Access arrayobject from class method

Hi,
Can anyone tell me how to access the variables in an object array from a static method of the same class?
In another class i create a object array
MyClass[][] myObjectArray = new MyClass[3][3]
In MyClass there is a declaration:
public int myInt = 1
and a class method:
public static myMethod(){
int intVar = "this is where i would like to read the value of myInt for each object, something like myObjectArray[0][0].myInt + myObjectArray[1][2].myInt, but it does not work"
I guess something with "this" or "super", but dont know how.
Thanks,
/Thomas

It should obviously be impossible to access any Instance
in a class-method.
You could pass it as an parameter though:
public static void myMethod(MyClass[][] myCl)

    I have no idea how to use variables - there are no global variables in classes.
    thx

    Hi,
    The super reference can only be used in redefined methods to call superclass implementation . So probably what you can do is use upcasting and access the required superclass implementation. I can think of only this way...;-)
    Ex data lr_super type ref to cl_superclass
    lr_super = lr_subclass.
    lr_super->method().

  • How to call inner class method in one java file from another java file?

    hello guyz, i m tryin to access an inner class method defined in one class from another class... i m posting the code too wit error. plz help me out.
    // test1.java
    public class test1
         public test1()
              test t = new test();
         public class test
              test()
              public int geti()
                   int i=10;
                   return i;
    // test2.java
    class test2
         public static void main(String[] args)
              test1 t1 = new test1();
              System.out.println(t1.t.i);
    i m getting error as
    test2.java:7: cannot resolve symbol
    symbol : variable t
    location: class test1
              System.out.println(t1.t.geti());
    ^

    There are various ways to define and use nested classes. Here is a common pattern. The inner class is private but implements an interface visible to the client. The enclosing class provides a factory method to create instances of the inner class.
    interface I {
        void method();
    class Outer {
        private String name;
        public Outer(String name) {
            this.name = name;
        public I createInner() {
            return new Inner();
        private class Inner implements I {
            public void method() {
                System.out.format("Enclosing object's name is %s%n", name);
    public class Demo {
        public static void main(String[] args) {
            Outer outer = new Outer("Otto");
            I junior = outer.createInner();
            junior.method();
    }

  • Why eclipse gives me warning if I access in inner class a parent  field ?

    I have a class
    class A{
    private Map fValues;
    A(){
    fValues= new HashMap();
    prrotected class B {
    B(){
    fValues.get("String");
    Above class is only for an example to expalin my problem.
    Inner class B wants to access fValues from class A .
    The eclipse gives me a warning
    Access to enclosing method fValues from the type A is emulated by a synthetic accessor method. Increasing its visibility will improve your performance
         I order to get rid of this warning I must make fValues public is this the only solution ?

  • Invoking Derived Class Method

    Hi pls go through the below code, can any one give me solution how to access the Derived class method in this Point.
    Note: In the below code , only in runtime we will come to know which Derived class method is going to invoke(So in runtime we will get Derived class name in the form of String). So Iam trying to Use Class.forName("Clas name") to create the instance of the Derived class and then type casting to base class.
    Why iam casting to base class is , since only in the run time we are geting the Derived class name.
    Result : iam geting the compiletime error says that no valid method fond in Mybase though it contains the reference of derived.
    abstract class MyBase
    public void display(int i)
    System.out.println(" Base class Method");
    class MyDerived extends MyBase
    public void display(String str)
    System.out.println("Derived class Mthode");
    class MyMain
    public static void main(String arg[])
    String DrivObj=arg[0];
    MyBase baseObj=(MyBase) Class.forName("DrivObj").newInstance();
    baseObj.display("SomeString"); }
    }

    The problem is, can not have subclass reference bcoz
    iam geting the subclass name only in the runtime and
    one more thing is cant touch my base and subclass to
    do changes as u said Your design is then definately very bad.
    , is there any other way to do
    it.Yes, you can use reflection to invoke the method.

