Accessing Resources on another Server

Hi There,
I'm developing a project for a client where they have stated
the audio, images, video, and flash content will be stored on a
different server (with a different url) than where the Captivate
content package will be stored.
So the SWF file and all the LMS goodness is stored on local
PC A
All the audio, images, video, and flash is stored on Server B
I'm having trouble trying to figure out how I can put any of
the content from Server B into my Captivate file on local PC A. I
tried typing the URL to an image file when adding an image object
on a slide. It appears to download the file to the local PC's cache
then insert it on the slide. This is a problem, because what if the
image on Server B is updated? If I try to update the image in the
library, it will look at local PC A's cache, and not Server B.
I realize I could create a Flash file and insert into
Captivate to load the content from Server B, but the size of the
project (350 slides, broken into server files) makes me hopeful I
can link to content on Server B instead?
Anyone know a method to accomplish this?
Thanks,
Scottie

If I understand you correctly Scottie, what your client is
asking cannot be done. Dynamic updating of SWF content (objects)
isn't possible. The horror of custom development is that the client
can be as outrageous as he wishes, and unless the developer heads
it off in the "talking and planning" stage, the project is doomed
to failure before it begins.
Having said that, I'll back out of here to see if someone can
prove me wrong. If so, I am as interested as you are in how it
might be accomplished. Have a good day!

    They do not have access by default unless if you delegate that to them. For high secure environments, you might consider implementing a Selective Authentication: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc755844(v=ws.10).aspx

  • Problems with FMS accessing files on another server

    Hi Guys
    Im currently working on a small project with streaming video on demand and using FMS 4.0 (and a complete noob in FMS).
    The video’s is located on another server than the FMS. But I have mapped the server to a drive on my FMS server,
    \\192.168.1.10\data\media\mov\ => R:
    And in the fms.ini file change vod_dir = R:\
    The FMS service is logging on as Administrator, but I still can’t play the videos.
    If I change vod_dir to a local folder ( c:\data\media\mov\ ) on my FMS server it play the movie fine, any idea why this doesn’t work?
    FYI: I'm using rtmp and both servers is running win2008 R2
    Any input is greatly appreciated

    Hi Nikhil
    I ran the test on my two laptops (xp and win 7, instead of the win 2008 servers ), with lesser restrictions.
    When I used the UNC path in the fms.ini it worked fine, but not when I used the mapped drive.
    This proves it s security setting on my servers, that’s coursing the problem.
    Thank you for your help and fast replies J

  • Connecting to Access Database on another server

    I'm trying to connect to an ODBC remotely from my local computer. I know the IP address of the machine and how to set up the DSN, but I don't know the port that the ODBC listens too! I've looked all over the web but I can't figure out how to figure this out. Can someone help me?
    Also, as a sidebar, is it possible to open up this connection through an applet if the ODBC and the web server are on the same computer? That would be really helpful.

  • Accessing resources in another swf

    I am developing a web site in Flash. It consists of a number
    of swf "pages". I find that I am using the same font regularly and
    am having to embed it into each page.
    Is it possible to embed it into only one "base" page and then
    use the font in other pages which are loaded into it ?
    If so, how do I go about achieving this ?
    Hope someone will be able and willing to help me with this.
    Simon

    I have started investigating the use of Font symbols.
    What I find is that, if I do not create a textfield on the
    stage at design time, any textfields created at runtime will not be
    able to use the font symbol.
    I am using Flash 8.
    Does anyone know if it is possible to get round this - that
    is, only use the font in textfields created at runtime?

  • Problem in accessing the media files from another server

    Currently I am working in a project with streaming video on demand and using FMS 4.5.
    Let’s say the FMS is installed on one machine say ‘121.123.35.34’ and there is another server ‘100.54.88.222’ where all the media files belong. Now we need to point to this third server to play videos from FMS.I have done the below changes:
    In the fms.ini file: set the VOD_DIR2 = \\100.54.88.222\myvideos
    In the application.xml: Added the stream: <Streams>/hr;${VOD_DIR2}</Streams>
    From my application accessing the path of flv as:source= “rtmp:// 121.123.35.34:1935/vod/hr/test” . Not able to access the video.
    Note: If I will point to say ‘C:hrvideos’ in VOD_DIR2, then I am able to access the videos using the same URL.
    I also tried mapping the shared path to the FMS machine and then given the mapped drive path in the VOD_DIR2, but this also doesn’t work.
    Please let me know:
    If we need to configure any other parameter to stream videos from another server.
    VOD_COMMON_DIR: I modified this similar TO VOD_DIR to location 'C:hrvideos', I am able to stream the videos using rtmp, but not abl eto stream with http.
              Please let me know  can we stream using http also as we need this to run f4m manifest file.
              http://121.123.35.34:8134/vod/hr/sample.mp4.
              http://121.123.35.34:8134/vod/hr/sample.f4m
    Thanks,
    Anjali

    Hi Shiven,
    I followed the steps suggested by you:
    1) Changed the stream:
    <Streams>/hr;${VOD_DIR2}</Streams> to<Streams>/;${VOD_DIR2}</Streams>
    But not able to access the video with rtmp:// 121.123.35.34:1935/vod/test
    2) For http streaming, changes the HttpStreamingContentPath in hds-vod in the httpd config file, and tried to stream the video like:
    http:// 121.123.35.34:8134/vod/test.mp4 or
    http:// 121.123.35.34:8134/hds-vod/test.mp4
    But not able to load the video.
    Please suggest?

