What permission required to Browse Cube in Analysis Services.
Hi
I have a request where user want to browse cubes in SSMS for analysis services. I dont want to give him (Full control administrator) . when i tried other permission read / process data then he is not able to browse cube.
Even if give him full control role then while rebuilding cube these permissions will removed.
How can i give user access to just view cube , there meta data , objects in ssms
Thanks Saurabh Sinha

Hi Saurabh,
According to your description, you are trying to grant browser permission to the users without success, right?
Roles are used in Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Services to manage security for Analysis Services objects and data. Cube access by a non-administrator requires membership in a role created for the database containing the cube. Membership is supported
for Windows user or group accounts, defined in either Active Directory or on the local computer.
So in your scenario, please ensure that the grant permission steps are correct, you can refer to the links below to do it.

Account Dimension not showing all members in the cube in Analysis Services
Hi,
In SAP - BPC 5.1 after processing account dimension all the members are created under account dimension in analysis services but the same cannot be found in the data cube. Hence the reports generated through SAP - BPC is not showing all the members.
The issue looks very strange as we can see the members getting created but the same is not getting populated in the cubes. I am not able to visualize what exacly the issue is? Is it with the application or with the analysis services?
Thanks
SharathYour sixth sense is correct, there is definitely support in MSAS and BPC 5.1 for multiple hierarchies in the account dimension.
I'm also referring to parentH1 and parentH2, but perhaps we're still speaking of different things.
In the past, I faced a very similar problem as you, and the root cause was because I had one member, let's call it FancyParent, which, in H1, had children Child1 and Child2.
But in H2 it had children Child1, Child2 and Child3. I forget now if that was how I wanted the setup to be, or if it was a mistake on my part, but either way, MSAS doesn't allow this. The admin consol didn't complain when processing the dimension -- this was in Outlooksoft 5.0; perhaps validation has improved now.
But the cube was completely unworkable. Certain things were calculating correctly, but everything in the account dimension in the area around FancyParent (above and below it, in both hierarchies) was quite unpredictable.
By disabling first one, and then the other, of the two hierarchies, and disabling blocks of accounts, I was eventually able to pinpoint the problem. But it took days to figure out what was the problem. (The account dimension had 2500 members and 4 hierarchies, and it was not a pretty sight.)
A parent must have the same definition of children in all hierarchies. It can't, as another example, have children in H1, and be a base member in H2. Each member can have different parents in the two hierarchies, but must always have the same children in both.
To work around this problem, I had to create two separate accounts NetIncomeH1 and NetIncomeH2 (and PretaxIncomeH1, PretaxIncomH2, etc. all the way down to the point where they branched off), to get the two separate aggregations of the P&L in the two hierarchies. Once I did that, it made sense to me why, but I also swore off on frivolous extra hierarchies ever again. -
What to configure in MS SQL 2008 Analysis Services
Hello
I have several cubes in MS Analysis Services 2008 that are available for users in Excel. I am trying to configure a universe in IDT (Edge 4.1 ) but cannot add it in IDT when i create a new olap connection (XMLA). I add the parameters (authentication , server , user name , password, language ,) but it appears blank in the cube selection. I followed the instructions in Information design tool 4.0: Create a connection to an OLAP data source
How should i configure Analysis services to be able to connect to it from th IDT ?

HectorPurchase SQL Server 2014 (or 2012) Developer Edition for around $50 (2008 may no longer be available). Install it. Also install AdventureWorks2012 sample database.
SQL Server Management Studio is part of the client tools installation. SSMS is your learning and later working environment.
SSMS Object Explorer provides you access to all of the database objects.

What permission required on IIS7 inetpub folder for SharePoint 2007 setup?
Hi, I want to add one more WFE on current SharePoint 2007 farm and keep IIS7 Inetpub folder on D drive as other exist WFE having inetpub on D drive.
So please let me know which IDs and what permissions need to keep on InetPub folder to create necessary folders inside.AB
Please share ULS log for more detail.
As for now you can check with user control appearing randomly in error if any of these contains " ,
" code in page directive or reference directives and replace them with comma ",". Fab 40 controls do not work straight away in SharePoint 2013. you need to have install then one by one after copying them over to
new environment. User PowerShell command to Install them. Please share log detail -
Hi All,
Can you please suggest me what permission require to create new case from service module. Steps is below i followed to create case and assigned to user.
1- Created new blank role.
2- Went in service module.
3- Given the Create, Read, Write, Append & Append To permission to CASE entity on organization Level.
4- Assigned this role to user.
After assigning this role login into crm online and trying to create case. Its giving message "Insufficient Permission".
Kindly suggest me the steps i am missing here. Want to assigned single custom created role.