  • Accessing view object class (impl) method from bean (or vice versa)

    Halo everyone, I am using JDeveloper 11.1.2.1.0
    I have a UsersViewImpl class with a method which refresh the user table like below.
    public void resetEmployeeSearch() {
    removeApplyViewCriteriaName("viewCriteria");
    executeQuery();
    and I have a UserBean class with a method which reset the search fields values like below.
    public void resetInput(ActionEvent actionEvent) {
    ........RichInputText = input ...
    input.setValue("");
    AdfFacesContext.getCurrentInstance().addPartialTarget(searchForm);
    I would like to implement it in such a way that, once I press a button, both methods will be called.
    I have tried to call from bean method using UsersViewImpl vs = new UsersViewImpl ..... which is wrong and wont work.
    I have read about doing something like ViewObject vo = am.findViewObject("DeptView1") but I duno how to use it because I cant have a proper example.
    Any suggestion on accessing view object class (impl) method from bean (or vice versa)?
    Or is there any way to combine both method in the same class ?
    Thank you :(

    User, if you get class not found exceptions you need to tell us which classes you can't find. The JSFUtils and ADFUtils classes needing some other libraries which should already be part of your Fusion Web Application template (which your adf application should be based on). If you did not use this application template, you may have to add some libraries yourself.
    What is the diff of using the ADFUtils and OperationBinding way?
    The ADFUtils can get you access to the application module which you then use to call exposed methods on. The disadvantage of doing this is that you have to implement your own exception framework which then handles exceptions thrown by the application module. An other thing is that if you e.g. alter a VO which you use on the page this changes are not seen on the page until you refresh the page. The binding layer does not know about these changes so the iterators (which are used on the page to show the data) are not refreshed and so you don't see the changes.
    In general you should avoid using the application modul in a managed bean method and always use the binding layer (OperationBinding) to call methods. This ensures that exceptions are all handled the same way and that changes to the data model are reflected in the GUI.

  • Accessing variable from another class

    Say I want to access String ABC from class XYZ from my main class. I have already created the object for the class I just don't know the syntax for accessing the variable.
    This is just an example. I figured this is just a problem of finding the right syntax so I didn't bother creating a compiling code.
    public class test{
    public static void main(String[]args){
         XYZ xyz = new XYZ ();
         String a = abc.XYZ(); // this is where i want to directly access the variable abc. i know this isn't correct and it's what im trying to find out how to do.
    public class XYZ{
         String abc = "hi";
    }Edited by: aznprdgy on Nov 3, 2009 2:13 PM

    No, that isn't possible.
    abc is said to be a local variable. And it's only useable within method().
    It's part of the job of the class Xyz to control the access to its state. As an example:
    public class Test {
        public static void main(String[] args) {
            Xyz xyz = new Xyz()
            String a = xyz.getSpecialValue();
    public class Xyz {
        private String a;
        public String getSpecialValue() {
            return a;
        public void method() {
            a = "hi";
    }Note that a won't be reference to the string "hi" until after method() has been called.

  • Few basic doubts about accessing AM from backing bean class

    Hi ADF experts,
    I have just started working in ADF Faces.I made a sample search page.My page is attached to a managed backing bean. I have attached command button on my page to a custom method in backing bean class.
    So on, click of button this method is called in backing bean.Now, i have few doubts:
    1)How to get values of various UI beans in this event code?
    2)I am accesing AM , in my method with this code:
    FacesContext facesContext = FacesContext.getCurrentInstance();
    ExternalContext extContext = facesContext.getExternalContext();
    Application app = facesContext.getApplication();
    DCBindingContainer binding = (DCBindingContainer)app.getVariableResolver().resolveVariable(facesContext, "bindings");
    //Accessing AM
    ApplicationModule am = binding.getDataControl().getApplicationModule();
    iS this correct ?
    3) After getting handle of am how to call my custom method in AM Class?there was "invokeMethod" API in application module class in OAF, is there any such method here?
    Please help me.