    I put my problems down to my application server (Orion) as other people seem to have this working. The deployment in Orion keeps the original timestamps of the jars, so I explicitly set the timestamps in my build so that the unchanged jars do not have to be downloaded all the time. This is not really a good solution, so maybe someone else can give further advice.

    Thanks for including all your code. I've ran into version download problems before also. In the jar reference don't include the actual __V.jar file name, just include all pre __V.jar. <jar href="AddLogic_v1.0.jar"/> would become <jar href="AddLogic.jar"/>. Now I haven't done it with the version.xml before I just did it with making file named *__V.jar.
    I just re-read all that you did, if you title your files with the __V.jar notation you don't need a version.xml file.
    <jar href="SimpleGUI_v1.0.jar" version="1.0"/>
    Should become
    <jar href="SimpleGUI.jar" version="1.0"/>
    And you would have SimpleGUI_v1.0.jar on your server. Also might need it to be a capital "V" not sure.

  • Accessing Shared Resources of another computer

    Hi,
    Im migrating a program in visual basic to java. I need help on a class or functions that views shared resources on another computer just like as windows command "net view".
    Someone told me to use Runtime.getRuntime().exec("net view PC"); But I need it also to run in linux and I don't want it to be OS dependent. Is there any existing API for this?
    Thanks,
    valcaro

    Again you can not use a 'shared' resource if you do not have access from the other box.
    It doesn't matter what you do in java - it just will not work.
    In the same way you can't talk to another computer if there is no link (network) between them.
    So do you have that access in the first place?
    Windows file sharing is possible from linux. The easiest way to do it is to set it up on the box as an admin. And there are a number of complications with that and I seriously doubt that it is viable to do that via a java app.
    If you just want to communicate then do so. And file access is easily done with FTP.
    I suppose that you could, yourself, replicate the interface that windows uses for file sharing. It would take a lot of work with an a minimum a very good understanding of how windows does it and which would require you to learn with packet sniffing (since I seriously doubt this is documented.) You could tear apart one of the linux solutions that implement it as well. But regardless a lot of work.

    I have attempted to configure rdp access but it does not seem to be working for me Could I please ask someone to help me modify my current configuration to allow this? Please do step by step as I could use all the help I could get.
    I need to allow the following IP addresses to have RDP access to my server:
    66.237.238.193-66.237.238.222

    Unclear what did not work.  In your original post you include said some commands were added but don't work:
    static (inside,outside) tcp interface 3389 192.168.6.2 3389 netmask 255.255.255.255
    and later you state you add another command that gets an error:
    static (inside,outside) tcp 99.89.69.333 3389 192.168.6.2 3389 netmask 255.255.255.255
    You also stated that 99.89.69.333 (actually 99.89.69.233, guessing from the rest of your config and other posts) is your WAN IP address.
    The first static statement matches Cisco's documentation, which states that a static statement must use the 'interface' directive when you are trying to do static PAT utilizing the IP address of the interface.  Since 99.89.69.333 is the assigned IP address of your WAN interface, that may explain why the second statement fails.
    Any reason why you are using static PAT (including the port number 3389) instead of just skipping that directive?  Static PAT usually makes sense when you need to change the TCP port number.  In your example, you are not changing the TCP port 3389.

  • Needed to copy the share from one server to share in another server

    Hi ,
    Needed to copy the data from one share named as xyz in the server 1 to the another share abc in another server 2.
    Share xyz data should be copied to the share abc which has already different data in it .We need to copy all the data from the share xyz to the share abc  without deleting any existing data in the destination share.
    I know that /MIR option will replace the destination same as source
    Can anybody help us in the Robocopy command & switches for this activity?
    Any help is greatly appreciated!
    Thanks & Regards S.Swaminathan Live & let others live!!!

