Access violation Remote Registry

Discovered yesterday that if RRS has been used to access performance counters that it encounters an access violation when the service is restarted. This causes the hosting process to go away taking with it all the other services hosted in that process. The
work around is to put remote registry in its own process. The AV still occurs of course but no other services are affected. I have a dump. Windows 2012 R2 fully patched. If I attach windbg to the process hosting the service and then do a net stop remote registry
this is what happens.

  • Adobe Reader 10.1.7 crashing with memory access violation

After upgrading to 10.1.7 on some Windows Server 2003 SP2 (32-bit) terminal servers, we get Adobe Reader X unable to open any PDF. It launches for a brief second and then closes, apparently with exit code -1073741819 which I was able to get from running Sysinternal Process Monitor, since the Reader application and Windows give no indication or popup error about why the program crashed. I understand this exit code translates to 0xC0000005 "access violation". To make things more interesting, it seems to ONLY occur when accessing the servers via RDP, and may have somethig to do with the configured screen resolution or color depth for that RDP session. In some cases we are able to get Adobe to open for the same user opening the same PDF file without crashing by temporarily changing the RDP settings to a lower resolution, or a color depth other than 256 colors. I tried to disable protected mode at startup via local Group Policy in the registry, but that did not seem to help. We are running McAfee VirusScan Enterprise as well, though I have no indication that is a factor at this point. Any clues on what might be going on here or how to zero in closer on the problem?

  • Web Access for Remote Desktop on Windows Server 2012

    Hello,
i've a Windows Server 2012 without a domain. So i installed the remote desktop session host, the remote desktop license server and the remote desktop gateway as a server role only. All is working fine. Without a domain, no management tools for remote
desktop are available. So i configure the remote desktop via the registry. I define (via registry) some remoteapps, too. All values are copied from a running Windows Server 2008 R2. So the remoteapps are runing.
Now i want to use the new Microsoft Remote Desktop client for Android. To use a remoteapp i must define a remote resource. To define a remote resource i need a url to the web access for remote desktop. So i installed the web access. But if i login to the
web access, i don't see any remoteapp. What's wrong? I've set the ShowInTSWA to 1. What must i do to access an existing remoteapp via web access?
    Martin

    Hi Martin,
Server 2012 RD Web Access is designed to retrieve published RemoteApps and Desktops from a Server 2012 RD Connection Broker and/or a Server 2008 R2 RD Session Host server.  From your description it doesn't appear that you are using either of the above.
I know it is a more complicated set up, but you should consider having a domain, creating a RDS deployment, etc., so that you can use the full featureset as it was intended.  You can do it all on a single server if needed.  For Server 2012
there is a hotfix that needs to be applied to permit RD Connection Broker to work on the same server instance as active directory.

  • Access violation using snapshot for Firefox 1.0

I'm trying to snapshot Firefox but I get an error: "Access violation at
address 1000B64B. Read of address 00000000"
I've snapshotted Firefox before (older versions) without any trouble but
I've tried 1.0 on different machines and as different users without any
success. Any idea as to why this is happening or possible workarounds? It's
    only happening with Firefox 1.0.
Environment details: Windows 2000SP4, Novell client 4.9SP1a, ZfD 3.2,
    NetWare 5.1
    Thanks in advance.
    Michael

    See - http://support.novell.com/cgi-bin/se...?/10095571.htm
Try deleting the values before doing the snapshot.
Readding them via a REG file may be possible.

  • Access violation in JDev 3.2.3

In JDev 3.2.3, I get "Access violation ad address 00000000. Read of address 00000000.".
I had done a "Browse symbol at cursor" on JRadioButton. Then clicked on JavaDoc viewer. then in the list ofinheritance hierarchy, I clicked on "javax.swing.JToggleButton" and I get a dialog box with the above error.

    The ODBC parameters should be:
    Data source name : cmfLogin: Username : lmsdatafeed Password : Server Name : cmfEngTCP/IP : HOST=Hostname;DOBROADCAST=NO;ServerPort=43441
You shouldn't specify a database or database path.  Make sure you've copied all of the necessary files from the LMS server to your remote host, and make sure TCP port 43441 is open between your client and the LMS server.  Verify by trying to telnet to the server on the port 43441.  See http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/net_mgmt/ciscoworks_lan_management_solution/3.2/database_schema/guide/dbviews.html#wp103753 for more on the remote access ODBC prerequisites.  You should be able to access the two views Network_Devices and Job_Details using these connection parameters.  See the document above for the other DB connection parameters to access the remainder of the views.

