Accesing external data from Portal

HI
I've been working with Portal, and I dont know yet how can I acces data from another Data Base in another computer. I did it using dblinks, but I just want to know if its possible to configure the portal DAD in order to do this.
I hope someone could help me,
Thanks.

Hi Suresh,
There is simple method to access the data from these tables.
1) Create connection to portal database , as all these tables resides in it i.e. oracle database
2) Just fire simple SQL queries on these tables to get intended data.
To see the fields in given table please see  this link - http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/en/47/873464c84a199ce10000000a42189d/content.htm
If anything needful, please revert.

Vishal

  • Accessing External Data from SharePoint 2010

I want to access external data from my SharePoint site.
I'm told that I need to follow these two articles.
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff953161.aspx
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff625800.aspx
I followed the first article but I get this error when I open the external list in my SharePoint site:
"Unable to display this Web Part. To troubleshoot the problem, open this Web page in a Microsoft SharePoint Foundation-compatible HTML editor such as Microsoft SharePoint Designer. If the problem persists, contact your Web server administrator."
I don't know how to write a custom code
BTW I have installed PowerPivot on my SharePoint server.
Can someone please help me? I need to do this very quickly.

    Hi,
Can you please elaborate whether the data you are getting is from excel file or from database.
    1. If you are populating it from excel , then you can use the Excel service, Power pivot etc mechanism.
    2. If you are getting it from SQL database then you can use BCS service application and use the OOTB external list and content type to display the same in your home page.
Links of artcles are given below.

  • Getting exception while accessing External WebServices from Portal Componen

    Hi,
We are using one external Temperature WebService and calling it from the proxy which is called by a Portal Component. My proxy name is TempService and portal component name is TempComponent. While calling the web service from portal component we are getting the exception. When I checked with log file, I got that invokeMethod() is failing and following exception is occuring :

Can some one help us to resolve it.
    Thanks in advance,

As far as I know, webservices are working pretty well from SP2 Patch4. On patch3 hf2 I've had problems creating the proxy classes (especially for consuming .net webservices) and also gotten some runtime exception (cannot remember what they were).
Suggest you open an OSS against SAP with your specific problem.

  • POWER QUERY Get External Data From File From Folder (Excel 2013)

    Hi,
    Beginner's question :
What could be the use of the query on a folder : we just get a list of files with their path. What can we do with that?
    Thanks

    Hi,
Do you want to combine data from multiple Excel Files in the same folder path into one table? If I understand correct, we can add a custom column to import the data.
After we getting a list of files with their path, the Query Editor window will activate to show you a table containing a record for each file in the chosen directory. These will provide our function with the needed FilePath and FileName parameters.
Function sample: File name([Folder path],[Field name]
For more detailed steps, please see the article:

  • Retreive External data from SQL making connection to SQL server take a long time

I have an Excel pivottable based on a view from SQL server. The view gets data from 2 databases on the sames server. I have the sames login for both databases and also the same rights (datareader, datawriter and owner). When running the view from within
the SQL Server management tool it goes quick. In Excel once the connection is made everything goes fast. Only making the connection takes a very long time. When I use a view with data from a single database then everything is fine and goes fast.
Example of the situation: I use the example view below in an excel pivot. This gives as result that the connection takes very long.
    SQLServer A
View CustomerInfo which contains the following query.
Select * FROM databaseA.dbo.Customers as Customers
    CROSS APPLY
    SELECT *
    FROM databaseB.dbo.Contacts as Contacts
    Where Customers.Number = Contacts.CustomerNumber
    ) AS Contactdata
When I remove the CROSS APPLY part, the connection is made directly
We login to SQL with normal logon  (not windows security) The user has the same rights on both databases.
I hope the problem is clear. Does anyone have an idea of how I can solve this problem?

    -1* ( prior dataid ) = parentid
is it multiplying -1 times the prior dataid ?that's exactly what it's doing
    you need:
    prior dataid = ABS(parentid);
not knowing you're data, and therefore assuming that dataid is always positive (since it doesn't have an ABS), and that parentid can be positive or negative, your criteria becomes
parentid = prior dataid (handles both are positive)
or parentid = negative of prior dataid (handles parentid is neg, dataid is pos)
since the "prior" must be right next to the column (dataid), I put parens around the whole thing, and then mult by -1

  • How to access ,Oracle 7.x,SQL server,MS access data from portal 3.0.7

    hi,
i am sorry to repost it . but
we r badly in need of accessing data from Oracle 7.x,SQL Server and access to Portal3.0.7 Applications.
    pl. help us.
    null

    Hi swati,
    1. for this u will also require help of basis team.
    2. these are the steps.
    a) make an entry in DBCON
    b) make connection string
    (on the physical application server,
so that it can connect to secondary database)
(this will be done by basis team,
in which, they will specify the
IP address of the secondary database server,
the DATABASE ID, and the port number)
    c) then using open sql / native sql,
we can use the secondary database connection,
    just like normal.
    d) if we use open sql,
then there must be Y/Z table on
sap as well as secondary database,
and the field names , their type all should be identical.

    amit m.

