Access to Class Instance inside TileList and DataProvider?

I have a TileList that is fed by a DataProvider.  The DataProvider places a source Class (and corresponding MovieClip) into the TileList as visual and interactive objects.
     dpChords.addItem({ label:tt, source:ChordUnit, data:i, scaleContent:true });
How do I pass unique values to the instances of the "ChordUnit" within the TileList?
public function setChordBin(song:int):void {
          var dpChords:DataProvider = new DataProvider();
          var i:uint;
          // determine chord set
          if (song == -1) {
                    activeChords = allChords;
           else {
                    activeChords = songChordSets[song];
          // fill dataProvider
          for(i=0; i<activeChords.length; i++) {
                    var tt = activeChords[i];
          dpChords.addItem({ label:tt, source:ChordUnit, data:i, scaleContent:true });
          chordBin.dataProvider = dpChords;
     // FORMATTING
          chordBin.columnWidth = 105;
     chordBin.rowHeight = 115;
          chordBin.direction = ScrollBarDirection.HORIZONTAL;
          chordBin.setStyle("contentPadding", 5);
          chordBin.setRendererStyle("imagePadding", 0);
          chordBin.scrollPolicy  = ScrollPolicy.ON;
          // set style for labels
          chordBin.setRendererStyle("textFormat", textFormat2);
          // set the background skin
          chordBin.setStyle("skin", lightBackground);
          //set the cell renderer
          chordBin.setStyle("cellRenderer", MyTileListRenderer);
    // EVENTS
          chordBin.addEventListener(ListEvent.ITEM_ROLL_OVER, chordBinItemOVER);
          chordBin.addEventListener(ListEvent.ITEM_ROLL_OUT, chordBinItemOUT);
          chordBin.addEventListener(ListEvent.ITEM_CLICK, chordBinItemCLICK);

Here is the "" Class:
package {
          // associates to "ChordUnit" MC graphic in library
          import flash.display.*;
          import flash.events.*;
          import flash.net.URLRequest;
          public class ChordUnit extends MovieClip {
               public var imagePath:String;
               public function ChordUnit():void {
                    loadDiagramImage(imagePath);
               public function loadDiagramImage(imagePath:String) {
                    trace (imagePath)
                    var request:URLRequest = new URLRequest(imagePath);
                   this.diagramView.scaleContent = true;
                    // this.diagramView.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE,loadComplete);
                    // this.diagramView.addEventListener(ProgressEvent.PROGRESS,loadProgress);
                    this.diagramView.load(request);
Of course, without being able to pass a unique "imagePath" value into the Class instance, the trace is "null".

  • I want to access that BEA instance variable inside of a external java class

    Hi,
    This is N.pradeep. I am a java programmer, and I am new to BEA AquaLogic BPM studio5.7. I have a question regarding how to retrieve an instance variable of BEA Aqua Logic to an external Java Program. i.e. I want to access that BEA instance variable inside of a external java class, and vice versa.

    You can use PAPI or PAPI-WS for accessing BPM instance variable from a Java code, thougt I am not sure how the reverse will be done. Assuming that you are aware aof PAPI-WS and have created the necessary stubs out of the PAPI-WS WSDL using Axis, you can access instance variables using the API's or operations defined therein.

  • Access parent class from instance of nested class

    Hi,
    I have the following class hierarchy:
    public class BaseClass
    public class ParentClass
      private NestedClass    mNestedClass;
      public ParentClass()
        mNestedClass = new NestedClass();
      protected NestedClass getNestedClass()
        return mNestedClass;
      public static BaseClass createParentClass()
        parentClass = new ParentClass();
        // some code...
        return parentClass.getNestedClass();
      protected class NestedClass extends BaseClass
        NestedClass( int i )
          // some other code...
    }I cannot modify the classes above, as they are third-party and they are subject to changes...
    In my code, I may only use the static method to create an instance of ParentClass, because there is some important code (not accessible outside of the package) instead of the comments. The problem is that the static method only returns me an instance of the NestedClass, but not the ParentClass. For some reasons, I would need to access the instance of ParentClass.
    Is there a way (Java syntax, I mean) that would allow me to access from an instance of NestedClass the corresponding ParentClass instance?
    I know that inside a NestedClass method I may use ParentClass.this, but, as I wrote above, that class cannot be modified. Worse, I am not able to extend it neither, because the constructor is not public (or at least protected)...
    Please, does anybody have the correct answer?
    Thanks,
    Adrian

