dozens and dozens of paramater values. For example: Project # 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.......87. That's what they want to appear in their title screen, all those project #s. The core of the problem is this list of values going across their title screen is no longer wrapping to the next line since they moved to XP IE 8. It's forcing this long list of project #s to be all on one line (cutting off the list of projects when it reaches the end of the page).
    When my users were on Windows 2000 Internet Explorer 6, the project values would wrap to the next line without any problem (creates 4 or 5 lines of project #s). They have been having the title issue since their PCs have been upgraded to Windows XP Internet Explorer 8. When I edit the header from a 2000 IE6 machine (where it works from), the font is Arial. But, if I edit the header on an XP IE8 machine the font says dialog and the wrapping doesn't work. If I try to change the font to Arial, hit ok, nothing changes and it seems to reset back to dialog when I go back in to edit.
    Anyone else have this problem or know of a solution?

    Not all versions of Discoverer are certified for use with IE8. You will find this note on Oracle Support (https://support.oracle.com/CSP/ui/flash.html) very useful: 233047.1
    In there it states that only Discoverer 11g and Discoverer 10g (patched up to 10.1.2.3) are certified with IE8. Discoverer 10g (10.1.2.2 and earlier) is certified for IE6 and IE7 but not IE8 and Oracle has no plans to certify 10.1.2.2 with IE8.
    Older releases of Discoverer, prior to 10.1.2, are generally only certified for IE6.