    Thanks for ur response Frank, actually I am from OA Framework back ground.It would be great if help us a little with ur valuble thoughts.
    OA Framework also uses bc4j in model layer of framework. We have a requirement where our existing developers from OA Framework have to move to ADF to make a new application where time lines are quite strict.If this would not be possible we will switch to plain jsp and jdbc,but our tech experts say ADF Faces is the best tech.
    In OA Framework, Application Module is key class for all busiess logic and Controller is used for page navigation. So, I m just trying to find the same similarity , where we write we add all event codes in custom action methods in the backing bean class of page, which we consider equivalent to process form request method in Controller class of OAF.
    But there are two things, I still want to know:
    1)While page render, how to call specific AM methods(like setting where clause of certain VOs)
    2)In action methods, the way i described(I found that in one thread only)to access AM, what is wrong in that?Also, I went through
    http://radio.weblogs.com/0118231/stories/2004/09/23/notYetDocumentedAdfSampleApplications.html
    where coule of examples use similar approach to access AM from backing bean class and call custom methods of AM(Doing various, deletes etc from VOs).
    3)In these methods can we set any property of beans on the page, I am asking because in OAF, generally we use PPR for js alternatives.But all properties of beans cannot be set in post event.
    Thanks and Regards

  • How do I access array elements in one method from another method?

    Hi all!
    How do I access the array's elements from another method so that method 2 can have access to method 1's array elements? Thanks for any help!
    I am trying to create a simply program that will use a method to create an array and a SEPARATE method that will sort the array's elements (without using java's built in array features). I can create the program by simply having one method and sorting the array within that same method, BUT I want to sort the array from another method.
    Here's my code so far:
    public class ArraySort {
       public static void createArray(int size){
           double myArray[] = new double[size];    //create my new array
           for(int j=0; j < myArray.length; j++)
              myArray[j] = (200.0 * Math.random() + 1.0);   //fill the array with random numbers
       public static void sortArray(){
           // I WANT THIS METHOD TO ACCESS THE ARRAY ELEMENTS IN THE METHOD ABOVE, BUT DON'T KNOW
          //  HOW???? Please help!
        public static void main(String[] args) {
            createArray(4);    //call to create the array
    }Thanks again!
    - Johnny

    Thanks for the help all! I ve managed to get the program working, using java's built in array sort, but when i try to call on the array sort method from WITHIN my main method, nothing happens!
    Can somebody please tell me why I am not able to call on the sort method from within my main class???? Thanks!
    public class ArraySort {
       public void createArray(double[] arrayName, int size){
           double myArray[] = new double[size];  //create new array
           for(int j=0; j < myArray.length; j++)
              myArray[j] = (200.0 * Math.random() + 1.0);    //populate array with
           }                                                 //random Numbers
           sortArray(myArray);
       } //Sort array(if I delete this & try to use it in Main method --> doesn't work???
       public void sortArray(double[] arrayName){
           DecimalFormat time = new DecimalFormat("0.00");
           Arrays.sort(arrayName);      //sort array using Java's built in array method
           for(int i = 0; i <arrayName.length; i++)
               System.out.println(time.format(arrayName)); //print arary elements
    public static void main(String[] args) {
    ArraySort newArray = new ArraySort(); //create a new instance
    double myArray[] = new double[0]; //create a new double array
    newArray.createArray(myArray,4); //build the array of indicated size
    //newArray.sortArray(myArray); //This will not work???? WHY?????//

  • Access global data of report in global class methods?