    There are at least 3 funny things in the code you posted:
    1) an instance of NestedClass cannot be created with "new NestedClass()", because the only constructor is NestedClass(int)
    2) I can't see why a method called "createParentClass" should return an instance of NestedClass
    3) The funniest: I really can't understand why you "may only use the static method to create an instance of ParentClass": if the ParentClass developer didn't want you to instantiate it directly, why did he made the constructor public?
    But the fact is there's no way to access the enclosing object of a nested object if the sw architect didn't want this (maybe including in the interface a method like this:
    class EnclosingClass {
      class NestedClass {
       EnclosingClass getEnclosingObject() {
        return EnclosingClass.this;
    This simply should break encapsulation and object hyerarchy security... really a bad thing I guess!!

  • How to access AM/VO instance from a Java Service class

    Hi,
    I have a Java service class that is loaded by Java ServiceLoader (http://download.oracle.com/javase/6/docs/api/java/util/ServiceLoader.html) at run time, and I need to access database tables inside that service class. So is there any way that I can access AM/VO instances from that Java class in order to read database table? Thanks.
    Regards,
    K Hein

    You can access an application module with the the two methods below:
        YOURAppModule mAM;
        public void setUpAM()
            throws NamingException
            try
                String AMDefName = "YOUR_APP_DEF_NAME";
                Hashtable env = new Hashtable(2);
                env.put(JboContext.INITIAL_CONTEXT_FACTORY, JboContext.JBO_CONTEXT_FACTORY);
                env.put(JboContext.DEPLOY_PLATFORM, JboContext.PLATFORM_LOCAL);
                ApplicationModule am = null;
                InitialContext ic = new InitialContext(env);
                ApplicationModuleHome home = (ApplicationModuleHome) ic.lookup(AMDefName);
                am = home.create();
                // Connect the AM to a database connection
                String jndiDB = "jdbc/HRDS";
                am.getTransaction().connectToDataSource(null, jndiDB, false);
                boolean connected = am.getTransaction().isConnected();
                mAM = (YOURAppModule) am;
            catch (NamingException nex)
                // do some error processing
                throw nex;
            catch (Exception eee)
                // do some error processing
                throw eee;
        public void tearDownAM()
            if (mAM != null)
                if (mAM .getTransaction().isConnected())
                    mAM .getTransaction().disconnect();
                    mAM .remove();
        }You find the YOUR_APP_DEF_NAME in your application module under 'Configurations' -> AppModuleJndiName.
    Make sure you tear down each AM you set up. Otherwise you are running out of resources pretty fast.

  • Managing Multiple threads accessing  a single instance of a class

    Hi,
    i have to redesign a class, say X, in such a way that i manage multiple threads accessing a single instance of the class, we cannot create multiple instances of X. The class looks like this:
    Class X{
    boolean isACalled=false;
    boolean isInitCalled=false;
    boolean isBCalled=false;
    A(){
    isACalled=true;
    Init(){
    if(!isACalled)
    A();
    B();
    C();
    isInitCalled=true;
    B(){
    if(!isACalled)
    A();
    isBCalled=true;
    C(){
    if(!isACalled)
    A();
    if(!isBCalled)
    B();
    }//end of class
    Init is the method that would be invoked on the single instance of this class.
    Now i cannot keep the flags as instance variables coz different threads would have differrent status of these flags at the same time, hence i can make them local, but if i make them local to one method, the others won't be able to check their status, so the only solution i can think of is to place all the flags in a hashtable local to method INIT AND INITIALIZE ALL OF them to false, as init would call other methods, it would pass the hashtable reference as an additional parameter, the methods would set the flags in the hashtable and it would be reflectecd in the original hashtable, and so all the methods can have access to the hashtable of flags and can perform their respective checks and setting of flags.
    This all would be local to one thread, so there's no question of flags of one thread mixin with the flags of some other thread.
    My question is :
    Is this the best way, would this work?
    In java, everything is pass by value, but if i pass the hashtable reference, would the changes made inside the called method to the hashtable key-value would be visible in the original hashtable declared inside the calling method of which the hashtable is local variable?