  • How to fetch published data from portal using ABAP

    Hello,
I have a file published in the portal (with broadcaster). Now I want to use this file in an ABAP program. I can't call the web address directly because my program can't handle the Portal authentication. So I have two questions:
    - is there any way to call Portal-websites which require authentication from ABAP?
    or
    - how can I directly get access to the file without detour over the Portal (where is the place in file system).
    Thank you very much!

    Hello Adrian,

What do you mean with "mapped drive" - <a href="http://http://help.sap.com/saphelp_erp2005vp/helpdata/en/42/e915d951f23ee0e10000000a1553f6/frameset.htm">this</a>? I guess I could choose this drive in broadcaster at "export document in any folder" (don't know exactly English label because my system is in German language...)?
    > I dont really see the value of publishing the report

I need to get the image of a BW-chart in ABAP because I want to use it in SAP Interactive Forms by Adobe (I have an ABAP program to fetch my data and create the form). I could create my own chart of the data with the Internet Graphics Service but this would be a lot of work. You can create this charts very easily using the Chart Designer which i.e. is included in the Web Application Designer. If you create a Web Site containing a chart you can access this via browser and you have the chart as an image (created from current data). I tried simply to call this website with ABAP but I can not "log in" and so I have no access to this page. Because of this I had the idea to use the broadcaster to automatically publish this Web Application when my data were updated. If I use MHTML my chart-image is saved separately. This just would work for me. And now I want to get this image as a binary with ABAP.
I hope you understand my problem.

  • Adding external data from another forest?

    Hello Community
The following 2 scenarios are how data is entered and stored in a non-Sharepoint environment:
Scenario a) C# ASP.Net or C# Windows applications are used to enter data that gets stored
into SQL Server databases on a network.
Scenario b) Users create Word applications, Excel Spreadsheets, PDF's, etc and the data is
stored in folders on servers on a network.
In the future a Sharepoint 2013 Server farm is created in a domain in a separate forest.
        The question(s) is:
#1) How do you add those servers that contain the data in the pre-existing
SQL Server databased to the Sharepoint 2013 farm?
#2) How do you add those servers that contain the data in the pre-existing
Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, PDF's, etc into the Sharepoint 2013 farm?
#3) If it exists, what 3rd party software stated in either #1 and/or #2 above can
add those servers or import that data on those servers into the Sharepoint 2013 farm?
Note: If BCS can be used does each client need to have Microsoft Office 2013 installed
              on each client computer?
        Thank you
        Shabeaut

SharePoint won't be able to manage documents in those custom/3rd party databases. If this is a 3rd party database, there may be a solution to migrate the information into SharePoint. If it is custom/in-house, then you'll need to build migration utilities
    yourself.
Ideally, those documents should reside within Document Libraries in SharePoint to have full management over those documents.
As for BCS, it is meant more for display List-style data, not documents. But clients do not have to have any components installed to leverage BCS, as BCS is a service on SharePoint.

  • How to load external data without using external tables

    Hi,
I'm asked to develop an ETL for loading external data into a database but, unfortunately, the vers. is 8i so I can't use external tables.
I know that it's possible by using SQL-Loader. What I want to know is whether there's another way in 8i to load external data from a text file or a CSV file directly with a stored procedure without having to write CTL of SQL-Loader on the server. I mean, is there a way to write everything on the database the same manner I'd do whether I wrote data from a table to a file using for example UTL_FILE or the unique way is to write control files of SQL-Loader directly on the server?
    Thanks!

    Mark1970 wrote:
    Thank you very much Karthick
I didn't know I could use UTL_FILE also for reading files. I've always use it only for writing data into external files.Yes you can use UTL_FILE to read. The version of oracle you are using i last used in 2004 :) Still remember giving the OS path of the file to open the file. That is long gone now. Its surprising that you are still in 8i.

  • External Data in Customs Declarations

    Hello -
What BAdIs can be used to default external data from the Feeder System (but not from a PO, Inbound Delivery, or Goods Receipt document) into a GTS Customs Declaration?

    Hi ,
There is way to default data from Feeder system , suppose you need data like Bill of Lading to be pushed on custom declaration in GTS
you can use BADi /SAPSLL/IFEX_MM0C_R3 which is called at time of  GR  to transfer Bill of Lading value in additional data ( this field is available in the structure of the Badi ) to GTS on customs declaration document  and then use another BAdi /SAPSLL/CUHD_PROP to default the data to the particluar field where you want this to get defaulted.
Not sure this is what you looking for.