Imapact of SQL Server Analysis services
Hi
What will be the impact of installing analysis services on an existing SQL Server database which is shared among different web applications Project Server 2013 (PWA) and other SharePoint Applications? In my
environment SQL Server database is shared between PWA and another sharepoint web applicaiton, so before installing I want to understand its impact on database and the other SharePoint Web application.
Please help
Himanshu
HimanshuI may impact your Server and SQL Server performance significantly.
This is a common architecture in which both the SQL Server relational DB Engine and Analysis Services instances are running on the same server. In this scenario, it is absolutely crucial to override the defaults for both instances in order to prevent resource
contention, memory pressure, and (in the worst case) memory exception errors.
Consider
SQL Server memory configuration after installing Analysis services, which includes
Minimum Server Memory
Maximum Server Memory
Minimum Memory per query (only for advance users)
At the same time you have to set the
memory configuration for SSAS engine also you have to consider
LowMemoryLimit
TotalMemoryLimit
HardMemoryLimit
Remember, other than SQL Server and Analysis service other application in your server will be consuming memory. And the most important part is to leave memory for OS to run properly.
So, General formula to set Hard limit of SSAS could be (but not limited to)
Hard Memory Limit = Total Physical Memory - SQL Server Instance min - OS memory (include other application too)
Disclaimer: Above formula is just for demonstration purpose only; should not be applied
on production without complete analysis.
Worth to notice that SSAS does create its own database for cube so other than memory you need to plan about disk space (if you have limited space) -
Permanently change default error configuration in Analysis Services 2005
Hi,
Currently, I am working on a BPC 5.1 application. The data for this application is loaded(inserted via SQL statement) right to the FACT table and then a full process is run for that cube via an SSIS package using the Analysis Services Processing Task. Often records are loaded this way where a dimension member for some of the records has not been added to the Account dimension yet. These records after loading are considered 'orphan records' until the accounts are added to the account dimension.
This loading process is used because of the volume of records loaded(over 2 million at a time) and the timing of the company's business process. They will receive data sometimes weeks before the account dimension is updated in BPC with the new dimension members.
If I try and process the application from the BPC Administration area with these orphan records in the FACT table, the processing stops and an error displays. Then when I process the cube from Analysis services, an error is displayed telling me that orphan data was found.
A temporary work-around is to go into the cube properties in Analysis Services 2005, click on Error Configuration, uncheck 'Use default error configuration' and select 'Ignore errors'. Then you can process the application from BPC's Administration page successfully. But, the problem is that after processing the application successfully, the Analysis Services Error Configuration automatically switches back from 'Ignore errors' to 'Use default error configuration'.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to permanently keep the 'Ignore errors' configuration selected so it does not automatically switch back to 'Use default error configuration'? Prior to BPC 5.0 this was not occurring.
Also, does anyone know why this was changed in BPC 5.0/5.1?
Thanks,
GlennHi Glenn,
I understood the problem but I can say that it was a bad migration of appset from 4.2 to 5.0.
Any way they are using a dts package to import data into our fact table. That's means they have to add another step into that package where they have to do the verfications of records before to insert into fact table. Verfications can be done using the same mechanism from our standard import. Just edit that package and add similar steps into customer package.
Attention you need somebody with experience developing DTS packages with for BPC to avoid other problems.
One of big benefits from 5.X compare with 4.2 was the fact that we are able to use optimization schema and aggregations for cubes.
Heaving that orphan records it is not possible to use optimization schema for cubes and you are not able to create good aggregation into your cube.
So my idea is to provide all these information to customer and to try to modify that package instead to enable that option which can cause many other issues.

MSSQL2005 Analysis Service Distinct Count
hi,
i am currently trying to build a distinct count on my cube (mssql2005 analysis services).
But after i added the discount count on the field i want to and start the processing, the following errors appear.
- Errors in the OLAP storage engine: The sort order specified for distinct count records is incorrect.
- Errors in the OLAP storage engine: An error occurred while processing the 'FACT VIEW STATISTIC' partition of the 'FACT VIEW STATISTIC 1' measure group for the 'Accident Statistic' cube from the OLAP_PROJECT database.
the count measure works fine.
will appreciate any help on this distinct count problem.
thanks in advance.
HYI also received this error:
"Errors in the OLAP storage engine: The sort order specified for distinct count records is incorrect. "
Running SQL Server 2005 SP2 Enterprise Edition
The collation between SQL Server and Analysis Services was the same.
The distinct count was on a character data type.
There were no NULLs in the data.
The cube was processing fine until new data was added.
After some investigation into the data it seems that the culprit was one row that the data length was 13 characters on the column of the distinct count. Everything else was less than 13 characters. (See results below). Updating this one row solved the problem. The exact value of the data is: '1-4296-175-9'
Here is a result set:
select len(columnname) as data_length, count(*) as count
from [tablename]
group by len(columnname)
order by data_length
data_length count
2 3
5 1
6 3
7 2
9 1
10 856
13 1
My question though is if SQL2005 can do distinct counts on strings then why choke on one row with an extra length? -