  • Access violation in JDev 3.2.2

    Access violation at address 005c9e5b
    in module jdeveloper.exe.
    read of address 00000210.
I clicked in the navigator to open a file,
clicked in the file's window, did File/Print
Clicked on OKAY. Waited a moment, then clicked "x" to close the source window.
Then I get the error dialog.
In reproducing the error, looks like I did not wait long enough before closing the window and I'm quessing it was still sending the file to the printer.
As the cursor does not change to a wait cursor, I didn't have the visual clue that it was still sending the file to the printer.

  • 0xc0000005 access violation running app from mapped drive but no problem from UNC or local

I have an application (.exe - 32 bit) that is giving the access violation error when run from a mapped (net use) drive on a shared folder.   NO error if I run it using the FULL UNC path name and NO error if I copy it to my local drive and run it.
The error is below.   I have run scans for virus and malware, etc. and come up with nothing.  I have run diagnostics on my memory and nothing is wrong with the hardware.  Also, if I create a new user profile, the app will run fine under
that profile - initially.   The problem seems to come up after I install something new.  I know the new software is not infected (VS 2013) and the software installed before the new profile test was not the same software.
I didn't give all the info below because it's legacy software few would know about and I do NOT have the source code.   It is 32 bit and has worked fine for 15 years or more - without this problem.    Thanks in advance for any help
    you can provide.

    Hi Johnny,
We wonder if you get this error on all PCs or only on your Windows 7 PCs.
If your application happens to hit a page of memory that is not present, a standard page fault will trigger, telling Windows it needs to fill that page. If the network happens to be down at that moment, Windows will be unable to satisfy the page-fault. So
Windows throws an EXCEPTION_IN_PAGE_ERROR (0xC0000005). Since you mentioned that it works under new user profile initially and already tested your memory, the most typical causes for the ‘0xC0000005: Access Violation’ error are: corrupt registry, malware,

  • Loading 32 bit remote registry in Windows 2008/ 2008 R2

Would anyone know how to force remote registry to run as 32bit in 2008/R2?
This is something you could do in a rare case where you needed to access only 32 bit performance counters remotely in 2003, but in the newer OS versions the work around isn't working because the required regsvc.dll is no longer present in the SYSWOW64 directory.
I understand this is probably an odd request, but I am really coming up blank on all fronts. I'm just looking for whether it's even going to be possible anymore.

    Hi Jason,
Please have a look at this article:
    Reading 32-bit counters on a 64-bit machine

  • Remote registry: OpenRemoteBaseKey not working

    Hi
I'm trying to read a remote registry key. I have the Remote Registry service running on on the target machine, and I can read the key using `reg query`. In all honesty, this is good enough for my purposes.
    PS C:\> reg query "\\remote-machine\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer" /v VersionHKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer    Version    REG_SZ    9.11.9600.17420
However, I'm curious to know why I can't do this with Powershell and OpenRemoteBaseKey. I've tried the following steps
    from here:
    PS C:\> $remote = "remote-machine"PS C:\> $type = [Microsoft.Win32.RegistryHive]::LocalMachine
    PS C:\> $reg = [Microsoft.Win32.RegistryKey]::OpenRemoteBaseKey($type, $remote )
    PS C:\> $regpath = "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer"
    PS C:\> $productkey = $reg.OpenSubKey($regpath)
    PS C:\> $productkey.getvalue("Version")
You cannot call a method on a null-valued expression.
    At line:1 char:1
    + $productkey.getvalue("Version")
    + ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    + CategoryInfo : InvalidOperation: (:) [], RuntimeException
    + FullyQualifiedErrorId : InvokeMethodOnNull
Inspecting the values produced, $productkey is null, and $reg appears to be empty:
    PS C:\> $reg
    Name Property
    PS C:\> $reg.GetType()
    IsPublic IsSerial Name BaseType
    True False RegistryKey System.MarshalByRefObject
    PS C:\>
So, why would `reg query` work, while `OpenRemoteBaseKey()` does not? I can use `reg query` well enough in my scripts, but I'd prefer something a little more Powershell-y.
    Cheers

When you update IE, it does not necessarily update the 'Version' value in the registry.
    -- Bill Stewart [Bill_Stewart]
Okay. Are you referring to what is stated in the following paragraph from the same page you linked before?
Internet Explorer 3.x does not add the version value to the registry. Instead, it adds a "build" value to the same registry key and updates the "IVer" string value to "103." For backward compatibility, Internet Explorer 4.0 and later versions change or add the build value. For Internet Explorer 3.x, the build value is a string that contains the four-character build number. (For example, "1300" is the build value for Internet Explorer 3.02). For Internet Explorer 4.0 and later versions, the build value is a string that contains a five-character value, followed by a period and four more characters, in the following format:
If so, I think it does not apply after IE4. In which case, as all the machines on my domain are Windows 7 or Server 2008 installs, I don't think it's likely that they have such an old version installed.