    In Java object variables are passed "by copy of reference", and primitive variables "by value".
    The solution with HashMap/Hashtable you suggest is ok, but I think you should read about ThreadLocal class:

  • Referencing a instance inside a Class

    Hi --
    I am working on converting a movie clip to a Class so that I
    can more easily
    reuse it in later projects.
    I have pretty succesfully converted my AS code from my
    include file to a
    Class file. However, I have two objects on the stage, topBG
    and botBG and
    whenever I reference these items inside my code, such as
    botBG._y I get an
    error at compile time saying "There is no property with the
    name 'botBG'"
    How can I set it so these assets can be referred to inside my
    code?
    The code worked fine when it was just a movie.. Also, this is
    ActionScript
    2.0.
    Thanks
    Rich

    Hi --
    Thanks for responding. What I had created was this:
    I have a movie clip, "MainClip" with two movie clips ("ClipA"
    and "ClipB")
    inside that clip.
    I put MainClip on the stage (_root) and had Actionscript code
    in the main
    time line. I referenced ClipA & ClipB this way:
    MainClip.ClipA
    MainClip.ClipB
    Now, I want to turn MainClip into a class, "classMainClip".
    However, having
    moved the Actionscript into the class AS file and changed the
    above
    reference to just
    ClipA
    ClipB
    I get an error at compile time.
    How do I refer to the movie clips, "ClipA" and "ClipB" inside
    the
    actionscript that is the over lying class of which I want
    these clips to be
    a part?
    Hopefully I've explained this right.
    Thanks,

  • Instantiate an instance inside its class

    I always read codes like following:
    Class A {
    A a = new A( );
    Could anybody tell me why a class is able to instantiate its instance inside itself.
    Another example:
    Class A {
    B b = new B( );
    Class B{
    A a = new A( )
    When Class A is running, it calls Class B, but when Class B is instantiated
    , it needs to call Class A. I am always puzzled about this kind of codes.

    Everything in the world is an object - not only the building, but also the blueprint for this building is some kind of sheet of paper.
    In Java, the Class Objects are loaded as soon as you go into runtime. The VM recognizes all necessary classes, and creates one single instance of them. So, static attributes are indeed a singleton pattern on class level...
    A class even has an own constructor. This constructor looks like this:
    class ClassA{
          // Insert Class Constructor input here
    }All static attributes are implicitly constructed in this class constructor.
    However, what you have written, is just a simple Form of:
    class ClassA{
       ClassA a;
       public ClassA(){
         a = new ClassA();
    }This is indeed a neverending loop, so this doesn't make sense. But it isn't unusual to hold a reference to another object of the same type.

    Error Message : ClassCastExcption : jartest1 cannot be cast to ThingPresumably we can only hope that that is a transciption error. It always helps to use copy and past actual errors and code rather than manually typing them.
    test.jar contains jartest.class and Thing.classWrong.
    The interface class and plugable class must not be in the same jar.
    A plugable interface requires two components
    - Interface (generic sense)
    - Functional components.
    The Interface must be independant (own jar) so that it is available to the framework (user of plugin) and to the functional components. And the plugable component must not be on the java class path.
    This also means that we know for certain that the plugable component is also on the system class path. That is a bad idea as well.
    Given that it is pretty pointless to even speculate as to why this error is showing up. Create the correct jar layout. Test using the command line. Then test using servlets. Insure that the plugable jar is NOT on the java classpath for both tests.