    Hi Mandy,
    Thanks for your reply.
    I have done many robocopy for the share movements from the one server joined in a domain to another server joined in the same domain.In that instances, the destination server will not be having any share of the old server name and just I robocopy the share
    from the old server to the new server after creating a new share .The usual command is as follows:
    "\\server1\oldshare" \\server2\newshare" *.* *.* *.* /ZB /E /COPY:DATO /XJ /R:0 /W:0 /TEE /dcopy:T /NP /log:c:\robocopy.txt
    And after the copy , during the cutover of the standalone DFS pointing to the new share , the domain users in the corresponding access groups (name of the groups based on the old server name) of Full,Modify,Read will be appropriately copied to the respective
    new  groups (name of the groups based on the new server name) of the new share and the access is ensured by the users.
    But in this case , the destination server is already having a share with existing data in it and to be added with the old share data
    My question is shall I use the same command as before by copying all the data to the newly created subfolder inside the existiing destination share through the following command
    "\\server1\oldshare" \\server2\newshare\new sub-folder" *.* *.* *.* /ZB /E /COPY:DATO /XJ /R:0 /W:0 /TEE /dcopy:T /NP /log:c:\robocopy.txt
    You have already mentioned /E without purge options will do.
    Just asking one more time for the safer side
    Thanks & Regards S.Swaminathan Live & let others live!!!

  • Access UME from another J2EE engine

    Hi,
    I use a webdynpro application in a webdynpro iview, but the application is deployed to another server than the portal. It works so far, but I have to access the UME to read out informations about roles. But I can only access the UME of the server where I deployed the application, however I need to access the UME of the portal. How can I access the UME of the portal server, it is even possible?
    Regards
    Roman

    Roman,
         The 2 solutions came to my mind are
         1. deploying your application on the server which has your portal running on it. This ultimately not favourable to your case.
         2. Creating a webservice for the UME data and deploying onto server that has portal running on it. consuming this webservice in your
             webdynpro application and deploying on any other server of your choice.
    may not be of much help for you but some ideas....

  • Microsoft sql client deadlocked on lock resources with another process

    Hi
    I wrote a forecasting report for a customer which creates an excel spreadsheet with the information
    Depending on how they run the report it can take between 5 to 15 minutes to run
    We have just upgraded the customer to SAP 8.8 PL10 and Microsoft SQL Server 2008 and they seem to be getting an error -
    Microsoft sql client deadlocked on lock resources with another process .......
    The error seems intermittent, they may get the error once and the next time they run it, it is fine.
    I have never seen this error before and they never had it before on SAP 2005
    Can anyone suggest anything please?
    Thanks
    Regards Andy

    Hi Andy,
    I was having the same problem. I'm gonna tell you what i did.
    My query usually takes from 10 to 15 minutes to show results. That long time also block all transaction in the database.
    I was reading about some techniques to improve queries performance. Some of the tips are:
    1. Review indexes in the table you are querying
    2. Use Views
    3. Avoid cursors
    4. Archive old data
    5. Use the correct transaction isolation level
    The last one, was the tip that helped me to avoid the block in the database.
    By default the isolation level in SQL Server is Read Commited, that explains why the database block some transactions. For example, if you have a query that take data from JDT1 table and it takes several minutes to show the results, other transactions that try to write in the same table should be blocked if they arrive at the same time of the first query.
    To solve this, you can make your query in a transaction with Snapshot isolation level. It means that your select query will take a snapshot of the data without blocking any other transaction.
    Here is an example how you can make it. The difference is that you may use ADO.NET connection replacing DI API Connection:
    oConnection = OK1.Generic.Helpers.setConnection(server, password, userID, db); // You have to set anyway your sqlconnection
                        if (oConnection.State == ConnectionState.Open)
                            oCommand = new SqlCommand();
                            oCommand.Connection = oConnection;
                            oCommand.CommandTimeout = System.Convert.ToInt32(timeOut);
                            oCommand.CommandText = "ALTER DATABASE " + db + " SET ALLOW_SNAPSHOT_ISOLATION ON";
                            oCommand.ExecuteNonQuery();
                            sqlTran1 = oConnection.BeginTransaction(IsolationLevel.Snapshot);
                            oCommand.CommandText = query;
                            oCommand.Transaction = sqlTran1;
                            oCommand.ExecuteNonQuery();
                            sqlTran1.Commit();
                            oCommand.CommandText = "ALTER DATABASE " + db + " SET ALLOW_SNAPSHOT_ISOLATION OFF";
                            oCommand.ExecuteNonQuery();
                            if (oConnection.State == ConnectionState.Open)
                                oConnection.Close();
    In this example I write the data to show in the report in other table, then the report takes the data from that table.
    I hope it will be helpful for you.
    Regards,
    Juan Camilo

  • Reporting and Analysis server down need to move to another server

    I lost my original server for RA and re-installed the components on another server, however, when I try to access from workspace, I receive the message *"Could not find a Hyperion Reporting and analysis server running on "old server name' at port 6800. Please veriify your server connect string and confirm the server is set up".*
    I've re-run the installer and configuration to no avail. Is there a configuration file that I have to update someplace?

    This basically means that the HSS registry is still pointing to the old server name for RA_FRAMEWORK component.You will have to check through the registry report whether there are multiple instance of RA framework registered (one with the old server and another with the new server).If yes you can delete the old one from registry through the epmsys_registry command tool and reconfigure with the new server.
    If you want assistance with the same,please raise an SR with Oracle support and should be able to guide you through.