Hi,
If you are trying to create a new OLAP Intelligence Report using SQL 05 I am afraid you are out of luck.
You will need to get a copy of the Productivity Pack (Available for Download in Subscribenet) .
Also, in your SQL Server Sufrace Configuraiton manager try setting Analysis Services to Allow Ananomous connections. This will make sure you get a little further initially. (Dont leave Anonymous on) -

What is the minimum permission required to discover the Farms in the Sahrepoint Server?
What is the minimum permission required to discover the Farms in the SahrePoint Server?
Do I need to have the access to the SharePoint Database?
I want to do this with help of a 3rd Party API.
Thanks
psarrojAccess to SharePoint doesn't necessarily give access to the SharePoint databases. See Add-SPShellAdmin description.
https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff607596.aspx
Permissions on the databases themselves is often required when accessing SharePoint information programmatically.

I create a Captivate from and upload it to our LMS. When employees access the course it takes a long time for it to load. My IT department is asking what is the minimum browser requirements for Captivate 5? Specifically Flash and Java. This is occuring on PC's and a Citrix environment.
Hi there,
Thanks for reaching Adobe Community. Please accept my apologies for the same.
There is nothing in specific. When you say it takes a long time, do you mean on the LMS or locally as well?
Try updaing the Flash Player.
You can download the Falsh Player Versions from the below link:
http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html
Which browser you are using?
Also what objects you have in your project?
Does it have widgets or heavier graphics?
Also are you using any particular preloader? Have you tried using the default.swf preloader?
Thanks! -
What permission is required to an account specified as an execution account
We are currently using SSRS 2012 configured in SharePoint 2013 integrated mode. We have set the report's data sources to not require any credentials as we have supplied the username and password in the connection string. This set-up was done to avoid report
builder from prompting user to enter credentials as we don't provide the password to our users. We are using Oracle as the data store which the report data source connects to.
For this set-up to work, we need to supply an execution account. We have supplied an execution account with administrator privileges, however we were asked to provide the minimum privilege required. What privilege is required for the unattended execution
account? Does it require the privilege "Logon as a service" or "Logon as a batch job" for the reports to properly run? What is the execution account used for, are the reports running under the execution account or the current user? Your
help is much appreciated! What execution account are you talking about? For SharePoint integration? If so, this article should answer your question...
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb326213%28v=sql.105%29.aspx
If its the unattended execution account in SSRS... this should answer your questions.

Otherwise... please provide more details in what you attempting to accomplish. -
Problem with a calculated member browsing cube with a specific user role
Good evening to all of you .
I am not a newbie about SSAS nor an expert developer.
I use SSAS 2008 R2 Standard Edition.
I try to simplify my problem with a calculated measure.
I have a CUBE with :
[Measures].[Sales Amount]
Dimension STORES - Dimension CUSTOMERS - Dimension DATE
I have also 2 user roles :
Direction Role can see all members of all dimensions.
Customize Role has a restriction about Dimension STORES ..it can see only a STORE of all (Suppose to have 100 stores).
User that has a Customize Role, when browse cube in Excel , want to see for a specific CUSTOMER , Sales Amount of his own STORE but also the total Sales Amount of ALL STORES for that Customer...
Is it possibile to do that ???
Can you give any suggestion also using Adventure Works Cube ???
I was able to create a calculated measure like that below.
It does not work...It give the same result of Sales Amount
It seems that Customize Role win Always about every kind of calculate measure i need to create..
i.e SUM([STORES].[STORES].[ALL STORES],[Measures].[Sales Amount])
Thanks in advance.Hi maretix,
According to your description, you have a customize role which limit the user can only see data about his own STORE. Now this user wants to see the total Sales Amount for his own STORES only. Right?
In Analysis Services, when granting custom access to dimension data, it has a option "Enable Visual Total" in Advanced dimension security. By default, the
VisualTotals property is disabled (set to False). This default setting maximizes performance because Analysis Services can quickly calculate the total of all cell values, instead of having to spend time selecting which
cells values to calculate. So you always get same result which is the total for all STORES.
In this scenario, please select this option. When you enable the VisualTotals property, your custom role can only view aggregated totals for dimension members to which the role has permission.

If you have any question, please feel free to ask.