  • Get class Instance, and then get hers attributes

    Hi Gurus,
    i'm new to ABAP Object,
    creating an a BSP whit MVC controller i've try to implement the class controller,
    but on a method of it i want to get instance of the class parents:
    the class that i implement is an extension of CL_BSP_CONTROLLER2.
    In this class in the method DO_REQUEST ( for example ) i try to get the instance of the class
    parent ( and i got it! ) using this syntax:
      data: Parent type ref to IF_BSP_DISPATCHER,   " type take from attribute M_PARENT of the class
    Parent = ME->M_PARENT.
    In debug i see that 'Parent'  get rightly the class parent instance but than i want do this:
    (i want get the sub controller of the main contoller 'parent', in debug i can see everything fine)
       SubController = Parent->GET_ATTRIBUTE(LEFT_CONTROLLER).
    But the compiler say that the class instance 'Parent' has no methods and no attribute.
    i've try other syntax like:
        call METHOD Parent_>GET_ATTRIBUTE
            IMPORTING
         LEFT_CONTROLLER)
      call METHOD ME->M_PARENT->GET_CONTROLLER
       EXPORTING
         CONTROLLER_ID = 'search'
       IMPORTING
         CONTROLLER_INSTANCE = Parent2
    No one work!
    How can i do?
    Here screnshot of that i see in debug mode, and that i want get:

    http://img10.imageshack.us/i/2debugscreen.jpg/
    Thanks in advance,

    Hi Pawan,
    classes ref to CL_BSP_CONTROLLER2 like my controller class, have an attribute
    M_PARENT type IF_BSP_DISPATCHER.
    If the class is a subclass of an main class it has the M_PARENT attribute containing the instance of the parent class,
    i can see in debug mode ( here example: http://img40.imageshack.us/img40/1648/3debugscreen.jpg )
    i can get this attribute:
      data: Parent type ref to IF_BSP_DISPATCHER,   " type take from attribute M_PARENT of the class
    Parent = ME->M_PARENT.
    but  the interface IF_BSP_DISPATCHER has no attribute and no method defined, and if i declare 'Parent' as type ref to
    CL_BSP_CONTROLLER2 the compiler return error
          <=>      "The type of "PARENT" cannot be converted to the type of "ME->M_PARENT". "

  • Class Instance access

    Is it possible to make an instance of a class available for
    reading / writing to on all documents in an application? If so, how
    is it done?
    I have an application written that asks a user to login. When
    the user enters their information (email / password), information
    including their name, email address, date of last login, etc. is
    pulled from my database and a class instance is populated on the
    current page (lower level page). I would like to reference
    different parts of this class instance on multiple documents. For
    example, I would like to display a label that has a text property
    of "Hello, Jack", where 'Jack' is a variable held in the class
    instance on another page at the same level as the current
    page.

    You need to have a look at the Singleton Pattern. Here is a

  • The difference between class, instances and object?

    I've been reading a JAVA book and i've come accross terms such as class, instances and object. What I don't understand is why after creating a class, we have to create an object and then create instances? What's an object and instance anyway? I don't really understand the term. Can anyone pls help and explain it to me in an easier way to understand?
    Thanks a lot.

    A Class defines what attributes (properties) and methods a particular item will have.
    Ex. You have a class person
    public class Person
    public void walk()
    String name;
    int age;
    }An instance and Object are the same. When you create an instance of a class, you get an object of that class.
    Person kevonline = new Person();You can then set kev's name, age, make him walk, etc... since these are defined in the class Person.

  • How can i access to a object inside an exported clip?

    Hello,
    I have exported a moviclip of my library to use it in as3. I
    know how to do that, and I can access to the new created class and
    can display it in the stage.
    ¿Do u know how could I access to a textfield inside this
    clip?
    For Example:
    I have a clip in my library with a shape and a text field
    called boxtext.
    I export it to the library with the class id "myclip". I
    linkage it.
    I create a class object in my as3 class and make an instance
    of this new clip with name InsMyClip.
    I attach the class to the stage:
    addChild(displayObject(InsMyClip))
    All ok.
    Then.
    How can I insert a text value in the boxtext field of the
    created class? It's a class and I think that is needed to make a
    method...
    Thanks a lot.
    Regards

    I don't know why this is not possible for SimpleButton. I think I have to use MovieClip and AS3 for this purpose.
    Anyway, thank you very much for your attentions.