Close ... before going for a specific Cisco app ... lets find out some details:
    Host we need more details:
What is your server environment (Windows Server, or Mac OS X Server, or Linux)?
What security is implemented in your environment - as what is restricted (RDP for all or specifc credentials on all machines? Are you part of local admin group to the server you wish to connect)?
Does your environment Support CISCO IPSec connection? If so use Settings> VPN and IPSec tab to enter VPN details, if not then go with above suggestion. IF your restricted to RSA then either built in VPN settings or 3rd party app for RSA would suffice.
Finally, there are many RDP applications out there I use "Mocha RDP Light" (free minimal ads when launched not when connecting).

  • Can multiple PCs access one remote panel at the same time?

I've written a program in labview 7.1 to monitor/control a labview application running in the test cell through Remote Panel. I and my coworker can remotely monitor and/or control this labview application individually. But if my coworker has the remote panel displayed on his PC and I try to get the remote panel on my PC, I get a labview error (63) as below:
"LabVIEW:  Serial port receive buffer overflow.
LabVIEW:  The network connection was refused by the server."
My question is: Can multiple PCs access one remote panel at the same time?
    Thanks in advance!
    Y

Sorry I wasn't clear. The remote panel license is separate from the number of LabVIEW development licenses. Pricing information on remote panel licenses can be found here.

  • How can I repair "an access violation has occurred"

I found this message after you install the update of an audio software (Pro Tools 8.0.5) and after trying to listen to an audio recording "an access violation has occurred." In a later appeared to me the message "/ System / Library / Extensions / CDSDAAudioCaptureSupport.Kext". I removed the software completely reinstalled all audio and I havethe previous version but to no avail. I also reinstalled operating system from OS 10.6.2 Leopard up to 10.6.8 but still nothing. The message reappears when I use the audio software is not allowing me to listen to the audio (only with ProTools, while iTunes feature regularly. I do not know what to do yet.

Most absurd response to a question I have ever read...
DRM protects composers life myself from theft. I just hate it when people steal my stuff. Don't you?
I've  been a PT professional user for well over a decade. My computer is in no way "crippled". I can do what I want with it and what I want with that software. I run PT with iTunes open all day long with no issue. I can import audio from my iTunes library into PT with no issue. If the audio you are trying to import is protected (from being stolen and remixed etc.) than no, you can't import it into PT. I'm pretty sure that most law abiding citizens would agree that having thier own personal livelyhood protected under law would be a good thing. But for some reason, this society thinks that musicians and other creative professionals don't deserve the same level of protection and don't need to feed thier families...

    Hello,
We are having an issue running Diadem 8.1 on a new HP XW 9400 with Windows XP SP2. 3 errors have been occuring with frequent crashes, they are:
    1) "1Exception EAccessViolation in module ntdll.dll at 000111DE. Access violation at address 7C9111DE in module 'ntdll.dll". Read address 37363430.

We are using the same scripts and version 8.1 on a variety of Dell desktop computers (W2K and XP SP2) without any issue, looking for suggestions as this affects no other software on the HP XW 9400 other than DIAdem. Appreciate any suggestions.

    Christian,
I will answer your questions in the text below. Thanks for your help.
    Hi swillh,
I also would like to help you.
Unfortunately, The reported access violation in the central Windows ntdll.dll is very unspecific.
May be the following questions will help you to provide me more info.
    1. You mentioned that the aut's and - I think - also the accessed text file reside on a server.
Is there a stable network connection?
The server can sometimes be a little slow but the connection is good. This computer is using the same connection that the prior computer utilized without issue.
Are the files accessed by multiple clients simultaneously?
It is possible that more than one computer can be accessing the same file, but again, this has never been an issue. We are reading the files only, not writing to them.
The processing routines we are running have used for over 5 years without any issues until adding this computer.
Is the text file read by one client while another client is writing the same file?
    No, files are "read only"
    2. Have you already tested opening the file with the FileOpen command before calling FR?
    Yes
Do you see any chance to convert the aut to a vbs file? This gives you more alternatives in accessing text files.
    3. What do you mean with "processing ATD's with 30 or more channels of data"? Where is the relation between ATD files and data channels?
Processing Crash Dummy data with file sets low in channel count (15 channels) result in successful processing without any crashes or access errors.  When processing dummies with more than 20 channels we sometimes encounter these issues. The higher channel count may be the only common factor I can find in these faults.