    Hi all,
    I have defined one global class in SE24 and i am using methods of this class in report program.
    Can i access global data of my report program in class methods directly without declaring it as IMPORT
    parameter?
    Thanks,
    Apita

    Hi,
    Well, now you did confuse me: first you asked about using global data of a report program in global class (created in SE24), and the answer is: no, you can't directly access the global data of another program in a method of global class (yes, you should pass them via importing parameters), and you shouldn't even consider using indirect means of doing so via special form of ASSIGN statement reserved for internal use by SAP. The ASSIGN will not work if someone reuses the global class elsewhere in the system without loading your report. Don't ever program such atrocious dependencies in global class...
    And now you ask about the use "in method implementation in report program"..? Just to be sure - you can't program the implementation of a global class method in a report program.
    You can program a local class inheriting from a global class and redefine/re-implement methods of such global super-class in a report program. Global data of report program, including the selection screen, would be directly accessible to such local class. It would still not be a good idea to use this access:
    Conversely, within an encapsulated unit, that is, within a class, you should avoid accessing more global data directly. Within methods, you should generally modify attributes of the class only. Write access to global data outside the class is not recommended. Accessing data in this way should only be done using specially marked methods, if at all. The use of methods of a class should not evoke any side effects outside the class itself.

  • Unable to access class methods

    I have this class linked to a movieclip. I am attemping to
    access navPanelClose() from another class in the same package but
    get the error:
    1061: Call to a possibly undefined method navPanelClose
    through a reference with static type Class.
    Here is the Class:
    package classes.util{
    import flash.display.MovieClip;
    import flash.display.Sprite;
    import flash.events.MouseEvent;
    import flash.events.Event;
    import flash.events.TimerEvent;
    import flash.utils.Timer;
    public class NavInstructions extends MovieClip {
    private var _timer:Timer;
    public function NavInstructions() {
    Glo.bal.navPanel = this;
    public function navPanelClose() {
    _timer = new Timer(30);
    _timer.addEventListener("timer", easeToLoc(722,379.8));
    _timer.start();
    public function navPanelOpen() {
    _timer = new Timer(30);
    _timer.addEventListener("timer", easeToLoc(722, 285.5));
    _timer.start();
    private function easeToLoc(targetX:Number,targetY:Number) {
    var _easingSpeed:Number = 0.1;
    var dx:Number = targetX - this.x;
    var dy:Number = targetY - this.y;
    var dist:Number = Math.sqrt(dx * dx + dy * dy);
    if (dist < 1) {
    this.x = targetX;
    this.y = targetY;
    _timer.stop();
    _timer.removeEventListener("timer", easeToLoc);
    } else {
    this.x += dx * _easingSpeed;
    this.y += dy * _easingSpeed;
    What am I missing here?

    quote:
    Please help me understand why. I have the easeToLoc setup to
    received input variables:
    The syntax of ActionScript dictates that you refer to the
    callback function in the way that I pointed out. The only argument
    that is passed to that listener function is an event object. This
    is what it expects, nothing more. Take a look at the
    docs
    for more info, specifically the categories under Programming
    ActionScript 3.0 -> Handling Events.
    Looking at navPanelClose() and navPanelOpen(), the values
    you're trying to pass seem more like constants to me, not
    variables. So why not declare them as constants within this class
    and refer to them as such within easeToLoc()? If you truly want to
    use variables, perhaps creating a separate utility class to handle
    this logic will work better.
    When trying to access a method within one class from another
    ...let's say you want to access myMethod() within class MyAClass
    from class MyBClass. You could:
    1. Declare myMethod() as static and then refer to it from
    anywhere after importing MyAClass. So you can call
    MyAClass.myMethod() without having to instantiate MyAClass. This is
    what you're trying to do here, I think.
    2. Have class MyBClass extend MyAClass where myMethod() is
    public or protected and MyBClass is in the same package as MyAClass
    when it's declared as protected. For this to work you'd have to
    instantiate MyBClass.

  • Please Help!!! Problems access other classes methods

    I am having a problem accessing another classes methods varibles. I have tried a number of ways but with no success. Here is my problem:
    I have the main(), from there it's calls the class GetVar(), GetVar stores info in Class HousingForVar(), and finially, I have a class TryinToTalkToHousing() that I use to access HousingForVar()'s methods. I know I can use the keyword new but if I do that then it erases over the data I put in. Please can anyone help, this has been driving me nutz all day. Thank you in advance.