  • Accessing impl class attribute

    Hi Experts,
    if i declare one variable in controller class of a view and how can access the variable in contex naode .

    Hi srinivas.yangal,
    You can access the View implementation Class Attributes in Context.
    1] Go to Context Node Implementation Class
    2] Create a attribute GV_VIEW_CONTROLLER in Impl class of Context Node.
    DATA : GV_VIEW_CONTROLLER TYPE REF TO CL_BSP_WD_VIEW_CONTROLLER .
    3] Go to INIT method of Context Node.
    4] Assign instance LV_VIEW_CONTROLLER to GV_VIEW_CONTROLLER of Context Node Impl. Class.
    GV_VIEW_CONTROLLER = LV_VIEW_CONTROLLER.
    Then you can access your Instance attributes defined in View Impl. class inside the context node through GV_VIEW_CONTROLLER attribute as follows.
    ABC = GV_VIEW_CONTROLLER->XYZ.
    Reward points if useful.
    Kind Regards,

  • Problem with Dynamically accessing EJB Class objects in WL 7.0 SP1

    I am trying to build a component which has the ability to instantiate and execute
    an known EJB method on the fly.
    I have managed to build the component but when I try and execute it I get a ClassNotFoundException.
    I know that the EJB I am trying to invoke is deployed and available on the server,
    as I can see it in the console, I also seen to have been able to get the remote
    interface of the object, my problem occurs when I try and access the class object
    so I can perform a create on the object and then execute my method
    The code I have written is below:
    private Object getRemoteObject(Context pCtx, String pJNDIName, String pHomeBean)
    throws Exception {
         String homeCreate = "create";
         Class []homeCreateParam = { };

    try {
    //This call seems to work and doesn't throw an exception
    Object home = pCtx.lookup(pJNDIName);
    //However this call throws a java.lang.ClassNotFoundException
    Class homeBean = Class.forName(pHomeBean);
    Method homeCreateMethod = homeBean.getMethod(homeCreate,homeCreateParam);
    return homeCreateMethod.invoke(home, homeCreateParamValues);
    } catch (NamingException ne) {
    logStandardErrorMessage("The client was unable to lookup the EJBHome.
    Please make sure ");
    logStandardErrorMessage("that you have deployed the ejb with the JNDI

    throw ne;
    } catch (Exception e) {
    logStandardErrorMessage(e.toString());
    throw e;

    Hello Joanne,
    Congratulations! I'm very happy that you've managed to fix your problem. It's
    always essential to understand how to package applications when deploying on BEA
    WebLogic. Usually, by throwing everything into an EAR file solves just about all
    the class loader problems. :-) Let us know if you have any further problems that
    we can assist you with.

    Thanks to everyone who gave me help!!!!
    The class loader was the culprit which is what I suspected all along.
    As soon
    as I put the 2 jar files I was using into an EAR file the problem went
    away!!!!!

    Hello Joanne,
    As Mr. Woollen mentioned, I also believe it's a problem with the class
    loader.
    You need to be careful how you arrange your EJBs, because WebLogic has
    a specific
    method in which it loads classes in an EAR, JAR, and WAR file(s). Please
    refer
    to http://dev2dev.bea.com/articles/musser.jsp for more information about
    BEA WebLogic
    class loading mechanisms and caveats. Also, try printing out the various
    methods
    that are available on the object that was returned to you via reflection.
    For
    example, use the getMethods() method, which returns an array of Method
    objects
    that you can subsequently cycle through and print out the various method
    names.
    This way you can discover if the class found/returned to you is indeed
    the one
    you intend to locate.
    Hope this helps,

    I suspect it will fail. Reflection still requires that the class be
    loadable.

    Hi Slava,
    If I make my code look like you describe below I get a compliationerror telling
    me that
    home.getMethod() is not recognised (no such method)
    If I change it slightly and use
    Method homeCreateMethod =
    home.getClass().getMethod(homeCreate,homeCreateParam);
    The code will compile OK but when executed it still throws a NoSuchMethodException
    Any ideas ?
    Thanks for your help so far

    Your code should look like
    Object home = pCtx.lookup(pJNDIName);
    Method homeCreateMethod =
    home.getMethod(homeCreate,homeCreateParam);
    return homeCreateMethod.invoke(home, homeCreateParamValues);

    Hi Ryan,
    I also wanted to mention that if you do a "header search" in this
    particular
    newsgroup
    with the search query as "reflection", you will see many previousmessages
    regarding
    reflection and EJBs. I believe you could learn a lot from thedifficulties
    that
    others have faced and solved.I tried that and although there was a number of similar cases noneof them
    actually
    seem to fix my issue. Thanks for the suggestion though
    Are the EJBs that you are trying to access accessible via your
    system
    classpath?
    Try to avoid having them accessible via the main system classpath,and
    only bundle
    them in your appropriate EJB jar files (contained in an EAR file,for
    example).Maybe I should have laid the problem out a little clearer.
    I have a number of EJB's bundled up in a JAR file which is hot deployedto
    the
    server. Within this first JAR file is an EJB (SSB) component that
    needs
    to
    be
    able to invoke a known method on another EJB. This second EJB may
    or
    may
    not be
    within the first JAR file but it also will be hot deployed.
    The component trying to invoke the method on the 2nd EJB has to
    be
    able to
    create
    an instance of the 2nd EJB without actually knowing anything bar
    a
    JNDI
    Name which
    is passed in at runtime.
    I can get as far as doing the
    Object home = pCtx.lookup(pJNDIName);
    This returned a class with the name
    "com.csc.edc.projects.allders.httppostoffice.postman.PostmanBean_mp8qy2_Home
    Impl_WLStub"
    My problem seems to occur when I try and invoke the create method
    Method homeCreate = home.getClass().getMethod("create", new Class[0]);
    My code throws a java.lang.NoSuchMethodException at this point so
    I
    am
    unable
    to progress to the next step of :
    Object bean = homeCreate.invoke(home, null);
    So I can return the instantiated bean back to the calling client.
    Why am I getting the NoSuchMethodException, is is because I am gettinga
    stub
    back rather than the home interface and if so how do I get the truehome
    interface
    from the bean
    Thanks in advance

  • Is there a way to access ABAP OO instances from a batch job report

    Hello,
    I am looking for a way to access ABAP OO instances from a batch job report. My circumstances are the following:
    I have got some ABAP OO coding that identifies other objects (class instances) that have to be processed (they have a DoIt method that does some calculation). As this processing is time consuming and performace relevant I have to parallelize this in batch jobs. This batch jobs however can only be "simple" ABAP reports according to SM36. The problem is now that I dont really know how to tell the batch job report what objects to process. Somehow I have to access theses instances from  that batch job report.
    Does anybody have an idea?
    Greetings
    Matthias

    Hi David,
    thanks a lot for your help. After a lot of searching on the net this seems to be the only way to cope with it. However I am not sure about the locking mechanisms and if its suitable for mass data processing. In the help page you suggested the following is stated which I do not fully understand::
    "The current lock logic does not enable you to set specific locks for the following requirements:
    ·        Many parallel read and write accesses
    ·        Frequent write accesses
    ·        Division into changeable and non-changeable areas
    Although the lock logic makes the first two points technically possible, they are not practical because most accesses would be rejected."
    Does this mean
    a) if I dont want to set "specific locks" for frequent write accessess I am fine
    or
    b) I am discouraged from use shared memory technics for frequent write accessess?
    In the latter case I will have a problem...
    What do you think?
